Very rude lady working one of the windows. I'm pretty sure she was talking on the phone while getting angry with me for asking to ship a package. I've worked at a post office for two years myself. Usually when people come up with a box, we print them a label with their info and it's pretty simple. At least where I worked. She told me to write the addresses on the box with a marker, so I did. She told me where to stand but yelled at me to move anyway. I still wrote my addresses in the wrong spot, I guess, so she just got more angry and didn't give me any way to ship my package. I went to the UPS store and they did it in two seconds. Idk, I admit I apparently did this wrong, but she was extremely rude and wanted to fight, not help. Before that I said good morning and nothing then she asked me am I going to keep looking around or just stand there looking dumb. Avoid using this location. I would use this post office near the long Island rail road station. I noticed that only two postal employees would work the desk at a time and it will be a unessaary line. The customer service like in most post offices not great ! But my recent experience takes the cake . I was appealing a case to the EEOC and it was time sensitive 15 days so I decided to send it certified mail and pay 5.00 to ensure smooth delivery. Instead the address only displayed a zip code and to make it worse my sensitive paper work arrived to some mail room in zip code 10004 ? I contacted usps customer service and a person named Maurice who identified himself as a supervisor called me but could not offer me any solutions. I had to go to the location and spea to someone, and then I would receive my mail for a few days and then back with the same mess. Brooklyn post offices are pretty uniformly terrible, especially since the emergence of Amazon as a popular method of shopping. I'm old enough to remember when packages were an exception and not the norm. The system was never designed to have carriers lug around 100 boxes a day. That said, this post office can swing from super nice service to vexing in a heartbeat. The local carriers often fail to give you any notice or the yellow slip indicating a package has even been attempted. If it weren't for tracking info, sometimes I'd never even know a package was returned to sender, having never so much as appeared on my radar. And when I trudge over to the post office to do their job, depending on which employee you get, their response ranges from indifferent to 'works really hard to at least make this part of the experience a positive one and find your package.' This post office at least has a few staff like that, and if you don't go during the most popular hours of the day, your wait can be very short. I've certainly dealt with much worse post offices, so this one gets an extra star from me. read more

WHERE PACKAGES GO TO DIE. The number of packages that never get delivered, that got lost, that I've requested redelivery for and never do, or takes weeks to get delivered to me is unbelievable. I don't understand how this place is still operating. There is no working phone number. There doesn't even seem to be a manager. I've seen so many people wait in line for hours only to find out their packages are lost forever (myself included). If you somehow miss a package, don't count on being notified or seeing a slip package for it. Nope, they don't leave those either. I'd been good at avoiding this place except someone recently sent a package to my home instead of my office. Since this post office will never make any effort to redeliver anything (or even deliver the first time), I took my pink slip and began the slow, regrettable journey to the Worst Post Office in the World. I had a real Jekyll/Hyde experience here picking up my package from a woman who was sweet as could be and then dealing with different woman who yelled at me for not writing the address on a package I needed delivered. The big surprise was someone here actually giving a crap about their job and being nice for once because I always expect everybody here to be outwardly irate/indifferent to customers all of the time. SLOW! Waited 45 minutes and was treated terribly..17 people in line. The guy working the counter to the left was extremely rude and unprofessional. Once I finally got to the beginning of the line with my service dog who had a vest on (I carry papers with him, even). The man rudely told me "I needed to leave because dogs are in allowed." I told him that he was a service animal and he laughed at me, rolled his eyes. I told him that I had papers, and that legally he can't tell me to leave if I have a service animal. He then said "I don't want my manager to get mad at me so you need to get out of here as soon as possible. "So I asked him then if I could speak to the manager, because I know the manager would understand. He then told me "they're actually not here, there at the Atlantic location. " If the manager wasn't there why would he be worried they would see my service animal? I feel lied to. Also, he forgot to give me my cash back, while 17 people behind me waiting in line and were getting frustrated. I can't believe I was treated this way at the post office. I have such a busy schedule and to have to deal with this kind of harassment, when I clearly have a service animal is not acceptable. He made me feel stupid, belittled, and embarrassed.He told me "I shouldn't have argued with him" why am I being blamed for his lack of accountability, extremely slow inefficient work ethic, lack of knowledge of service animals, and not listening to my requests, but accusing me of a problem that is because of him. I do understand that these are tough times, but this is more than that-it was a terrible attitude and it was unfair to the customer. The girl that works the other counter is always extremely sweet and amazing and very helpful and fast. I'm going to avoid interacting with the other guy at all costs- people muttering in the line seem to feel the same way. :( read more

Understaffed, crowded, hot, dirty. Don't get me wrong: I like it hot and dirty, just not at the post office. Lines are always long (never seen so many people getting money orders at the same time), and I've never found more than 3 people working here, plus an employee who helps customers getting in the right line. It's beyond me why you have stamp vending machines in some post offices like the UES, but not in places where there is clearly a need for them, like Wash. Heights or Bed-Stuy. Since I moved to Bed-Stuy I also had mail not delivered to me, missing items, and stuff (TONY seems to be very popular with my mailmen), although I am not sure whether this post office rather than the mailman is responsible for that. This place deserves a single star, really, but I give an extra one for the employees, constantly understaffed and overwhelmed; it's not easy to work in these conditions. read more

Worst fucking delivery service ever!! I had redelivery scheduled for 3 items at least 3 times and they never delivered it. When I spoke to a USPS representative on the phone they said it's been held at this location for 3 days and she didn't understand why. She gave me a service request number and stated that the manager will be calling me in regards to it. When he called he said my delivery would be shipped out the next day and again I never received anything. I've tried to call this location at 1205 Atlantic Ave and the phone line is off the hook. You can't even speak with someone about issues with your packages. They need to hire new people or close the place down. read more

Ok, so hold onto your socks, because guess what? I just had the best experience at this Post Office location! Crazy, right? I came in on Sat. 12/15 at approx 12pm to pick up a package. The line was long (as always) but the actual wait wasnt too painful- roughly 15 mins. The two guys working were calling out "next in line for packages" with a welcoming fervor and when i made it to the window, they addressed me by my last name! So nice and very different from my past experiences! Thank you so much for that!! I sincerely appreciate folks in the customer service industry who are on their job!! They lost my Priority Mail item. Initially they said they had it and that it would be delivered to me. However, that was a lie. The supervisor gave some lame excuse about how it may have gotten missing. I asked who was this last person to handle the mail and she informed me that she had no way of knowing nor would they be able to find it. This post office really isn't so bad. I suspect that you just have to know when to go considering the hours. Fortunately for some of us... going in the middle of the day isn't so bad. The line can be intimidating but it goes by quickly and it also helps that they play the hits on the radio to keep you entertained. Other patrons were jammin' along while they waited to send and receive their mail. I found the gentleman who gave me my packages to be really helpful. He even disclosed information that i hadn't even thought about: I just moved to a new place and wasn't getting any mail. He told me that my letters would be available on Mondays and Wednesdays. It was also quite nice that he got my packages even though I had lost the slip that USPS left at my door. read more

Another 3 years of packages not being delivered, being reported as delivered and mysteriously missing, and me sitting at home waiting for the delivery only for them to not care enough to ring my doorbell. Now that I've had to go down to the actual post office more frequently, I can confirm that it's the worst ever. The lines are almost always over 30 minutes, one time I waited an hour because the only employee working behind the counter was on the phone with her boyfriend and she stormed out. There is no sense of anyone trying to get anything done in a timely manner, the employees all move like snails, no matter how long the line is. My boyfriend (who isn't from here) was appalled at the horrible level of service and that we've had to go to the post office twice in less than a month for a package that mysteriously disappeared and a package that wasn't delivered because we weren't home (while we were sitting at home waiting for it.) Honestly, I hate that UPS transfers some packages to the post office, because that almost never goes well. Avoid at all costs. Possibly the worst thing about this neighborhood. read more

Wednesday afternoon my friend Jim, the one with the ghetto pass, and I were super bummed about Ukrainian separatists capturing the key rail hub of Debaltseve, so we scored some MDMA and headed to the Brevoort Station U.S. Post Office in Bed-Stuy. This post office is old school. You might remember it from such classic Spike Lee works as Do The Right Thing, She's Gotta Have It, and Mountain Dew commercial starring Mo'ne Davis. The place screams early 90s street authenticity, from the Keith Haring mural in the bathroom to the fresh sounds of A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul radiating from bulky boom boxes. As known quantities in the Post Office scene, Jim and I had rolled through this joint quite a few times and were familiar with its ins and outs. But as we were vibing out to the envelope rack, sucking in those gorgeous blues and manilas, something I had never seen here before caught my eye. Mounted on the wall in a gold frame behind the shipping window was what appeared to be a rare oversized stamp measuring about one foot by 5 inches. On it was a portrait of a man drawn in rough and thick black lines on a white background. He wore the ceremonial chimere of a high-ranking Postmaster and a crown of leaves that emanated from his head like flames. I pulled out my Kobo but couldn't find anything like it in any of my stamp databases. So we asked a hunchbacked postman by the name of Borge what it was. "Ah ah ah, that is one of the rarest stamps of all. It is the Icon of Horace Maynard, history's cruelest Postmaster-General, a man so vile and dissolute he was reputed to bathe in the blood of slaughtered Pony Express horses in order to keep his silken mane soft and shiny. In 1872, Maynard commissioned the country's greatest engraver, a man by the name of Phineas Bicker, to forge such a stamp that it would soak up his sins and grow old in his stead, while he remained ever youthful and pure." In my inebriated state I could think of nothing more than how gorgeous that stamp would look hanging in my ---- chamber. Overcome by desire, my mind concocted a brilliant scheme for acquiring it. "Borge," I said. "May I please have that stamp to put in my ---- chamber?" "Absolutely not. It is on loan from the Smithsonian. Any attempt to take it would be met with extreme peril on your part. Greater men than you have tried and failed." "Who? What guys? What were their names?" "I don't know," said Borge. "I wasn't here for that. I just heard about it happening while I was catching a smoke, that's all." Jim suggested a better plan to me. He took me out back to the dumpsters, where we emptied a huge box of copies of Not That Kind Of Girl. Jim covered me in bubble wrap and fit me into the box. The ruse was complete. I looked just like a box. Jim filled in a packing slip for me and took me to the shipping window while I slept to conserve my energy. I awoke several hours later to what seemed to be a dark and empty post office. I broke out of the box, practically salivating over the thought of owning that gorgeous stamp. I crept to where it hung and turned on my keyring flashlight to find the stamp was gone! I had been double-crossed, for sure! The police would probably be here any minute to the pin this theft on me! I groped around for any hint of the painting and found only a note taped to the wall. It read, "look behind you." As I turned around, the lights came on, and a chorus of people went "Surprise!" Indeed, there had been a ruse: a ruse to surprise me with a big party to celebrate the one year anniversary of my job monitoring Instagram for nipples! Everyone I knew was there: Jim, Terry, Horace, my horrible wife, and Borge, who turned out not to be a hunchback but just a minor scoliosis sufferer. Together we feasted on cake and hot wings and danced through the night. According to the Buddha, desire is what prevents us from escaping the cycle of life and becoming the balls of energy we all want to be. In Bed-Stuy, I learned that desire can both drive men mad but also be used to trick men for party reasons. This is THE Worst USPS post office. Ever. I wish I could rate with negative stars. If you have the misfortune to have to go there, there is usually only one window of five open. The line is A-L-W-A-Y-S at least 30 minutes long. Whenever I order online, I always check to see if they use USPS. If so, I don't order. Today, I stayed home all day because I was expecting a parcel. The first time they tried delivering it, I wasn't home. They left a slip. Today, I opened the front door to discover another slip. They didn't ring the bell!!! Just left the slip. I don't have ESP. I tried to give negative stars, but apparently that's not an option on Yelp. Oh well ... maybe this USPS branch can have one star be their goal...for 2030. The staff is a bunch of MEANIES!!! Big ones. They don't realize how mean they are because they're concentrating so hard on being lazy and slow (both pace and brain activity). The more things change the more they stay the same. As soon as I posted an update, my packages stopped coming. Returns and pink slips, I assume it's the holidays, it's cold, it's winter. My wife goes down to pickup my package as an authorized agent. Is told she can't get the packages! They need my id. File two complaints with the USPS. Low and behold no callbacks, however a callback from an inspector. I'm not sure what's going on with this office but I'm hoping the hammer drops soon. Today, go down to pickup my packages and record the whole thing.. get to the window and am told I can't take photographs, of course i'm recording and wholly aware of my rights. They refuse to give me my packages until I stop recording. I stop recording, they eventually find my packages and then take a photocopy of id to send to the USPS inspector. I told them, PLEASE.. PLEASE do that. Also please do not contact Mr. Grant, he works and runs the office please contact the postal inspectors office online https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/contactus/filecomplaint.aspx or at 1-800-275-8777 the postal inspectors directly. God hates you. How do I know this you ask? Because this is your post office. I'm trying to figure out what I did to incur the wrath of the almighty. Please be warned a long rant follows. Feel free to skip to the short Pros and Cons list. This post office has caused me to decide the entire postal service deserves and should go out of business. I order a fair amount from Amazon and I'm a Prime member. That means the package should be delivered within two days. However about half the time a package goes out for delivery it doesn't get delivered that day. It then gets delivered within 1 to 3 days later. Why? I have no freaking idea. Occasionally the packages look like they backed a truck over them. Today they attempted to deliver a Prime package to the wrong zip code twice in one day! If it wasn't the right address once it won't suddenly be the right address a few hours later. Best of all they left delivery notices at the wrong address. Yeah that won't end well. This staggering incompetence applies to the mail delivery as well. Our mailman has slammed our buildings mailbox so hard that he has broken every single door on the box. I'm just waiting for them to decide they can't deliver the mail because they broke the mailbox. Letters arrive late. I often get the whole buildings mail crammed in my box cause why not? Substitutes sometimes attempt to deliver mail by shoving it through the grate leading to the utility basement despite the sign saying to bring the mail upstairs. Pros +Provides jobs for people too stupid, lazy, rude and incompetent to work anywhere else. + Sometimes by pure statistical luck they will deliver a package on time. + Mail delivery doesn't suck quite as much as the package delivery does. Cons: -Fails to deliver mails and packages in a timely manner -The rudest employees ever and I mean ever. Any other employer would fire their employees on the spot if they were this rude to customers. - They don't seem to care about where the mail goes. - They refuse to answer their phone. I've never had an issue with the United States Postal Service until I moved to this area. The special people who work for this branch have lost/stolen nearly 100% of my packages. Whenever something is shipped to me via USPS, I know it's going to be lost/stolen and might as well immediately file a claim. The one time my tracking actually said available for pickup, due to a supposed missed delivery, I spent AN HOUR AND A HALF waiting in line only to be told it couldn't be found. I was told I'd get a call regarding the package but never did. None of this came as a surprise to me, as they have lost/stolen (probably the latter) nearly all of my packages. The real surprise came when I noticed people were waiting just to exit the building, as they had locked us all in. Pretty sure that's illegal. So after waiting all that time for nothing, I had to wait longer just so I could leave. This place doesn't deserve the single star I'm forced to give it. Not worth one star! Couldn't agree more with review. I'm sure there a couple decent folks who work there..but I don't know why it's necessary to be SO RUDE. Called up there to try and resolve missing mail issue and the women had attitude before I could even tell her what my issue was. And then acted like I did something wrong because for seven months I've been receiving and suddenly all my mail was being returned. I understand we live in what might be considered underserved community but it doesn't mean people are undeserving of general customer service. This is usually a typically awful post office - I mean, they all are - but I experienced a small miracle yesterday. I actually left in under 10 minutes!! By some stroke of providence or divine mercy, they opened a package-pickup-only window, whereupon I, and two other people, jumped to action, presented our little salmon-colored slips to the lady at the window, and HALLELUJAH my package came out a few minutes later. I nearly wept. I had set aside like, an HOUR of line-waiting and frustration and countless games of Words with Friends, but I was able to jet outta there in no time. Thank you, universe. read more

Had a scheduled appointment to get a passport, but only one person was working the counter and it took him over 20 minutes just to get through 2 people. I've never even been to this post office physically and it's the worst one. Unfortunately, this is my area code, so nothing much I can do. My postal carrier is pretty polite, though today I noticed that she left one of my neighbor's mailboxes WIDE OPEN. Fortunately I came out as soon as she left and closed it. I had a package sent to me at home and it was supposed to have been delivered Monday the 5th. I was home ALL DAY and no one knocked or anything, and when I checked the tracking number, it said that a delivery was attempted just 10 minutes prior. So I scheduled a redelivery for the next day. No package. Rescheduled again for yesterday. No package. So I finally called the USPS 800 number and filed a complaint and I was told someone would call me the next day from the Bed Stuy office. Someone actually called me and said they found my package, and they pulled it and put it on the truck to be delivered. Why didn't they do this 3 days ago??? I was on the lookout all day today for the package, and was about to give up when the sun set and I saw nothing. FINALLY, at 5:50PM this evening, my f-ing package was delivered. The dude DIDN'T knock on my door or the basement door, and the ONLY reason why I heard him was because he was speaking loudly on his cell phone and I heard my mailbox open as he was about to put that stupid salmon slip into it. I ran outside and caught him, grabbed my package and went inside. Never again. I'm having everything sent to my bf's job. Ugh! read more

So I knew that my package would arrive on Thursday so I sat at home on thursday. Instead of me receiving my package I received a pink notice without the parcel number or really any other identifying information. In order to avoid, what I expected would be a fruitless redelivery process I took the trip and waited in the long line at the post office. TO my amazement my package was there, and I was able to retrieve it without an id or so much as a look in the eye from the postal worker. I feel so safe now, especially since the mail carrier leaves the box slightly ajar so anyone can reach their hand into the master slot and pull out mail from god knows who.
