I have been going to this salon for a short time considering I am new to Marina bay. I have spent so much money there and yesterday I made a last minute appointment, that I accidentally missed today. It's Not like Me. they wanted to fully charge me for the procedure anyways. I spoke to them right away and asked to reschedule. I said I would split it with them. I got a "full foil" after switching from a salon where they used Redken instead of Aveda. with the hopes of going lighter and then going lighter again 3 months later which I expressed. I left with incredibly burned hair and I have been losing hair for six weeks since every single day. I cannot touch or brush my hair without it breaking. It is not falling out of my head, it is breaking so I have tiny baby hairs all over the crown of my head now, and all of the hair in the front of my head is broken off around my face. In addition to the fact that my hair hasn't looked good in six weeks and it won't for a year, because of this, it's actually darker than when I went in. I wanted to go blonder. Wasn't going to write this review, but I did not receive the right treatment. I will leave you with this- If your hairdresser doesn't get her hair done at her place of work that's a red flag. Lesson learned for sure. I'd love a refund because I wanted to look better and I have entirely ruined my self esteem instead. read more

Low end service in a high end setting! I recently moved to Marina Bay and I wanted to support the local businesses around the boardwalk. But As a new customer, I was totally disappointed from the moment I made the appointment to when I left the premises. Starting with the rude receptionist, who did not acknowledge my presence, I had to insist that she locate my appointment. Despite my informing the receptionist that I was recommended by one of the owner's friends, and, specifically asking for the owner, I was ignored when I made eye contact with her. It gets worse... The stylist had no idea how to cut my wavy/curly hair and I had to save myself from a disaster (in fact I have to go somewhere else to repair the damage). After this terrible introduction and service, I reluctantly returned to the receptionist to pay. Their website states that first time customers receive a 15% discount on services, and I mentioned this at the time I made the appointment. This same receptionist took my initial reservation, and confirmed at that time that she was noting the discount in the calendar. Of course, when I went to pay, I was assessed the full service price. When I reminded her about the discount, she recalculated, but only as to one of the services (I had two - a coloring and a cut). I just went along at that point, but this is a very bad business practice. Overall, the one star rating is for the stylist, who tried hard, but apparently (and this goes for all of the staff I encountered) was ill-trained for her job. What a pretentious place, good for anyone who cares more about the appearance of the salon, then the attitude and skills of the staff. And, you will pay dearly for that! read more

I read the negative reviews and was a bit apprehensive, but I decided the reviews were really about the management and not the work of the stylists. I had too much blonde coloring in my hair (highlights) and I wanted to go darker. I figured I had my Groupon that I paid $70 for and I'll be in and out with no problem. WRONG! The groupon said the services were a $140 value and included: "haircut package" with an Aveda Botanical Therapy deep-conditioning treatment, cut and blow-dry style with single-process color. When I got there I was told by the manager that the single process color was only for a root touch-up and I would have to pay extra if I had all of my hair colored. She said coloring my hair would require a "correction process" and that was a different service. I explained that other salons say "root touch-up" on their groupons if that's all that is included and it's made very clear. It didn't make any difference to her though. I had the services that the manager said were included in my groupon, period. The stylist, Kellie, was very nice and did a great job, but I had already decided that I would not be returning. When finished, I asked the woman behind the front desk what the full value of my groupon was so I could tip Kellie appropriately. She said, "$120.00." I said are you sure? She repeated $120.00. When I bought the groupon it said, "($140 value)", and that's what I used to tip Kellie. I think the manager missed a "Golden Opportunity" to get a new regular customer. I realize that she's in business to make money, and maybe the coloring is expensive, but she should have let the stylist color all my hair, explaining that I misinterpreted the groupon, but she would allow it "this time". I would also hope that she would revise the groupon so that it's abundantly clear that only a "root touch-up" was included. This is Management 101. I was very disappointed. I don't understand why a business would offer a groupon to attract new customers, and then dismiss the customer so cavalierly. It's too bad. read more

Where do I begin, so I intially bought this Groupon to use for Mother's day for two customized facials . At the time of purchase, the groupon itself never stated whether it could be used for one or two people when bought. After purchasing, I called to make an appointment and was told it couldn't be split for two but an exception would be made hence it was unclear about services on Groupon. Unfortunately, we arrived 20-25 minutes late due to construction on the grounds, so we were told both facials would only last 15mins less than the time the voucher required. On top of that, I would not be able to reschedule either hence we were late. Surely, I figured I could do mine on a later date especially while we were already there and I would just make it a treat for my Mom especially since it was Mother's day right! Guess again, I was flat out denied for no given reason really! Ultimatley, by this point We had no other options but to use our Groupon that day! As if it could'nt get any worse...once we were done with both our facials we proceeded to check out, and assumed we could use our $20 credit for any products used during our facials and discovered that too became another issue, due to the "exceptions" made. It was decided by the owner that the credit could only be split $10 each between the both of us. I was horrified and so embarrassed! Having no interest to spend a dime towards the level of disrespect shown, my mom couldn't wait to get out of there. According to the owner, there was no way accommodations or substitutes could be made. Other than her saying it would have to be applied separately. Therefore, you mean to tell me I would only be able to use $10 to go towards a 7oz tube of Aveda products which costs $40 making them an additional $30 profit! Ugh, I think NOT! AND I am far from cheap when it comes to products. Which made no sense! Especially, while one would think this would be an incentive to come back for future services over time. At that point quite frankly I was over it! I knew I had no intentions on EVER coming back or recommending this place to anyone. So BUYER BEWARE!!! read more

Nestled into the waterfront businesses of the fancy-schmancy Marina, Aria provides good services. My mom, who has a serious addiction to blowouts, was pleased. She thought that staff were pleasant, though very chatty. My facial aesthetician had gentle yet powerful hands and oooh that massage felt great! She used some relaxing techniques which pushed the facial up a few levels. While she was a very nice lady, the down points outnumbered the positives. Aria touts the Aveda line, yet she used another type of product on my skin that irritated sensitive tissue around my eyes and nose. Additionally, the room was fairly chilly which detracted from that whole relaxation vibe. While the final mask chilled on my skin she left the room for about ten minutes. I have a huge pet peeve with facials where I'm left alone for an extended period of time. If I wanted to slap on a mask and chill out, I could do that at home! Ultimately, I have to agree with Rebecca O.....Too much money, money, money, money for what they offer. read more

I go to Aria because my aesthetician came here from another salon and I won't let anyone put hot wax on me but her. I've never gotten anything else done here (hair, nails, facial) - just waxing. The three star rating reflects the LOUDNESS of the salon, the smallness of the treatment rooms and the tiniest waiting area you've ever seen. However, there is plenty of parking, the price is fairly on par with other spas, and Linda is the very best when it comes to smoothing my very pale and easily reddened and bruised skin. I'm going to try out some of the other services this fall, so I'll report back with additional yeahs or nays. read more

I was so sad to leave Aria when I moved to Seattle! I first found Aria through Groupon- they had a deal going for a cut and deep conditioning treatment. I booked my appointment with Amanda and I am so glad I did! The salon itself is clean and bright, located in Marina Bay. Amanda's great. She's very attentive to my needs and does a great job cutting. She gave my hair volume and shape- love it! The salon let me book several additional appointments at that same price. Another great thing about Aria is that they aren't product pushers. Drives me NUTS when I go to a salon and the stylist is clearly trying to meet her product sales quota. Also, it's an Aveda Salon, so it has that Aveda smell. :-) read more

Had to cancel due to a family emergency and instead of just letting me come in for the product I purchased they told me I would have to pay agin. In this day and age there is no point for that. I recently called to book an appointment because I was given a gift certificate for a mani/pedi. Unfortunately I had lost the paper gift certificate. I called to ask if they kept this information on file- and apparently they do not. This is 2015... you're telling me your system doesn't allow you to keep track of a gift certificate internally? The girl on the phone was pretty abrasive about it. I think it's crazy that they don't have on file when someone has received a credit on their account. Unprofessional. The only saving grace to this place is Christie who does mani/Pedi's once a week. She is super nice, beautiful, and does an awesome job. First time I went was w/ a groupon for the Aveda hair cut package. I don't recall it being anything special, but the staff was friendly. I don't usually do anything fancy w/ my hair so I just had it blow dried w/ some volume. I wish they had suggested something different, but I didn't ask so that's not their fault. They did what I asked. No issues using the groupon & I tipped on full value of course. I returned for a massage/facial and a pedicure. I forget the names of the girls, but they were both very nice and did good work. Marina Bay is a nice location, but it's definitely out of the way. Parking was confusing. The salon itself was clean and inviting. Never had an issue on phone or in person. Giving it a 4/5 though because I just wasn't WOW'ED at any point. My last salon trip (a place closer to me) was so good and that's what I'm comparing the rest to from now on. They did good work & if I lived closer I'd probably go back again especially now that I colored my hair. If I'm ever in area I may drop in for a nail service or facial. read more

Bought the groupon for a cut, conditioning treatment, and a style. Cut and conditioning treatment were great but the style was eyebrow raising. I asked for loose blown out waves curling away from my face with lots of volume and left the salon looking like Shirley Temple- flat roots, center part, and tight ringlets. My husband and I have been getting our hair cut by Sara for seven or eight years. My husband goes every six weeks and his hair always looks modern and professional. I visit only a few times a year, but Sara always takes my very long and wild hair and turns it into a manageable and beautiful style. My husband's 14-tear-old daughter has also started getting her hair cut at Aria. Sara has turned into our family hairstylist and it is such a treat to visit her. She always remembers what is going on with our jobs, asks about what restaurants we have eaten at lately, makes knowledgeable but not pushy suggestions about products we should buy, and is overall very attentive to our needs. She even gave my husband a free haircut before our wedding. It is those little touches that keep us coming back. I also visit Nicole occasionally for waxing services, and she is always extremely friendly and professional. I would highly recommend Aria to anyone looking for quality salon services in Quincy. read more

I have been a loyal customer to Johnna and have been pleased every time I walk in there. Yes I am a college student and services might get a little pricey but everyone there does an amazing job. Johnna has died, cut and styled my hair in many different ways and she does an amazing job at it. If you are looking for someone to do up-dos she's also amazing and helps you get exactly what you want. Nicole is amazing with facials as she has serviced my mom and grandmother and they love it every time! Did I mention everyone who works there has an amazing attitude and a great smile. I have been to Aria many, many times, although not on a regular basis because I don't live in the area full-time. Yes, the services are more expensive than you'd find in a typical salon in the area, but not quite as expensive as downtown Boston. I personally don't mind paying a little extra for cleanliness and professionalism. My most recent visit was for a prenatal massage, something one definitely would NOT want to skimp on. It was with Lisa and it was glorious. Just what I needed, with the right amount of pressure and attention to areas that needed it. Usually when I tell a massage therapist that I have a "thing" about having my neck touched, I get attitude and an abrasive comment about how "the neck area is part of the massage" or whatever. I know what I like and I want what I want - if I'm paying for it, I should not be made to feel uncomfortable about anything, and Lisa was completely respectful of my likes and dislikes. I will be back to see her for sure! They also have a new manicurist, Tina, who was very good. I chipped my pedi (from a previous service not obtained there) and so needed a toe polish change. Yes, more expensive than the local places but it was more like a "mini pedi" rather than a simple removal and repolish. She did an excellent job and I even got a little unexpected pampering. I think this place is definitely the nicest in the area (four stars is relative) without going downtown, and worth the money. Furthermore, if I am not treated with respect by the front desk, I don't return. I have NEVER had an issue with the desk staff there. The customer service was wonderful and I'm surprised at some of the negative comments I've seen on here. I can't say anything more than that I recommend this place at the very least for spa or nail services because I have never had my hair done here. read more

Sara is an amazing stylist. It wasn't until I saw her that I started absolutely loving my hair. I know, not very modest of me, but whatever - she gets it right every time - my haircut is easy to style, the highlights are always perfect. And she has the patience to answer all my questions. I also had a pregnancy massage at Aria and it was great. I don't remember the name of the masseuse. Another thing that I love about Aria is the view of Marina Bay - it's so relaxing and soothing to look at the water and boats as I am getting my hair done. read more

I went in for facial that I bought on Groupon and was not impressed. Felt like second class citizen (maybe because of the Groupon) the way I was treated. I sat in the waiting area for 20 minutes, and there was no "oh sorry she is running late" or "would you like water or tea" while the lady next to me was offered a tea. I had Amanda the first time and Toni the second and I would highly recommend both! The decor and vibe of the place is great and the views of the water make it a great and relaxing place to go and get glammed up! The owner (I think owner) Cheryl is very attentive and made sure I had a positive experience when I wasn't 100% happy with my hair color. I purchased a GroupOn for my sister for a facial and when she tried to book a service, she was treated very poorly by staff at Aria Salon and Spa upon recognizing she was using a voucher. They are prejudice against GroupOn customers and this is unacceptable. The idea behind GroupOn vouchers is to try out new places to decide whether or not to bring your business there. Clearly, this place thinks they are TOO good to accept GroupOn referrals and for their lack of professionalism- I WILL NOT RECOMMEND this salon. read more

My issue is with the owner/management of the salon. I have been a loyal customer at Aria for 8 years. Recently, I had my hair colored and was not 100% satisfied with it. I am blonde and my hair still looked as though it had dark roots. I called and they were able to fit me in with a different stylist that same day which was nice, however they charged me the same price that I had paid earlier that day (so I ended up paying double which in total is more than i have ever paid at the salon which made no sense to me since I get the same treatment done each visit) I was clearly not happy about this and had been in the salon for 5 hours at that point in the day. I feel as though the management could have done something more considering I have been such a loyal customer and have never complained before. As a result I will not be returning to Aria and will not be recommending it. I will however miss the stylists that I have worked with because they are great. read more

I do not know why I still continue to try and have a good business relationship with them. I live in the marina Bay Area and it is convenient to stop by for a facial or trim. The first time I had a facial was with a Groupon and it was the most unimpressive facial I have ever had. Pretty much a wash and mask that it is easily doable at home. The service desk personnel is rude but no one is as rude as the owner. At first I thought I was treated that way because of the Groupon and not giving the salon as much profit as usual. Two months later I scheduled another facial and trip. Amanda did a good job trimming the hair, but the facial and the attitude of the owner was the same. You are shamed if you have a Groupon, you are shamed if you don't. Me, being stupid enough and trying to avoid the ever worsening Quincy traffic, scheduled another facial and trim a few months later. Unfortunately, on July 1st, my aunt passed away unexpectedly and we had to drive to Chicago for the funeral. On July 3rd I call the spa to reschedule my appointment that was on the 6th clearly stating that I would be out of town and that I was giving them enough notice. The owner answered the phone and a verbal argument happened on her part. She refused to cancel the appointment and was giving me all sorts of reasons why. My experience with the spa ended with me hanging up the phone and deciding to never go there again. I still wonder what would she gain if she refused to cancel the appointment and I didn't show up? Charge me for services that never happened? The good thing- and sad thing simultaneously- is that with the new extra large condominium building in the area, marina bay has lost its charm and the salon has lost its one good thing going on for them. read more

There's nothing particularly WRONG with Aria, I just don't think that they're worth the money you pay to go there. Located in the Marina Bay section of Quincy, Aria really doesn't have that much atmosphere. It's in an office building, upstairs from Captain Fishbone's. The treatment rooms are sterile and uninviting, and the services they offer are nothing more luxorious or pampering than you'd receive at other spas. The staff is nice enough, though they always seemed more interested in talking amongst themselves than tending to the customers. I paid $15 for an eyebrow wax there, which is more than i've ever paid for such a treatment. After tip, that's 3 minutes of my life that cost me $20! Frankly, I would have rather taken that 20 bucks downstairs and had a couple drinks at Captain Fishbones. read more

Being a fan of Aveda when I saw the Groupon offer and loving the products they use I said I'm going to get it right away, but I went for highlights and got basically no change, asked to trim the bangs and I got no much change. Basically spent money for nothing except their treatment that I could have got online. Booked an apt for myself and friend/business assoc for a mani/pedi. I go to a spa every week. Unfortunately my regular spa could not accomodate us together at least they were honest so I found this one. UNFORTUNATELY. They said sure, only cared about a credit card to hold the ressy, and when we showed up after the treatment was started, we were told that the mani/pedi would not be together. That I would have to get mine after my assoc. I landed up not getting the servcies, am now having to cancel business metting to go get the services as these were for a black tie affair tonight for business. Highly unprofessional. They try to blame it on the client. That they told. They can't even get it straight as to who booked. The manicurist was honest and told us that they knew they lost one manicurist the week before and were down to one. Why just not tell us.?? You decide if you want to be treated that way. Not to mention no Amex, and can't add tip on CC all not told in advance. If you are used to the high end luxury well go see for yourself and decide. Take a tour first and you can decide. Why bother with appts. if you can't keep to them. read more

Super upset with my hair. Spending even more money after getting my hair done. Asked for full highlights because Kasey did a fabulous job with my partial foils that I went and tried getting the full highlights but with someone new, named "Kenzi" because Kasey is no longer working here. It's an absolute nightmare and I'm spending more money to tone the orange when I specifically asked for no brass/orange. It was so bad I tried everything to fix it. I understand how dark my hair is but Kasey was able to make my hair ashy exactly how I wanted it. I don't know what happened this time but the placement and color of these full highlights are horrible. Super frustrating putting more time and money after spending a lot for this hair. Also to add it was 3 hours of silence which was pretty awkward since everyone else were chatting. I understand people make mistakes but for the amount of money it's not worth it. Unfortunately I cannot return when I had a great first time. Absolute nightmare and the orange is not going away, it's everywhere. read more
