I've used the UPS store a few times for returning prepaid packages and it's been fairly quick…read more It's a tiny little store and with social distancing for so long, it can be fairly uncomfortable to be in there, especially during the winter. I turned around and came back another time because I didn't like standing right next to the door for so long. It does seem like every time I have been in there, it takes quite a while to get through the line. I haven't personally had to pay for UPS shipping in there, however while I was waiting my turn, a gal was trying to ship a fairly small box, apparently filled with some sort of ice cube trays and it was going to be $36 for ground shipping! Yikes! Almost needless to say, but she left with her box in hand with those rates. Once at the counter, which took about 10 minutes with 3 people in front of me, it went quickly. I showed her the QR code and handed her the item to return. One receipt printed, she dropped it into the bag and handed me another. Easy peasy and I was out the door. Obviously this is the preferred return method for certain shippers, but with the prices, I doubt I will pay to ship anything via UPS myself and just continue to use flat rate boxes at the post office.

Many things are outside their control and they are most definitely understaffed. That being said they do work hard. To a degree they are still an entity of the United States government, nothing says "I require patience" more than the federal government. Right? I reiterate. The workers, from clerks to my carriers, are all wonderful people thrust into a challenging situation. MY STORY: If you've been to the ER P.O. in December this past year, you probably waited 2 hours plus. I know I did. 1 hour and 45 minutes in line. TWENTY MINUTES to find my package. It was much needed medical supplies and I was traveling the next day. Come to find out my box was on one of a hundred pallets for 9 days. No wonder they struggled to find it. We flew to Nevada and boxed up 23 large containers and a bowling ball to be sent back to Eagle River. We mailed six per day at the retail ground rate which is the cheapest cost available. You can also expect delivery in two weeks (they warn you it could take upwards of 30 days). Perfect! We have to fly back home and prepare space for our junkola! Fast forward to landing at Ted Stevens Tuesday night. As we pull up in our driveway we see six of the boxes have beat us home. Wait.......what? That's only 4 days! The next morning, six more parcels, as well as the next day. The first 19 packages all took 4 days from Reno. The last 4? It's been almost three weeks and they can't find the bowling ball. It hasn't checked in anywhere and we can't do anything about it for another week. Luckily, the important material all made it here, making this a most hilarious adventure. I was in need of a new passport and pleased to see online that the ER location offered appointments, albeit a couple weeks out. No biggie, I have time. I made my appointment online for mid week, a.m. and definitely made the right choice! Three people at the counter helping others and once it was my turn, I was asked to step over to one gal who takes care of them. She was helping another gentleman, being super playful and courteous, as was he. She was equally so with me as well. The process was super fast; I was in and out in about 10 minutes. I mentioned to her that this was not even remotely what I was use to at my Chugiak PO and she said 'sadly, I've heard that many times'. They could really learn something about being friendly at our location. Heck, a simple hello would be appreciated... they're rude and crotchety beyond measure. Anywho... I digress! Excellent customer service across the board in Eagle River and I noticed it with each customer that was helped.

This post office is exclusively for people with access to base and not going to lie, if you've never been here you wouldn't know where to find the post office because there are no signs. It is tucked away on the first floor of one of the buildings. The clerks at this post office are always so kind and cordial and they do not hassle you like in other post offices in town. The post office itself is nice and neat and they are always stocked with a variety of flat rate boxes, even ones that you can't find in the regular post offices. These guys really set the bar for customer service and there is hardly ever a line. What else sets this post office apart from the rest? They always have a nice welcoming bowl of dum dums lollipops. On your way out there's nothing like eating your favorite dum dum and if you're lucky you'll catch a glimpse of jets taking off.

And to those individuals, I apologize. Truly sorry. Don't hate me. I'm sure they, like me, fear that once the cat is out of the bag, they will be forced back into the long and circuitous lines that are the US Post Office of Palmer and Wasilla. Because that is the best part about this place. There is never a line. They are fast and friendly. They ONLY take cash and check (yes, you heard me correct). There is an ATM in the building. Check the picture of the hours. They open at 9 and close at 5. They are also closed from 1230-130, daily. Saturday hours are different. But skipping the line? Getting in and out so quickly? Walking less than 15 steps from your car to the counter and back? All worth it. You're welcome.
