Like many others I would not give this post office any stars at all. They are chronically understaffed, customer service appalling and everything is chaotic. I went to pick up mail from my box last week only to find it locked. Come to find out they are pulling down that particular bank of PO Boxes to make room for something else. They have assigned me another box which is also locked, and say it needs to be rekeyed but there is no locksmith to do it. They have no idea when I can receive mail again!!! read more

I don't normally do reviews like this, but I'm so incensed right now, I have to get it out of my system. We're a small business in Nevada, and we had a customer order a large item from us. We shipped it USPS because it was the cheapest option, and the online system had no problem with the address we provided for shipment, and USPS took our money. Today, we were notified that USPS doesn't deliver to that address (no reason given, and it's literally a mile from the Post Office). I called the office in Aspen and was told "it's an area we don't deliver to, and it's being returned to you". I asked why and was not given a legitimate reason, nor was there any explanation why if they don't deliver there, they accepted the address when shipped without question. They could have held the item at the post office and asked the customer to pick it up, which they would happily have done. Instead, it was immediately shipped back to us with no mention of a refund for taking it when they know they don't deliver there. We usually ship FedEx, and if we ever enter an address they don't deliver to, they inform us of that before accepting the delivery. So now our customer is not getting the package on time, and we're out the shipping with no explanation. From now on, we will ONLY ship FedEx or UPS. I would give zero stars here if that was possible. read more

Absolutely horrendous service. The only good thing about this place is the mail carrier Wayne. I think the window clerk's name that I've worked with is Maureen, she advised my entire building (at work) to put their mail on hold due to construction on our street even though carriers still have access to the building. I went ahead and did so, and told all the other tenants to do the same. Which was a mistake. I've stopped by the post office days in a row now trying to pick up our mail, every time it's the same thing. That our "mail carrier just got back from vacation and has a lot to catch up on!" which shouldn't matter considering I put our mail on hold, or that Maureen "Doesn't have anything back there for me!" even when the tracking has been updated and says that it's on hold at the post office. This woman will always make an excuse as to why she can't help you, and hopes that an innocent smile and giggle will give her a pass. I'll be taking our mail off hold tomorrow since it should never have been placed on hold in the first place, hopefully this will be the last time I'll have to deal with this place or Maureen. read more

Unfortunately leaving a zero is not possible on yelp. I have lived full time in aspen for 20 years and just assumed all post offices were apocalyptic offices where you went because you had to. knowing it was going to be the worst part of your day (week) and most likely nothing was going to get accomplished. Unless you were lucky enough to get Jim, remember counting the people in front of you hoping you would get him as he was nice, helpful, and could actually do something. After moving to a few other places I learned you ca get things done at a post office, people are helpful and are willing to help you...shocking. Aspen post office is so bad I will happily pay triple to go to fed ex or ups to avoid that place. Do not do vacation forwarding in aspen, they will lose your mail. read more

Most employees are nice, will try to locate a package for you, look up something, or intercept a package. The woman working the desk this morning was very rude and impatient with my issue. I asked her about a form (something i had filled out previously to intercept a package), to again intercept a new package. She sort of looked around and couldn't find the forms and then told me they don't even do that. I said I had done it recently and she argued and said it's against the rules, and she then told the next guy to come on up. Nice read more

For being in a town like Aspen, they give service like its gone out of business. You have a better chance of get help from the Glenwood, Silt and Rifle store. Don't waste your time call the Aspen store and no one answers the phone. I walked in to the store after calling and calling and while still calling i ask the guy at the desk if this was the right number and he said yes. the excuse was they were short staffed but when i walked in there was only one other person there beside me and two people behind the desk and the one walked away. read more

This office should simply be closed. They are either rude or stoned, but something is really wrong with everyone who 'works' there. They lose everything and the delivery driver is apparently very shy and doesn't like to leave packages on the doorstep. I was told this by a supervisor! I've never heard of shyness so debilitating in an adult that it prevented them from doing their job. He should work in a basement somewhere, or perhaps he's just amazingly lazy. Only use fed ex or ups. These people are useless. read more

Horrible customer service by Kevin Jordan. My package has status "return to sender" without a proper scan, no attempts to deliver were made, no explanation. Opened a service request, Kevin Jordan had responded once to me saying the address is not proper (which is not correct since it's not the first package I'm mailing out to that person). Than he closed the request right away without resolving the issue and stopped responding to my messages. It has been over 1.5 months but package still wasn't returned back to sender or delivered. Had to open a missing mail search, still no respond. Basically the package is still in 81611 Usps location and seems like nobody is planing to ship it back to me or to respond to my claims. I hate this place! They simply suck! They always screw up my orders, and have the worst customer service.

Since we moved here, beginning of May our carrier doesn't do his job. We have talked continually to the postmaster and supposedly things will straighten out....well I am a retired OIC from IA. Our carrier scans his pkgs. before he leaves the PO, that's a no no, he also refuses pkgs. and returns them beforehand leaves the PO. We are on route 7 and Gary does a lousy job. He doesn't correctly bring the package to the mailbox and make the pink slip to pick up. I am real sick of this and I will go above all their heads to correct this if you can't do it by this! First off, amazingly nice staff. Though I have never gone into the place without waiting in a line, I'm always greeted with a smile. Except for the older gentleman who looks like Santa and works passports... he can be quite ornery. Their scheduling system is still on paper, in a style similar to the Pony Express. Entering the Aspen post office is not the worst experience... getting a package is. Not even the magical powers of Amazon Prime can save you from an unreasonably long wait on those new fleece lined underwear. Oh no. Expect over a week for a 2 day prime delivery, simply because there is a room of misfit packages somewhere in the bowels of that Puppy Smith Dungeon. Here, packages lay until their owners call asking or someone finds the time to sort through them. Delivering packages is not a strong suit of this particular post office. When your parcel does emerge from their talons, postmen take the "close enough" approach when it comes to actually delivering your package, occasionally leaving letters and boxes strewn about the road. Overall, this establishment is lacking. It should have admittedly gotten one star. However Aspen is a wonderful town with so many wonderful things to experience, we begrudgingly deal with the current state of the Puppy Smith Post Office. read more

It is simply astonishing how many parcels have been 'lost', how many false promises to locate these 'ghostly' parcels have been made, only to have them magically re-appear days later without so much of an apology. This place is the absolute WORST! read more

I wish I could give negative stars for this place. This is probably the worst establishment in Colorado. In the past two months alone they have lost 2 of my packages with no explanation on where they went. The only people that wear masks in the office are the two on the front line, so you'll see all the workers in the back not wearing masks and they'll walk your package up to the front without a mask on, that is if you are lucky enough that they actually find you package. read more

Our second home is in Aspen, we receive packages via USPS throughout the summers and holiday season with no problem at all. We also have no issues when we visit the post. If could give this Post Office 0 stars I would. This is by far the worst post office I've ever been to and I'm from busy Los Angeles. They always have a crazy line because they only have about two people working at a time. A clerk named "Hank" helped me last time and he was absolutely terrible. Not only was he rude but he was eating sunflower seeds the same time he was "helping" me with my package. He had greasy hands, sunflower seeds all over his beard and shirt and it made me feel sick. I came a second time because and saw the same guy giving a lady attitude because her kids played around the post office. This lady had her hands full and instead of helping her he had the audacity to give her attitude. Not sure why this kind of service and behavior is aloud but it is completely unacceptable. read more

Called up to check on an RTS (return to sender) package to see if it was still there for pick up. The lady (Stacy) that I asked this simple request of said it wasn't there. Funny because she didn't even go and check. She assumed based on the date of the scan that it wouldn't be there. I ship 300+ mail pieces a month and I am very familiar with how the postal service handles their RTS packages. I've had very helpful employees find things for me that "weren't supposed" to be where they were, and it's quite common. This lady couldn't be bothered to even check. She couldn't be bothered to ask me any package details or even the tracking number for the package I was seeking assistance with. It seemed as if she was just in a hurry to get me off of the phone and the easiest way was to just say "It's not here, sorry". I call Post Office locations on a regular basis to track down problem packages. This is part of my job and I do it for a living. This was the worst encounter yet. Like my problem wasn't any concern to them. She could have at least put me on hold and acted like she cared. read more

Terrible lines, not enough people working. The only reason why I gave one star is bc when I came to do some important passport paperwork there was one great clerk who was very knowledgeable and helped me get things done right. He actually deserves 4 stars. But this is one of the worst USPS and I'm from NYC. read more

I tried calling this post office for 2 hours. Was put on hold for an hour and then hung up on. I then continued to try to call them for another hour and was repeatedly hung up on without them saying a word. I filed a formal complaint with the USPS Inspector's office. This post office is the worst in the entire country. I cannot fathom how anyone working here still has a job. Unbelievable treatment, I seriously cannot believe it. **Astonishingly** awful. Worth it/faster/friendlier to drive to Basalt. The line in Aspen is absurd & so are the rude Honey Badger attitudes -- they just don't give a f*@&. I get other people's mail on a weekly basis. They force/shove/crush boxes that don't actually fit into the package lockers b/c they're too lazy to bring them to the door - a very short walk - & as a result I spend 10+ minutes extricating the boxes in pieces. I placed a hold before leaving town, had an emergency & needed to extend it. I called MANY times - different days, different times of day - & they NEVER answered the phone. All of my held mail was returned to the senders. No one - supervisor included - takes responsibility for solving problems; they all just ramble excuses for their bad customer service. They have a government job with benefits that are far better than what most hard-working locals get & they still act put-out & practically "postal" instead of doing their jobs with any modicum of competence. read more

There is nothing wrong with the people at the Post Office. They are going through a really tough time with the changes of Amazon. On average one CCA are required to do nearly 300 parcels with time constraints of 2 minutes for each. To think they are lazy. (That is far from it!) They have to move fast to get those parcels to each residence. The cost of living in Aspen is too high and unfortunately this makes the location unwelcoming for labor workers interested in applying for a job here. Therefore they are under staffed and a lot of people will say its not their problem. This is the reality ot the Post Office. That kind of attitude doesn't change the environment or the lack of empathy. The other issue is there are no major stores to ease the bulk of their work. I also bet majority of the workers have to commute longer distances because housing affordability is too high. In turn this affects the number of people working and their physical health. These people also go through a rigorous Federal background check and drug screening test. I highly doubt they are doing anything illegally to jeopardize their job. If anything is wrong, they probably are exhausted from hauling a large parcel to your home. They can only do so much given the amount of time and the number of residence in this area. So statistically mistakes will happen. I wouldn't expect these people to be in a good mood because the job isn't easy for the Clerks or the CCA's. To recommend them to be closed is cruel because these people leave their homes and children to deliver everyone's mail from dusk til dawn and they work during holidays, bad weather conditions ect...ect... I've always had respect towards the Post office since I was younger. These people do a lot and they are underappreciated. Maybe the community should find ways to improve the system instead of dismantling it based on ignorant observations. Yeah, I get it. You can't find a package or clerk was having a bad day. If the problem is resolved then drop it. If the Clerk was rude just ignore it and don't let it ruin your day. Are we all nice 100% of the time even behind closed doors? read more

I can't be dishonest... I do like not love everyone there.... And Aspen is a lazy town.... and the lines are not so long they just take FOREVER.. Something has to be said about the delivery of packages... NOT GOOD! missing or magical appearing.... or into the unknown.....I even had to pick up a package at an entirely wrong address.... They either need more staff or better staff.. I have no idea... Living in the mountain you DEPEND on your mail. Get it together guys.... read more

I am giving 4 stars thanks to the Supervisor who tried to help us he went beyond and above trying to find a package and explaining to Us the procedure of rental property service in the mountains who knew that if you are renting a property that has no mailbox you won't receive your package but you can have your package ship to the post office as 'general delivery' then your name, He was very professional and helpful unlike the nasty dressed, nasty attitude , so rude and unprofessional old men at the front he seriously needs to retire his customer service is the worst and his attitude even to his management is very unprofessional he was very rude to him when he asked about the return to sender packages and when the supervisor walked back to find it We overheard him telling the other worker how he didn't have to listen to the supervisor and bragging how he couldn't do anything to him he was doing this on purpose so we could hear and not complain about his nasty attitude when we walked in I totally understand all of the people giving 1 stars if it was for that old man I wouldn't give any but at least there is hope for the post office with supervisors like the one there I forgot his name but he was the only one dressed appropriate for an office work not like old west farm worker We love Aspen and come often so I truly hope this guy get his retirement soon. read more

Visiting this post office was the worst experience I have had in a long time. I first went into the office last week because they require you to come to the office to make an appt with the Passport office (you can't call to make the appt). I showed up today on time for my 11am appt. They made me wait 15 mins for the most unhelpful person to tell me to "just put everything in an envelope and mail it". I had questions about how to fill out the form that I downloaded from the internet and he rudely informed me that it was the wrong form. The form I downloaded was specifically for a name change (which is what I needed). He handed me another form and told me where to mail it and include a check for $110. On THEIR website it explained that name changes are free as my passport is still valid. He rudely responded by saying "fill out the form and send the check." He then tossed a postal envelope at me and said mail it priority. So....I made an appt to get NO help, have someone be rude to me and talk to me like I am stupid, and can't even mail the information to their own office for me. I will never visit or purchase anything from this post office again and encourage you to do the same. I will be driving 40 to 50 miles to visit another passport office that I'm sure will be able to assist me. read more
