Urban Family is hands-down one of my favorite breweries in Seattle! Located in Ballard, it's especially worth a visit if you're a fan of sours,I always look forward to stopping by when we're in town. The space has a great patio, and I love that it's dog and kid-friendly, making it such an easy place to relax and enjoy a beer. They also have a coffee shop, so you can start your day there with coffee and stay for a beer later. Their hours are extensive, with the coffee shop opening as early as 8 a.m. Another big plus is that you can bring your own food or snacks, or grab something from one of the food trucks/food parks outside. And if you find a beer you love, their beer to go is really affordable. Great beer, relaxed atmosphere, welcoming space, and just an all around good time. I absolutely love this place and highly recommend it when you're in Seattle! read more

I love a sour beer, so I went here looking for those. The vibe is fun and they have lots of board games, but the beers disappointed. They were sour, but the flavor of the fruit that leach was supposed to have just wasn't there. So they were sour, but bland. Service was mediocre as well. You order 5 beers, they don't label them, and they don't sell flights, despite giving you 5 small pours all together, and they don't bring them out to you after you sit down. They tell you to sit, get comfortable, and then tell you to come back and carry 5 unlabeled glasses back to your table that taste mid. Mid beer drinking experience, fun board games. For being a brewery that focuses on lambics and sours whilst still offering a variety of beers, I didn't really know what to expect but found the beers to be generally good with certainly more hits than misses. The misses were big - there was a really interesting tea beer that sounded up my alley but the combination just did not work at all. But they also had one barleywine that was fantastic - rich, smooth, boozy but not tasting of booze. And a good Oktoberfest Marzen that I quite liked too. This brewery is a fantastic find. The location is convenient with plenty of parking. We loved the outdoor fire pit--it was so relaxing. The beer is solid, and they serve it in glass cups. There are a decent amount of breweries within walking distance of this one so this place could be one stop in your brewery-hopping itinerary. Food trucks park here daily to serve food since the brewery does not have food, and they have a calendar online with the schedule. There is indoor seating, additional seating upstairs, and outdoor seating with heat sources and fires for those colder days. There's no dedicated parking lot but there is street parking in the residential neighborhood. My first drink was the treehouse in the city ($10 for 10oz) which had a high ABV with strong flavors but was sweet and easy to drink. My second drink was the lighthouse in the woods hazelnut & vanilla ($10 for 10oz) which was also good. I sampled this one and the orange & zest and I liked the former more which was what I settled on. My third drink was the crash test mummies ($3.50 for 5oz) which was lighter than the previous two and was decent. If you're looking for other options, they also have cider and even a sour beer slushie. The servers were friendly and let me sample different beers before committing to one. If you're a fan of sours, this is the place for you. I wanted to try most (if not all) of the breweries in the area, so I was glad that Urban Family did offer a few lagers. I'll admit that this was one of our many stops while we were sampling the local breweries. While I'm not crazy about sours, I was pleased to see that there was indeed a beer they carried that I could try. I was also pleased that you have the option to get a portion less than a full pint. A 5-ounce glass of beer was really all I wanted, and sure enough, that's what they had and that's what I got. A solid choice if you're in the area - again, especially if you're into sours. Urban Family Brewing fits in the cluster of breweries in the area with medium sized list with some good ones tucked in. It's really in a central place with several other breweries just a few steps away. The staff on both my visits aren't all that energetic perhaps they want to appeal more to regulars. There isn't quite as much feedback with recommendations here. The list here isn't huge but my favorites are "The Future Is Ours" IPA and "Phantasm of the Frost Lands. Along with that, they have a few sours, porters and Light lagers. The indoor seating is fairly spacious with tables and counter seating. The patio is nice with long tables as well as round ones with umbrellas and an outdoor fireplace. Urban brewing has some good unique beers and nice seating. Finally had a chance to pop in her after grabbing a sandwich from Layers Sandwich had been wanting to try both and was finally able to. Was torn between trying tue guava passionfruit sour or one of the sour slushies. The mango slushy won out on this toasty day. Very spacious spot and the staff was very friendly. The last brewery we visited while in Seattle was Urban Family Brewing. Urban Family Brewing Company is a small, family-friendly craft brewery in Seattle, Washington that specializes in hazy IPAs, sours with local fruit, and other styles as well. While we were there they had a DELICIOUS smelling food truck stationed outside, but we had dinner reservations so didn't want to spoil our meal. We got a flight of their fares, covering each of the menu sections, to get a feel for what they are doing (spoiler: they are doing it right). Zeek and Destroy: A Double IPA brewed in collaboration with Zeeks Pizza. Hazy and delicious with a medium body and a bit of chewiness (oat/wheat perhaps in malt bill). I got some light notes of guava, medium-high candied orange peel, and ripe mango. Delicious IPA for sure. Let's All Go to the Lager: A Foeder-Fermented Corn Lager. Let me tell you, this was our favorite of the flight and one of my favorites of the entire trip where I had my fair share of beer. Dry and crushable with good corn flavor and just a hint of foeder woodsiness. I wanted a four pack of this, but sadly they didn't have any! Treehouse In the City A Barleywine aged in Westland Whiskey barrels. Caramel, molasses, and bourbon vanilla lead the flavors. The depth continues with a bit of oak and almost dark cacao nibs. Alcohol warming and a hint of astringency. A Barleywine I would order again. Stove-altine: A Coffee Stout brewed in collaboration with Old Stove Brewing. They added Maple, Coffee from Onda Origins, and Lactose. This is a maple mocha if I ever did drink one. All the adjuncts clearly come through without one single one overwhelming the others. The base stout / coffee stout definitely shines with just a hint of maple, lactose sweetness, and additional coffee depth. Brain Thiller: A Sour with Pineapple, Coconut, and Orange Zest. We heard they had Santa, Mrs. Klaus, and reindeer so we wanted to bring our child. Unfortunately, his nap time did not work with the schedule! They also had holiday vendors. Regardless, it's a cozy, nicely decorated brewery with ample indoor and outdoor seating. The 2nd floor is only for 21 and over. We chose fresh air outside where they have a fire pit and many overhead heaters! Perfect for our family and dog! Ordering was easy with 3 people taking orders. They're known for their sours. Yes, they have a few other Hoppy options on their tap list, but their Sours are just absolutely amazing! - PARKING - Street parking, wherever you're lucky enough to find a spot! - SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT - Huge outdoors area as well as indoors, so plenty of space to bring your friends and family. There's a small firepit outside if you're prone to getting cold but would recommend bringing a jacket because their indoor area is quite open. Service is quick and attentive! - BEERS - We ended up getting a taster of every single Sour - there were 4 of us though, so we managed to finish everything! That's also due to how amazing each of the Sours were. Decent amount of people on a weekday night which shows how big of a draw this place gets. I was very impressed with the space, very open and airy, lots of seating. There is an outdoor area with firepits, lots of indoor seating, and an upstairs seating area as well. Of course, they are known for their sours. But I tried the Stovaltine Stout and the Schwarzbier. I loved the Schwarzbier because it's like a stout, but without the heaviness. My first time having that kind of beer and will definitely be getting more! A cute spot in Ballard, next to a ton of other breweries -- would be a great stop while brewery-hopping in the area. They have a large indoor space, as well as an airy, outdoor patio. They always gave great food trucks outside as well. Their menu has a ton of sour beers, and also some great hazy IPAs. Therefore, Urban Family is basically my temple. I love the variety of sours offered (I will never NOT drink a sour here), and the chill vibes overall. The Planetary Bombardment (Strawberry Guava) is my absolute FAV but honestly I haven't had any Urban Family sours I didn't like. I was an early mega fan of Urban Family when they were located in Magnolia. In fact, I applauded their singular focus on sours and fearlessness when it came to developing unusual flavors. I considered them to be the best brewery in Seattle and among the best purveyors of puckering suds in the country. Since they've moved their facility and tasting room to Ballard's brewery district, I've visited a few times and I feel they've dulled their edge in an effort to make their brews more appealing to the IPA-swilling masses. No doubt, the decision to relocate to Ballard was a smart one, they've probably noncupled their weekly traffic. I still enjoy their beers, but it's been a minute since they've done anything that has blown me away. read more

My absolute favorite brewery in Seattle! They specialize in Sours and have a very large selection. I love that they usually add a new (or few) different beer to their lineup every 2 weeks or so. There hasn't been anything I've had here and didn't like. Visiting here is great! Love that they are dog friendly. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. They often have a food truck (website will have a food truck calendar) and some at other breweries on the street, but you can bring your own food in. Doors are usually open, so it can get cold (bring layers in the fall/winter!). The staff are all super friendly and efficient so the line goes quick. Also really appreciate that you can get 5oz pours too instead of just a full glass to try more of their beers! Highly recommend! read more
