This review is directed to the Hathaway's Diner located on 124 st, which has the same owners as the the original one. The restaurant itself is really sweet inside. Definitely 50 diner vibes. I loved it. Super fun. Our server was helpful and friendly. Although a little ditsy. Forgot our order after we made it. Forgot our drinks. But nice and super apologetic. We were there for breakfast, so we decided both on the steak and eggs. We both asked for the steak to be done medium rare. My hubby asked for eggs scrambled while I asked for them to be sunny side up. Food came out slowly which was odd because besides us there was only one other couple dining (The weather was nasty outside). Food was tasty. Our steaks were cooked to our liking, and the seasoning was great. My eggs were cooked well. They were probably the most beautiful eggs I have seen for awhile. I was really disappointed with my experience today. My Reuben was so not satisfying! Very little meat in it and it was really salty. The first thing you see are two vintage gas pumps. Seriously love the vibe. Though it's small, it seats loads and it's never a long wait for a table, as they move fast! The food is delicious! We had a wheelchair and right as we were coming in, Alandra greeted us at the door and helped us in and had the perfect table for us. She was sooo welcoming and kind . As we were looking at the menu , another super nice waitress came over and welcomed us and was just sooo friendly! We ordered our food and it came soo fast and was delicious!! Everything about the restaurant and the atmosphere was warming . During our stay, a gentleman came over and said if we need anything at all , he is there for us. I love Hathaway's. I've been multiple times since it was first recommended to me and it has quickly become my favourite Edmonton breakfast spot. Make sure to get there early! On the weekends, you need to arrive before 10 if you don't want to have to wait. Even on a Friday morning, nearly every table was full. Things do move pretty fast though so you won't be left waiting for long. They have a decent variety of vegetarian options including eggs benedict, omelettes, french toast and a burrito. It doesn't appear to be particularly vegan friendly but it's worth asking. While their breakfast is excellent, the highlight of Hathaway's is their pie selection. I almost always grab a slice (or 2!) to go whenever I visit. All of their pies are cream-style and the flavours are available on a rotating basis. So far my favourites have been the flapper pie and the pistachio pineapple but I've never had one that wasn't delicious. The best part? They let you purchase a "frankenpie" made up of 6 pieces of your choice rather than just getting a single flavour when you purchase a whole pie. They also recently started selling "puppy pies" so make sure to pick up something for your dog while you're there! read more

It's definitely off the beaten path, although one visit and you'll wish you had Hathaway's in your neighborhood! The diner is definitely cozy, with multiple seating options and a great vibe. Really excited to try this place! Easy to find via Google Maps. Parking is available right in front of the restaurant. Cool decor inside - lots to look at and great conversation peices. A variety of seating - bar stools, booths, tables and chairs. Specials were written on a board but we found out before ordering pie that the pie list is very old and lots are not available. I tried the Breaded Crispy Chicken sandwich with side tossed salad with Italian dressing. Bun was good, chicken was Very Very small and disappointing as it didn't even reach the edges of the bun. Slaw was so mincd it didn't have a very nice crunch. 4/10 for the buger. I liked the cucumber and tomato in the salad, lettuce was really tasteless. Father got the steak sandwich and said it was good. Fries were hot and decent. Mother got the Grilled Cheese burger AKA cheeseburger with bread instead of bun. She was not impressed and it was a lot of bread. For pie we tried the coconut cream, Limeberry, and Strawberry Shortcake. Coconut pie was definitly homemade as it had a very strong custard taste but lots of sweetened coconut flakes inside. I give it a 8/10. Strawberry shortcake was very large which is fun. Not too sweet but also got boring after eating half of it. Would have loved to see strawberries inside it to give it more texture/acidity. The Limeberry was 10/10. Great tart taste, great portion, flavor, color. Full of fresh berries - they were not cheap! All had graham cracker crust which was a suprise. I prefer homemade flakey pie crust and the graham crust was really messy and does not stick together at all. But good flavor. Waitress was very friendly and kind but charged us for 3 drinks (at $2.50/drink) when my father only had 1 coffee and the rest of us had tap water. My husband and I went to Hathaway's Diner on our way out of town. We're not often on the north side so it was a good reason to check this place out. We go there around 9 am on a Saturday and were seated right away. After sitting for a few minutes all of the tables were full. This place fills up with a long outside the door, especially on a Saturday. Once seated we perused the menu and found lots of diner breakfast staples (omelets, French toast, pancakes, bennys etc.) Starting with drinks. I loved the iced coffee. I was only expecting literal ice and coffee but was treated with this delicious coffee drink. Whipped cream was so good. My husband got a strawberry milkshake. It was good but not the top of his list. He's a bit of a connoisseur. Our meals were good. I like the breakfast burrito. It came with hash browns. Nothing too special but very filling. I was only able to eat half. We liked my husbands skillet more. Lots of toppings. We were also unable to finish. I loved the sausage. They were fried crispy and we're still juicy. The best part of the meal was not photographed, unfortunately. We got 2 whole pies to bring to our hosts for our trip. We got a flapper pie and a pistachio-pineapple pie. They were both very well received. Flapper pie is a vanilla custard pie on a graham cracker crust with a meringue on top. So good. The pistachio-pineapple pie was the diners most popular according to our waitress and after tasting it I can see why. I love all of the crushed pine apple in the filling and the pistachio added a nice creaminess. Overall, had a great experience and would probably come back if we were on the north side. Our one concern might be the slightly slow service. It's a busy place and it's hard to get the servers' attention. Hathaway's is an Edmonton staple and I'm pleased to see it's maintained it's quality even after changing hands. We were here last weekend for my bachelorette and while we definitely noticed that portion sizes are much smaller (and my fiancée also noted his food was quite bland-mine was fine), the overall quality is still there. Pie was incredible and is a must while visiting. My only real critique is that we had to ask for more water and coffee, as well as the bill even though it was quite quiet, but I do think they were training new staff so that's perfectly understandable. Took my little guy here on a Friday for a lunch date. Thankfully we were able to get a table right away as during peak/busy times the wait is easily out the door due to the smaller size of establishment. Service was quick and efficient as always, however friendly. Food was plentiful and full of flavour. The kid's breakfast meal only came with one piece of bacon and plenty of hashbrowns, would've loved if it came with 2 pieces instead for my little guys. I found the hashbrowns slightly over salted but otherwise prepared well. The 4 oz burger I ordered was more than big enough (I couldn't imagine ordering the 8oz one!) and the accompanying fries were crinkle cut and good. We took 2 pieces of pie to go (no room for anymore food!). Limeberry and coconut cream pie. Both were good but portion, taste and appearance-wise, the Limeberry excelled of the two. Don't mess with the classics. Who doesn't love a good, comforting diner experience? It feels wholesome and right. When Avenue Magazine said that Hathaway's was the Best Diner 2020 I had to check them out for myself. Located in Wellington, they're in a part of the city that I don't normally venture into. However, they've been around for over 13 years (which I didn't realize!) and have been making people happy with their filling meals ever since. In fact, they only do breakfast and lunch so don't be rolling in expecting to grab some eats later in the day. When I arrived on a Saturday morning there were customers outside waiting to get in - probably a good sign that people like this place. It didn't take too long (and the weather was lovely, making an outdoor wait pleasant) before we were seated inside at a table with a shiny aluminum top. The restaurant is cute and small, offering tons of kitsch all over the place. The floor is checkerboard and there are knickknacks as far as the eye can see. It's what you want your diner to be, honestly. The music was also very good. I think that they were just playing the radio (which feels like a Saturday morning to me, complete with the smell of bacon in the air) but I liked all of the songs. Our server was extremely friendly and happily collected our order. Although I will say that the service was a bit on the slow side and we felt somewhat forgotten about on several occasions. The restaurant was completely full of customers and I understand that it was a busy time of day. But still, a little more attention when needed would've been nice. Hathaway's offers extra special things on Saturdays! For example, they only make eggs benedict on Saturday. There's an entire whiteboard devoted to the day's specials but it was the Drink Special which caught my eye: Mimosa (Champagne & orange juice - $6.99). I normally order black tea when I have breakfast in a diner setting but I figured that this was a good opportunity to treat myself! Unfortunately our server forgot about my mimosa and I had to ask for it a second time, hoping to receive it before the meal was finished. But it did arrive and was super cute with a cherry on top. Unfortunately, I found myself asking if there was any champagne in it at all (or if they had forgotten it). I'm used to a much more obvious taste of champagne and effervescence, of which this had barely any. Seemed pretty expensive for a flute of orange juice (not fresh-squeezed). There are tons of breakfast options on the menu and the majority of them are exactly the types of dishes that you hope for when you visit a diner. They do skillets and omelettes, as well as the aforementioned eggs benedict on Saturdays. However, I was in the mood to go ultra classic - it seemed like the right thing to do. Hence the Breakfast Classics with Bacon or Sausage (2 eggs any style, served with your choice of toast & homemade hashbrowns or pancakes - $11.99) being the choice for me. The food itself was served quite quickly and an ideal plate of breakfast comfort food was laid before me. I also enjoyed that our server automatically brought two different types of hot sauce to our table, which I appreciated as a hot sauce-loving kind of girl. I ordered my eggs "over-medium," which is the way to go in my opinion. This cook tends to avoid any of the white being runny, which I personally dislike. These eggs were done perfectly! A few shakes of salt and pepper on top and they were exactly the way that I like them. I went with the toast and hashbrowns as opposed to pancakes. I was offered about three different types of bread to choose from and selected the sourdough. Nicely buttered, I loved the slightly tart flavour of the sourdough and enjoyed adding peanut butter and strawberry jam to my slices. The hashbrowns were pleasantly tender, however I found them a little light for my taste. I would have preferred a bit more crispy browning which would have added a bit more flavour. But after some salt and some ketchup and hot sauce to dip into, they were acceptable. I chose bacon as my meat and requested that it be prepared "extra crispy." And it was! The bacon was served exactly the way that I like it, nice and crispy, without any chewy fatty parts. I was also impressed at the amount of bacon served on the plate, as I'm sure that I was given at least four strips. This meal was pretty darn close to ticking every box in terms of creating a comforting, classic breakfast plate. I couldn't leave before getting some pie! Hathaway's is known for serving amazing homemade pies and of course I wanted to try a slice. On my visit there were nine different types to choose from. However, we waited and waited and no one returned to clear away our breakfast dishes or to ask if we wanted anything else or even to drop off a bill. The food is so down-home cooking, everything is delicious. I had the veggie skillet when I came this time and it came to the table hot, which is how I like it! The sourdough bread was buttered to perfection. And there was enough that I was full but could take a little bit home for a light snack later. Tried Hathaway's for brunch for the first time after just randomly searching for a place. I love family-run restaurants and breakfast places. When Hathaways popped up, I had to try this place. Nestled in Wellington neighborhood in the Northside of Edmonton, this diner looks very modest on the outside. But when you get inside, it is an environment of little busy hustle and bustle diner feel. I was greeted by the owner in a big smile and seated quickly, which is actually pretty lucky for me because after I sat down, I noticed a line forming at the doorway. I definitely lucked out in my timing in that I beat the early brunch rush. Yayyy!!! The staff were very cordial and the menu items were awesome! Theres specials each day and it appears that they have there usuals and ones that you never expect. I ordered the vegetarian omelette. I was able to pick a side of hot sauce and also some salsa to go with my omelette. The food looked amazing and the server was extremely nice and attentive to my needs. The owner came to my table several times to check on me and to make sure that I was okay. The coffee here was also very fresh and the servers made sure that there was always a top up. Came into Edmonton for a work conference and we had to check out this highly rated, well talked about diner. Well it did not disappoint at all! You walk in and it's surrounded by the coolest new and vintage memorabilia all over the walls that makes you feel so nostalgic you can't help but take pictures. We couldn't decide what to eat cause the menu all looks incredible so the owner Mitch come over and went through a few things, made suggestions and made sure to answer all our questions (we had many ). Every single dish we ordered came out looking better than the next but OMG the taste of everything blew us away!! It was all so delicious and you bet we packed up a doggy bag cause non of it was going to waste. Everything is made in house and you can feel the love and effort that went into creating and making every dish! Even my mimosa came out with a fun addition of cotton candy. You're welcomed by a glass display of the most whimsical, mouth watering pies (again made in house) that makes you want to skip lunch and go straight for dessert. This place had been on my list for awhile since a friend posted some pictures of the pie. When I heard that the beef dip was even better I had no trouble convincing my husband on eating lunch out. Located in a small strip mall the place is quite small with limited amounts of tables. We came for lunch and while we didn't have to wait the place was full the entire time we were there. First off customer service here was awesome. It's a mom and pop joint and the chefs wife bops around the place taking orders and filling cups before they're even half empty. Her smile and personality was a bright as the tropical print skirt she was wearing. We ordered both the Ruben and beef dip to share. The beef dip had large chunks of tender roast beef. We ordered the delux and for the price I felt it could have used a bit more of the extra toppings. That being said the sandwich is good but my God the dip. I think it was more of a light gravy then an au jus but it was packed with beefy salty flavour. The kind of flavour that makes you want to lick the bowl out when you're out of bread. And shamefully yes, that's exactly what I did. I also love the complimentary horse radish. The Ruben was what you'd expect. But I loved how without asking we were brought a jar of mustard. Just in case that's how you like it. Extra sauerkraut added no questions asked. I ordered my meal with a side of the country tomato soup. When u arrive the outside appearance is not appealing, but I thought it it's not the appearance of the restaurant that makes the food, so we gave it a try. Once inside, it's rather cute, like a route dinner but what makes the restaurant awesome was the food! The best coconut cream pie that I have ever tasted plus the variety of different pies that was offered was amazing! My daughter had a dunkaroo pie, soooo good!
