I mailed a card on January 22 with money inside for a young boy for his birthday. I received the card back on April 18 th The card was empty and the envelope was destroyed I brought this envelope into the Postal Service. I put it in the slot myself for South Boston only and obviously it never got mailed so someone took the money out of the card and the card got lost somewhere and I got a returned to me empty a mess very very disappointed and this is the second time this has happened to me so now I'll have to go to Milton to mail my things because I don't trust this post office anymore the label on the card says return to sender, not delivery as addressed unable to forward. I live on D and Broadway our building was built two years ago but listed as a Broadway address. The post office said no your address is on D st as that's where the entrance is. Then I get a note saying my electricity is being shut off because I haven't paid in 1.5 years Turns out all my electric bills were getting returned to sender hmm but all my other mail was being delivered. The service here is quite poor. It's slow and they don't scan your packages right away. I waited in line to get a receipt for my package so that I would have tracking and they acted as though I was a burden to them. They weren't particularly busy and all they had to do was scan the package and print me a receipt. Last time i didn't get a receipt and it wasn't scanned for nearly 24 hours per the tracking on poshmark. They've lost packages of ours before as well. So about this place: There are wonderful staff at the counter and any post office has a wait so stop crying you big babies!!!! My problem is the workers (mostly women) that work bwhind the PO boxes. They talk like no one is around and have huge potty mouths. Im not perfect, but I dont swear around children and people who are just trying to wait in line or get their mail settled. So its the United States Postal Service. Is it awesome? Its a post office, what kind of question is that? But it gets the job done. Sure, the hours are terrible, but if you work in the area, it works. If you don't (like me), they're open until 1p on Saturdays. Good enough. Sometimes they have a bit of a hard time finding my packages, but at least parking here is easy and I've never had to wait on line (or at least not more than a 2-person line). I routinely, a half a dozen times a month, receive mail addressed to other people in Southie. I write in bold letters "delivered to the wrong address" if anyone reading this happens to have received any of these. I went in and asked to speak to a supervisor after having received a court order for someone on E 4th St (I'm on E Broadway) falling out of the envelop lying in my vestibule. He could have cared less. I wonder how much of my mail has been scattered around Southie? They really don't care at all. read more

Wow. I wish I could give this place negative stars. I was dumbfounded at the negative YELP reviews until this week. I have always had great experiences there, friendly, fast, helpful staff. Again, until this week. Not to get into excrutiating detail, I'll say this. They lost a package of mine, although it's in the system as "delivered" I never got it. Now you could say maybe it was stolen, HOWEVER the day that it is recorded as delivered is the day that I got the slip saying that he tried to deliver it but needed a signature. Now tell me this, Yelpers, if it was "delivered" why did he leave a slip?? BTW: I signed the slip and left it on the door. It was collected, but I never got the package. Here's where the worst customer service experience of my life comes in. Go to the post office looking for my package. They can't find it. They say it's being delivered today. Funny, I already got the mail today-wasn't there. They go talk to the supervisor. Who is "too busy" to come out and talk to me. Clerk promises that she will give her the message with my phone number and that the supervisor will talk to the carrier when he comes back for the day and call me. If not, come back tomorrow. It's tomorrow. I (of course) didn't hear anything. I go to post office. Talk to the clerk first see if she can find the package. She can't. Ask for the supervisor. Again, she's "too busy". NOW I'M MAD. I say "no problem, I'll wait". Finally she comes out and starts SCREAMING AT ME. "why are you here? i'll call you when i know something. i don't know why you are here." I calmly (although with a shaking voice) say "I was old to come back if I didn't hear from you". She, still screaming says "I don't know why you were told that, I don't know what to tell you, I don't know where your package is. I'll call you if I find anything out". She walks away without letting me get a word in edgewise. The clerk who was helping me apologized for the supervisor after she waddled back to her desk and the guy behind me just said "wow". If the people who work for you have to apologize for your actions, you probably shouldn't be a supervisor. It should be the other way around. By the way, I've already called and put a complaint in to USPS and am planning to write a letter as well. So I found this USPS internal audit that is publicly available. As far I can tell, this South Boston USPS branch, by far and away, is the worst Post Office in the United States. I just had a client confirm that they sent a check from Connecticut on June 5, 2018. It is now July 3, 2018. No check. I had mail from Salem, MA take 60 days to arrive. I consistently get other peoples mail in my mailbox. The mail carrier will often throw all the mail on the lobby floor (I'm in a small commercial building). The mail carrier for this neighborhood is either lazy, can't read, is mentally challenged or just an a$$hole, most likely all of the above. The pony express was faster, and they had to fight bandits and hostile natives. I'll do anything and everything possible to stop using the USPS. No wonder they're broke. read more

I went twice in a day and talked to two people wbouy sending a small package abroad (going t2ice waa my fault, not yours) and both people were helpful about my options. Every time I go in there's a line at least 5 deep and you just stand there without any acknowledgement of the long wait from the staff. They are also extremely rude once you do get to the counter. It doesn't have the best hours (non-worker-friendly 7:30-5 Monday through Friday and Saturdays from 7:30-1), but if you live in South Boston and you're not home when your package arrives, that's where it'll end up and so that's where you'll be going. Leave yourself some extra time if you go in the AM -- there's almost always a line. My uncle was coming to visit from out of country and had mail sent to me without making me aware. My girlfriend told the postal carrier it wasnt ours and i got home shortly after. I tracked down a postal carrier to ask if she could point me in the right direction. She pulled out her personal cell phone, called him, and since he was on other side of town she offered to have him drop it to her and deliver it to me after her route. I wish I had got her last name but her first was Jill. It isn't often that people you know will go out of their way to help you, nevermind a total stranger. Thank you Jill! Absolutely horrible location and delivery practices. Two different items sent certified mail overnight from South Boston to Quincy and they took 5 days. It is absolutely amazing that FedEx and others can get across the country in 2-3 days but the Boston post office can't get something one town over in that same time. read more

So the people in this branch are always so nice when I go there. I am torn on this review as a result. They, for some reason, will not stop leaving my packages at my front door. I live across the street from the projects. The reason I don't want my packages left is that they keep getting stolen. This seems like a no brainer to me. The delivery guy is painfully impatient. I work from home, so he could just ring the doorbell and I would grab it in 3 seconds. Instead, he puts me through the hassle of having to contact sellers or worse yet, lose the money. This is most definitely the worst post office I've ever been to. I'm from a one-horse town in Pennsylvania, and I lived in NYC for many years, and I assure you that the USPS service is better in both of those places than it is in south Boston. I've lived here for 2+ years and I've wanted to write a review for a long time, so this is not a rash decision. I'm actually in line to mail something right now, and have been for 30 minutes. They have ONE person working (it's a Friday). God bless him, but he needs help. The line is out the door and his computer is slow. This is par for the course at the E 3rd Street location. I always go to the Fort Point post office (HIGHLY RECOMMEND) but tonight I really need to pick up a thing or two at Foodie's and I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone. The South Boston Post Office has proven to be very disorganized. They have failed to deliver packages on numerous occasions. Furthermore, they failed to take responsibility for this failure. Aside from packages often times I don't receive ordinary bills. The loss of packages has caused frustration and hesitancy to order items online. Do I have to even give it 1 star? As others have said I'd give negative stars if possible. This place has lost at least 3 packages and done nothing to try to find them. This is in the 2 years that I've lived near them. I really think it's possible someone is stealing and they just aren't dealing with it. The first time I got a package notice, went to pick it up and they couldn't find it. Told me they'd look for it and call me. Never called. Went back 2 days later and no one knew what I was talking about. Spoke to supposedly a supervisor who said he'd keep looking but that basically there just wasn't anything they could do about it. I asked if that meant I was just out the money and he shrugged. Never got it and was out the money. Second time, same thing. Got a notice, went to pick it up and they said it was entered as delivered. I said how can that be when I have the notice right here to pick it up? They contacted the driver who said he had scanned it delivered by accident but had taken it back to the post office for pickup. He couldn't find it, no one there could find it. Again told "huh, well we'll look for it and call you". Big surprise, no call. Went back 3 times and got nowhere again. Ended up out about $150 for an LL Bean order. Couldn't even get a refund from Bean because it was scanned as delivered. Asked who I could complain to and was told I already had talked to the supervisor. Third time pretty much the same as the first. Make sure all packages are sent UPS or FedEx, pay extra if you have to!! They even screwed up a vacation mail hold. Delivered 1/2 the mail randomly and held the rest. Was supposed to be held for pickup but they delivered it. This place seriously SUCKS! read more

Recently they have decided to play delivery roulette, one day they will deliver mail the next day they will send everything back "return to sender" and then the day after they will send it on again. I rang up to complain and recieved a stern gentlemen yell at me saying that it was my fault because there is a new letter carrier. read more

small local post office, always a little line but it moves right along. Didn't realize how lucky I have been with this small post office until I went to the large Norwood post office on a saturday with a friend and we waited in line for almost 45 min. She said that she always waits at least a half hour there. I don't think i've ever waited more then 10 min at this one in south boston. Impossible to give this post office stars - what they really need is a kick in the butt and a reminder that they are supposed to be working for us. If the service is HORRIBLE and there are consistantly "LOST" packages then there is a serious problem and they are NOT doing their jobs. Pretty amazing how packages are ALWAYS resealed when they are eventually found . . . on the rare times when they are found, but only because the recipient continues to haunt them daily. Funny thing how the checks (and god forbid cash) are no longer in the packages though. And this is why FedEx is now getting my $. It may be more expensive, but at least I know that my package will arrive, along with all of the original contents!
