And that she was - having just passed the driving test at an offsite location in Wilsonville, the daughter and I went to the nearest DMV to get her license. It turned out the Sherwood branch was a zoo, packed with people, a bit surprising for a Tuesday. Once we made our way to the Info booth, we learned that despite having her photo ID / permit, they still needed her birth certificate (again) and supporting documents. So we left empty handed and headed home. Once in Salem, we grabbed what we needed and headed to our local office. I was a bit nervous to see the lines, but was quickly relieved to see a mere fraction of the people in the last branch. She was quickly assigned a number, with only two people ahead, and just like that - there's a new independent teen driver sharing the roadway. Don't fret, if anything, she's overly cautious! Yes, obligatory photo snapped in front of the DMV sign with her temporary license, but no permission to share. I don't know whether to cry tears of joy or sadness now that she can come and go in her own car.

This is getting scary, i've been here enough times now that they are starting to know who i am. If you have to take a test, be there before 3:30 in order to ensure you get to take the test. if you're retaking the test go there a little before 4 and they'll let you cut in line. if you're going to do any other things other then driving test, go there right after 4 and the wait is a matter of minutes.

Using appointments is the way to go otherwise it could be an extreme wait. I came in and had an estimate of four hours for service and then I just made a quick appointment and got seen sooner. Unfortunately I was number 450 and they were at 396 so I was waiting over two hours to get called. Last year I helped work to Oregon getting a pollinators plate for the state which provides funds to the pollinators educational program at OHSU. I had my certificate to get my new plate (which is beautifully designed by a 16 year old Estacada student). When my number was called it was then fast and easy to get my new plates. The folks that work at this location all seem very friendly and knowledgeable. Ad it was there was a guy sitting fairly close to me. I got the impression he has sat down due to fatigue. One of the staff came over to update him. When the person trying to help was letting him know his wait time he kept interrupting her and barking at her. I was trying not to overhear but she was so kind even with his nature. I was impressed and relieved when he finally seemed to listen to her telling him she was sorry for the delay in whatever and that they were trying to get to his issue. I get it - people go in pissed off from the start so I definitely appreciate the kindness while they are trying to do their job and navigate very hostile people.
