I visited Elmhurst Post Office as I had a couple of items to send internationally that I wanted to get shipping options for. There was no line in the Post Office and I heard someone say "Next" so I approached the counter. The Post Office employee I approached was looking down at her phone watching videos which I was very surprised to see. Thinking perhaps I'd approached the wrong employee and this person was maybe on their break, I said "Excuse me, was it you that called me over?" She replied "Yes" very abruptly, without looking at me. I explained that I had a package to send and wanted to know what my options were. The employee continued to scroll through videos on her phone and barely looked up at me. She then said that it would cost $30 for up to 4 weeks delivery with no tracking. I asked her what the options would be with tracking. She replied "You need to buy a box and weigh it." It was clear that she was conveying the bare minimum of information and throughout this exchange she continued to look at videos on her phone. Still hoping to achieve what I had come in for, I explained that I knew the weight of the items I was sending was 2lbs, so it would be helpful if she could she give me a general idea of cost with tracking. I wasn't expecting a specific amount, but a ballpark estimate. She replied "I SAID that it's $30 for up to 4 weeks delivery with no tracking. Anything else you need to get a box and weigh it. I can't help you". I started to reply and she cut me off saying "I've already told you. I'm not sure why you're still standing there with all that sass asking me questions". I was shocked that a representative of USPS would be openly scrolling on their phone during work hours, especially when they are in a customer facing role. I was even more shocked that I was verbally attacked simply for asking for clarity on international shipping options. I then replied and said it felt as though she was more interested in looking at videos on YouTube than helping customers. She replied "I'm not looking at YouTube, I'm looking at Instagram and I don't know why you're still standing there." At this point I took a photo of her, knowing I would follow up with a complaint. It's clear from the two images that her whole demeanor was unprofessional. Seeing that I was taking a photo she said "Yeah, that's right, take a photo. Make sure you get my good side." I am beyond appalled that a USPS employee would be so incredibly rude and unhelpful. From the minute I walked over to the counter, I was treated with zero courtesy or professionalism, only an extraordinarily bad attitude. This is hands down the worst customer service interaction I have ever experienced. My husband who was also with me was equally horrified. I left the Post Office without having received any help whatsoever, only rudeness and insults. From reading the numerous terrible Google reviews for this location (1.7 stars out of 197 reviews) as well as Yelp (1.5 stars out of 83 reviews) it is clear that this was from from a one off incident. It cannot be the norm that government employees are able to conduct themselves this way. It's truly a disgrace. Not only was I not helped, but I was obstructed. I will have to FedEx the package instead because I'd rather pay extra money and have a professional service. We often hear about the plight of the USPS and how precarious its future is, but if this is the standard that staff are maintaining then it's not really a surprise.

    1. There's always only one or two ladies working throughout the day with a line out the door - just to pick up a package, one has to wait an hour or two. 2. I have constantly signed a package release to leave my package at the door of my apartment but they still leave a slip. I've even caught the mailman and asked him why he was leaving a slip since the package is supposed to be delivered today (first attempt) and why he doesn't have the package with him. he said they're not allowed to just leave it at the door but when I explained I have released the package but he has nothing to say.

So instead of bringing the package up to the correct floor or at least the second floor and not on the ground floor we wouldn't be getting our packages stolen. Yes sadly and originally you are not obligated to so but, it would be nice if the whole company understood that to do a splendid job( said by all your customers)and would be appreciated if as said to bring the packages upstairs instead if having to worry if the package was stolen or not after delievery. My package was small an ornament was in it and it was returned a couple of times to you guys and never arrived officially. I had to get a refund from etsy. This easily could have gone into the mailbox. I have pillows coming too and idk if they will be abandoned because one of the delivery guys may leave it in the mail area or downstairs where it can be easily taken and that's not a job well done.

This post office is always a shitshow. Though not as bad as some of the ones I have experienced in…read morethe Bronx. There is always a huge line and only a few windows open. The line to pick up packages can be very chaotic with no system whatsoever in place. It's come to the point where I would get Amazon packages sent to the locker at the 711 instead of to my address and risking it being sent through the post office and then having to go pick it up. One thing that is really not the post office fault is that there are a lot of people sending packages overseas so it's a bit more time consuming to process. I wish they would have express counter for package drop offs like UPS and Fedex has. I'm sure there are a lot of people who just want to drop off a prepaid package and end up in line as the people who need more service.

Another update in regards to my stolen package- Long story…read moreshort, I had a package earlier this year that was supposedly "misdelivered" by my local USPS driver. Our building's security footage proves he was never around at the time of the incident, nor was any package ever left. I was also able to check with all of our neighbors and they didn't receive it either. So one way or another, this driver falsified a gps scan. Even before this incident, he has had a bad reputation of repeatedly losing our building's key (conveniently right around the same time mail goes "missing") and destroying our packages. Management here has been told about these issues time and time again. They don't give a damn. All that to say, I just received an email from USPS claiming they're now closing my missing package request. This happened earlier this year and now all of a sudden, they're refusing to even keep that open? I'm pissed. First they cover up this guys blatant felony, lie about sending a carrier to pick up this supposedly 'misdelivered' package and now I'm getting punished for exposing this? I can't stand this post office or anything it represents. I'm warning you, don't trust them. There's a real criminal side to this place and they are not being held accountable.
