She was not there so Chris autographed my book for me and another woman suggested the bookstore log which I thought was awesome. So of course he autographed that as well. Then he made me a little swag of bookmarks and stickers. Love that guy! Everyone here was so wonderful. They even helped us pick out a place for dinner. This place obviously doesn't want children in there, so don't sell children's books! My grandson was literally frightened by an associate grabbing a book from his hands and shouting, "NO, NO. This book is NOT to be touched!" Really? Then why is it on display in the children's section?? I never give bad reviews, but I really miss the Little Book House where kids could be kids and enjoy choosing books. Sorry, but Barnes and Noble here I come.

Located in the heart of downtown Schenectady on the Jay Street Pedestrian Mall, they are around the corner from Proctors Theatre and many restaurants. There is lots of parking. The knowledgeable staff is wonderful to deal with in person or by telephone. The store even offer a frequent shopper rewards card. I had to pick up a book I ordered. Like many people, I prefer to support small businesses rather than Amazon and large mall bookstores whenever I can. The store was packed with great displays of books and gifts artfully arranged. I am always impressed with the space and attention devoted to books etc. for children. Before I checked out with the book I ordered, I selected a children's board book, three greetings cards, a stained glass frame for a 5 X 7 photo, and an adorable pair of llama socks for my young granddaughter. The Bookmark, formerly of Newton Plaza (a theme of Newton Plaza stores is invading my brain right…read morenow from a recent trip, so anyone not from the area probably should just skip the reviews), used to be a second job for a teacher in our Shaker High, Ms. Skeals. She was an incredibly nice person, very engaging, and just all around a good teacher. She was younger than the average age I would say at our school so she taught sensibly with a much closer ear for teen tendencies, attitudes, she was just much more in tune. Anywho, occasionally I would drop by the Bookmark because it was the closest local bookstore to home if I had to purchase anything. We'd talk about movies and such, and the cover of the Bread and Tulips DVD, which that particular cover the actress reminded me a lot of Ms. Skeals, so we had what you call a laff riot over that one. It was a good film exercise/quiz before heading on to other things during the afternoon. The bookstore itself was nothing too fancy; they certainly could not cover as much ground as the huge Barnes and Noble on Wolf Road, but what could? they did not specialize in used books and comics like the Book Barn over on Delatour either, but this was an easy bookstore to navigate for the general selection of classic fiction as well as current non-fiction. And it was next to the Starbucks, the only one in the immediate area. So that was an easy one-two punch.
