Review Highlights - Urban Beat Dance Company

Those are all well and good, but I'd like to get into a bit more detail about their specific approach to teaching.

They offer free de-caf free at the front and plenty of room to sit and wait for your class. There's such a wide range of selection for types of dances that there is one for everyone. You can choose what level you want and the ones I went to were all intro/open so they were beginner-friendly. Every instructor has been very nice. It's a judgement free zone and a great way to have fun!

My friend J went quarter before 3 and I showed up little late when the dance session started. I wish there was a clear instruction before walking in. I was confused whether to take shoes off to change to indoor shoes or go into studios without my shoes and turns out I had to change to indoor shoes after arrival. Next step was filling out application form and if there was any medical history. I was ready for the session once it was finished. There was so much energy and the 90's hip hop was so perfect for this. Everyone wasn't first timers except for me and J. My instructor showed steps from slow speed and then the pace became quicker. It was little difficult to follow the steps and which direction to swing or to bend my legs. I nearly fell for the first 30 minutes , and then fell on the floor because of my poor balance. My only way to catch up is to observe my instructor or other people to improve dance steps. It was a fantastic work out for sure. Because there was only 1 fan, I felt very sweaty and humid in the dance studio. I only paid $10 for the first lesson and it was so worth it. Staff were nice and friendly. **Note: bring your old runners for the dance. Make sure they're clean pair. They have small change rooms so you can change into loose clothes. Water bottle is a must to bring. They even have a water station next to reception desk. I found myself overwhelmed that some moves were more of advanced level. Everyone else moved so fast I couldn't follow their speed. I found myself with a small bruise the next day.

I spent the day mostly with Anthony and we had so much fun, but the whole staff is great. It's clear they can teach anyone how to dance.

The Vancouver Arthur Murray is a wonderful place to learn how to dance…read more My partner and I started out here as total noobs and have had a fantastic time over the past 3+ years learning a lot of dances. They really know how to teach here - they structure private lessons and group classes to be good learning environments, and they make it fun and social. It's a very warm, supportive environment to learn in; the other students are friendly and encouraging. We've taken the occassional dance class outside of Arthur Murray (salsa) and the way those classes are taught really make us appreciate the Arthur Murray technique which is less frustrating and more productive. I can't say enough positive things about this studio. As a bonus, it's a franchised studio - so if you travel to another city with one, you can stop in and take classes there. Also - lots of people come as singles - you don't need to have a partner, everyone mixes and mingles in classes and at dance parties. Update: it's 2018 and we're still students here, that's how much we like it. :)
