My husband and I are new to the area and are on the lookout for Indian food. We found this place at the edge of Park Meadows Mall. The service is a bit slow and its a more seat yourself and then they come to you with menus. So don't awkwardly stand there forever. The ambiance is super bright, and pretty mellow and quiet. My husband and I can never decide what to get so we opted for Chefs Tasting menu. Its $35 per person and everyone at the table has to participate. The soup was okay. It had a nice spicy kick. The kale chatt was interesting and crispy. Honestly I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. Urban Cauliflower had a great flavor, kinda mushy though, but still balancer out. The tandoori chicken was tender and honestly wish it was bigger. The shrimp coconut curry was my least favorite. Just not a good combo for me. Lentils were hearty and had a cumin flavor. Goat and Lamb curry were very similar I could barely pull it apart. The butter chicken was our favorite. Garlic Nann you could eat on its own, Onion Nann always great but needed a dipper. Wow! What a hidden gem in the mall... phenomenal food. The dosa was massive, flavorful and came with a selection of tasty sides to dip it in. The beer came in an ice cold glass, something you rarely see anymore. The lunch sampler was $15 and came with a great selection of food. The coconut shrimp curry was flavorful & the shrimp were high quality. The only note is that I wish it was slightly less runny. Everything we had was packed with flavor and phenomenal. I would highly recommend bringing cash for this place for an additional discount. Service was fast, the place was clean, and everyone we talked to was kind. We arrived a few minutes after 11:30 on Sunday. Immediately opening the door, we were hit with very warm air, making it unpleasant. They even had a door open to the outside, but it did not seem to help in cooling. We were able to finally place our order twenty minutes later - settling on the Chicken Manchurian and Chicken Momos. The Chicken Manchuria arrived ten minutes later. It had a unique flavor and the heat was fantastic. Unfortunately, the Chicken Momos arrived thirty minutes later. The waitress was very soft spoken, making it a bit difficult to hear her. She did apologize for the delay and credited the bill, but the damage was done. The service was good - our waiter was nice but was the only wait staff that night so it took a while to get things ordered/get the check/etc. The naan was yummy as was the paneer (always). I'm seriously disappointed in my experience with both service and food this time. The lunch special seemed promising and it was not clearly conveyed that it's basically chefs choice. We were informed that it would be butter or chicken tika masala. Instead I received something else which I did not want nor like. We had a terrible time communicating and we felt ignored as a large table arrived and they were the focus. We wanted to order more but he ran away before we could even ask. We decided to try this restaurant as we were in inside the mall. This is located by the Crate & Barrel store. The food was pretty decent for Indian food, which we absolutely love. The dosa was nice and crisp and the masala was tasty. The Paner was average. The rice was standard as well as the naan. The service unfortunately was very minimal. It took a while to get our order in and they never checked on us during the meal. They were not busy. The end of the meal we were able to grab our bill and just leave. It's a good place to try if you like Indian food but not sure we will return. It has an sports restaurant style feel with a bar which was a bit odd. read more

Another fantastic meal here. I've really got to get here more often. A coworker and I met for lunch and enjoyed a lot of food. We split both the Urban Cauliflower and Chicken 65 appetizers, and they were both fantastic. We also split the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Butter Chicken. I liked the Tikka better and might look for something a little different from the Butter next time. We also split a huge order of garlic naan. So much food. We enjoyed the chef's special tonight. 4 appetizers, 5 different meal tastings, rice and Naan. Just spectacular flavors. They are so varied and colorful. I didn't get a before shot because we dug in and just enjoyed all the bursts of flavor and textures. I really enjoyed the Krispy kale, the soup and the other appetizers. The food here is usually good. The service here is always either bad or awkward. Previously, I've shown up to find out they lost their liquor license or that they're out of certain items. The servers cannot read the vibe of a table about when they are ready to order and how long to stand at the tables. Tonight, they took the tables order. Two curry style dishes, and my lamb chop dinner. Even though we ordered an appetizer, they didn't pace the two curry dishes and brought those out right away. I waited almost 10 minutes for my lamb chops before I asked. By the by, all the servers were huddled by the door when I asked them. About a minute later, someone approached the table to explain to me, condescendingly, that the lamb chops take 30 minutes. Cool, but the rule of restaurants is that all entrees should hit the table at about the same time. Don't serve the quick cooking food if you know another entree takes longer. Especially if we've ordered an appetizer and we didn't ask you to rush any food. My lamb chops showed up about 40 seconds later, so.... Also, the samosas were overly crisp but cold inside. So maybe the food isn't always that good? I've learned my lesson. I won't be back. read more

Came in on a Saturday and there wasn't a wait. We were welcomed quickly and given waters. There were daily specials that our server went through and told us to take our time. We ordered the special tandoori chicken wings and veg samosas to start with. Both came out with a sauce that very good. Both delicious. The wings were juicy! We also got garlic naan. I got the tandoori salmon as I'm on a pescatarian diet at the moment. It was flavored well and a good sized piece. I heard good things about this Indian restaurant so I've been meaning to check it out. It has a very prominent sign and it's just next to Crate& Barrel and the LL. Bean side of the Park Meadows Mall just to the left of the food court entrance. We got the Gobi 65 as an appetizer which had a nice crunchy outside and pretty good taste. Personally, I'm slightly partial to the more saucy versions of gobi Manchurian but it still had a great flavor. We also had the chicken tikka dosa which had a great flavor and came with four sauces including a peanut, a coconut and a tomato sauce. I would definitely get the dosa again. I didn't really get to try the garlic naan because my kids ate it all. But looked great Vijayawada Chicken Biriyani was probably my favorite just because I had a great flavor. A little spicy. The chicken tasted great and the sauce that came with it had a lot of flavor as well. In short, I'll be looking to try other items on the menu the next time I'm there. read more

Another nice meal at Urban Village Grill last night. They were very busy but managed to seat me at a high top table in the back. Originally they asked if I could wait 30 minutes for a table. However, they quickly pivoted and seated me within a minute. I loved the teamwork I experienced. One server took my order, another served me my drink (Diet Coke), another served my food (Goat Soup, Butter Chicken with rice and Onion Kulcha) and the one who took my order provided my bill which was paid at the table (hand held credit card payment device). My only regret was, I should've ordered a bowl of the Goat Soup rather than a cup of it. The soup was that good! Loved how flavorful and spiced it was. Butter Chicken was superb! Onion Kulcha was probably the best I've had. I would love to order this meal as takeout very soon. It was so good that I'm willing to drive 20 minutes for takeout. This is hands-down my favorite Indian restaurant in the metro Denver area. I will return again and again! One final note is to try and tip with cash. One of the servers requested it. Urban Village Grill used to be our go-to spot, but it's clear that Chef Charlie took the last morsel of quality with him when he left. The food now? Think middle school cafeteria meets 'wishful thinking.' As for the service, I'm convinced I could age a cheese wheel faster than the time it takes for a server to notice you. The staff seems to think that texting their friends is a more pressing matter than, say, clearing tables or taking orders. Shrimp Tandoori was dry. Goat Korma was rather bland but spicy. There's a strong 'DIY dining' vibe here--one where you could probably cook your own meal faster, if only they'd let you into the kitchen. Mediocre is being generous. I walked into the beautiful dining gem, and was promptly seated. My group ordered the dosa, mail kofta, palak paneer and butter chicken. This was definitely one of the BEST Indian restaurants I have ever eaten at. My favorites were the butter chicken and the palak paneer. I was very intrigued by the dosa which was accompanied by many different sauces and chutneys but my fellow diner wanted to devour that all be herself. Unfortunately, I was visiting friends and am not from this area, but I highly recommend that if you are in the vicinity you have got to try this establishment! They did have a lot a options, although just slightly more pricey than I was excepting. I was debating better two options, and the staff recommended Chef Charlie's Coconut Curry. The curry had a slight film on it. It was so rich and thick. I don't think the many small scallops helped. The next day I didn't feel well. Tons of seats inside and outside (there is a patio area). We've tried several dishes, and everything was absolutely delicious (had a nice spicy kick to it so be aware). The hubs and I were at Park Meadows picking up an online order and we were hungry so naturally, I opened up Yelp and found Urban Village. Of course, my fellow Yelpers couldn't be wrong so we went. It is located on the 2nd floor at the Nordstrom end of the mall and down the hall from Athleta. After perusing the menu, we couldn't decide what exactly we wanted because we were super hungry and everything sounded so delicious! Well, the last page had the option for a tasting menu! 4 appetizers, 4 entrees, and dessert for $49/person??!!! That is awesome! And let me tell you how awesome it was! The appetizers were all so great and plentiful that we were full before the entrees came out. The entree platter had little bowls of the 5 different entrees, garlic naan, and cucumber raita. By this time, we're both so full but HAD to taste everything. It got to the point that we had to stop ourselves because it was so delicious and we wanted to keep eating, but our bellies were BEYOND CAPACITY! Then, we were told there was dessert coming. Ok, this girl never forgets about dessert and always makes sure there is room! The dessert was this amazing cardamom pistachio ice cream! Good food with poor service To be clear the staff are not rude, they are just inattentive. If you need something be prepared to flag someone down or wait. When we went the restaurant was about 1/4 full so I would hate to see it on a busy day. As for the food, it is traditional Indian cuisine served family style. The portions of a dish are easily enough to serve two people and everything we had was very good. The dishes had a reasonable degree of spice but did not creep into uncomfortable at all. The cost is very reasonable for the amount of food you are served as well. If you want to get in and out in 39 minutes I would not chose this place, but if you've got an hour to kill then this is a great option read more

I have been coming to the Urban Village Grill for many years and have always really enjoyed it. The Kale Chat Salad was always a standout and even though the food was never as spicy as requested, you could tell how high quality everything was. So despite the impossibly slow service, we kept coming back. That stops now. Apparently their chef left and that explains everything. The service has gone from to slow to non existent. The food is a pale initiation of what it once was. The kale salad is probably a similar recipe but with none of the technique that made it a layered rich masterpiece. The chicken tikka masala is in a tomato vinegar sauce with no discernible cream sauce. The butter chicken sauce is a weird greenish yellow. We will not come back. There are much better Indian restaurants in Denver. read more

This review is long overdue. My bad. I am Charles Manis' biggest fan. He has succeeded in giving indian food a new life. He injected his own twist in the regular Indian fare and its delicious! Although he left the most basic dishes unchanged but finger lickin' good! But his award-winning Kale salad is something short of a miracle. How did he get those individual stubborn kale to come out so crispy? The cauliflower is also My fave. I've tried his other dishes and they're equally amazing. The dessert. Now this man can cook and bake! Try one of his desserts. They're sinful cos they're rich and darn good looking. There's a popsicle that's super creamy. Ask for that!
