if you're looking for a big variety of different drinks like smoothies and fizzy sodas, and not just Boba, as well as some delicious food, this is definitely the spot to go. I've been coming here for a few years and I'm always satisfied every single time. I highly recommend the chicken wings, very crispy and tasty with the ranch and sweet-and-sour sauce. it is a small restaurant, but the scenery is very cute. The Urban Tea House is located in a very busy area of ASU so be aware. Thankfully they have a small shared parking lot. The parking spaces are a commodity here. Street parking is not an option on this busy street. There were several vendors in this plaza, mostly eateries. The House is small and clean. I took a few minutes to study the menu and decided on a raspberry slush. The slush was ready in minutes. It was refreshing and very flavorful. Probably more sugar than I needed but I was thirsty. Not only do they have drinks, they also have a limited food menu. I saw Banh mi on the menu. I wasn't there for food so did not really look at that part of the menu closely. Just a heads up that "traditional boba" here is Honey Boba. At Mochi Fresh and I-tea, Brown Sugar Boba is the "traditional" kind that is chewy and almost black. I wrote a review earlier and deleted it shortly after (before I saw the business response so I'm assuming they responded to tell me the same thing I'm saying now) because I saw a recent photo that must be on their counter somewhere saying that their brown sugar boba is a crystal boba. I think it might help if on their main menu they call it "Brown Sugar Crystal Boba" to make it more clear (the way it's written on the small sign). Right now on the main menu it is called Brown Sugar Boba so I thought I was getting the chewy tapioca kind that I am used to ordering at other places in Tempe. Now I know for next time. read more

Urban Boba is a bubble tea shop in the ASU side of Tempe, huddled between other small eateries on a strip. Parking in back and several seating inside, this small bubble tea shop has several locations in AZ. They serve both bubble tea and bánh mì along with seasonal icecream snacks like taiyaki. I've tried their birthday cake drink which comes in a large size and is actually not a bubble tea option rather a milk shake. Made with their icecream, the consistency leans more towards an icy rolled ice cream texture and flavor and is less milky than regular ice cream. Thankfully the employee told me that this was only made for a large size, so I wasn't surprised that I may or may not eat the whole thing because it definitely was very filling for one person. It had some fruity pebbles in it and had a birthday cake flavor. Not too bad but the flavor and texture of the ice cream was lacking. Nothing really stood out for me in this tea shop; the flavors were nothing new or eye catching (in terms of NY standards) and the birthday cake shake didn't satisfy my sweet tooth as I was thinking more of a milky ice cream shake rather than a watery flavor. I go to Halal Guys and Ahipoki in the same plaza every now and then, and I would always take a peek inside the "Urban Boba" store space to see if they were open. I was excited to hear this was their grand opening weekend, just in time to cool down for summer! The menu is pretty extensive, with a plethora of options for fruity, creamy, slushy, or ice cream based bubble tea drinks and dessert. They also have a selection of hot food too if you want to snack on anything. The mix-in selection was also impressive, with items such as various popping boba, regular and crystal boba, jellies, pudding, and grass jelly. I had a royal milk tea with grass jelly and had a sip of the banana milk tea with rainbow jelly. If you order an iced drink you have the option of blended or over ice (I chose over ice). The order came out quickly and had a single layer of ice on top, with a sizable amount of grass jelly floating around the top of the cup. The banana milk tea also had a sizable amount of jelly. The flavor of the royal milk tea was well balanced. I could taste the tea and it had just the right amount of sweetness. The banana milk tea was refreshing and cool. The total for the two 16 oz sized teas was around $8-9 with tax. The space is bright and uncluttered, but a bit small so it's probably not the best place to hang out if you're with a large group. They do have an outdoor front patio though facing Rural Road with a few tables for more seating. Overall, not bad! Came here the other night to get my Thai tea boba fix. I have been to their Happy Valley location and was excited to see this place opening by ASU. There can never be too many boba shops; in fact, there needs to be more up north in Scottsdale and North Phoenix. I ordered my standard drink and waited at the seating area. There were a few people ahead of me so it took some time for my drink to come out. It was a fairly busy time with more folks coming in after me. Love the aesthetic of this place! Simple and clean (queue the track for KH). They have a Polaroid wall where you can hang up pics. We got here when it wasn't super busy and it took a while for our drinks to come out. Hopefully they pick up the pace for future boba rushes during the school season. The 16 oz is 3.99 + tax which is a little more expensive then some boba milk teas at other places. They do have an extensive selection of flavors and even some appetizer food items. We ended up getting the Sesame Seed Milk Tea, Matcha Milk Tea, Red bean milk tea and a Fruity Pebble churro. Matcha was my favorite. If you like sesame, you might like the drink since it does taste like it. The churro was kind of bland. I didn't like the red bean as much either. They now have interesting menu (Tea, Smoothie, Vietnamese, Chinese, Mexican). This time I tried Vietnamese chicken sandwich, Mexican Elote, and Avocado smoothie. The sandwich is full of sauce from saute chicken. It is hard to eat with hand and the sauce is a bit too sweet. I had to add the chili sauce on top. Mexican Elote and Avocado smoothie are pretty good. A while ago, I used to get Taro Boba before and it was way too sweet. I went back last week and got an iced coffee with boba. I got it with soy milk but the Bobista said they use dairy free creamer which is awesome! Short Review: If you're here for the milk teas, well then, you have made the right choice. Urban Boba Tea House specialize boba tea drinks from teas to smoothies. They also sell snacks and Vietnamese Bahn Mi. To be quite frank, I'm not into boba shop that sells Vietnamese Bahn Mi or anything else for that matter, because originally, boba tea is a Taiwanese thing and they mainly do just milk teas and teas itself. Having slushies, smoothies, ice cream, and any other snack is by extension and creation, which is fine in some sense, but it also diminish the true connoisseur of the traditional Taiwanese boba tea. That being said, Urban Boba shop does a great job with their milk teas and I will say more if you are interested in reading. Continue below. Long Review: Urban Boba Tea House is located about in the center of Tempe of Arizona. Currently, as of 07/29/2020, there are many construction around Tempe so there might be traffic here and there, but it wasn't difficult to get here per se. The parking can suck sometimes, as it is on the back of the shop and kind of limited if you are unlucky. After parking, you'll be force to walk about 1 - 4 minutes depending on how far you parked and how slow you walk. It isn't too bad, but the hot weather can be ridiculous at times. Once I arrived at the entrance, I opened the door and it turn out to be a rather small shop. The inside feels kind of forest-y; Like a hippy forest den. Not criticizing, just judging and observing. I don't understand the purple wall that has the word love on it either. I'm not sure what they are aiming towards, but hey, I'm just here for the drinks so... Looking at the menu, it can be overwhelming, but with some of the images posted on the wall from top to bottom, it can help you decide a bit easier. Not all menus are captivated by photos, but it sure do for the most part. As always, I would go for the milk teas because that's the whole point of a boba shop. I got Yokohama Milk Tea and their Urban House Milk Tea. Both took about 3 - 4 minutes for my order to be ready. Yokohama Milk Tea: I don't have enough evidence to actually make a factual statement, but I sworn, this is Hokkaido Milk Tea not Yokohama. Never heard of Yokohama Milk Tea in my life, and not quite sure if that thing even exist (outside of Japan, of course), but it sure doesn't taste like something I have never tried before. It taste exactly like Hokkaido Milk Tea, in which I have tasted at Snoh Ice Shavery, Lollicup (in California), and you can actually get a bag of powder labelled Hokkaido Milk Tea by Tea Zone (Brand name). First of all, this milk tea is good, don't get me wrong, but I don't like that they may be misleading people out there thinking this is some special Yokohama Milk Tea, because trust me, any boba shop you go to doesn't have such thing. And since I have tasted and it doesn't taste any different from Hokkaido Milk Tea, it is rather misleading. Obviously, what they're doing isn't illegal or anything, but it is misinformation. I just want people to know that before buying it. Urban House Milk Tea: A solid milk tea. You can taste the tea without the bitterness, the creaminess without it being milky, and sweetened at a good level without it being overly sweet. If they stay consistent to their milk teas, I don't see any problem. Black Boba: Got boba for both drinks. They are yummy. The chewiness is just right, firm, but still bouncy. Marination of the boba was alright. I feel that it can be a little more sweeter, but I suppose it's better than some boba shop that don't even bother marinating the boba making it taste like plastic wooden stick. In conclusion, for quantity for both milk teas, a B+ and in quality, an -A. I prefer their Urban House Milk Tea over "Yokohama" Milk Tea. Other than that, I don't think I'm wrong about the misinformation about the Yokohama Milk Tea. They might need to reconsidered changing that milk tea drink name. Either that, or actually come up with a drink that is different enough to be called Yokohama Milk Tea. I should note that Yokohama is the 2nd largest city after Tokyo and it's in Kanagawa Prefecture. On the other hand, Hokkaido Prefecture is on one of the 2nd largest island of Japan and they are well known for their seafood, and their delicious milk ingredient/product; hence, Hokkaido Milk Tea. But, in any case, I do recommend their drinks here, not so sure about their snacks. read more
