Great cool hip place. The food is good the coffee is good. The process is bad! The ordering the pickup and the actual calling out your name for food and coffee is bad. They just put coffee on the bar and call your name out at a whisper. We got food before coffee cause the setup is not in an organized mess. Also the vibe with the eccentric artwork and pictures and historical buildings fixture is cool but not when you look at the dust. The dust in the place is gross and the bathrooms are dirty. Please dust the ceiling fan and metal tile roof. Clean the mirror on the back wall with a clean rag. Wash the windows in the whole place . Went here for the first time on a Saturday during the street fair. There was live music that day. The guy was so loud I couldn't even hear myself when ordering so we didn't stay inside. If I lived in town, this would be my coffee go to simply because the iced Agave Miel is the best coffee drink ever. The coffee was smooth and went down way too quick. The menu has several healthy options - not your box chain coffee shop with like 50g of sugar per drink. The coffee comes in a standard size. I did order an americano to add to my second visit drink because it was sweeter than the first even though I ordered the same Agave Miel. It was no big deal because it just meant I got to drink more coffee. Prices are reasonable. My third visit was during the week around 3:30ish and it was much more chill. The place wasn't as busy and no live music. The building is an old original historic building with tons of character and charm. If you are going to hang out, there is plenty of places to sit; the bar, booths, tables, even outdoor seating. It's a good spot to visit with friends, study, play board games, people watch, etc. The staff is minimal contact so they don't really interact with people other than taking your order from what I experienced and observed. Coming from Fargo, where we are spoiled with our awesome downtown coffee shops, Urban Stampede was right up my alley in all my expectations of a downtown shop - that includes the coffee itself and the vibe. There is plenty of parking in downtown Grand Forks, with much of the street parking appearing to be 2 hour. There is a city-owned parking ramp basically across the street from the coffee shop and I parked there for the entire day for only $8 (which is their day pass; even less if you are parking 4 hrs or less). read more

I went out of my way to get my coffee here on a recent trip to Grand Forks, based solely on the reviews. I was NOT disappointed. Located in a quaint area, near downtown... it sits on a corner with a little outside seating area. It is pretty spacious inside, and looks to get a lot of local/regular patrons. So, I walked in off the street to have some tea and, to my great surprise, there was Gandalf the Grey, servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the flame of Anor, performing what I believed to be a top-to-bottom performamce of The Shins' 2003 masterpiece: Chutes Too Narrow. I had thought I was a relatively healthy person coming in, but I'm thinking I should probably make a trip to Altru's ER and make sure I haven't suffered a stroke or a debilitating mental break--that's how unsure I am that any of this actually happened and that this isn't a fever dream. This is THE best coffeeshop coffee I've EVER had - and that's saying something! The service is friendly and quick and the atmosphere is beyond enjoyable with the historic feel of the space and the stylish decor. There are puzzles, games, and books on a back shelf for entertainment while you sip delicious coffee (free refills up to an hour!) or enjoy a scrumptious dessert item. One of my favorite aspects of this place is that it's right near the railroad tracks so you get to see and hear a train go by every once in a while (it's not loud). Holy Damn! If I was a religious man I would praise Jeebes for this coffee shop. After spending the first 33 years of my life in New Jersey, NYC, Boulder, and Portland (Oregon), I've been in Crookston Minnesota for the past two plus weeks. There's one coffee shop in town here, but it's filled with retarded people, bad books, and Folgers. Since there's nowhere else to hang out in the cesspool of racism, I decided to ride my bike 28 miles just for something resembling culture. I was not disappointed. The entire town of Crookston, I believe, has three bike racks, while just the surrounding quarter block near Urban Stampede has the same. I arrived at around 3:30 PM and it was busy enough to seem cool, but not so full that I felt awkward. The woman behind the counter was polite and friendly without being annoying, the coffee was cheap, dark, and came with a free refill, and I got a booth with my own personal lamp and four outlets. I hung out there for a couple hours without receiving the strange, crosseyed stares that I get in Crookston for being an outsider. I got a lot of work done (and by work I mean reading and writing) while being able to observe the interesting blend of people who came through the doors. Rain, sleet, hail, or snow I will be back at Urban Stampede as much as I possibly can before I finally manage to escape this strange section of the world. read more

The name alone made me want to visit as my surname is Urban. The other reviews helped seal my decision. Great location in downtown Grand Forks with plenty of street parking available. It's in an old building and has a very cool feel. Upon walking in there are so many cool things to look at from the ceiling, to the chandeliers, the artwork (which is for sale), wall murals, and an old safe towards the rear. It wasn't very crowded so there were plenty of choices in seating available. The employee that helped me was very nice and friendly. He made such a great caramel latte that I ended up getting two! Nice little quiet place to study and get regular coffee but ever since they hired new staff who don't know how to make drinks, stopped coming regularly. I tried to ordered an iced white chocolate latte and they had no idea what that was. They told me I had to order something on the menu. They just had seasonal, crap with gingerbread lattes. If they can't make something simple, they shouldn't be a barista. We ordered and sat right at the bar where we watched the lady pour old coffee in a cup with ice and skim milk. My iced chai was straight syrup and ice. No one was friendly towards us. There was only one girl working that day, so if there was a line sometimes it takes a bit to get a refill because they are kept behind the counter. But for $1.95 who can really complain? Cross-posting from another review website as I think places like this have such redeeming value in this age of corporatized, cold, overly- commercialized, dime-a-dozen, coffee houses: I'm stuck in Devils Lake, ND, for the next 14 months and my only real salvation is that Grand Forks, just 90 minutes to the east on US Hwy 2, has a place like the Urban Stampede. It's funky in all the right ways - old building adapted for this use, a good long bar with stools and plenty of booths and tables (where one can sit for hours on end, read, work the computer, watch the locals drift in and out and have a good time, etc.), and hours (open 'til 11 PM) that are right if you want to be out late and not be relegated to sitting in a bar watching the drunks get more so.
