I reached out to 3 professional moving companies when I needed help with a move. Urban Clarity was the only company that responded to my query. They did so within a few hours. Perhaps it was because I initially only asked for 2hrs of help and wanted that help within 3 days that the other 2 companies never responded? UC have a minimum of 4 hrs which allows them to cover travel time/costs but were willing to work w me and allow me to book 2hrs as they had someone available. Megan arrived and got stuck into helping me sort, trash, donate and pack. I'd never used a professional organizer before - I do my own sorting and consider myself a very organized person. I only reached out for help because I put my back out when I was about 2/3rds way through being "there", ready for the movers. I'm so glad I did. For me it was similar to having a trainer. You've both made a commitment to show up and focus solely on the job at hand. They know what they're doing and how to get there. Faced with the prospect of moving from NYC to FL during the pandemic, we knew we needed a company that was trustworthy and organized to manage our move. We had left our condo in DUMBO months earlier planning to return, but we decided to move permanently to FL and wanted to stay in FL for the move. How would we move our condo full of priceless art and antiques without being there? Urban Clarity made that possible and painless. Anett, the office manager, and Annie, our project's organizer / move coordinator, were flawless. Note to Urban Clarity: make your clients sign a no-poach because I would hire either of these professionals! The process was well explained: Annie developed a punch list, went to our place, organized, Fedexed us high-value items, and dealt with little things we needed done before we moved. Anett handled coordination with our building to reserve the elevator and move date, along with the required docs from the movers. Annie managed the mover interviews with and did a virtual walk-through of our condo with the movers. Ahead of move day, Annie shipped us mail and packages, as well as digging around to find our marriage certificate and other personal docs so they could be sent insured ahead of the move. She also identified and donated a lot of clothing that had...shrunk so I no longer could wear it. All done with the highest degree of professionalism! On move day, I took off work to be available remotely, but I needn't have done so: Annie inventoried and labeled everything per our instructions ahead of time. Knowing what's in each box was amazing upon receipt! She even handled the daily tips for the movers (with our money, obviously). We used Celebrity Moving (recommended by Urban Clarity), and while they were hilariously expensive, we were thrilled with the results. The most important thing Urban clarity gave us for their fees was peace of mind about the move. I couldn't recommend this company (and Anett and Annie!) more highly! read more

AWFUL! I called Amanda and was very clear about what I needed. I told her I had lived in my apartment for 20 years, that it was cluttered, that I needed to make space for my niece, that I needed a truck, and that I was on disability. In her response she says that the accumulated clutter of 20 years couldn't be dealt with in a day. Really?! Why hadn't she thought of that when I told explained the situation in my initial phone call? I didn't hide anything. I was absolutely honest. That's more than I can say for Amanda. For example, she didn't arrange for any junk removal company to come haul anything as she claims in her response. If my apartment was as unusually horrible as Amanda implied, my niece's mother wouldn't let her child stay there, nor would the young woman want to. My niece's boyfriend had dumped her quite suddenly and she needed a place to stay immediately while she looked for a permanent home. My niece is the reason I called in the first place. My apartment needed serious de-glutting. I own many books. Hundreds. Probably close to a thousand. I also have a lot of clothes. I told Amanda all this. I told Amanda I was going away for a few weeks on Sunday and wanted the place nice for my niece. I said I needed a truck to haul stuff -- I was VERY clear. Amanda said her people would be there on Friday. I began to prepare by emptying drawers and shelves. My niece was very hurt by her ex and I wanted her to have places to put her stuff. I wanted her to feel at home while she looked for a permanent place. A man and a woman showed up on Friday. Late. They should have been on time. The woman walked in and said, "There is no way we can finish this in one day." What? I told her we had to. I had already told Amanda I was leaving for a vacation the next day and that my niece was coming. She said she would have to get a truck. I thought we already had one. I had told Amanda we needed one. Everything was a mess. The people who showed up knew nothing about the job. They were not prepared. I called Amanda to find out what was going on. In her response, Amanda said that I was emotional. That may be the only entirely honest thing she said. Of COURSE I was emotional! Amanda makes a normal response to her lack of professionalism sound like a character flaw on my part. I was extremely frustrated and stressed. I was crying. I was humiliated because I was crying. Amanda told me she wouldn't talk to me because I was being rude. I am sure I wasn't perfect. But rude? I was CRYING. I hired her to help me do an important job. I was clear about what I needed. She bungled every aspect of it. I asked if she knew anyone else who could help on such short notice. She said she didn't. Ultimately, I wound up having to do everything myself. It was horrible. Since I thought her people were coming, I had pulled stuff off shelves and from drawers. There were piles everywhere, waiting to go in the truck that was supposed to be there but wasn't. I would have been better off if I had never called Amanda. I needed help creating a welcoming space for my niece -- it didn't happen. Instead I was insulted and Amanda reprimanded me as if I had done something wrong. I was left with more work, more of a mess, and it was a nightmare. I thought I had been overwhelmed before. Amanda made it worse. I added the following after I saw Amanda's response to my review: Amanda saying she was concerned for the safety of her team is ridiculous and dishonest. I am a middle-aged woman on disability for a serious and chronic physical illness. Amanda sent two people, a woman and a man. I was very upset and I used profanity, but I never threatened anyone. There is no way anyone could honestly have felt concerned for anyone's safety. The fact is, no matter how I behaved, Amanda and her team were not prepared and were unable to do the work. Lying and saying she feared for the safety of two people, one of whom was a man, when faced with a crying, middle-aged, chronically ill woman on disability is a pathetic attempt to blame me for a situation she created. It's NOT my fault that Amanda was incapable of getting the job done. I told her everything about my apartment and did everything she asked. She just clearly didn't do what she was supposed to do to prepare. I resent her defaming my character with her lies. There was no reason to fear for anyone's safety. I was CRYING. CRYING. It was absolutely HUMILIATING. Unless Amanda is frightened by middle aged women who have a debilitating chronic illness shedding tears, there was no reason for her to fear anything. Yes, I did swear. This is New York City. It's not a big deal. And my swearing in frustration in no way excuses the fact that Amanda and her team were inept, unprepared, and her team was late. Amanda didn't do her job correctly. Period. This is her fault. Her trying to blame me is indicative of how irresponsible and dishonest she is. read more

After 37 wonderful years in an enormous apartment in NYC, my husband and I decided to downsize about a year ago. My daughter was at college in NYC and our home is far, far away. She came home in March for Spring break and, because of the pandemic, her college went online. We had no access to my daughter's dorm room until June, when her school began offering appointments for students to collect their belongings from their dorms. I used Urban Clarity as my proxy to pack and ship my daughter's dorm room. They were nothing short of exceptional. Because they are not "just movers," they were very comfortable acting as my eyes, hands, and feet in this situation. Urban Clarity was candid and direct during the planning conversations. I happen to be a bit of a control freak so I provided them with a ton of detail and instruction (which they probably would have been fine without) which they accepted with grace. The team and I communicated via FaceTime and text throughout the process. Everyone with whom we interacted was kind and thoughtful. The boxes (22 of them!) were carefully packed and clearly labeled - down to notes on individual items such as "this is breakable - be careful when you open it."
