I went here a week ago for a spray tan and the results were less than great. Overall, the color was way too dark. It was pretty clear they did not take into consideration my skin tone. The biggest issue though was my palms and heels were bright orange. I messaged the team to let them know about this issue. A manager called me and basically tried to say it was probably my fault because I was a first time client. While I might have been a first time client here, I get spray tans often and have never had this issue before. She suggested I use windex to try to get the staining off which is an insane thing to suggest! It's a harmful chemical which would cause a chemical burn, so it's clear they do not care about the health and safety of their clients. She also said they would send me a discount for next time (not that I'd go back) but they never did. Don't go here. read more

I showed up 10 mins late for reasons beyond my control (#mbta)- left a message that I was going to be late, literally ran to the appointment and was told by the owner that I'd be charged for a full spray but they could only do a partial or nothing; either way they were charging my card for the full cost. Cheers to the team that saved my face! I've been coming to pure glow for a few years (since femme fatale closed). Their color is great and usually lasts a solid week, a bit more if you're super careful (deep exfoliation beforehand, keep your skin moisturized, no oil-based products). My visits have generally been a quick in and out, so I didn't fully appreciate the free touch ups policy -- until last week when I did the worst thing one could possibly do after a spray tan and CRIED less than an hour later. I then googled pictures of "cry after spray tan" and had a minor heart attack. I called and Pure Glow was able to take me in right away to assess the sitch. After deciding it was beyond a minor touch up, they had me wash off my whole face and re-sprayed me. Not only did it come out flawless, they didn't even charge for the service. Heroes! Other details for newbies: I've got quite fair skin and usually do color 2-3, depending on the occasion; some subtle color for a summer wedding is a 2, prepping for a tropical vacation is 3. When in doubt, start lighter and they can do another quick coat if it doesn't seem dark enough. Unfortunately did this not go as expected even though the staff was extremely nice. My hand was bright orange for weeks and when I asked for a refund the owner offered me another tan (I live in NY not Boston - I was there for work with my boss) and then only refunded me $25 dollars. My boss saw my hand which was embarrassing, and I then went away for a vacation where all of my friends jokingly fly pointed out my orange hand over the entire trip (I scrubbed with sand, rocks, a lemon, soap EVERYTHING). As I update this review 6 weeks later my nails are still orange and only are getting better as I grow and clip them. Had the owner refunded me I wouldn't have left this note but I paid to be humiliated in front of my boss and friends. And yes I applied the lotion to my hand in front of the staff as most people keep saying "they should have given you lotion". I have many pictures as proof but I feel bad enough posting this that I've chosen not to add the pictures. My advice: when a client is embarrassed and expresses that to you transparently and kindly - refund them the full $75. While it is a short term loss it avoid reviews like this. read more

The staff is very patient and helpful. Their salon is in a great location. However, I have to say for the price of the tan, the results aren't that great. Problem area: the neck. The last 3 out of 4 times I have gone, the tan starts coming off in big spots within 24 hours on your neck. The rest of your body looks great, but you get quarter-sized white break through areas on your neck very quickly. I've gone to other spray tan salons before and haven't had this happen... and I don't have any lotion/soap on my neck before the spray tan. I just got my spray tan last night and woke up with two quarter sized areas that the spray didn't stick (again) overnight. I have a big event to go to and can't get it fixed before. I've been going to them for 3 years now, and am grateful for how attentive they are to detail and how natural the tan looks- never orange, just so authentic looking. I've had tans from almost every girl that works there and they are so consistent I feel like I'm in good hands (and the girls are so sweet and make me feel so comfortable!) Both times, the person at the front desk took the time to walk me through the various spray tanning options and helped me pick the best one! They also offer complimentary eye covers, hair nets, etc... I've seen both Lauren and Paula and would highly recommend both! I had a mediocre experience at Pure Glow, and overall was not too impressed. I have received my fair share of spray tans, since my skin is very sensitive and I try to avoid sun exposure, and have had some bad and good sprays over the years. This was overall, meh. At check-in, they have a very convenient "tan selection" which describes their 5 levels of tan, ranging from lightest to darkest. I asked a lot of questions, as I am very pale but still wanted to achieve a nice bronzed look. With collaboration from the front desk and my spray-tanner, we decided on "Sun Kissed" with the guarantee that if I decided it was too light we could go darker. The spray itself was in a standard, clean ventilated room with very professional staff. I felt very comfortable (& that's saying a lot when your hoo-ha is only covered by a tiny piece of string!) HOWEVER, after the spray was complete my technician stepped out to allow me to "look over to decide if you're too dark, too light, or just right!". Without hesitation I could tell that I was far too light, with barely any tan line. Once I told my technician about this, she told me since I had chosen "Sun kissed" there was no way they could make me any darker, and that if I had wanted a deeper tan I should have chosen a different category. (I told you I wanted to be very bronze, and since this was my first time here I had no actual reference of the categories, and we decided together on sun kissed!) Ugh, stress, I decided not to argue about it and just settle on a much lesser tanned look. I even bought a $45 face touch up in order to spray myself again so that I could look a little tanner, making the overall cost of this spray by far the most expensive I've ever bought. To top it off, this was also the SHORTEST duration of tan I've ever had. After ~2 days my face was looking far, far lighter and I was starting to "peel" around my chest area. I abide very strictly by all of their recommendations so I was very disappointed about this. Overall, I feel like Pure Glow is another Newbury Street trap, a place that charges far too much $$ and then skimps on the quality/customer service. I choose to get my tan here because it was on "Boston's Best 2016". I was super happy when I realized they had many different appointment times(after 7pm) since I don't get out until then. Since I'm so fair-skinned I was worried that the tan wouldn't look well. Within minutes I was bronzed. Tan is even and very natural looking. Everyone was shocked when I said it was a spray tan. I am so happy I chose to have my spray tan applied at Pure Glow for my wedding! I am someone who is super pale and have a very hard time naturally tanning in the sun. I really wanted to look hot for my big day and decided that a spray on tan would probably be the easiest and safest way to go about it. I contacted Pure Glow about 2 weeks before my wedding and they recommended I do a trial tan before the big day tan to make sure I liked it. I went ahead and did it and WOW! It came out AMAZING! In fact, I went to Sephora to get color matched to find a good foundation to match my new skin tone and the woman helping me couldn't believe it was fake. She said that she used a tanning bed for her own tan but I inspired her to try spray tanning, especially since it's much safer. The employees at Pure Glow are very professional and make you feel very comfortable. The first time around, I wore a bra and the second time around I went topless so that I wouldn't have any tan lines. I will say that the tan does rub off on what you're wearing the first 2 days. So yes, I did get some tan stains on my wedding dress. But TBH I'm never wearing my wedding dress again so it wasn't a big deal to me. Plus, any stains come off in the wash. So I am guessing if I had had my dress dry-cleaned it would have come right out. The tan lasted into my honeymoon until I developed a natural tan from being out in the sun everyday. I would definitely come back to get a tan before my next vacation, especially if it's in the middle of the winter. read more

I went there as a test for a wedding I have coming up in the summer months in Australia (wearing a white bridesmaid dress). I really love it. The color is very nice and natural. The smell and feel (initially when you get it done) is fine and the staff are really lovely and make you feel at home I'm actually quite naturally olive myself so I was scared of looking too un-natural but it turned out really well (I got sunkissed color). The color stayed on for about actually like 6-7 days. You do have to make sure that you exfoliate beforehand to ensure that the tan stays on evenly and to make it last longer. For the price and all of the positive reviews, I expected a much better experience at Pure Glow. The spray technician was very professional and thorough, which I appreciated. However, after getting the spray tan, I felt very rushed and I didn't think they gave me an adequate amount of time to dry. The blower that they use after the spray tan really doesn't do much. And despite following the rules (wearing loose fitting cotton clothes, no bra) my spray tan rubbed off on my chest after leaving the salon. After my tan, I booked a spray tan for my wedding, however, after this experience I will not be going back. It's not worth the risk of having a streaky tan on my wedding day. read more

I actually think Pure Glow does a good job with spray tans and as a result I bought a 3 pack of sessions. Unfortunately the cancellation policy is merciless and cost me one of my sessions and for $70 to go down the drain for a situation that was completely out of my control. A few weeks ago I had booked an appointment for the morning before a late afternoon flight to the Caribbean...the weather was a mix of rain and snow but on that morning the forecast was turning more definitively to snow and caused my late afternoon flight to be significantly delayed. Upon calling to check on my flight, I was told by the airline that my flight would likely be canceled and if I wanted any chance to get out of Boston that day they would need to rebook me on an earlier flight. As soon as I learned this, about 45 minutes prior to my 10am appointment, I called and explained that I would not be able to make my session as I had just learned that I needed to leave for the airport right away for a chance to make an earlier flight and avoid getting stuck in Boston and missing 1 of the 3 days of vacation for which I was getting the spray tan to begin with. The response from the reception was callus and completely tone deaf. She informed me that had I followed the cancellation policy and given the 12 hours notice they could have booked someone during my time slot and thus she would have to charge me the whole amount because I didn't give the required 12 hours notice. I understand these types of policies but come on- this was obviously a situation that was outside of my control. She finished by reminding me to simply give the appropriate notice next time- oh sure the next time extreme weather jeopardizes a short getaway and I have to be rebooked on a different flight, I will somehow predict these unfortunate events so I don't get further screwed out of $70- thanks for the thoughtful advice! read more

They were very nice and helpful with getting everything evened out and getting the color closer to my expectations. My tan looked great and the color didn't look fake at all! If I could give 6 stars I would! I started getting tanned at Pure Glow in June 2019, mainly for events (weddings, trips, etc). Michaela, Spenser & Victoria have all sprayed me - EVERY single tan I've had from each of them has been amazing, and Victoria sprayed me for my wedding and I cannot say enough great things! She took extra care to even out my leftover summer tan lines for my dress and gave me the perfect glow for my big day. I got tons of compliments on how healthy and glowing I looked, and I happily admitted to everyone that it was Pure Glow! Beyond that, every time I go to the salon is a great experience. Everyone is kind and professional and make me feel so comfortable from start to finish. I've done both lighter and darker tans, and each time I leave feeling more confident than when I walked in. They've always been extremely clean, but are taking even more precautions now with COVID and I felt completely safe for my whole appointment! I've been here before the tan is good. They are very strict with their cancelation policy in which they will charge you the full price of the tan if you do not cancel within 12 hours with no wiggle room. However, they do not open until 3pm so my phone call was not answered to cancel and my email later in the day (still 7 hours ahead of my appointment) later bounced back since they do not have replies set up for their emails. To me, a successful company has great customer service, which clearly they do not. They could have cut me a break for a first time late cancelation since I tried to reach them instead of charging me the full amount or applied it to a future service. They did offer to contribute the $75 to a package of 3 or more, but I do not get spray tans that often where I'd like to pay even more money ahead of time for a tan I may or may not use, especially ahead of summer. $75 is a very large cancelation fee for less than 12 hour notice when people are very busy and tried to contact the company. Just my two sense, beware. As an update... 5/15 to the response from the business below: I do not find cancelling by voicemail or email challenging. What I find challenging to understand is that through a busy day of work I found two ways to reach out to you via phone and a reply to your own email and I could not get through to you in either way, yet I am charged a full fee for the service with no wiggle room whatsoever. 5/17 The business direct messaged me that they do allow each customer a one time free cancelation, however this would not apply to me because I was a "no show" and offered to contribute the $75 to a 3 pack again, essentially recommending I give them even more money and triple my investment. Shows truly how greedy the company is and their lack of customer service expertise or willingness to work with me on this. I wouldn't be surprised if they continued to argue with me, a customer, over yelp instead of simply correcting their error which is what they should have done in the first place to keep happy customers. Seems like from other Yelp reviews I am not the only one who has run into this issue with the company. I was struggling to find a spray tanning place with good reviews and close to my office. Then I stumbled on Yelp review for Pure Glow. I thought it was too good to be true that they come to your house and aren't that much pricier than downtown Boston salons. Lauren was prompt, enthusiastic, and thorough. She made me feel very comfortable and gave me an amazing tan. She was very careful to apply it lightly to see how my skin took to it so we could decide on the right shade. She even had me walk into my kitchen to see the tan in a different light. Good thing we did this because my tan was much darker in my Western-facing kitchen. Needing to be freshly scrubbed, clean and then in dark clothes afterwards make it complicated to go spray tanning right after work. But, it doesn't matter now that Pure Glow comes to you. As what one might call a "tanorexic," I was suspect of Pure Glow. Can an organic custom spray tan really mimic a true tan and not turn me into an oompa loompa? Well, the answer -- I'm thrilled to say -- is YES! Lauren and team are very welcoming and make you feel comfortable right off the bat. They take time to explain the process and after-care and answer any questions you might have. A friend and I went in for the Grand Opening (of their Newbury St studio) on Saturday and purchased a discounted one-month unlimited package. We both got the full-body tan and were really happy with the results. There was a menu to choose from (which is going to be updated) from three shades; Lauren explained that since it was customizable, we could go for a "bold" number (ie, in between two shades). We asked what women usually wore and were told no bra and a thong (they do have disposable ones there!), but you can wear whatever you like! You are instructed to get into various positions so they don't miss any spots -- it can be a bit awkward but really they make you feel comfortable right off the bat. The tan shows up immediately (they use a bronzer so that they can make sure your tan is even and the color you want) and, unlike the booths, it smells FANTASTIC!! There is also aloe in the solution so your skin feels soft afterwards. They aren't kidding when they say you can go right out afterwards -- you really can! And you don't need makeup since you feel gorgeous with your "sun"-kissed skin:) In addition to full-body, they also offer partial body and face tans (helpful for winter when we don't show much skin anyway!). This is by far the best airbrush tan I have ever received and I have tried them all! Do not waste your time and money with any other product or service. My first appointment Lauren immediately put me at ease with her knowledge and professionalism. She gave a thorough review of her product and asked questions about what I wanted and things that had gone wrong in my previous spray tan experiences. She custom created and executed a flawless application unlike any other spray tan I've had. Since then, every other appointment I've had with her is consistent with the first. This is the only spray tan I've had that looks completely natural, actually washes out of my sheets, lasts longer than a week, and the scent (usually my biggest complaint) is light and pleasant. The business is run seamlessly; from a website that is easy to navigate, simple booking/cancellation online, and a follow up email or phone call with after care reminders and an offer to come back if the color feels too light. Lauren's passion for wellness is evident through the extensive knowledge she has on the products she uses, along with other skin products I have asked her opinion on. I purchased a scent free lotion from her that I now use every day. Living in the city, you can't beat how convenient this is.
