Fantastic place to bring kids up to 5 years old on a rainy day in McMinnville…read more We're visiting from out of town and we aren't used to all this rainy Oregon weather. So we tried to go to the other indoor playground, but they were closed. We were loitering in the parking lot and I asked a mom if there was any other place we could go. She suggested the Community Center and she took off super quick; I think she suspicioned that I was hitting on her. Anyway, we came here to find a friendly statue of Abraham Lincoln on a welcoming bench. Then we went inside to find friendly customer service at the front desk. It seems they have a lot of other facilities in the building, but we were there just for the toddlers playroom. It's for kids up to 5 years old. They welcomed us for our one-year-old and also let in our 6-year-old as long as she respected the other kids and the toys. It's a small fee for all-day use, with come-and-go privileges. They have a bunch of different kinds of toys that are best suited for kids 5 years or less. They have cooking sets, baby sets, toy cars and ride-in cars, balls, play mats, a couple small play structures, and small book shelf. There is a diaper changing table with wipes, bags for dirty diapers, and trash cans. One room has a tiled floor where people can eat snacks. The other, connected room is carpeted with no food allowed. Extra wipes are there for parents to clean toys after use. It seemed like the other clientele were regulars. They were nice enough and outgoing at times. I highly recommend this place on rainy days for locals and visitors alike. I'm sure there are bathrooms, but we didn't check them out. Limited off-street parking on all sides of the building, plus limited free parking on the street. If you choose to give a thumbs-up or not, I hope you found my review helpful!

I highly recommend their Citizen's Police Academy and CERT classes open to the public (with registration). The facility itself is very impressive with all-electronic-keyed doors throughout. It also houses YCOM the area's 911 dispatch service. The chief, officers and staff are always at lots of community events and the dedication of their volunteers rivals that of any non-profit in town.

Let's see, where's the Yelp for Monmouth, home of Western Oregon University?…read more Gosh, given I'm a bored retiree, a combined legal/intelligence and military professional, with my three fancy degrees, what could I say about the peeps on Jackson street. First and foremost, I hope and pray to the peacock angel Lucifer (having a temporal personage in Dick Cheney) that we never get a new police station in Monmouth. Great for Highway 99, delightful to have a secure area to seize and hold evidence (cars , vans, even mobile homes like the one(s) where I currently reside in Yolk County. And I can't say I recall meeting any of them lately, and being a collegiate drug dealer in the Eugene Corvallis corridor, it's best to keep up appearances in one group of peeps, and overall send conflicting signals. Don't know anything about the VIlle, and aside from the times Monmouth local peeps bogarted my stash and snatch locally I still has Benevolent Tenancies Towards the fuzz. At the same time, I'm tired of the man keepin' me down! I'm H James Tharp, local Monmouth/Independence oddball sports personality, and I approve of this Yelp review. And you can put that in your pipe and smoke it , by golly.

I will write more as my time allows but again, the jailers were fine, the nurse was not very personable, if you need medication for blood pressure and I ALWAYS carry my script with especially for jail! It takes days to get the meds then at what? $8.00 per pill? Come on! This facility as far as jails are concerned is rather dirty, I know, it's jail but this is my job, these jails do not have to be disease ridden. In DC for example, everything is stainless steel, you have no pillow, just your own personal shoes which are cleaner, YES! they are probably cleaner than a jail house pillow and/or blanket. They're saving the taxpayers money in a number of ways. The Sheriff was upfront and very transparent about how the office is run. The officers I met were very professional as well. I should note that I was recently pulled over for speeding. The officer asked me if I knew how fast I was going. I did and I told him. I was given a warning. Thank you for not giving me a ticket.
