This place is a joy to shop in and I always feel like it's nice respite on the weekend to walk around with my coffee and find little treasures. I found a big treasure recently and got a new couch from them! Beautiful couch! The owners even helped me decide when I went back and forth forever between another couch. The delivery service was great as well.I couldn't find his company to give a review but I'll post his business card as well. Urban Cottage is one of my favorite shops in Atlanta!  It is a family-owned business in Virginia Highland that has the most beautiful home decor, candles, seasonal decorations, and even cute women's clothes and jewelry.  I love the blessing beads they sell that are handmade in Atlanta and love their adorable room full of baby and kid items!  One thing I love about Urban Cottage is their ability to make special personalized pieces for gifts or for your home.  Among many other things, they have made me beautiful wood trays, wood benches, and a custom wood puzzle board.  I have found the Urban Cottage team to be really great and the owners are the sweetest people!  So happy I found this gem! read more

Not a very ethical store: I suggest others do not shop here since they say I should have seen their "no refunds" sign, faintly written on a chalk board, not readable from the cash register. They would not issue a refund for a dress I purchased just a few days earlier. When I said I did not see the sign, I was told, "sales clerks *usually* mention the policy and it's printed on the receipt [after the sale]." I'd prefer to have a refund, but now I have a credit - and have no need or interest in shopping there. If we had been told of the policy or seen the obscure sign, we would not have made the purchase. They were pleasant in their refusal, but I prefer to shop at stores who are more transparent and treat their customers better. read more

I stopped by Urban Cottage while waiting to meet a friend for coffee at Aurora. To me, it seems like the typical V-Hi shop. Cute, a nice mix of antiques and new stuff, and overpriced. They offer clothing, stationary and soaps and hand painted signs of tucked away neighborhoods like Reynoldstown, and Cabbage Town. I wasn't really able to shop in detail, but I did notice the curly girl design stationary section. I'm a sucker for cards, postcards, and magnets that offer up snippets of wisdom on living a full life. My biggest gripe about places like this: they take a nice piece of furniture, say an end table, paint it black, rub it down a little with sand paper, and call it "aged". Slap on a price tag of $199 and you've just made it an antique. I would visit again for some of the smaller gift items, but I'll stick to actual antique stores and garage sales to find my furniture. read more

This little house has a great mix of housewares and gifts. I bought a lovely bar of French soap and a cute letterpressed postcard. They have the most original greeting cards I've ever seen. It was hard to limit myself to just one. The downside: the owner (or cashier, I'm not sure she was the owner) was not friendly at all. They have a bathroom in the store with a working sink and toilet, but it's just a display space for goods. A little girl tried to use it as a bathroom and the owner/cashier yelled at the little girl. Oops! Maybe take the toilet out? Also, the goods are a little pricey. Not recession friendly. read more

I've gotten to the point where my apartment can't hold any more decorations without looking cluttered, making my trips to Urban Cottage even more difficult. Cute iron hooks, birdhouses, shelves, silk print signs and other shabby chic adornments cover the two-level store. I floated around Urban Cottage last night, looking for a little something else to add to my mommy's Mother's Day goody bag. I found a couple sweet-smelling soaps in the shop's mock bathroom, unable to resist perusing for a while longer. I also stocked up on some cards, falling in love with a pack of "Greetings from Candler Park" postcards, made by a local artist. She fashions several neighborhood greeting cards, including Grant Park, Morningside, Inman Park, etc. My Candler Park set, comprising soft paper, has a little gnome screened behind the text. Although I no longer need large decorations for my home, I like to stock up on small, usable necessities at Urban Cottage. read more

Urban Cottage is so cute in their new location right in the middle of Virginia Highlands right next to the Aurora Coffee. They have all sorts of cute things for your home. I a big fan of Urban Cottage. It is conveniently located next to a coffee shop, so after you get your caffeine fix (at the also impressive, Aurora Coffee) feel free to drop on into Urban Cottage and peruse. That's what I did, and I found some great things for my apartment! They have a large variety of merchandise, a little bit of everything from stationary to actual furniture, and a few pieces of clothing. The majority of the things in here have a custom or rustic look to them, and fits in well with the neighborhood vibe for sure. The girls who worked there were really helpful when I was in there. I always appreciate good help because so often you find rude people unwilling to price check, or do anything that involves making an attempt to be helpful. The displays are great and gave me ideas for my own apartment as something to build off of! All in all this place might be a little bit pricey but I like the people and what they sell! Also finding parking might be hard in Va-Hi but that's the whole neighborhood... drive down some side streets you'll find some spots on the street. read more

Their merchandise ranges from small items (greeting cards, stationery, magnets and whatnot) to higher ticket items like furniture or Pine Cone Hill bed linens. I went shopping here today. I dropped in to browse the furniture and accessories. I generally like the designs of the furniture and accessories, but I was disappointed in the pricing. Most of the furniture seemed to be of good quality but, some of the detailing on the pieces seemed lacking for the price point. The worst part was the felling I was being badgered out of the store. The girl behind the counter kept asking me if I needed help, following me around. I like good service but this bordered on "shrink control". read more

I had heard so many good things about this store, so I was very excited to finally get a chance to check it out. The store is undeniably cute and in a wonderful location. The vibe in there is nice, and it's a great place to stroll into and browse while you drink your coffee from the coffee shop next door. There were a couple of things that disappointed me, sadly, and will prevent me from giving this store higher marks. First, with the furniture and art excepted, I saw quite a few "accessories" that were WAY overpriced. Most of the gifty-type items can be found elsewhere or online for cheaper if you know where to look. Second, I was very interested in purchasing an upholstered piece, but was quickly turned off after having to deal with the very rude owner. She answered my questions with condescension and with little patience, which is shame because the piece would have been perfect. Luckily, I know where I can find an almost identical chair. I will not be recommending or returning, which is a shame. I was very excited about this place after my hearing my friend's recommendations and I wanted so much to like this store. Frankly, I'm used to overpriced items in the Virginia-Highland area, but had the owner showed just a smidge of patience or respect for her customers, I might be returning. read more

Their products are so special, unique, full of personality, and a perfect addition to any decor. What makes this place a standout is not just what they sell, but who is doing the selling. I placed an order a week ago and it still hasn't shipped! Not Happy! Do I need to cancel my order and order some place else?

I really like the furniture they carry here. However, doing business with them is a huge pain. I ordered an end table from them, which they said would take 5 weeks to come in. I decided to wait, and when I called back 6 weeks later, the end table was nowhere to be found. They never ordered it! (nor did they offer to at that point) I recently bought another item from the store, paid and took it home. The charge on my credit card statement was $40 too high. I went to Urban Cottage last night for a event they were having to support Kate's Club (non-profit supporting children who have lost a parent). I had driven by almost daily without stopping in, and I am so glad I finally did! This place is trendy, but also has vintage (or vintage inspired items) that I loved. A bit out of my price range at the moment (just graduated from college), but I know that as soon as I am moving into my own place I will be back to find some unique pieces to furnish and decorate in a tasteful, but interesting style!!! read more

I had moved to a new place and the leg of my chair had broken and I needed a new one. I went to the store and there was a man there who had been working at the Urban Cottage a long time. His hair was grey and he had three rings on each hand. He showed me a wooden chair and said that he liked it and thought I would too. I did like it and after I bought it a mover came in an old truck to deliver it. The mover smoked a cigarette inside my foyer and told me I was lucky to have such a good chair to sit in. I told him not to scuff the floors on the way in. read more

I went to Urban Cottage the other day after reading Bobbin W.'s review about the store having neighborhood-centric postcards and such. The store is interesting, indeed. It has two levels, with a bunch of themed rooms. One room has clothes, and is like a walk-in closet, another is a bathroom (I thought it was really a bathroom and didn't venture in), and yet another is like a bedroom, complete with bed. They have all sorts of tchotchkes perfect for gift giving- jewelry, art, hilarious hand made cards, soaps, etc. I ended up getting a little sign that says, "Welcome to Candler Park" that is distressed as if it has been out in the elements for awhile. Definitely worth a look-see. read more

I have always loved Urban Cottage and shopped there fairly often. However, I find their customer service policies unfriendly. I bought a pillow off the sale table and it ended up not matching my sofa. I took it back and asked if I could just exchange it. The salesperson said, "Sorry, our return policy is clearly stated " (it is written on a chalkboard behind the counter). I think their merchandise is cute, but you can find it any number of other shops in Atlanta that have better service! read more

Recently I rediscovered this gem of a store in V-H and I keep going back. Whether I'm looking for pillows or a funky mirror for my mountain house, a one of a kind wedding present for a favorite niece or a birthday present for my sister, they have it all. Last week i even found a great shirt for myself made of Eco-friendly fabric that I'm sure will receive heavy rotation in my closet. The merchandise is good quality, with many unique pieces. And did I mention the customer service? It's great - very friendly and helpful. We lost a lot of wonderful independent gift stores during the Great Recession. Happily, this one survived and seems to be thriving. read more
