I've been here a couple times and the first thing I love is the plants seem mostly very healthy and there's allot of variety. I was allowed to browse quietly which I appreciate. There's such a nice vibe at that location. I'm 68 like the disgruntled reviewer but, my honest opinion as a retail worker is she had to have been the difficult one for the store to have to resort to what they said. Part of shopping locally is the experience of working w the owners/ employees - I don't want to discount the good experiences I had here, my lovely plants purchased, or the effort to have a local business however, the good also does not justify the bad. If you aren't looking to make a connection w the people you're buying from - and if you do, not able to trust it- then this place is great. My experience was, one day first-name basis and the next blatantly rude- lost sleep rude. Like, walk away saying "wow- that was rude". In the end, I understand - dealing w people is challenging and businesses need to make money- that said, I don't want to feel more like a dollar sign than a fellow plant lover. Oh well. read more

I feel I was treated unfairly at Urban Garden and I would like to warn potential customers, especially senior citizens, to think twice before shopping at this garden center. I purchased a Dahne shrub from Urban Garden on May 7, 2022. At the time of purchase, I asked the clerk if I could return it. She replied YES and added that I should read the bottom of my receipt for details. (I figured, by the time I got me receipt, there was no hurry to read it.) I did not see any signs at the garden center that indicated returns on plants were not allowed. So, I thought I was in good shape. Less than 24 hours later, I found a much better deal on the same kind of shrub, so I decided to return the one from Urban Gardens. Uon arrival, I was directed to speak to a male owner, who informed me that returns were not allowed. I explained that the clerk had told me that returns on plants were okay. He replied that that had been the clerk's first day. I told him that was not my problem and that if I did not get satisfaction, I would contact Yelp and other sources of customer protection. Immediately, in a gruff voice, he accused me of threatening him and ordered me to leave. While in a state of shock, I loudly informed customers in the area to be certain of their purchase, since returns were prohibited. Once again, he ordered me to leave. As I was leaving, a female employee called out to me, " I'll call the police!" I can honestly say that, in all my 68 years, I have never been treated so unfairly and so rudely by a retail establishment. I encourage you to shop elsewhere. read more

NEIGHBORS BE WARNED: The Urban Garden wrote a response to my review that directly violated the community agreement of Yelp - it was so bad that YELP HQ REMOVED IT. They attacked my family and posted personal information about us in an attempt to get me to remove MY review. This speaks volumes regarding their attitude towards customer service. They even went so far as to publish personal details on other sites about my family, utilizing our names from emails sent directly to them when we were trying to fairly resolve this issue. Keep looking at other reviews - there are several that discuss dead and diseased plants from the Urban Garden. We never asked for a refund, I provided them pdf's of the charge from our purchase on our credit card, and this is their response..... Publishing personal details on "anonymous review sites"? Signing up on Yelp just to insult customers that weren't happy with your service? These should all be telling signs of the type of business you are dealing with in the Urban Garden. Buyer beware..... A NOTE TO THE URBAN GARDEN: I will NOT be BULLIED into removing reviews. Our Family, Friends, and Neighbors have a right to know what type of business you run. It's cruddy businesses and rude owners like you that give "local" a bad name. There are TONS of LOCAL greenhouses around here - give your business to one that doesn't resort to mob tactics and insults, and actually cares about its customers! In response to the post from the Urban Garden: I wrote an honest review of my experience with the Urban Garden - discussing the quality of the plants and the customer solutions they (failed) to provide, based against my experience with other greenhouses. But you decided to make it personal, and tried to insult my upbringing and people not native to Colorado. Although you don't deserve a response, I will give you one, because a 57 year old who still behaves like a child might be able to learn something before trying to silence other people's opinions, which are just as valid as their own. I am a COLORADO LOCAL, born and raised in Boulder County and proud of it! I grew up around my grandparents farm, not that anyone's limited "houseplant" experience or personal migratory patterns should disqualify you from receiving quality plants. Finally, the reason why I was so upset, was because I am an avid supporter of local businesses. Sorry to disappoint someone who clearly would love to label people as "Home Depot" (don't you think you should be better than that at your age? Welcome to 2019 - just a tip, looking down on people for being different or making different choices than you is not cool). I have bought three house plants from this expensive cute shop, and every one has died. I followed directions on their website and even asked their staff for help when I could see bad signs. One employee was quite patronizing and he said I shouldn't have tried two locations with a plant. He acted very superior - not helpful. They won't take the $40 house plants back. My $10 ones from McGuckins and Home Depot are doing fine, so I won't be going back to Urban Gardens. read more

I was looking to buy a couple trees. They have some nice trees that can't be found at home Depot, though their selection is not nearly as broad as Tree Farm (whose is?) and their prices are higher too. But there was a 15% off trees sale one weekend, through Sunday. We IDed a tree to buy Saturday but got waylaid Sunday, so I came back Monday to explain and see if they might honor the sale if I bought it that day. Nope. I get that sales are sales and they end... it just felt like more of a major-bigbox-retail-margins approach than the local-small-business approach or manner I'd expected... Of course, trees are assets that appreciate as they grow (unlike most retail assets, which depreciate.). But at full retail, I'm not sure Urban Garden competes with Tree Farm for diversity or service, or with big-box stores for straight value on more common trees of modest starter sizes. read more

Horrible, horrible, horrible! I can't stress enough how horrible this customer experience was. We contacted Urban Garden in April of this year because we were eager to plant some evergreen trees in our backyard for a bit of privacy, and wanted to support a local business. We were offered a discounted rate for 4 trees, only one of which looked remotely questionable, and should have questioned things at that stage in the buying process. The team at Urban Garden came over and planted the trees in mid-May, advised us to water the trees 5-10 minutes per day (10 minutes being when it's a super hot day which we weren't having many of, so did not actually water for 10 minutes any of those days). We followed the lighter side of their watering instructions, and in early June, (3 WEEKS LATER) 2 of 4 trees had drastically dropped many of their needles. I called to get advice on what was going on (could it be that the trees had a disease, were they underwatered, overwatered?) I spoke to a woman at Urban Garden who advised me to "keep an eye on them, test the soil, and contact us in a few weeks" but it was likely that "they were either under/overwatered (in both instances they display the same symptoms)." Keep in mind, this was ~3 weeks post-planting and the trees were ALREADY DYING. I took her advice, did not water the trees beyond that point, unless their soil was dry. As the weeks went on, the dying trees quickly died, and the two remaining trees were also rapidly deteriorating. At this point, I decided it would be beneficial to visit the owners and let them know (with photos) how the trees had been doing, what was going on, and hope that they had a solution for me. I requested to speak with the owner, who we met with initially and who sold us the trees. I shared with him photos of the trees when I initially called, and more recent photos of all the trees deteriorating. I explained that we followed the care/watering instructions that his team provided, only to be single-handedly blamed for the trees dying. "This is a clear case of overwatering," was all he kept repeating. I have a hard time believing that within 3 weeks we could have overwatered 4 evergreen trees if they weren't sick to begin with. He explained that he ended up swapping one of the trees (the initially questionable tree) with another that looked better and planted the healthier one in our yard. He also went on to say that they recently sold a tree from the same harvest as our trees, and that it was watered maybe 3 times since our trees were planted. There was no effort on his part to resolve the situation, besides constantly remind me of their warranty (50% of what you paid towards a new tree), which while it may be the industry or market standard, was laughable and incredibly offensive. And while their warranty may stand true, I'd think given the time table and how quickly the trees died, there would be an effort to remedy the situation. Beyond this point, I was upset and ended up leaving. Upon speaking with the owner further, he had the nerve to imply that because we had just moved into a new home (and made the comment he doesn't live in a new home) that it shouldn't be an issue that we have to replace trees. I will not be spending any more money here, will not be replacing those trees because I have no desire to support this business. read more

I deeply loved all the trees and shrubs at The Urban Garden. For the quality of what they have, I give them five *****. However, not everybody can afford their prices and so I give them four stars for accessibility to the average person in the population. The woman with long blonde hair, who works there, is lovely. The guy I talked to seemed a bit impervious to me as a person. I get the impression that he doesn't love human beings, who do not buy something on their first visit. He wasn't objectionable but He is not a guy who gives you warm fuzzies. I did not feel wanted but felt like I was just in the way. Customers should not have to work to try to accepted at a "store." I am strongly considering coming back and buying some of those overly-expensive trees, because of the quality of trees but I would be much more inclined especially if they go on sale. I asked him about sales and he seemed perturbed. I as a customer have the right to buy or not buy on the basis of price. Free enterprise! So, if you want excellent products and don't care about price, I think this is a fantastic place to go to, but the guy who works there won't love you or give you kudos. If you are struggling with money, you may want to budget to go there, or you can do what I did and find deals in many places, especially at the end of the season. read more

Locally grown! Does it get better than this? Its a garden center for the pure joy of selling plants! Not like Home Depot where they use the plants to draw you in and add onto your home improvement cart. This is a garden center because they love PLANTS and the selection proves that. You can find every kind of shrub, perennial and even indoor plants. The quality of plants is nothing like the Depot stores. This is where I build a beautiful garden - how about you!? read more

I've been going here every winter since before my kids were old enough to walk through and pick out their own tree. Now, it's the highlight of Christmas preparation to go choose a tree, grab some hot cocoa and a candy cane and stroll through to check out all the local handmade decorations! The young couple that own it are adorable and always greet us with a smile and our yearly tree guide to what fits our needs best! This year, I had the pleasure of meeting Mom, the original owner, and she was a delight to chat with as well! We love our Christmas experience with them!!! read more

Buyer beware!! Went to buy a Christmas tree the weekend after Thanksgiving last year. Wanted to support a local business. The over priced tree died two weeks later. Went to exchange the dead tree...they only had ONE tree left, a flocked white one. They would NOT give us our money back. Only offered us a wreath!!! We ended up going to Cottonwood farms and got a live tree at a discount after sharing our story about Urban Garden. Get your tree somewhere else. read more

We wanted to support our local store. Every spring/summer for 8 years we have purchased at least some of our plants from Urban Garden. This is not an exaggeration: every single plant we purchased from Urban Garden was dead in a few months. Other plants we bought elsewhere thrived. Gardening is a huge hobby for us, and we amended the soil, followed all watering and placement guidelines specific to the plant, and if they were from Urban Garden, they died no matter what. When we went to Urban Garden with our dead plants, they offered no customer service--only judgments and condescending anger. One secret of gardening is that you have to start with healthy, good plants. There are none at Urban Garden, and they will not offer customer service to back up their products. read more

After running numerous web searches for this place, STILL no phone number. Crazy. Do they REALLY expect their customers to drive all the way to Lafayette just to turn around and go home if they don't carry what they need? What a gem! I discovered this place when I stopped in on a whim to buy some plants for this year's garden. We were also on the market for trees, and luckily this is the place to go! Eric took as much time as I needed to walk around and answer all my questions. I didn't know there was so much to know about trees, he is obviously very knowledgeable and cares about the trees people are buying. We also looked at The Tree Farm to compare options/pricing/etc. and quickly realized they are the "fast food" of trees and Urban Garden is the "farm to table" place run by people you love. The crew who came out to do the planting was professional, courteous, and had an awesome attitude even after realizing they had to dismantle part of our fence to get the trees in. They took extra care to try to minimize damage to the lawn (and someone managed to succeed.) You never know when people come to your home how comfortable you'll feel and we have no hesitations recommending Urban Garden from start to finish. What a cool, family run business! Customer service is everything. Kate helped me find a houseplant that will survive in dark places (needed for the basement). She walked around with me and gave me several options. Yesterday, I was at a competitor in Boulder, beaufiful store, but no one helped me. There were several employees sitting behind a counter and none reached out. Instead they had their noses in their computers. They lost a customer. Today when I walked into the Urban Garden Kate greeted me immediately and she gained a new customer. I will return. read more

Just stopped in for some air plants. They had an awesome selection! You can tell they take great pride in each and every plant. They didn't have anything in abundance, but what they did have was taken care of like gold. Awesome cacti, fiddle figs, aloes, and even beautiful fall mums! Will definitely be back. read more

Fastastic selection of nursery items - perennials and annuals and beautiful pottery. Service is very friendly, engaging, knowledgeable and you can tell immediately that they really enjoy the business. The owners branched out this year to include specialty vegetable starter items, including Thai peppers, tomatoes, fruits and lots of herbs. We just went in here after attending our friends' BBQ across the street. We walked in right before 5, not thinking about the time - I couldn't find it on their mobile website (it just said "open seasonally") and Yelp says they close at 6pm. We walked in and were greeted, and wandered for a bit - they have a great selection of perennials, berries, and veggie starts. A little while later, one of the employees said that they were closing in 5 minutes. We started to move to the front to check out. Less than two minutes later, a different (female) employee walked by us and said brusquely, "guys, we closed 27 minutes ago. So, y'know, we gotta get out of here" and walked off. We were put off by her tone, but proceeded to buy our herbs with the other (male) employee, who was very nice. If, when we had walked in, someone had mentioned that they were closing soon, we would have hurried, or even just left. I understand the frustration of having customers present after close - and clearly we were oblivious to their actual closing time. But we were bothered by the passive-aggressive and rude way that she dealt with it. Three stars for the plant selection, but we will not return because of this experience. read more
