If you want to start working out, do so by running far far away from this gym!
I'm no gym rat, so I can't speak so much to the actual machines, layout, booty firming and/or getting fit aspects of this location, but I am very well versed when it comes to customer service and this is where I can confirm I have detailed experience and knowledge that they are greatly lacking. I brought my Yelp page back to life just to get this out!
My family and I signed up for this gym a couple of years back and I did go a few times and got some steps in on the treadmill and did a couple classes. All fine, but not for me. The world is my elliptical, so I'll stick to hiking, which is a personal preference.
A year or so ago, I decided we weren't getting the value for our dollar, so I went in and canceled our membership. Or so I thought. The woman at the desk tried to resell me all sorts of different plans and options, offered me some free classes and time with instructors, all of which I declined and thought at the end, I'd done what I went in for... canceled the membership. I literally signed, sealed and delivered what I thought was me canceling.
Then Covid hit and the world blew up in ways that took my attention completely elsewhere for a while, so I didn't notice I was still being charged a small amount for membership at this gym! This location had even closed for a while due to the pandemic I'm learning now. To my surprise, I recently got an email from them stating that my payment was unable to go through, to please provide a new form of payment. The card I'd used had expired. I was like... erm, clearly there's some simple confusion and they just have their records wrong. We'd all just been through a lot, so I'm more forthcoming with the grace I give these days.
I emailed customer support letting them no I'd canceled long ago and called the location on Parkway Avenue reminding them of this also. In an effort to try to keep this review short, I won't go through the details covering the contact I'd made and how I left the phone conversation feeling like I'd just walked out of a Twighlight Zone episode. In a nutshell, I'll sum it up as we, as the customer's of this establishment, are required to ensure the staff do their job accurately and meet basic work compliance expectations because management won't and everyone will hold only you, the customer, accountable for their shortcomings. Since I hadn't looked for and confirmed I had received an email with my cancelation, it was my fault that it hadn't gone through. I'm not aware of anywhere that it's written we're supposed to ensure Urge employees do their job correctly and that they are providing accurate information when speaking with them.
I was informed at this point that I had to send in a certified letter with my request to cancel this membership and pay fees although they'd already charged me monthly in error for over a year. I wrote my letter and included details that I will not be paying any extra and actually, if they'd like to discuss finances, we can begin with how they owe me a refund, and sent on 1/22/2022. I also then confirmed I received my email from them that my cancelation was received and complete. Done, right?! Oh no no...
This morning, 2/15/2022, I woke up and checked my email and to my surprise again I had an email with an attachment from Urge Fitness, on their letterhead, welcoming me back to the "family" because I'd revoked my request to cancel my membership. Signed by... wait for it... WAAAAAIIITTTT for it... THEM! They signed their initials on my signature line as the buyer, basically authorizing them to continue to try to steal cash from my bank account. I should add here that they'd also had my husband's card information when we originally did business with them a few years ago and since they couldn't get mine to work, they went back to his file and used his. Actual theft. I've already contacted my bank, disputed that charge and told them we do not authorize any charges from this company, so they'll all be declined.
If you're still with me reading this, you'll get your heart rate up with this gym for sure, but it won't be in a good way! Blood pressure is through the roof! read more
