I would come to the Urban Diner more frequently if it were closer to home. As it is, I try to come here once a year. One of the best things about Urban Diner is that they have their own parking lot. Street parking is difficult to find in this popular area of the city. I've nearly always been able to find a parking spot in their lot. Today I ordered the sandwich special which was a schnitzel burger with the daily soup instead of fries. It was nice, not extraordinary, but good. My guest had the breakfast special which was a schnitzel bennie. It looked really good and she enjoyed it. I've never had a bad meal here. I really appreciate the fact that it's not too noisy here. Too many cafes are so loud that it's hard to carry on a conversation. The Urban Diner certainly isn't quiet, but it's quiet enough to hear your guests talking. The service was quick and friendly. Prices were reasonable but not cheap. In the Highstreet area of Edmonton, this is probably one of the more reasonably priced cafes. The coffee was good and includes free refills. I'll definitely be back again and I can always recommend Urban Diner to anyone looking for unique dishes. read more

I was here for brunch today, it's been awhile....we sat on the pation. Half the table was shade, half was sun. There's an assortment of sun/shade seating. 1-2 more umbrellas would give more sun/shade options. My party tried the veggie frittata, the breakfast burger, the egg sandwich, eggs Benny and an assortment of beverages. The food is good, the service is fine, and there is lots of parking out front and out back. This remains very good. read more

Service was fast and efficient when we came here for brunch on a Sunday. I ordered the breakfast sandwich which was pretty standard and nothing to write home about. Husband had the breakfast burger which had a meatloaf patty which he seemed to enjoy. Because they don't have a kids menu I ended up ordered the mini pancakes with a side of bacon for my son. He thought the pancakes were too sweet after drizzling the chocolate and caramel sauce on top so he ended up only eating a few. The outdoor patio looked inviting with all the greenery but we ended up sitting indoors because it was a bit too hot that day for comfort. Likely won't be back anytime soon since the menu isn't very Child-Friendly but this is a solid place for anyone else looking for a place to eat in the neighborhood. read more

Located right by the populae street of 124th. Urban dinner is a popular brunch and lunch restaurant. The restaurant is on a strip mall type of location with ample parking. The decor is very diner-like. Lots of woods, somewhat comfortable chairs. The service was prompt and courteous. I ordered the only vegetarian sandwich here. The veggie burger was decent, the patty had lots of vegetables and quinoa. It was in a brioche bun with lettuce, tomatoes, onions and havarti cheese. My side were the fries. Overall the dish was decent. Nothing extraordinary. My partner ordered the chicken club that was the same as mine, average. Overall decent place to try and that's about it. We stopped during a weekday for breakfast and it was steady busy. Our server was polite and efficient. Not overly chatty but fine service. Enjoyed our food very much. The diner has has corned beef (was more of a roast), hash browns, poached eggs and Hollandaise. I wanted my eggs medium but they were definitely more soft. My husband loved his breakfast burger and if you like a lot of meat, it has meatloaf, ham and bacon. Will fill you up for the day! The vibe is very much home diner with cute seating. They posted a photo of their beef dip on their Instagram page and I had to try it. I get to their restaurant order the beef dip and something comes out that looks nothing like what they advertised. All fake marketing aside, the sandwich was pretty good, not the best beef dip I have ever had but definitely not the worst. The atmosphere wasn't great. Definitely has diner vibes but due for a bit of an update. The restaurant was clean though and very busy for a Wednesday afternoon (so they have to be doing something right). They do not have a kids menu, but my boy was good with me ordering a side of fries and a side of fruit. The server was great, not super chatty, but always made sure we were taken care. I don't know if I would be back for lunch or dinner, but being a diner I might have to come back and try their breakfast which they serve every day till 3PM. read more

We went for Saturday brunch and was extremely satisfied with the quality of food served. We found parking adjacent to the restaurant at the shopping center next door. We ended up shopping at to of the stores there as well so parking wasn't an issue. We waited 10 minutes for seating and was able to order upon seating. My husband had the chicken and maple waffles which I tried. The waffles were super fluffy and the chicken was perfectly fried but still juicy. I ordered the clubhouse and it came with a pickle and the creamy mushroom soup. The soup was definitely the star of the pairings and the sandwich was jam packed with quality tasty ingredients. We brought dessert home and I can't wait to dig in later. I definitely need to have brunch here more often! read more

Urban Diner has been around for a long time and is a pretty sold staple in the Westmount breakfast scene. Serving up American-style grub, they do it in just the right way which makes everything somehow perfect. They were even featured on the first season of You Gotta Eat Here! There was a point in time when they had a second location south of the river that has since closed, but honestly all you need is the original. While they do remain open until 8pm each night and have a great menu for lunch and dinner fare, what you really want is the brunch (served on weekends and holidays). Brunch is where it's at. I arrived first thing on a rainy Saturday morning. I had hoped to sit out on the lovely patio out back but the weather had different ideas. Instead we took a table indoors and were seated by a friendly staff member. The space is somewhat large with different seating areas within the dining room, all centered around the kitchen as a focal point. There are tables and booths collected within a decor that is simple and easy-going. The restaurant is laid-back and reliable. I started my meal with a warm cup of Red Rose tea, just the small caffeine boost that I'd been craving. Like most brunch offerings, the menu consists of items that are more like breakfast as well as items that are more like lunch. They also post their specials on a chalk board above the kitchen window (I once found a Beef Brisket Benny on the specials menu that blew my mind). But today was going to be about the classics. There are four items on the Sweet Tooth section of the menu but you only need one: Dutch Poffertjes (Little dollar sized pancakes with icing sugar. Served with chocolate sauce & orchard fresh syrup for dipping. 12 per order - $8.00). I'm pretty sure that if they ever took these off of the menu that the restaurant would just shut down. Each pancake really is hardly bigger than a toonie, making them extremely easy to pop into your mouth, devouring each and every one. Cooked to a fluffy perfection each tiny pancake is golden brown with a light crisp on the outside while remaining soft on the inside. The warm chocolate sauce is especially sensual to dip into. If Urban Diner has a signature dish, it's probably this (or maybe the breakfast burger made with meatloaf instead of a patty). Also, look no further for an ideal kid-friendly plate. Can we just talk about the music at Urban Diner for one second? Because it was the ACTUAL BEST. They were playing the best 80s hits and each song was better than the last. I probably spent more time dancing in my chair than eating my food. What a great way to start the day! I do have a favourite dish to order and it's from the Mains section of the menu. I've ordered it many times before and I ordered it again on this occasion: Diner Hash (Corned beef, potato, caramelized onion, hollandaise, poached egg - $15.00). I don't know what it is about a dish like this but it just speaks to me. I was given a choice of different types of bread as an accompaniment and chose the sourdough. I was also asked how I wanted my eggs cooked and requested them "medium." For me, this plate takes what's good about eggs benedict and sends it in a different and delicious direction. The crispy golden potatoes are tossed in a savoury mix of sweet onions and tender, flavourful corned beef. The eggs are just runny enough and the whole thing is drenched in hollandaise sauce. Everything tastes fresh and homemade. Even the bread on the side (which is normally no more than an afterthought) was soft, warm, and clearly baked in-house. The jam on the side? Definitely homemade. This relatively simple dish is an explosion in comfort. Somehow Urban Diner takes their classic plates up those few extra notches which elevates the entire experience. I've been to this restaurant many times before in the past and there is something to be said about the places that stay exactly the way that you remember them over the years. I came to Urban Diner bc lots of people say its great for breakfast in Edmonton. SO I came here for saturday May long weekend for breakfast before going to Fort Edmonton Parks opening weekend festivities. At 930 am we were seated immedietly and our drinks bought to us right away. Nothing special about the drinks, Just that the waitress did refill my coffee several times which was nice. We ordered the salmon eggs benedict, the kids scrambled eggs and sausage and the dutch mini panacakes. We got our food within five minutes of ordering!!!! The food was average at best with a bland sort of taste but typical diner food. I have had much better at wildflower grill or at madisons grill on sunday brunch. I wont go here again unless im in the area and wanting breakfast. Although at 1000 this place had a lineup out the door. So come early and get your food fast with great service otherwise expect to wait for awhile for average food. I would go towards Jasper avenue to wildflower grill next time though. read more

This is my go-to for diner fare with tasty gluten free options. All-day breakfast! Parking might be scarce at times, but the food is not! I usually order a classic breakfast, but last breakfast visit had a Bennie. Yum oh yum. The hollandaise sauce was absolutely perfect. Poached eggs done just perfectly. And grilled/pan-fried potatoes for celiac diners. The Diner potatoes have sweet potatoes mixed in which is a nice (and healthy) add-in! The Iced Tea served here is a unique blend and I definitely order it pretty much every time I am in. We've enjoyed the Dawg, the hash, the huevos, frittata, bennies... and glutenfree cheesecake!!! During All Is Bright we dropped in for supper. We shared the Shepherds Pie (traditional style) prepared without gravy to make it gluten free, and ordered a couple of Boylan's sodas - they were out of fountain cola... it had been one busy day during the festival! The pie would have benefitted from the gravy, but it was still very tasty without. We were glad we shared the pie - the portion was plenty enough for the two of us! Left us room for dessert. Finally! Saw this place online and decided to check it out. A quaint little dinner on the corner of 124st and 102 ave amongst several privately owned specialty shops. I decided on the black angus burger. Let me tell you what. You'd better be hungry and be able to do the "hunch" to get your lips around this big boy. Not to mention the truck load of fries it comes with. Wow. So delicious and I definitely recommend it. The gf decided on the turkey club sandwich. Another monster sandwich and another truck load of fries. Recently I've been on a dire hunt for milkshakes, which is an added opportunity to branch out from the typical Denny and Ihop joints. In this case, we had our eyes on visiting Urban Diner on a Friday night, by no means is this a new establishment, but it's one of the few that has a special treasured spots for university students. Urban Diner has that retro feel that brings back memories of watching That 70s Show; totally rad - totally retro. Serving breakfast all day with the added home cooked comfort dishes, not to mention the case of desserts out on display, you're bound to find something to soothe your soul. We ordered 2 of the 3 blue plate specials of the night. Flemish Beef Stew - 5/5 - The beef chunks were so tender and moist, the thick stew was packed with flavor having a subtle hint of ale, being rendered down to such a rich and gravy like consistency then served on top of creamy mashed potatoes. This by far is the definition of comfort food. Fried Chicken Drumsticks with a side of Mac and Cheese. - - years ago they had fried chicken on the menu and it was the biggest rave, fast forward to this dining experience and it was WAY below standard. Fried chicken was bland, the breading came off the chicken entirely once you took a bite, which was bland and as dry as ever. The only hope in this dish was the mac and cheese. The cavatappi noodles mixed with cheddar cheese brought out the kid in me. Mac and cheese alone, 5/5 Brisket Poutine - ($9.75) - 3/5 -Cheese, gravy, chunks of brisket served on fresh fried fries, yes please, sounds great. Too bad the brisket was dry which made it quite chewy. Pass on the protein. Chai Milkshake - ($6) - 5/5 - It's a friggen chai milkshake, this was worth all the calories. Totally biased though since I have a slight obsession with chai and was in a deep craving mood for milkshakes. I'd honestly stop by Urban Diner just for this milkshake alone. Tbh: salivating as I type while thinking about said milkshake. Service was great, our server was friendly and personable, while not missing a beat with refills and taking plates away. The menu had a variety of sandwiches which was what I was looking for and a cup of soup. If you didn't want soup or fries, there's salad for an additional cost of $3.50 which I found a bit steep. The chicken noodle soup was tasty, not too salty and had lots of chicken, vegetables, and pasta. I would be happy to have a big bowl of this soup and some bread on a cold day. The clubhouse had a mountain of turkey and the cranberry chutney was a perfect addition, as was the crisp bacon. I brought half of it home to eat later in the day. For example, the fish and chips are more like deep fried pre-battered frozen fish filets than cod rolled in batter then fried. The meatloaf, also competent, but the unexpected cranberry jam turns the meatloaf from savory to sweet. Unexpected and therefore not really appreciated. While not a huge menu, there is osmething for everyone, from mac and cheese to a hot dog to meatloaf. But these are not dishes prepared any ordinary way. They all have some sort of gourmet twist to them. Prices are in the midway range, and desserts are extensive. Most of them are baked right there and the aromas of freshly basked goods can fill the restaurant. Come for brunch on Sunday mornings/early afternoons. The weekday lunch menu also features numerous brunch items. Urban Diner closes early on Sundays and is closed on Mondays, so you might have to plan a "spontaneous" visit. We were a table of 10 and this being my first time here, I learned they have a very interesting seating policy. Apparently your whole party must be present before they'll seat you. The place was absolutely packed for a Saturday - luckily, my sis made a reservation. Weekends must always be like this. We eventually were able to mosey our way to a booth table although it was a tad cramped. Our server was friendly and everything went pretty smoothly (minus her almost spilling a whole cup of water on one friend). Key word, almost. I won't go through what everyone else ordered as I don't have many pictures but the apple pie french toast looked dope and was my second choice. - Frittata ($12.00) - you choose the type of toast you want - I went with marbled rye and it comes with a side of blueberry jam. The frittata was a tasty mixture of chicken apple sausage, eggs, bacon, spinach, portabellinis, artichokes, tomatoes, peppers, leeks, swiss, and mozzarella cheese. It hit the spot for me. It's definitely big enough that you could easily share and order something smaller to split. I'm a fan of their drink menu, which had a clever "Pimp your Drink" slogan to it. What's a better time for mimosas than brunch right? Urban Diner's been a staple in the neighbourhood and I can't see that changing anytime soon. So we ended up here because it was a beautiful day and we wanted a patio to sit on to enjoy lunch. As a disclosure based on their menu, this would not be a place that I would try. I really like ethnic food or a diverse menu. I am not a breakfast nor diner eater at all. So I can't say I was thrilled with the choices. However, if you are the person that loves down home cooking then this is probably your place. Safe breakfast items, things like meatloaf and burgers. I have to say I was not thrilled with the service. The servers were not friendly or helpful nor attentive even though the place was not that busy. Definitely lost a star here. I ordered the veggie eggs benedict and my husband ordered the burger and fries. Food was rather slow going out, but we had time to enjoy the sun outside. I do have to say that I wasn't expecting much to my meal but it was delicious. The hash browns were typical and well cooked, the eggs were perfectly cooked but it was the veggie patty underneath that made this dish amazing. Flavourful full of yummy veggies it really paired well with the runny eggs. If I ever come back here this will be the only thing I order. We've been here a lot, but I never remember to review it - so here we go! It's typically quite busy when we come for brunch on the weekends or lunch if you're there after 12. Parking can be sparse, but there is street parking that is free next to the plaza. I find the service to be spotty here. Either super friendly and chatty, or very curt and abrupt. Also, they're good about refilling your coffee, but there's something about the taste that isn't right - it tastes watered down or something? For the food, I'm a fan of the poffertjes - tiny pancakes that you dip in chocolate sauce and/or maple syrup. They're just fun little things to share. The apple pie french toast is also delicious and a half portion is usually more than enough for me. At lunch, their soups are surprisingly good - always have a split pea on the menu and the rotational one is usually pretty tasty too. Their reuben is my favourite sandwich off the menu as well as the beef dip - both piled high with meat and packed with flavour. Parking was a nightmare... as a St. Albert guy this is why I avoid downtown Edmonton. I probably sound old and lame, but I don't want to pay for parking to go eat lunch when there are a million other good options elsewhere. It took me ten minutes and $6 to find parking a few blocks away... that sucks. But the payoff was an awesome lunch. At the suggestion of my dining companion I had the Meatloaf Sandwich. It was fantastic... and huge. The cranberry thyme chutney they serve it with is soooo damn good. I had a side Caesar salad... it was small but very tasty. As it was a Friday work lunch we decided to compliment our eats with an adult beverage. We've been here before, and it's been generally good. Tonight was a disappointment. The rose they poured was basically flavorless (not sure why). The beer by Brewsters was good though. I had "Disco fries" with "brisket". I've loved brisket for years. I guess we all have seen varying kinds of brisket, but I tend to prefer the darker, caramelized fatty and juicy kind. The environment feels shabby-chic, leaning more heavily on the chic so don't expect cheap, greasy food here. The Urban Diner is a modern, upscale version of your average diner. It's got black and white checkered floors, and plays the local radio to give it that diner atmosphere. The service is fast and friendly; I like that the waitress came to check on me now and then. The prices are pretty reasonable for the amount of food you get. Well, UD has always been one of my top places for brunch in Etown. Today, however, has left a sour note to my palate. I usually go there on weekends, so their smaller weekday brunch menu was a surprise. That said, I looked forward to a delicious breakfast sandwich. While the food was amazing as usual, the service was almost like in a twilight zone. Not a single staff member greeted customers with a smile, and they seemed like service robots, saying what they needed and not even giving eye contact or anything. Would I be so bold as to say they all had RBF? Yea, I think that sums it up. I suppose they don't need tips or care to work for it. I'll never go there again on a weekday and will likely divert to the south side location. read more

I was just walking by and really hungry when I noticed the Diner sign. A quick search on Google showed a good amount of stars, so I decided to go in... I was not disappointed! I ordered their back bacon benny (how alliterative can you get?) and it is one of the best ones I have eaten in Edmonton. The eggs were done perfectly, the back bacon was good quality and flavourful and the two eggs were nested on a luscious piece of bread... but best of all was the hollandaise! Perfectly seasoned and oh so tasty. And to top it off, they make perfect pan-fried potatoes.. nice and crispy and not underdone how I hate them. Service was also rapid and friendly. My boyfriend and I go here to eat a lot, and would be lying if we didn't say that it was because of the fries. I mean, the place is super cute, nice staff - very friendly and helpful. But the fries... So good! Also, the prices are very fair and decent, and the food tastes amazing. Their desserts are fresh and delicious and they have great specials. My friend and I went to Urban Diner and had brunch yesterday, and we were not disappointed. I don't live in Edmonton anymore so I can't frequent UD as often as I used to and I saw recently on insta that they had done some Reno's. We went around 1230 so there was a bit of a wait but it was totally worth it and only about 5 minutes. I ordered their special, the Italian Bowl. I have to say, bruschetta with porchetta and hollandaise is so good. The only think I would have preferred were pan fried potatoes vs deep fried, but I get that that's a personal preference and I'm in the minority lol My friend ordered the same. I had my eggs hard poached and she had medium and both were done correctly. Thanks UD for another great meal. I'm sad I didn't have room for the lemon icebox pie. read more

We seen this place driving by one day. We went back this weekend, Breakfast was delicious, service was beyond excellent. The waitress said the lunch menu is just as good especially if you love clubhouse sandwiches, beef dip and pulled pork!! Can't wait to try it out! read more

Food was pretty good and the service was as well. My partner and I did not receive a glass of water during our meal which I found odd (maybe that's an 'Ontario thing'?) The server made it sound like my poutine add-on would be cheaper than it turned out being also, but without that (hamburger helper) poutine, my meal would have been a flop, so no regrets. Just wish she had have been honest about the total cost before my order. We will inevitably be back to try different items on the menu as it is close to home, and many more things that had they offer were calling to me! :) read more

If you want comfort food and good sized portions that use local ingredients, this is certainly the place to go! The last time I visited I had a delicious Monte Christo, perhaps the best such sandwich I've yet eaten. I loved the fact that the food is just so flavourful and not overly processed. Yes service might be a bit slow but you're not likely to find such great comfort food options elsewhere. Quite honestly I'm super pleased with the delicious food and beverage options here (don't miss out on the dessert here too if you like that kind of thing!). I had a wonderful chai milkshake on my last visit as well and it was marvelous. read more
