With the crazy storms Oklahoma has, I wanted to make sure that my beautiful Silver Maple is healthy and safe. I definitely don't want a branch to fall on my neighbor's fence or my roof, so I set out to find someone to trim my tree. When I had the tree inspected before purchasing the house, the guy that came out said he could do it for $600 once the leaves had fallen off, so I knew that it would be a little up there. I got bids from 5 people, ranging from $100 to $700. There were several reasons that I went with Urban Arborist over the cheaper guys. He didn't suggest that I top the tree which can be very bad for it, not to mention ugly. He has 2 million in liability insurance and worker's comp, he is licensed in Nichols Hills (the only place in the metro area required to have one), has an education in trees, and is a member of the International Society of Arbor Culture. The owner, Dustin Bean, was incredibly friendly, responsive, and knowledgeable. While he and his assistant were working, they both wore hardhats (safety is important!) though only Dustin got up in the tree, and he didn't use those tree grabber shoes, which can hurt it. They were at work for about 3 hours which included taking out all of the dead limbs, removing the suckers and infected branches, picking up the sticks and cleaning up the front yard out to where ever the mess had scattered on this windy day, stacked any usable firewood, and answered all of my questions. His minimum is $200, but his knowledge is definitely worth it. Afterwards, I asked him when I could next expect to need to trim the tree again, and while every tree is different, he said most Maples need it about every three years. He'll definitely be my only call the next time my tree needs trimmed. read more

I couldn't recommend them more for tree/stump removal! Dustin was courteous with each interaction we had, and was able to provide an estimate of removal and grinding within a day of contacting him. The price is fair, and they were beyond professional during the removal! They went the extra mile to ensure that my driveway and lawn surrounding the tree weren't damaged during the process. All of the debris was cleaned up afterward, leaving no evidence of the removal aside from the ground stump. We had a terrific experience with Urban Arborists and will certainly use them for our future tree trimming needs. Here's why: 1. Easy to reach: Incredibly friendly and great communication -- call, email, text -- the owner, Dustin Bean, is reachable. We had to reschedule twice because of storms and he was quick to let us know. 2. You won't have to sell your first born: We received some pretty steep quotes. Urban Arborists charges a fair price, probably because it's for what you (and your trees) need, not what someone else could convince you to do. (Read on.) 3. Won't take advantage of you: Dustin will tell you what's best for your trees, not for his bank account. We wanted to eliminate some of the shade in our backyard to sod bermuda. He was honest in saying that even if we cleared away major branches (for major money), we likely still wouldn't get enough sun in the yard to successfully grow bermuda. He said we were better off trying X, Y, or Z, but spending a bunch of money on tree trimming would just leave us disappointed. In contrast, the guy we'd gotten a quote from a few weeks prior said sure, we can do all that -- for $1,500. Pass. 4. No mess: Branches chipped on site and off they went. No mess for us to clean up. 5. Safety first: Helmets, ropes, insured. While watching Dustin climb in the tree it was clear he knows what he's doing. 6. They make it right: We'd talked about removing a dead branch from a neighbor's tree that was dangling above our house. There was a laundry list of branches to be trimmed and this one was overlooked. It took me a few days to even notice and though I kept meaning to call and ask about it, I still hadn't gotten around to it when I happened to run into Dustin at lunchtime. I asked about the stray branch without hesitation he apologized and said, sure, no problem -- we're headed that way for a job and we'll stop by and get it. And indeed they did within about an hour! What a wonderful experience. I only had one quote and really do not think I could have done better. Dustin was very friendly, courteous, and very professional. Very quick to answer any correspondence; showed up for the job on time; After removing two trees. trimming one and cleaning up leaving the area cleaner than before work began. Dustin came out the day after I contacted him about 6 dead oak trees we had in our backyard. The trees were not easily accessible and we were concerned about damage to surrounding trees and landscape but Dustin assured us that they would minimize any damage. The next week, he was out and delivered exactly (and a little more!) what he promised. Except for the absence of the dead trees, you couldn't tell they were even there...fantastic job! I read the reviews and decided to give this company a try. I called the first time and was told what day they would come to look at trees. Followed up with them, and they had not been out as scheduled. Another day was chosen to come out. I waited another couple of days and inquired what their findings were. Guy admitted they had not come out again as scheduled and asked if I would instead send pictures of my trees. I did so and texted to see if he got the pictures and what his recommendation would be since he wouldn't come out. Never heard back from the guy. I don't think he needs any business since he can not keep appointments and does not have find to text back. Probably a good thing I did not use him. A no show for appointments is not a way to run a business. Don't know what his work is like since we never got an estimate for work. Good luck working with them!! I have moved on to another company.
