Passport service sucks. . My infant has an appointment for 2:45pm to 3pm passport application. Nobody at the passport window when we arrived. I fall in line in the other window which took me couple of minutes for the line and by that time we were in front of window no. 2 at 3:07pm which the staff told me the one sitting on the passport window already left. The is my least favorite post office I think I've ever visited. The lines are extremely slow and oftentimes, the line grows faster than customers are being serviced. They open at 9AM, but I once waited until 9:20 for the postal workers to start taking customers, with no explanation. I also once was severely questioned about why a package I was picking up had my moms name, instead of mine, despite me having my ID, a copy of my mothers ID, and mail with both of our names with the exact address on it, that matched the package name and address. I ALSO had a copy of the order, with the tracking number to match as proof, that I showed them on the phone. I'm talking rapid fire questions about why I didn't cancel the order, why was the wrong name used, why not re order. Just give me my package that I have ample proof for. The kiosks, which is self serve, is probably the most helpful thing about this location. The only issue is, if the package is too big to fit through the slot for drop off, they will make you wait on line (I've had a few times they'll take it through the window - really all depends on their mood for the day). I had this exact issue today and I took my package home because no way was I going to wait on a 45 minute + line for a five second interaction. My package was labeled and ready to go and all I needed was for a worker to take it from me, no receipt needed. When I was able to flag down a worker from the back who wasn't servicing customers, I was told to wait on the line that was literally, to the door. I contacted USPS, who called me back and they told me, yes they are supposed to take it if it's ready to go, but somehow this location hasn't gotten the memo. read more

Since the Elmhurst Post Office closed due to flooding, customers are diverted to other post offices within the vicinity. The closest one within walking distance is the one located in Jackson Heights. When I walked in there was a long line but it moved. Staff was helpful and friendly. There was a line to apply to get passport which did not seem to move as well. Had no idea about this service at this location. Will be back again to use their services. read more

I been coming to this Post Office for over 20 years, very nice and clean, needs improvement in decor and up grading, the staff are very proffesional and management is hands on. I even have a Post Office Box even thought the price was raised from 40 to 60 + even thiught I had it for over 10 years, they should have discount for loyal customers, but its the USPS, I do trust them with my mail and packages and they are very help full better then Fed Ex and UPS. read more

It is almost like they don't care... the staff is slow and they seem like to be very unhappy with their job. sometimes i see one or another employee who are in a good mood but most of the time the mood here is of unhappiness and annoyance. even if you have your pre paid packages with the already printed label and packed most places you could just come in and drop it, but not here! here u have 2 broken boxes so we need to be in the line with everyone and sigh at the broken drop off boxes. it is very depressing to have to come here every time i need to send a box out, the worse part is that it seems like nobody cares or tries to make it better, fix the drop ff boxes or make sure that people that have their stuff ready do not need to stand on the line. it is very rare to see a human here who cares. super sad but true... read more

I am here now. Loooong line, one window open. On a *Saturday afternoon*. There is another window with someone standing behind it doing... who knows what. Not a good look when people are waiting on a line that is not moving. Disgraceful. HORRIBLE service. Despite the long line, the woman behind the ONE open window took care of people who had just walked in before those who had been waiting. She did this just before I walked up to the window, and as I walked away when I was done with my transaction, she did it again with another customer who had just walked in. OMG!!! Had the worst experience today. Thank you Amber for ruining my trip to the post office today!!!! Man, talk about being unhappy and unfriendly. If you hate your job, don't pass that attitude towards the customer!!!! All I did was ask if I had enough postage on the package I was mailing out and then came the attitude with smart ass remarks. I hate coming to this Post Office but it is the only one in the neighborhood. Amber is just one of the rude workers that works there. I wish someone can do something about the unhappy workers and replace them with some happier workers. I am going to start using those ATM mail machines. Let's be real here. What post office anywhere in NYC deserves more than 3 stars?! The sad answer is: none. In comparison to other post offices I've been to in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens, this is better than many others. However, I have a few incidents that have forced me to ask whether workers here are qualified. One of the most recent interactions was when I sent a 49 lb media mail box. YES, I admit it is SUPER HEAVY and may sound unreasonable, but I work in education and I need to send a million books to my next destination. I've been sending them in tiny boxes but I needed to get it over with; thus I went to send my last 49 lb box full of books. I place the box onto the counter and immediately the worker complains to me, "You can't send a box this heavy; someone will get hurt." Without asking someone for help, the worker tries to slide the box over then aims badly into the large container, then proceeds to scream. Workers shuffle over to offer help. Then, more complaints towards me. First of all, I don't think there is a limit. Second, maybe you are saying YOU will get hurt because you are not fit and strong enough to carry that box. Last, I checked qualifications for post office workers and you should be able to carry 70 lbs. I can't send a box full of books because it's too heavy for YOU and YOU will get hurt...? It's about time to work somewhere else in a quiet office that does not require physical work. read more

Longest lines + slow employees = everyday situation at this office. Shortest wait time 15 minutes, longest 1 hour+. I usually try to ship with UPS on 83rd and Roosevelt. I generally only buy stamps for bills. But I bought something online that needed to be returned with USPS. Yes, they have self-serve kiosks, but the population of jackson heights includes newcomers and the elderly who do not know how to use the machines. Provide education to use these elements or staff appropriately. To echo another Yelper, now wonder the USPS is losing crazy money. Also, if you create a self-serve station, than make sure your stocking boxes, envelopes throughout the day so people could actually use them. Almost every thin I go there, the drop boxes are full. That is sometimes understandable but when I tried to put my box in, and it got stuck, the lady refused to go and check it for me and make sure my box was deposited correctly and that the chute was clear for other people as well. She had a horrible attitude, was rude and unhelpful, and I had waited in the line too, it's not like I just asked without waiting. There was a lady with her headphones on behind one of the stations, and I tried to politely get her attention initially but she chose to ignore me. I was polite and nice but she ignored me. Also, the post office has like 6 stations, but only one was open, only one worker to help the public. The rudeness and attitude is in my opinion, unforgivable, unreasonable, and just makes people upset, like myself. Nobody helped me to dislodge my package from the chute so I just left it there and went home. Horrible horrible customer service there today. I'm optimistic and thinking that there are other workers there that are nice and helpful but these to ladies there today were the absolute worst!! I was there at about 10:40 on February 8th if the management reads this. If the post office manager reads this and cares, please improve your customer experience and make sure that when someone says that the chutes are full, that they get cleared out and especially if a customer has a package stuck in the chute!! Lived in the area for 3 years now.... this is the first Christmas 1 out of 4 packages was delivered to me, the rest was "undeliverable", which we all know is a pack of lies. An employee named Angela was sitting at her window counting up her drawer! I asked her if she would please take in the postage paid package and she said NO,wait on the line! I asked if she was kidding and with a smug smile she again repeated Wait on the line! I counted 34 people on the line! This post office is the worst and must be a reflection of the manager!
