UPDATE: I'm now four months out from my appointments, and my five-star review stands. During my first appointment, Ashley used the hair stroke method (creates the illusion of individual hairs) on most of my brows, and the powder fill method (solid color) on the ends of my brows. Unfortunately, because I have large pores and oily skin, the color didn't take that well and my skin didn't hang on to the beautiful single-hair definition. Over the weeks in between my two appointments the color and definition faded as the skin shedded. I knew from doing research online ahead of time that this was likely to happen; oily skin and large pores will not retain the fine strokes as well as other skin types. You must go into your microblading appointment with the understanding that because not one skin type is the same, everyone will have different ink retention. Poor ink retention is caused by skin type or poor adherence to aftercare. Based on this, Ashley used only powder fill for my touch up. She also suggested going with ink one shade darker than my initial appointment. Powder fill is absolutely the way to go for oily skin. The ink barely faded and the shape is great. After my touch up appointment I went out on a limb and deviated from the standard care instructions that I had followed after my first session. Instead of using barrier cream and dry healing, I washed my whole face as usual with my normal mild cleanser starting the day of my appointment. I believe this may have contributed to why the powder fill ink retention was so successful; I never had oil hanging out on my brow area pushing the ink out of my skin. This was a risk I took that could have gone sideways, but thankfully it worked out. Please don't follow my example because it may not work for you. ------------------------------------------------ Trust your brows with Ashley. I had consultations with other microblading technicians in the Albany area and I chose Urbane over all of them by a long shot. I had high expectations and Ashley exceeded all of them. I went to her with very, very sparse brows, and I left with natural looking brows that suit my facial features and bone structure. The work that Ashley did is indistinguishable from my real hair; her work is that good. Do research online about what to expect during and after microblading. Go to your appointment with photographs of your desired shape and color, and do trust Ashley's feedback and suggestions about shape and color. She has a very good eye. Follow the aftercare instructions perfectly. read more

Got my eyebrows done (eyebrow lamination) and lashes done (lash lift). Such a poor job done on my eyebrows. I was burned all around my brows and the esthetician took off so much hair from my brows that all my effort to grow them out was thrown in the garbage. My eye lash lift was supposed to last 5-8 weeks and lasted at most 4 weeks. I went into the salon confident about how I looked and left feeling so embarrassed. My eyebrows were not at all even and it just didn't look nice at all. I waited to post this review in order to give my lashes a chance to at least make up for the more than $350 I spent at this location, but even my lashes didn't last the advertised time. I was left with an infected abscess on my lip, permanent discoloration and numbness. They refused to refund me for the botched procedure and medical bills. The owner (i assume) gives medication without prescriptions and gives false diagnoses she also suggested to use the leftover filler that was already in the syringe for the next time. To make a very long and frustrating story short Ashley is extremely shady and lies about what products she uses on her clients. Not to mention she charges an exorbitant amount for her fake products! She's extremely unprofessional and does nothing but bitch about how terrible her employees are and how frustrating it is to operate her business. Makes for a very unrelaxing experience to say the least. Do not trust that she is using actual "dysport". After multiple visits and lots of money later she claimed I was "immune" to the product yet somehow magically I went to another local injector who uses the same product and it worked perfectly! I was told to be 15 mins or so early. When I got there the doors where closed and i called twice Ashley said she was running late. She started my lash lift right away another person came in shortly after for a apt she was taking to the chair next to me. Ashely was working on both at the same witch is why I'm not giving a 5 star as she said this has to sit 10 mins and then 5 mins i waited much much longer than the time and I became very anxious after being there. She also stated it takes 45 mins o was there for a hour and a half. Over all my lashes look good but my time was not appreciated from start to finish. read more

I picked Urbane Brows because of the Yelp reviews, and I liked her work on Instagram. Ashley is the owner and sole proprietor. She is friendly and on time. I had some ideas about shapes, but the she sat me down and started right away on shaping the brows; very similar to all the other brows she's done on Instagram. When she was done I liked the brows for the most part. There were imperfections: strokes that were missing, an off color that didn't match, a little unevenness. But there was another person waiting in the shop, Ashley warned against getting too hung up on perfection because I had to come back for a touch up in 4-6 weeks anyway. I thought I'd let the brows heal and address whatever gaps and color matching issues there were when I came back. (By the way, many microblade artists include the touch up in the upfront cost. But Ashley does *not* include the touch up; it is a separate charge.) I left, followed the after care instructions and returned 4 weeks later for the retouch. After healing, the brows were not even and were much worse. One was lighter than the other, the color didn't blend well, and one arch was clearly higher than the other. I asked Ashley to match the (albeit sparse) eyebrow hair, fill in where there were clear stroke gaps, and to even out the brows so they would match shape. Unfortunately, that was not the result. Ashley was very distracted and rushed the day I came in for the touch up. She was really upset about a previous client coming into the shop and demanding a refund because she was unhappy with her results. Ashley spent the hour appointment telling me about how the client was leaving bad reviews and that she was coming by the shop and she had to call the police. The health department came and told her to hold off on microblading until she got licensed. I should have left, despite how awkward that would be, I should have. But I stayed, and the first thing she asked me to do when I came in was to write a good review for her to counter the bad reviews this other client was leaving. I wish I could leave a good review but I'm very disappointed with the end result. Oddly, I left the shop with wonderful looking brows. But after following the after care instructions for the retouch and waiting patiently through the touch-up healing process, they remained very light, uneven, and super blurry. I am really disappointed. I spent $750 on microblading but I still have to fill in and even out each morning. I wrote to her on Facebook messenger (hard to find an email) showing her the pictures of my brows fully healed. I asked if she would consider touching them up / evening them without charge. She viewed the message but did not respond. I waited a week. No response. After that, I reached out to a microblading artist in Westchester who teaches courses in microblading. I asked if she would consider retouching a client she didn't initially work on. I explained my situation and sent her pictures. This was her response: "Unfortunately I won't be able to work on your eyebrows. The pigment is very saturated to do more microblading and it may have been done too deep and the brows arch is too high. (See the photo attached). My recommendation to fix it now is removal. I am so sorry about your experience. You should ask for a refund, this is not right and unfortunately it damages the reputation of other artists that are trained." I can not go forward to fix this situation for at least the next six months. And once I can go ahead, it will be another $600 to start all over! I did finally hear from Ashley after posting this review. She left a VM and asked how to make it right and apologized for not responding. To make things right, I need a refund. I am no longer confident that Ashley can fix this and in fact I'm concerned she might do more damage. I need the refund too to cover the cost to correct this microblading job. (I have not heard from her since asking for a refund to cover corrective costs.) What I learned: Just because a microblading pro is the most expensive, doesn't make them the most qualified. I will never go to someone with less than a year of experience or to someone who has not been trained in this art and supervised a number of hours by a credentialed teacher. And I learned how important it is to ask for not just shop shots they take right after microblading but pictures of HEALED results 10-12 weeks out. As the instructor explained to me, that's the only way to see if the microblading artist is able to apply professional techniques in depth and stroke application. read more

Ashley is so friendly and welcoming! I initially visited Urbane off of a recommendation from a friend, having never had my brows waxed ever in my life previously. I decided to check this place out for a much needed pampering. After arriving at the shop which is so quaintly located down a cobblestone pathway that sits snug between Broadway and N.Pearl St, I was greeted by Ashley's positively radiant smile. She made sure I was comfortable and had a refreshment while I waited for her to finish up with the client before me. During our session she made sure I was aware of everything she was doing and explained her process behind it. She made sure the final shape she sculpted out for me would be one that I liked before we sat down to wax. The actual waxing was amazing! Ashley is so gentle and considerate. She continued to chat while I was being waxed which helped me relax being that I was new to the experience. I walked away with brows I couldn't have been happier with! I just returned for my 4-6 week touch-up with Ashley and she remembered everything we had chat about in our first meeting and even asked me about things I forgot we discussed! I recently took a microblading training course with Ashley and I can not say enough good things about her as a person, her business, and her class! She was easy going, yet professional, thoughtful and informative. I was interested in other areas of cosmetic tattoo and she arranged an extra day for me to get exposed to everything I wanted to learn about. I visited Urbane after hearing rave reviews from one of my colleagues. The store is near my office, so it is super convenient for me to walk over. The place itself is impeccably decorated and relaxing. Her tables are heated and so cozy! I had my brows shaped, waxed and tinted. It's a bit more expensive, but Ashley is really thorough and walks you through each step. She basically makes a blueprint of your brows and sketches out the shape they should be. Before I found Ashley at Urbane, I was convinced I was going to have to make the trek down to NYC to get my eyebrows microbladed. The options for this procedure around the Capital Region were just underwhelming. But then I saw Ashley's work on Instagram and I knew I had to check her out. I initially booked a shape and wax so that I could meet Ashley and discuss the microblading procedure. She is so upbeat and easy to talk to and answered every single one of my questions. Her studio is lovely and clean. I immediately booked my microblading appointment for about a month out. I do recommend booking a wax and shape as a kind of consultation if you're considering microblading. It a perfect time to ask questions and for Ashley to assess your current situation and make recommendations. So, this review comes a day after my initial microblading appointment and I couldn't have been more impressed with the whole experience. I came in with a rough idea of the shape I wanted with photos I'd bookmarked on Instagram. I also came in with my eyebrows filled in the way I usually wear them, so that Ashley could get an idea of my style. After I took my makeup off, she got to work penciling in the shape. We went back and forth a bit before we settled on something I was comfortable with. Ashley won't move forward until she knows you're happy with the size and shape. It was really great that she was so willing to listen to me and was completely non-judgmental. I have definitely worked with people in the beauty industry before who have made me feel pushed into things I wasn't 100% comfortable with, and this experience was the polar opposite. The procedure itself was only slightly uncomfortable and took maybe an hour. Ashley uses a good numbing cream and explains what she is doing the entire time. The beds are also heated, which made it quite relaxing! When she was finished, I was happily surprised by the result. It was natural looking and Ashley erred on the side of conservative, explaining that we could go bolder or thicker at my follow up appointment if I decided to. Just left Urbane Brows and Beauty and couldn't wait to get home to write a review. I booked and had the the Yumi Lash Lift. This is my second time getting the lash lift as I had previously gotten them lifted at Urbane about a year and half ago (February of 2018). I can honestly say my lashes have never been the same since and I mean this in every good way possible. These are the lashes every girl wants. I know the description mentions that it lasts for 8-12 weeks but in my opinion my lashes have never been stronger or more lush as well as the length and holding of curl. Ashley Austin is a master at her craft. She is professional, precise, and classy. On a lighter note, she is a wonderful conversationalist, sweet as pie, and easy to talk to. Recently had my initial microblading appointment with Ashley and I am obsessed!! The whole process was so easy and she made me feel comfortable the entire visit. I showed up with my normal horribly filled in eyebrows (I am blonde with thin eyebrows and very inpatient with makeup) and left with natural looking perfect eyebrows! Ashley was great about explaining the process and took the time to make sure I was getting the exact shape and color I wanted. She also did the first appointment a little more conservatively. I am excited for my touch up appointment where I can go a little darker with the color and add thickness if I decide that is what I want. As she said- you will like your eyebrows after the initial visit but you will LOVE them after the touch up :) I already love them so I can't wait to see them after the touch up. I could not recommend Ashely more. It is the best feeling ever knowing I can wake up tomorrow and leave the house without worrying about filling in my eyebrows and they look way better than I could ever achieve myself! read more
