I should preface by saying I don't like leaving bad reviews unless I REALLY am not satisfied with a particular business. With a special event coming up, I decided to get a spray tan at Urban Beauty Lounge since it has such glowing reviews. Booking was easy enough, and the ladies at the front desk were friendly. The spray tan itself was also quick and straightforward, but a few things struck me as odd and gave me a bad gut feeling: 1. The technician asked me if I wanted my face sprayed AFTER I already felt droplets on my face, and when I told her I had a full face of makeup on (including false eyelashes), she said that it's fine. I did some digging and have not seen this being the case at ANY spray tan salons - normally they ask that you remove your makeup or provide wipes before blasting your face with tanning solution. 2. On that note, there was no pre or post-care conversation except for a paper with instructions stuck on the wall (which, if you're not as familiar with spray tanning as I am, comes off as a lack of care overall. I had to do my own research on how to prepare). 3. The tanning solution they use is the same for every client, no customization of color, no asking what shade you want to be. This leads me to the results... I left my accelerated tan on for 2-3 hours as I wanted a more natural glow for my event. I followed their post-care poster to a tee. This morning, I wake up, go to the bathroom, and literally feel my stomach sinking. I am ORANGE as orange can be. My face is splotchy with orange streaks (from what I assume is the solution being sprayed OVER my foundation and makeup). I've never been this orange in my life, even with the shittiest cheapest drugstore fake tan I used once before. A day out from my event, and I'm scrambling to find DIY solutions at home to get this tan off of me. I'm embarrassed to leave the house looking like Snooki from Jersey Shore circa 2009. I don't know how it is that the other reviews are so positive: what experience and results did they have that differed so much from mine? Needless to say, I am really devastated and will not be going back. I've attached photos of my results (they look worse in person, trust me). read more

Just a PSA to the paler girlies- I don't think the solution they use is for us. I always say I'd rather be slightly orange than pale, but this kind of took it to a new level. When asked if I wanted natural or dark I asked for natural and got a burnt orange. The color was doable after two thorough showers but even then it is the color you get from an okay self tanner. Which brings me to my next point- the reason I go for spray tans rather than self tanning is when I care about what my hands and feet look like, otherwise I'd just use self tanner if I'm getting orangey anyways. I've been here twice- The first time I went they complete missed my hands (see pic).. and yes I followed all post care directions and didn't wash my hands or anything like that. They just didn't spray it. The second time I tried, it looked like I had self tanner hands and there were white streaks where the spray missed on the inside legs. Iykyk... anyways, the solution might work for darker skin tones, but definitely not mine! The color isn't great on pale skin and the pale skin in contrast to the orangey color where they miss is stark. Honestly, wouldn't risk going here for an important event but might be worth the cheaper price on their discount day if you're just looking to cure some pale depression real quick. read more

This place was absolutely fabulous! When I walked in it was so clean and super cute in here! I came to get my eyebrows waxed and laminated and they came out great minus a few pieces of skin I lost (due to retinol). My esthetician was super knowledgeable about skin and was really helpful with recommendations. The girls working here were so kind and chatty which I loved! They also had skinceuticals for 50% off which was amazing, so I stocked up on a few things. Next time I come I'd love to try a facial as it seems to be their specialty. read more

I showered five hours after the original spray, and again the next morning - and that is when I decided to call. I was hoping by the second shower it would improve, but it didn't. I came over here to review and saw they already had a 5 star rating so clearly y'all already know. This place is solid. I got their signature facial and opted to try the Dermaplane add on. Extractions were pretty painless and I don't have any irritation from the extractions or products they used. It's a few days later and my skin is still glowing It was a little more than I am used to paying, but it's quality so I don't mind the trade off. They have an express facial option that is more in my (and perhaps your) usual price range, but the experience was very positive and I was so pleased to find such a gem in my neighborhood. Not only is this place dirty, the front desk girls are RUDE. The rooms they bring you in to spray are DIRTY. And I don't just mean dirty with spray tan residue. There was dust, hair, fingerprints all over the mirror. The spray tan is patchy, they use the same formula for everyone so if you have skin that is not dark and olive colored, this tan formula is going to look orange and patchy on you. Looked absolutely horrible on the under arm area. Their inexperienced spray tanners don't understand how to spray your armpit so it looks natural. Fades in about three days. Worst spray tan I've ever had in the Boston area. Go to Pure Glow. Worth the drive and wayyy better formula. And also the front desk there is not rude. read more

I got my make up done by Adrianna and literally couldn't have been happier. She did a great job and listened to exactly what I needed my make up for. I was getting professional headshots done so needed my make up fresh and photo ready but also enough to really make my features stand out. I don't wear a full face of make up very often and I was worried it might be too much, but she knew exactly how to do my make up for the photos and they came out SO well. I was so so so glad I came in. She's also a sweetheart. She got me done efficiently and made sure I made it to my appointment on time. I'm getting married next month, so I wanted to jumpstart my skin care routine just in time for the wedding, and came across UBL reviews and decided to try it out. The entire place is clean very clean and the decor is so cute, and all of the women that work there are super nice. I had Mollie for my facial, and she did an awesome job of figuring out what my skin issues were. The facial and massage were AMAZING - I felt so relaxed! We chit chatted a little, and she is so friendly. After the facial, she pulled some products for me based on her recommendations, but didn't pressure me into buying anything at all. But, the products were so affordably priced, I ended up buying everything she recommended. All in all, I 110% recommend UBL for your beauty needs! I decided to book a Brazilian wax at Urban Beauty Lounge because of the great reviews. Sadly to say, my visit was less than stellar. Don't get my wrong -- the esthetician was really nice and easy to talk to. The pain wasn't that bad as well! The actual waxing was done badly. She told me that there were going to be a few broken hairs because it was my first time doing a Brazilian wax, but there were MANY BROKEN HAIRS. Everywhere. (Wish I could insert pictures of my lady bits but ya know, das nasty) I saw no difference in this waxing compared to when I shave -- it was very stubbly and poorly executed. I also noticed she used both hard AND soft wax. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't hard wax the only type of wax that should be used for the bikini area? I dunno man. I'm disappointed my first time getting a Brazilian wax wasn't great, so I will be trying another place in the future. read more

It was so quick and efficient, which greatly minimized the pain. She is definitely a professional. She was very warm and friendly; she spoke a lot to keep your mind off of the pain. I cannot recommend her any more highly! If you're even contemplating going, GO! Wonderful experience, will definitely be back in 4 - 5 weeks! UBL is an amazing spot tucked away in Quincy...just a block away from Wolly Beach! The facility is super clean and is adorably decorated. When you walk in you are greeted by happy light pink walls and shelves with cosmetics, skin care items, and even some cute curated pieces of jewelry for purchase. Melissa, the owner, is amazing and works her buns off! She's a master at what she does and she's also hilarious. I go there every few weeks for a brow/lip wax and always look forward to joking around with her as she transforms my wildebeest eyebrows into a thing of beauty. She takes her time to wax, trip, and pluck them into a perfect shape. I also get a spray tan from Meliss every few months (and she also did both of my competition tans for fitness/bodybuilding shows). Again, she does a fantastic job and the tan lasts quite a while! I'm so excited to have discovered this hidden gem tucked away behind Wollaston Beach (thanks to the fantastic reviews on Yelp and other sites!) I'm very particular with the way my eyebrows look & have been nervous to let anyone new touch them after a few bad experiences (too thin, taking off the length etc.) I decided that traveling an hour+ just to get my eyebrows done wasn't the best use of time and maybe I could find a place more local. I work in Cambridge & live in Quincy so plenty of options.... After reading the reviews for Urban Beauty without finding any negative feedback and one describing Melissa as an eyebrow goddess I believe I made my first appointment. Couldn't be happier with the results!!! My brows look PERFECT. Melissa did an amazing job, was so incredibly nice & professional. I will most definitely be back!! Over the past couple years I've received a handful of Brazilians at Urban Beauty Lounge. If the review was solely for Melissa it would be 5 stars all the way. However I have never been satisfied with a Brazilian at UBL performed by a different aesthetician. Last week I made an appointment online with Melissa, and when I arrived today I realized she wasn't in and that my Brazilian would be done by another aesthetician. As the room's lighting is fairly ambient, I thought it was strange that she didn't use the portable lamp (hanging right over my head), or tweeze any strays. When I got home I found quite a bit of blue wax left behind and that she had missed some areas. If I do return I'll make sure Melissa is performing the treatment ... unless I feel like spending 30 minutes cleaning up and tweezing the missed areas. read more
