Politics aside, this was a really spectacular tour that can be appreciated from both sides. It is self guided, and you can go at your own pace. It was nice that you were not on anyone else's timeframe so you can enjoy it at your own leisure. The docents were really nice, and very informative of the mansion. They encouraged questions if you had any. I'm not sure of what the historical tours look like throughout the year, but they are available and guided. There was no fee for this tour nor the Christmas tour.

It took about 45 minutes and then we got a 4 wine tasting (included) all 4 were great! We got to meander through all the plantation grounds and saw the stables, winery and pastures where horses were raised but most interesting were the slave cabins which honored the many slaves the family had. Plaques, photos with stories attached and the history of slavery in the South were presented with great care. More than half the slaves stayed on the plantation after the Emancipation as employees rather than slaves. Belle Mead Mansion and grounds are well worth seeing. No photos or videos allowed inside the mansion though to help preserve the many original furnishings and furniture. The store you walk through to go into to start your tour is amazingly decorated with plenty of things you might want to purchase when you leave.

She has lived there for years and had never done this tour, which made it feel like a bit of a discovery for both of us. We ended up at the Lotz House Museum, and it turned out to be one of those unexpectedly memorable experiences. On this particular day, we lucked out with Chuck as our guide. He is a former high school history professor, and you can tell immediately. He does not just recite facts, he brings everything to life with stories, details, and just the right amount of drama. The house itself is not large, but that almost works in its favor. Between the stories of the Lotz family and the vivid accounts of the Battle of Franklin happening right outside, you can practically see it all unfolding as you move from room to room. It is the kind of experience that sticks with you long after you leave, and at around seventeen dollars, it feels like an absolute steal. And do not skip the gift shop. Treat yourself to a peach Nehi soda on your way out. It is unexpectedly fantastic, and I am still thinking about how to get my hands on more.

This place is weird…read more You pay $15 to walk inside a full-size replica of the Parthenon, where the main attraction is an enormous white statue of Athena covered in gold leaf. And then... well, that's pretty much it. Athena herself is certainly impressive, although to my completely untrained eye she looked less like a Greek goddess and more like a giant Buddhist statue that had wandered into the wrong religion. I honestly wasn't sure what I was supposed to do. Bow? Pray? Light some incense? Take a selfie? I settled on staring at her for a few minutes and wondering where my $15 went. There was a little room showing how the sculptor made Athena, but I kept thinking there must be something more. Another exhibit. A secret passage. Something. Nope. Big Athena. Gold leaf. Thank you for coming. And perhaps my biggest question: Why is there a full-size replica of the Parthenon in Nashville in the first place? I'm sure there's a perfectly reasonable historical explanation, but I almost prefer not knowing. Nashville is the Athens of the South?! Seriously, what were they thinking?!! Worth seeing? Maybe once, just because it's so bizarre. Worth $15? That's between you and Athena. Nashville has hot chicken, country music, honky-tonks... and, for reasons I still don't fully understand, the Parthenon. It's weird.

The location was easy to find and a quick drive from Franklin. Plenty of parking was available for our group. The lot was gravel which I usually hate, but I didn't mind their lot. The field trip was well organized and had three parts. It was a great mix of being educational and entertaining. The kids started in the barn area and ate lunch (that they brought) at the tables in there. Bathrooms were available in that building. The guide there (a taller gentleman) taught the kids dances and etiquette. He was great with the kids. Next, we moved to the home tour. The guide there obviously did not like kids and was on the dry side. It was still educational and interesting to see the house. Lastly, the kids made cards using feathers and "ink" for writing. It was a nice variety of activities. Travellers Rest is a good spot to check out for people with an interest in history.

Now,  wherever I'm…read moretraveling to I always check to see if they have a tour.  Luckily, I was able to join an available tour for the downtown area on a Sunday morning. The day was cold and dreary, but I still had an amazing time. The tour guide, Paul, was excellent. He kept the tour entertaining and educational. Paul seemed very passionate about the history and culture of Nashville. The tour lasted a little over an hour, and at the end, he gave us suggestions and directions based on our interests. I loved his honesty on places he thought we would or wouldn't enjoy based on our interests.  These tours are a great way to meet other travelers while enjoying the major attractions.  Of course, the tours aren't completely free because guides do accept gratuity, which they truly deserve.

We booked our trip with BOF when things seemed to be getting a little better despite the pandemic…read more As seasoned distillery tourists, my friend and I were excited to check out some places in TN while we were in town, but didn't want to have to worry about driving ourselves or ride sharing due to distance between places. When I found BOF I knew we'd be in good hands. We booked the 3 distilleries + winery option (best bang for our buck and best way to see multiple places). But as our trip drew closer, the restrictions on bars and places began to return. About a week prior to our visit, BOF alerted us that we either would have to do just 1 distillery and the winery or we could get a refund completely. Since this experience was part of the whole reason we chose Nashville, we decided to back down to just the 1 distillery option. The company was great about keeping in contact with us up until the day. We met the bus at the designated pick up location, got inside, introduced ourselves and then the door closed and the wheels started moving. We were shocked that they kept our reservation - we were in a party bus and it was just the two of us! We were told we could bring roadies (we opted for coffee because we're old and needed the mid-day pick-me-up) and the bus was stocked with water and snacks. Off we went to our distillery - Corsair. It was a very cool brick building, and our guide (I wish I could remember her name, so sorry) got us checked in. Since we were about 30 minutes early, we had time to explore the rest of the building/shops which was a bonus. After the fantastic tour and tasting, we re-boarded and began our drive to Arrington Winery. Although any $ spent at Arrington is not included in the cost of BOF, it was totally worth it to have them take us there. It is a bit of a hike and I wouldn't feel comfortable driving myself back to downtown after a visit there. We had about 1.5 hours at Arrington which was perfect for some tastings, a glass of frose and some snacks. Our driver was safe, and super nice. Since it was just the two of us, we asked if she could drop us off direct at our hotel (about 2 miles away from the determined location) and she did, which saved us an additional UBER ride, so thank you! I look forward to whenever everything opens back up and we can book another tour with them again to try out some new places!
