This post office boasts a 4.0 rating, but its actual service is an absolute joke. They claim to open at 6:00 AM. I arrived at 7:30 AM to closed doors, which was bad enough, but by 8:00 AM, they still hadn't opened. Their excuse? 'Understaffing.' Yet, there was absolutely zero notification of this on their official website. This is a staggering level of incompetence. It's not even a question of good or bad customer service--there was literally no one there to provide it. Nearly 20 people were trapped waiting inside, all of them in a massive rush because they needed to mail their items before clocking into work. This chaotic mess is a direct result of USPS's systemic mismanagement. It is acceptable to face staffing shortages, but it is completely unacceptable to fail to update your official hours online. You mislead the public into believing you open at 6:00 AM, post a note on the wall saying 8:00 AM, and then fail to honor even that time due to a 'lack of personnel.' My registered letter, return receipt requested, went to this post office instead of being delivered to the address on the package...It was like it went into a black hole. You cannot speak with anyone at this office on the phone or via email. Short of driving to Boston, my envelope is not being delivered and has gone, I suspect, to the dead letter file! A worker was very rude and belittling to a customer who was just trying to buy stamps, the customer had given this worker the money for the stamps and the lady took the money without giving the lady stamps. when the lady asked for her money back the lady kept saying no. she kept calling the woman stupid and telling her to couldn't do math, and it was very offensive to talk to a woman who's first language is obviously not english all this. she made the woman cry and the manager gave the lady her 100 dollars back, leaving the poor old lady crying. The worker was unremorseful and went with no warning for yelling at the woman then refusing her service. Everyone in the room was unfit for customer service. I must update that the worker proceeded to make fun of this older woman for crying to 3 different coworkers infront of all other customers. read more

I'm had tracking number but, unfortunately elderly relative the sender used an old address. I called and went in directly and apparently front facing or telephone they would not help me. Instead they will send item back across country. I was told what do you expect me to do? Um you have tracking number it was in Roxbury put a stop on it and I'll pick it up. Apparently that is impossible to do? Tried calling Roxbury in morning to stop package for pick up but they don't answer phone and when they do they hang up. Seems odd they can't with tracking number help me. She said what do you expect me to do we're the post office?.... Um yeah exactly track a package and change address in system.. thought it he in their wheelhouse but apparently not. read more

Looking for a Post Office? There is a full service Post Office in South Station but some may not know about it since it is tucked away. Head to track 11 and 12 and follow the signs and path to Fort Point Station. They open at 6 so if you go in the morning the lines are shorter. Lunch and later plan to wait for a while up to 30 minutes depending on what the folks ahead of you are sending. Be sure to push the button and get your "grocery" number. You wouldn't want to stand in line and realize you won't be served without the number. In addition to the service counter there are other services to get stamps and mail items on your own. read more

I live north of Boston. on Monday, my package was dropped off in Boston. Then my package was shipped to North Reading for processing. During the shipping process, the package had to pass my home address. The next scan was the package was back in Boston where it was deposited. How ridiculous is that? the package went from Boston to Middlesex back to Boston to come back to the Middlesex County area it has been transported four times using manpower, gas and systems to end up back in the same place it was deposited. the customer still doesn't have the package, but I've been watching it bounce past my house and in processing facilities. For those of you who work during normal business hours making it impossible to go to the post office, this is your go-to place!! They literally open 6am-midnight 7 days per week. Yes, they are open on Sundays too! Make sure you grab a number when you walk in though because sometimes they're very busy with a lot of ppl waiting to be helped. I came on a Sunday 4pm, and my wait was 20+ mins. I think there's 2 entrances but if you're coming from near south station, you basically find signs for train tracks 11,12,13 and then you'll see signs directing you to usps towards the left of these tracks. read more

A five star post office? Really? Yes, really. This is the mother of all post offices - open all the time, has everything you could possibly need that's mail related, and at any given point has near on a billion pieces of mail running through it (I'm in business, I know numbers). The situation: due to long work hours, my boyfriend missed email notifications that he sold two books online. They were supposed to be mailed already. The solution: I got up early with him (5:30 AM), and while he headed to work I headed to South Station on the Red Line. Walked to this post office, bought two padded envelopes, and mailed the books priority mail. That early in the morning, there was no line (though I line formed before I left). The employees were nice and helpful, and I was finished with enough time to visit Peet's for coffee before I got back on the Red Line to get to work. For the busy times, it looks like they have now installed an APC machine (maybe they read Kevin D.'s review). In other cities, the main mail facility is way out, maybe near the airport. But this facility is incredibly convenient. Hooray! read more

Your SmartPost attempted delivery after hours and you were notified (or not - perhaps you checked the tracking number and discovered this yourself) of a "Delivery exception" because "Customer not available or business closed - Please contact local Post Office to pick up or reschedule delivery" Let me make this easy for you in the Boston area - just wait. They will reattempt delivery the next day, even though the message didn't say so. My hard won route (which you may now freely avoid) - . Called FedEx (the package routing # was connected to the FedEx site) . Obtained a USPS # to call - 1-800-222-1811 . Got entirely frustrated with an automated system that could not recognize the #s and letters I spoke (no, my first name is not 3 letters spelled V-I-D... where did the other 3 letters disappear to?) Not to mention, the electronic voice that spoke confirmation of those letters/numbers sounded quite garbled. . Called the Milk Street Post Office, and was redirected to the Fort Point location at 617-654-5304 or 617-654-5305. . Called Fort Point to reach a nice man who immediately laid my fears to rest, by informing me that they would attempt redelivery today. They were just a bit overwhelmed yesterday with a larger than usual number of packages to deliver after a long weekend. (Turns out the 800 number I dialed was their international #... Poor international folk who would have to deal with this electronic voice. A+ for hours. I don't have high standards for post offices anymore, so as long as they can process my shipping requests without issue - which has always been the case - I'm fine. Minus one star for customer service. Last time I went in, I needed a money order. I got the money order quick enough, and without issue, but since it was raining, I asked for an envelope to protect the money order slip. The cashier told me she didn't have any envelopes. How is it that a *post office* doesn't have an envelope? The post office processes plenty of small and important documents that people store in envelopes, so I can't imagine that my request is that unusual. read more

Apparently this is like the DMV.. for the love of God GRAB A NUMBER. Even if no one else is in the store (aside from one person at the counter being helped). Seriously, even if you stand there, at the front of an imaginary line you're creating alone, GRAB A NUMBER. Because even if you're standing there for 5 minutes waiting for the person at the counter to finish and there's STILL no one else in the store, they still want that number. Yup that's right, even if they saw you walk right up to the front and made eye contact and saw you didn't grab a number and you're the only person in there.. they'll still call that number and when you walk up they'll ask, "do you have a number" UM no, because I was alone.. and you saw I was the only person in the store. As I am at the counter explaining this to you a couple people comes in and pull numbers. And now YOU have to go grab a number and wait while four other numbers get called - two of them never showed - including the one that was called when you mistakenly walked up to the counter for service. AWESOME customer service.. thanks for being a robot guys On a side note, in every other store there's a stupid rope saying "Line Forms Here" to keep things civilized, and yet at this one, why are there no signs at the counter telling you to "Grab a Number," ? Be careful if you need to submit a passport renewal application on a Sunday and you think this postal office will help. Even though they say they process passports on a Sunday, you'll find only one employee working behind the desk, and only if you ask while you're in line for a half-hour will you find out she is not processing passport applications because she is the only employee there, and she doesn't know where her fellow employees are (even though you can hear them shuffling around in the back room). Don't forget - these are civil services employees with no incentive for productivity, so plan accordingly. read more

Ah, the lovely Fort Point Station, the public face of the massive General Mail Facility Boston that looms along the middle reaches of Fort Point Channel, and the only place I know in New England that you can conduct mail any time, day or night. That's right, this post office is open 24 hours. Need a postmark of that day at 11:30 at night? You got it. Forget a birthday and need something in the mail ASAP? This is your place -- mail from any other post office whose ZIP begins with 021- or 022- is going to have to come here first anyway. By mailing it here you skip a step. The best part is, you get to see what kind of slackers and sociopaths come down to the post office at 2:30 in the morning (excluding yourself from that labeling of course, because you're, um, normal... yeah). Plus -- don't tell anyone, but the 15-minute parking lot is a great way to drop someone off at South Station, to which this post office is connected by a hallway and outdoor walkway. read more

Seriously. This is an important place, and it needs your help. For the second time in recent years, the Postmistress of Boston (yes, that's her title) has truncated the hours of this post office. Since October, it's been limited to closing at midnight and opening at 6:00 AM. This ruins one of the best utilities that Boston has ever had, a true full-service 24 post office. Despite "these economic times", the clerks there have told me that even when they are not open in the interim of 0:00 to 6:00, the same number of employees are still working there. Thus it doesn't seem that this is due to cost-cutting issues. Last time this happened, printed and vocal complaints (including mine) brought the hours back to 24-hour again. I've used this post office for many years, preferring to visit at roughly 1 AM, for Ebay and all other important USPS shipping. The parking is decent, and what's of utmost importance to me, is that this post office can be incredibly efficient. Particularly after 11 PM, you can dodge the usual idiocy of a normal post office (ever been to a typical post office around lunch time? ever stand and wait for it to be explained to people who ship 2 packages every 3 years that they need to use a return address? you know what I mean). Going there late with a stack of packages you've already prepared properly or that ONE letter that has to go out immediately is a QUICK process most of the time, and there's usually parking and no traffic at 1 AM. It's an entirely different way to experience that neighborhood, and can be startlingly efficient as well. We need to petition the postmistress and this post office to return to 24 hours and its former glory. If Boston needs one feature to be available for 24 hours, and if it really is a "World Class City" like Menino has always insisted, then it really ought to be a solid post office. read more

Open until midnight!!! That's right. Where else do you find a post office that works with *your* hours? The doors are open here from 6 am to midnight 7 days a week. Arrival? Super easy, driving or taking public transit. This is right next to South Station, and there are a good number of parking spaces right out front if you need to run in to mail something. (I've never seen them all fill up.) This post office is also very organized, just grab a number when you walk in the door, get your items together, and then head up to the counter when your number is called. To make it even clearer, your number is flashed above the spot on the counter where the associate is available! When it comes to post offices, this really is as good as it gets. read more

Well, I never thought I'd be reviewing a post office...but I will gladly review this one. This one is a gem! The service is quick, efficient and accurate. Best of all it's open for so long it's like it's 24/7! There's free parking out front and a few spaces closer to the door with 15 min parking. Every time I've gone there the supplies are stocked, the clerks are very helpful and make shipping less of a pain than it has to be. read more

This is my favorite post office in all of Boston. I mail a lot of things, so I know what I'm talking about. This post office is easy to get to via public transportation. It is on my commute. It is open ALL THE TIME. The supplies in the lobby are usually plentiful. It can get busy during commuting hours and lunchtime, but it has an automated number-calling system, so you walk in and take a number and then stand or sit or WHATEVER until your letter is called. The lobby is bright and spacious, utilitarian but not oppressive. The staff deal with a huge volume of customers. Some of the staff like to chat more than others. I'm sure this is also true of their customers. I appreciate that they are businesslike and try to keep the line moving, but they are always polite and helpful. And they always have a really good selection of stamps. There is also an automated postage center in the hallway, often accompanied by an attendant who will help you if you need help. Sometimes also if you don't need help. What you learn from this attendant can help you be a better package-mailer in the future, even at less awesome post offices. read more

The 24-hour post office has saved my behind on many occasions. The people that work here are friendly, funny, and familiar (A+ for the 3 F's). They have an APC machine so you don't necessarily have to wait in line. Plus, there is a minimal selection of packing materials. Bring a snack, a book, or your nintendo DS because you may have to wait as long as an a hour. The post office is indeed connected by a long corridor to the South Station Amtrack / Communter Rail platforms. read more

Budget deficits be damned, USPS Ft Point is open to midnight, 7 days a week. Granted, waits after hours are a bit on the long side trying to accommodate all the last-minute customers, but a ticket system keeps the wait civil. Best of all, plenty of on-site parking. (Actually, only 10 or so spots, but nobody drives here, so plenty of spots available. NB: While Ft Point also has a passport window, this closes at normal business hours. read more

Listen, no one wants to hear my post office drama and shenanigans. Needless to say, my first time mailing an international package was fraught with dilemmas from beginning, to middle, to end. After having just read "Post Office" I can't say I'm much surprised by the complete ineptitude of these government employees... or maybe I just noticed it more. The package was eventually mailed but whether or not it arrives will be a weeks-long waiting game. One star is for the location, which is quite convenient to my office. The other star is for the fact that they offer cash back now! Who knew, cash back at the post office! They're always quick here, and friendly, even maybe too friendly--a woman hitting on a gay man 30 years younger than her, but we all laughed and loved it. They've got everything fully stocked too. WOW!! OPEN 24/7!! I didn't believe it at first but I decided to give it a shot. As I walked in, I could not believe my eyes. I saw real, live people working at the post office at 7pm on a FRIDAY!! WoW!! Normally, all government offices are closed at 5pm sharp but not here. There weren't that many customers in line but you still had to take a ticket and wait line as if you were waiting at the RMV to get your driver's license renewed. If you don't feel like waiting, there's an automated postal machine which is somewhat confusing at first but much faster than waiting in line. This is a great place to go to if you need to mail something at the last minute or perhaps get some money orders and some postage stamps. Also a great place to go to if you need to mail out your taxes if you're one of those super late procrastinators. It is conveniently located on the Red line at South Station. Parking can be a problem during the daytime but not after 7pm where everyone leaves the city. Besides 7 Eleven, Boston Bowl, and a 24hr CVS, you now have a 24 hour post office! Sweeet!! read more

This is a great post office. The people are really nice and helpful. They are always willing to answer my questions and help me determine the best way to ship. They have a take a number system, which has its advantages and disadvantages. The main thing I don't like about the system is that if you need questions answered before you are ready to get in line (what box do I use? what label to I fill out?) it can be annoying to have to wait with your number to ask, and then go back to do your thing. That being said, the same can be true in P.O.s where there is just a regular line, system. The post office has extended hours, which is really convenient. There is an electronic kiosk that helps save time for basic packages, which I like, but mostly I'd rather go to the actual people. read more
