However, before the employee could put the donut in the bag, I noticed a large horsefly flying around inside the display case, landing and flying around the donuts. I was instantly disgusted and reacted immediately. The employee seemed to acknowledge it, but her reaction felt more performative than genuinely concerned. It didn't seem to faze her, even as another customer who had already ordered coffee was also watching what was happening. I understand that bakeries and donut shops with open display cases can occasionally have issues with insects, and I'm not saying people shouldn't visit this business. Everyone can make their own decision. But personally, once I saw a horsefly flying around food that was about to be served to me, I couldn't bring myself to knowingly eat it. What surprised me even more was that after seeing my reaction, the employee still asked if I wanted the kolache. At that point, I had completely lost my appetite and simply walked out.
