It's rare to have a great experience at the post office, but I was just mailing a fragile tea set to a friend in another state and none of the boxes they had would fit well, but Michael suggested cutting down one box and reforming it to fit the tea set. Five stars for a Post Office? Yes. Do they mess things up? Sure. Are they highly efficient for what they do? Absolutely. Most of my experiences in Post Offices involve huge lines and dawdling employees. The folks here seem to actually want to get through the line quickly. Whenever I come to ship something out they're helpful, friendly, and if treated with respect give it back in return. (Though I'd imagine they wouldn't hesitate to put the smack down if you step up. This is East Cambridge after all) The hours are a bit wonky but they open early enough (7:30) that I have plenty of time to stop in before work to pick up packages/stamps/whatever. In this neighborhood I think USPS is the best shipping option. Apparently in a past life East Cambridge was a bit shady so UPS/FEDEX refuse to leave packages at the door. This means a trip out to Somerville ($45 cab ride) or several days in rerouting (UPS sends it through Rhode Island, natch) to get your package. But the Post Office will hold it for you in the convenient office. Works for me! Sadly it seems like the Postal Service is slowly dying. I know many people could care less but it's a part of our history and really, you get a lot for your 42 cents. Until such time they will get my business. read more

If I was rating the sales associates/front desk staff it would easily be a five star rating. The woman I worked with today was very kind, polite, knowledgeable, and patient with all of my fumbling. She even helped me save money by helping me pick out a flat rate box. She also gave me some tips on packing the box so the electronics wouldn't break. Before checking out she also reminded me to pick up stamps. She happened to show me the pretty stamps (commemorating something). I have never been shown them before I've always just been given forever stamps. I loved the stamps she sold me (they have gold foil in them and pretty illustrations). Unfortunately, I'm rating the whole store which I have to take away a star for. The manager or supervisor noted the down time in the store (while I was trying to pack my box and find the right address) and found that it was appropriate to verbally reprimand the woman I was working with right at the front counter. He was basically detailing an interaction with a young woman earlier in he day and gave her no chance to explain herself. He, then, told her he *had* to write her up for whatever the mistake was right out in the public area. She was obviously upset. Dude, don't publicly humiliate an employee. It was clear I was still in the store. It was clear she was upset. It really ruined a nice interaction I was having because I knew she was trying her best to keep her "customer service" face. read more

I live right around the corner from this USPS Daniel is correct. Packages will NOT be left in this neighborhood. I prefer to pick mine up at this location, safe and secure with the "ladies"......The line here is never too long and it is a one stop shop for anything mail related. There has to be at least one crab apple at any given post office, and this location has its prime example, but the other ladies are gracious and respectful. (Sometimes a few substitutes come in, and some of those are of the male persuasion.) The line can be achingly long, especially at the noon hour and the end of the day, as there is often only one person on duty. With people buying multiple money orders, sending large boxes overseas, and answering Yes to at least one of those safety questions, it really is a test of your patience. I've waited for over 20 minutes here many times. Aside from those gripes, this is a small neighborhood PO where you will see your neighbors and often have time for a lengthy conversation in line, whether you want it or not. read more

My favorite post office in the whole entire United States. If yelp allowed 10 stars they would get it from me! I've had to come to this post office on many different occasions, each time has been a pleasant experience. They have two widows and hardly ever any line. If there is a line, its always been just one other person. The two ladies behind the window have always been very helpful, a big different then post office in Los Angeles, Calif where you have to speak to them through closed bullet proof windows. read more

I'm sorry, but just because you work at the Post Office does not mean you can exhibit horrendous customer service. You hate your job... I get it. You hate working during the holidays... i get that too. Christmas must be a postal worker's biggest nightmare... but come on... there is no reason to be down right mean and condescending towards people. I don't expect amazing customer service... but I do expect a friendly attitude. For this, the USPS of Cambridge Street in East Cambridge has by far the worst permanent case of The Mondays since... well... since Mondays were invented. read more

The lines are short and it's conveniently on the way to Lechmere. BUT the main woman who handles the outgoing mail is quite grumpy. I know rules are rules, but how about just slapping a piece of packing tape for me on the box to seal it, without making me buy a whole freaking roll? I only need a strip. And don't gripe and complain when we aren't prepared to simply hand you a box complete with customs/duties forms and everything already post-marked. It's your job to help us ship stuff. If it were as easy as handing you a box and our money, we'd simply use an ATM like system like at the main Brookline branch (which is only an okay system). I feel I'd rather they put in a mailing machine so I would only have to talk to the people behind the desk less than 10% of the time. I've had much better experiences at the USPS on Mass Ave in Boston across from the Christian Science center and my local one in the suburbs. Unfortunately I keep coming back here b/c it's the closest post office :( read more

Wonder how long it's going to take the postman that is SUPPOSE to be picking up mail from the mailbox tat is located on McGrath Highway cambridge , in front of the Medical Building to realize that gee there hasn't been any mail for a while in this box.. MAYBE because the mailbox is JAMMED and no one can Open it to place mail in the slot.. it has been like that for a while! read more

Typical surly post office service though the ladies are nice once you get to know them. Consistantly the shortest lines around (this may be due to the fact that the courthouse nearby is closed for asbestos removal.) Because lines are short, clerks are more willing to help. read more
