I love this yoga studio. Lots of natural day light from a wall of windows and 2 walls with mirrors, so I can correct my form.

Teachers are friendly, knowledgable and patient. Great atmosphere. Private lot. Go at night during candle light flow and melt your stress away. read more

Let's just say I'm not an experienced yogi; however it doesn't matter at Urban Yoga. The instructors are awesome and they welcome any level of experience. I have only attended the candlelight class, but it's perfect after a long work day. I love the class and feel immediately calm and amazing. I love the guitarists too. Cool yoga spot in the middle of downtown Phoenix with a good variety of classes and good class times. My one complaint is that I went for the first time a few weeks back and the staff was not particularly helpful. I just felt like they were rushed and not interested in helping explain everything. I will probably go back because the class itself was great, I just hope to have a better experience next time. read more

Urban is a great studio! Classes are always available so it's easy to get a yoga class around your busy schedule.

As an obese woman, I was very hesitant to try yoga. But I had begun to lose weight and was walking every day over my lunch and passed Urban Yoga every day. Every time I passed I thought that would be such a good thing for me to do for toning and self-confidence. One day, I finally had the courage to go in and ask if they thought it was appropriate for a woman my size to do yoga. The answer was a resounding yes. Each instructor at every class helped me to do the poses correctly so as to get the most benefit and not to hurt myself. I never felt like I didn't belong in the class. I received so much encouragement and genuine friendliness from the staff. I moved back to Omaha otherwise I would still be going there. Miss you guys! :) read more

my favorite yoga studio in phoenix hands down...a huge variety of classes, beautiful space and amazing teachers! my favorite teacher there is Danielle Godfrey...her positive energy fills the room and she pushes you farther than you thought you could go but only as far as your body is capable. she has enhanced my practice so much and is such a bright light. she truly loves her students and her sense of humor keeps the class smiling. i'd give her 10 stars if i could. read more

Let me preface with by saying, Emily Stooks (Horning) is an incredible teacher and I thoroughly enjoyed her class and positive energy. She deserves 5 stars. I had high hopes for Urban Yoga, which was close to the friend's house I was staying with for the holiday. I went for the new student special since I was in town for 10 days. I made it to 5 classes. Overall the instructors were pretty warm and welcoming. The reason for the 1 out of 5 stars is because of the awful business practices that do not align with the philosophy they teach. When I purchased the new student special, I told the sales associate I was visiting from Portland and was not able to bring my mat. Most studios I've encountered during my many years of a regular practice do not charge for mat use but Urban Yoga does. I requested an exception be made since I was traveling (and they were very cheap, low-end mats that were being rented at $2/class). The sales associate told me flat out no. I asked her to talk to a manager or someone to see if she could get permission. She suggested I go purchase a cheap mat locally. I was taken back and asked her opinion about what I should do with this mat when I leave again. Her response was to give it away or throw it away. After my initial shock, I asked one last time if she could ask if a manager would make an exception which she agreed to look into. After class I again was told no. At that point I wished I hadn't purchased the new student package. I ended up finding a friend of a friend that let me borrow a mat for the week. What a terrible experience. With one exception, during every class the studio was very chilly making it difficult to initially warm up the body properly. Additionally every single class I went to at that studio let out no sooner than 5 minutes late and sometimes up to 15 minutes late. Although I was on vacation, this is incredibly inconsiderate of people's time and schedules. I find it quite curious that Urban Yoga pretty consistently gets poor reviews from out-of-towners visiting Phoenix. I will not be returning to this studio over my Christmas break in Phoenix. read more

The floor was so dirty. I could feel the dirt on my hands and feet.The classes are obviously too close together because they don't clean the floors between classes. The yoga mats they sell smell toxic, like a rubber manufacturing facility. They charge $125 for the large mat. Yikes! If they are going to charge that much they should air them out first. This is a beautiful new yoga studio right in the downtown Phoenix area. I took my first class there last night after finding their website on the net. This place is just what I have been looking for. I have been practicing at another studio that is now (due to a recent move) farther from my home. I have tried lots of different studios in the last 9 months with the purpose of finding a place to practice that is closer to home. I think this is it!..The energy of the place is very inviting. The staff is super-friendly......and the class last night was just what I needed. They have the cutest stuff in the boutique (I am obsessed with yoga tshirts).....It is a green business, so most of the items in the boutique are earth-friendly as well. The prices can't be beat. Love! Urban Yoga is an excellent find here in Central Phoenix. I used to drive all the way to Scottsdale and Paradise Valley for my yoga classes. I loved the studio and teachers but was never thrilled about the drive. When my favorite yogini left the state of AZ, I was left to find a new place to train my mind, body , and spirit. I tried two other studios in close proximity to where I live. I never felt the comfort, challenge, or connection I had before. I found Urban Yoga and it is exactly what I am looking for. I looked at the studios website URBANYOGAPHX.COM before going over for a class. It has detailed descriptions of all of the classes and teachers.It tells you all about the studio and what it has to offer. As soon as I walked in to Urban Yoga, I felt comfortable. I was greeted by a friendly girl at the front desk. She was very engaging and showed me around the studio before the start of class. The over all vibe at the studio just feels comfortable. Its esthetically pleasing and kept clean. The class was excellent. Lindsey was the teacher and she had a great energy and knowledge of yoga. I like that the class is one hour. It is just the right amount of time. I also had a class with Megan and it was very challenging. I loved it. I enjoy the variety of teachers and styles that Urban Yoga offers. I was stranded in Phoenix for several days due to Hurricane Sandy and I thought to myself, "Well, I might as well do a bunch of yoga." So that's what I did. The first class I took made me far less stressed about being stranded. The teacher was kind and also highly talented. After class, I asked to fill my water bottle and the front desk staff person gave me a bottle for free. These two instances show how much of a community that has obviously been built at Urban Yoga. It is clear these people really care and also live the yoga sutras on and off the map. Aside from the mushy stuff, this is an excellent studio. I took three classes from three different teachers and was impressed by all three. I have been doing yoga for 20 years now and am fairly picky but in every possible way, Urban Yoga was just wonderful. read more

This studio is great. I love the location, which is very convenient for me. There's a great variety of classes and teachers and the schedule is good for almost anyone with classes all day, every day. I have been a yoga practitioner for close to 10 years and am more into a more spiritual (unity with the universe) kind of practice, which is very difficult to find in Phoenix. Urban Yoga offers many classes where I find this need is met, specially with Danielle Godfrey and her Ashtanga class, it made me realize a passion for a continued Ashtanga practice. I've been to class with probably half of the teachers and it is always a rewarding experience. All teachers and staff make you feel part of a community, and this is unusual for a studio this size and with these many teachers. I also booked a massage with Wendy last week and it was wonderful, it was a couples' massage class. I enjoyed the class and learned a lot, my boyfriend was very happy with Wendy's skills; she was very personable, friendly and helpful. I love everything about this studio and highly recommend it. read more

I took three classes at Urban Yoga over the past few days and I am pleased to say that this is one of the best studios I've been to in a long time. I've been practicing for 15 years and am an instructor myself. The instructors here are outstanding. The space is great, but any charm the space lacks, the teachers make up for. Although, I'd have to say that the space is in fact, quite charming-decorated with beautiful artwork, and locally made crafts for sale. There's a shower to use, mats and towels for rent as well as drinks! This review is specifically for Nancy Ferraro who led the yin class. She's incredibly skilled, knowledgeable and present. I am a yin lover, and I've practiced yin with many different teachers. Nancy was by far the best. She played singing bowls and led the practice with such grace and skill. I wish she'd move back to California so I could take her classes daily! It was such a nourishing practice; I highly recommend practicing with her. I also took a class with Tara and Brady, who were both phenomenal. Once again, incredibly skilled, present instructors. Yin just happens to be my preferred practice :) As for price, I took advantage of the $25 intro special for new students which was a deal! read more

I am dropping in for a couple weeks of classes & love this place; clean, large studio, women's dressing room has free lockers with keys to lock your purse up while you're in class, free parking in structure next to building, nice retail space w/ funky tee shirts and all kinds of yoga stuff, pleasant & helpful staff. I go mainly to Julie & Ryan's noontime Vinyasa classes, but there are many other classes to try. Highly recommended! read more

In Phoenix for work in late January, and took three classes at Urban Yoga. It was a very good studio - the room is light an airy and the staff at the front desk were very helpful. I was able to take advantage of a new student special, which made the overall cost per class very reasonable. Mats were $2 additional to rent, as were towels. The classes were a warm vinyasa flow and I found them to be appropriately vigorous, with suggested modifications to increase or decrease the difficulty of the pose. A couple notes - the drain in the shower was plugged so that was not pleasant while showering after a class, but I let them know so I am sure they fixed it. In addition, the sound system in the room I was in was fairly loud and echoed, so at times, it was difficult to hear the teacher. Overall, however, I would recommend the studio. read more

Went to the Urban Flow class, which seemed easier than described on their site (not as heated as I thought either), but was still a good class. The $2 mat rental was kind of weak, I guess it's just so weird to me when studios do that though. read more

I am pretty new to yoga. Only did YouTube yoga videos once in a while. I had always wondered why anyone would go to a studio instead of staying in the privacy of their own home. Then a crazy friend invited me to try out Urban Yoga. I tried two evening Ashtanga classes (Cheryl's and Anusha's). They were amazing! Both instructors were super inviting and encouraging, and they allowed me to modify as much as I wanted in order to feel comfortable (as I had never even heard of Ashtanga before). However I needed morning classes. Then I met Julie Glasgow and started attending her Sunrise Flow class at 6 am on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It's been a few months, and I always look forward to getting up early those mornings. The class is full of cool challenges, warm and relaxing music, a great pace, and (what I need): freedom to modify. Everyday is different, but the flow always feels very natural. Julie is a calming presence, and a great instructor. She focuses on perfecting hip position and correct body alignment, which makes the movements make so much more sense. And this is a very thorough workout! You just lose track of time, enjoying the moment. And then afterwards, when you walk outside, the sun is up and you feel so ready for the day. I highly recommend! Parking is easy. The atmosphere is awesome. The people are people. The drinking fountain is the best anywhere. There is tea. read more

I was really excited to visit this yoga studio as I've heard good things from friends who tried it out. So, I purchased a coupon for $10 for 10 days of unlimited yoga. The coupon expired (I received no notice from the studio about the expiration date). I called and emailed the studio to see if they'd still honor the coupon. They said no. In fact, they suggested I give them more money for more classes. I was very disappointed. This studio is all about the bottom line. They would rather pocket $10 then honor a coupon. There are better yoga studios in the valley. read more

I went to check out this studio based on the great reviews. Unfortunately, the only good things I can say about it are the appearance of the studio, the location, the reasonable prices, and the cute boutique. However, this is not why I practice yoga. To be fair, I only went to several classes but was disappointed. I did not care for the instructors. The classes seemed focused on exercise and not much about other aspects of yoga beyond the physical. They offer classes at convenient times during the week with limited classes on weekends. There isn't much variation in the classes. There is vinyasa, yin, and a core workout. If vinyasa is not part of your practice, this studio is definitely not for you. Some of the classes were unconventional, which might be for some, but I prefer the tried and true. I can see how others like this studio, it is just not what I am looking for. I have since found another studio and am much happier there. read more
