I don't know what some people's problem is. It is a retail store and these people are lighting professionals. If you want to go somewhere and wait for a long time and then still don't get to talk to someone who knows anything and buy cheap chinese knock off's then go ahead and go to Home Depot or Lowe's. But you are choosing to go to a lighting store. Waiting for people means they are busy helping someone just like you. That someone was patient enough to wait. I waited fifteen minutes once and about ten minutes the other times. I would wait 20-25 minutes before whining about it. Both individuals that I dealt (tall manager guy and shorter blonde) with knew immediately what I needed and had comments about the lighting itself and why I shouldn't choose certain lights that I had in mind for my kitchen remodel, which made perfect sense. If I had gone to Home Depot without anyone that has knowledge I would have installed lights that don't have the optimal output. I paid a little more but only a few bucks because they had their sale going on (which I think is always on, saw it there for a period of two months driving by). read more

One of the worst companies I have ever delt with. I order light fixtures for customers on a regular basis because I am a contractor, and Foothills Lighting is the worst place I have ever tried to order from. I placed an order for 4 fixtures, and I waited about 2 weeks before I followed up with them to see where the fixtures were, they said it would be another six weeks before I got them. I let my customer know that it would be another 6 weeks and they were not happy. Two months go by and I call and ask what day I should expect the fixtures, they tell me they will have to call the manufacturer to see where its at. A week goes by and I hear nothing, so I call again and they give me the same line. I called for two weeks straight everyday and Foothills said the manufacturer wouldnt answer their phones. They eventually just kept sending me to voice mail so I finally cancelled the order. I called another supplier, placed the order and 3 weeks later had the product at my door. Foothills Lighting doesnt care about their customers, they are just there to rip people off, while offering horrible customer service. I will never use them again. read more

Urban Lights has an excellent selection of lights in their showroom, which is very helpful if you're not a decorator and have difficulty imagining what a particular light will be like from looking at a picture. But the help we received from Eric Smith was absolutely indispensable. He talked with us about the look we wanted in our home, walked through the showroom with us twice so we could point out fixtures we liked, and then he sat with us and made notes about room sizes, our dining room table size, what other lighting was in each room, and more. Then, on our final pass-through he helped us with our final decisions on light fixtures and ceiling fans. Eric even remembered detail items like dimmer switches and special bulbs. We left feeling very pleased with our purchase, and confident (thanks to Eric's knowledgable help) that we had chosen the right fixtures in the correct sizes to look great in our new home. Ordered light fixture over 3 mos. ago and was told it was backordered for several weeks. Received no phone call(s) to inform me that fixture was not in and after I called them, was told it was backordered yet again. This cycle continued for 3 months with no light fixture, I'd call, they'd say it was backordered again, wait one month....etc. My last call to them I was told the fixture was on the ship and would be in their store within 6-10 days. When I called again 2 wks. later (no communication from THEM!), I was told the same story only it would be 1 month later. Here it is 3 mos. after I ordered the light fixture, and I've since cancelled the order. Because they charge you for your order at the time you place it, this means that they've had my $$ for the last 3 months. Now I just hope that they credit my charge card as promised, but I've seen how they promise things and don't follow through. There are lots of places online to order specialty lighting. As much as I believe in doing business with local businesses, I'm ordering my light fixtures online from now on. read more

If you want to talk with people that take the time and have the knowledge to really help you with you lighting, this is the place to come to. Such a great selection and the super large scale pieces they have in the store is helpful too. They really help me visualize the scale of things for my place. It was busy even though I came mid week on purpose to try to avoid the crowds, and I did have to wait about 20 minutes for one of the salespeople to get free, but they gave me their undivided attention and were full of great ideas to help me get the look I wanted and the light I needed. I discovered that if you don't want to wait for great help just call ahead and make an appointment! I didn't know you could do that, and it's a great benefit at this store. Can't do that at Home Depot, and Lamps Plus told me it had to be a whole house in order to make an appointment! What?! This place is full of lighting professionals, it isn't McDonald's, so yes, I expect they will take time and give proper attention to their clients and I have no problem with that. It's what you expect when you want to work with professionals, not just counter help. I worked with Gene, he was awesome, really listened, kept in excellent contact about the status of my order. When it came in with one bad socket out of 5 he handled it at the repair shop in house in 2 days. On a day when Gene was off I spoke with Susan. Also got really good answers and advice.Good luck with that type of service online. Bottom line, excellent service worth waiting for, or make an appointment ahead of time and don't wait, great inventory. read more

THINK TWICE before purchasing from this store. I bought 3 fans for just under a $1000 that were Minka Aire. Happy with Jarrod our sales rep who gave us a card for an electrician they recommend for the install. I have no problem installing fans, but two of them in our newly built house were 12 foot ceilings so I decided to let someone else do it rather than rent or buy a 10 foot ladder. All went well for the first 6 weeks until one of the fans stopped working. Called and got Veronica who was very nice who told me I need to call Minka to Troubleshoot the issue and then we would go from there. Minka said they needed to send me two parts to fix the issue which I got a week later as promised. I called Veronica back to see what we were supposed to do about getting it repaired and she said she needed to talk to her manager and she would call me the next day. A week later I called her back after not hearing anything. She remembered me but no apology for no return call. She said her manager told her to tell me that It would be Minka I would need to speak to because Urban Lights does not install fans they just recommend people to install. Minka says they manufacture fans and the warranty states they are not responsible for repairs just parts. So both companies pointing the finger. I called Veronica back and she said they was nothing they could do. I said "so I am basically screwed and have pay another $200 to the electrician" she said "yes I am sorry you are" I said "I guess I bought the fans from the wrong company. Take away is when shopping in Denver for a fan or light company go with one that installs or face this issue of the pointing fingers and a customer left with broken fan and two companies that will not step up and stand behind what they make and sell. read more

Recently, my bedroom ceiling fan stopped working. When I flipped the switch, all 3 bulbs popped and the fan stopped working as well. This did not cause a breaker to flip. Everyone I spoke with said the fan was fried. I started looking online for a replacement and couldn't find anything I liked. I really loved the fan I had. My last resort was Urban Lights. Luckily, I met Rhonda. She asked me to describe what had happened and felt certain that the problem was with the wall switch. When it was installed, a dimmer switch was used. Since the fixture had pull chains for both the lights and fan, the dimmer caused the fan to fail. Not only was I able to keep my fan; I saved a lot of money as well. I spent less than $6.00 for new bulbs and a $0.67 switch that I installed myself. Rhonda was awesome and diagnosed the problem immediately. She deserves kudos for being so knowledgeable and for not just trying to sell me another fan! read more

Despite the huge showroom, the selection of pendant lights was disappointing. We did end up purchasing some pendants (stocked) and recessed lighting (on order) and were told that we could pick up the whole order in about a week. Three weeks passed with no call from Urban lighting and my husband had to call to check. He was told it would be another week for our can lights to get in. Very disappointing. We had to call AGAIN to see if they were in and when I got everything home the pendant lights were not at all what I expected (they look really cool when turned on, but are yucky when turned off). Now I am told I have to pay a whopping 20% restocking fee to return this item to the vender, when I know darn well that they had these in stock to begin with. I will never return and will strongle advise everyone I know to shop online at any number of vendors with lower prices, no restocking fees and free shipping both ways. read more

I will never visit Urban Lights again. This is spoken with some regret, as my interaction with them started out so well and my last interaction with Matt Ellis was so gratifying. Debbie engaged with me during my first "wander around" and was quite expert in laying out solutions to my lighting needs that had not occurred to me. That was; however, the last time I was afforded either expert or competent interactions, except with Matt. I did order a light fixture. When it arrived, I saw that the light shades were not included. While I wondered why the shades would have shipped separately from the fixture, I concluded that such was the nature of this manufacturer's method of fulfilling an order. So, I took off from work to go into the store and pick up the shades (or so I thought that was all I had to do). Debbie apologized for the incomplete order and started to re-order the shades, but was shut down by a superior. He had - with apparently some sort of insight that was not completely insulting - deduced that I didn't have the Mensa-level skill necessary to inventory the contents of a box, because he asked, repeatedly, "Are you sure the shades weren't in the box?" Hmmm ... all I could think was "Yeah, the shades were in the box, but I had nothing better to do than take time off work, come here, and complain about not having an item that was in the box, because I didn't possess the low-functioning ability to see them, and I really wished to come here and be massively insulted." This man then went "in the back" and brought out an order for the same type of light fixture but with different shades, and showed me the shades, asking "You're sure you didn't have anything like this?" I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Not only was this man sure that I was too stupid to recognize a light shade when I saw one, he had to compound the insult by showing me a light shade and asking if I had seen something similar. Debbie, rather sheepishly, asked him to go elsewhere and ordered the shades for me. She assured me she would call me as soon as they arrived. After 4 weeks and no word from Debbie, I - again - took time off work to go to their store and find out what was going on. It was at this point that I encountered Matt Ellis. He is the single and only good thing about my interaction with Urban Lights. After hearing my story, Matt promised to determine what was going on and fix it. The next day, I received a voicemail from Matt that he had discovered that the shades had been on the shelf the entire time, just in a separate area. Matt had the shades delivered to my house the same day and profusely apologized for the mix-up. I wish that Matt could impart his work ethic on his colleagues. Specifically, I would wish he could impart to Debbie that she should have followed up on this order. Specifically, I would wish he could provide guidance to the man who's name I don't remember about how not to insult (repeatedly) customers; about how to shut his mouth rather than spewing highly insulting rhetoric at customers. Had the light fixture not already been installed before my first visit back to Urban Lights, I would have returned the light and walked away.
