USPS has a horrible reputation, and dealing with this location, I'm sad to say they deserve every bit of it. I don't know if their staff are abused, but they all behave as if they are forced to be there and saddled with the worst work in the world, with rewards for moving as slowly as possible. Their drivers try and find any shortcut they can too, like leaving sensitive packages at the curb when we have a 100-foot driveway and it's a 100+ degree day. Once in a great while, they'll surprise me by, sorry to say, doing their job effectively. But I always assume the worst, because more often that not, that's what I get. It's too bad, too. I think sending a letter across the country in 3 days for 50 cents, give or take, is pretty cool. It's just that anything requiring effort is too much for them to handle. read more

Went yesterday to pick up a package that needed to be signed for. My experience was ok. Line moved quickly. Lady who helped me wasn't entirely friendly or welcoming but did her job. Friendliness of staff is hit or miss. Got my package. It was in good condition so it was handled properly. Interior looked pretty tattered up but still clean. Probably not enough government dollars going into the aesthetics of postal offices. I had my passports done here years back and that, too, was a decent experience. Parking is plentiful here. No complaints, per se, but also nothing to earn anything more than a three-star rating from me. I do greatly appreciate our hard-working, consistent, and friendly mail carriers who deliver our mail and packages to our mailbox and front door (when applicable) with care. read more

Horrible service! Sent my package back to sender in Philippines before 2 weeks passed. 2 weeks is a ridiculous timeline and that includes closed days , including holidays, like the 4th of July week. Talked to Juan Rivas manager who tried to blow me off and said there was nothing he could do about it. Tried to send me to their lost package tracker, as a way to get me to leave. I attempted to do this while I was there and this service was useless. Also told me he would call me back with an update but never did. This location never delivers certified packages. Twice for 6 month, they dropping the piece of paper in to the mail box and telling me to come and pick up a letter. WORST POSTAL OFFICE I HAVE EVER BEEN TO. I wasn't home to pick up my package, So I called to make sure my package was there. They said yes ma'am feel free to come by to grab it. So I did, and it was no where to be found. It wasn't there. The man wouldn't even attempt to figure out where it was, he told me there was nothing he could do which is a huge load of bullshit. A package I paid $100 for was just lost and no where to be found. The man who was helping me when I got there said he asked everyone and no one saw it anywhere. I have always had good experiences at my usual post office. This particular location, however, I don't normally use. I am recovering from surgery and temporarily disabled. Today I presented to an Asian gal at the counter around midday with a retail return; I had the postage paid return label printed and everything. All I needed was a strip of tape to secure the box lid. I have always secured my own parcels so I didn't think this was much to ask. Standing there behind the counter, acting like she hates life, she hastily pointed to their retail area and states, "you can buy tape." Made me sad that the human element is no longer. Maybe she was just having a bad day? I just didn't think it was a lot to ask. Disappointing. read more

The Post Office at 1157 W. Mission Ave. encapsulates all the reasons why the American Postal System is failing. My abysmal treatment by the incompetent staff at this office began when our companies regular postal delivery man refused to deliver our mail to the correct area of our office building. His argument was essentially that, because he had gotten away with delivering to an incorrect location of the building for so long (and the original delivery location was about a dozen steps further), we had to continue accepting deliveries, under his conditions, in the incorrect area of our building. On the last day that he chose to deliver, he yelled and thrust a mail bin at me. I reported the issues to the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) which then forwarded them to Daniela, the Customer Services Supervisor at the Mission Ave. Post Office. Eventually, Daniela called me, leaving a voicemail and phone number to return her call. I attempted calling several times that day and several more times the next day until she finally answered (there is no voicemail). She then began her loud monologue, telling me that we had no choice but to leave our office unsecured by being unlocked even when staff was not present and patient information is in the office as she talked over me any time that I tried to say anything, and then repeatedly accused me of being angry. It quickly became apparent trying to logically resolve the issue with Daniela was completely unproductive so I asked for her supervisor's name and number. She stated Todd McArthur was her supervisor and proceeded to provide me with the number that I had just dialed to return her call. I explained that I wanted HIS number. She replied that is the only number that they have. I shared that I had to call that number several times, over a two day period until she had finally answered to which she replied, "I always answer when I'm in the office". I said that I never said she didn't answer when she was in the office, I said that no one answered during the many times that I had called that number over a period of two days. I also reiterated that I didn't want to reach her, I wanted to reach Todd. After going in a circle over this at least twice (she clearly didn't understand the problem with their lack of access), I gave up and asked her to provide Todd with my number so that he could call me. When Todd McArthur, Post Master General at the Escondido facility on Mission Ave., called a few days later, I provided him with my account of the incident that was witnessed by another coworker. He ignored the post man's inappropriate behavior, ultimately agreed that the delivery location needed to be changed but adamantly opposed delivery in the original location (because, although the postman had inappropriately changed the delivery location, it was now closer to where he parked than the original delivery location -huh?). He wasn't supposed to change the location, but he did so now we are stuck with it. Todd's solution was that he would have a postal box installed on our property in two weeks and, in the interim, he would call me on Thursdays to coordinate a weekly mail delivery. It is now four weeks later, we have no postal box, I have received no phone calls from Todd, and we have received no mail deliveries. I again contacted the Office of the Inspector General for help, after waiting for 30 minutes on hold prior to a live person answering my call, I explained everything that had happened and asked if there was someone else they could refer me to help. Their answer was to attempt a three-way call with Todd. They called the Mission Ave. Post Office, and determined Todd was on vacation but they had Daniela on the call now so she could take a message for Todd. -It sure must be nice to field all the complaints against oneself; a bureaucratic circle run by a useless department with the postal system (OIG) and the incompetent staff at the USPS on Mission Ave. in Escondido where nobody is help accountable. I would just like to include the disclaimer that the service from my personal, local Post Office is absolutely impeccable. They have always been friendly, efficient and accommodating; nothing like the miserable staff on Mission Avenue. Until such time that this office gets their act together, our company will perform the postman's job by having one of our drivers pick our mail up from the Post Office. read more

I was waiting on a package yesterday (August 15, 2012) that never came. Which I totally understand because there was road construction going on on my road, and the city totally blocked off my driveway where my mail box is. That's a given that I wasn't going to get my mail. BUT my issue is that the Mail person SCANNED my package as DELIVERED AUGUST 15, 2012... WHICH i know damn well that my package was not delivered because of the road work. I get that they don't want to get out of the car to deliver the mail when there's construction going on. I totally get that. BUT DON'T scan my packages as delivered when in all actuality it was NOT delivered. They didn't even attempted to redeliver it TODAY!! WTF?! So I had to call the main USPS office to file a claim. Then called this local office to notify them that they totally screwed up. At least the customer service seemed like he was trying to help me. I mailed a package to my daughter in connecticut. I was told it would arrive either Saturday or Monday. Well today is Tuesday and she still has not received the package. I tried to track it but their tracking system is having problems. I was expecting a check which I desperately needed. I had to call the sender to ask if it had been mailed and they verified that it had. ELEVEN days after the postmark date, I find it in my mailbox with no explanation. Mailed from the same city I live in too... A few weeks ago, my out-going mail was never picked up from my mailbox. It wasn't a holiday and I had to take it to the post office since it was already one day late. I experienced no pick-up scans and had to leave a note to the carrier that I want all mail scanned. My husband and I came in to mail a letter. We noticed that the post office was kept very clean and the employees were very kind and helpful.

If I could give this facility a negative star rating I would. It is disorganized, filthy, poorly supplied but MOST importantly the clerks are consistently & exceptionally rudein response to even the most minor question. As an example, one of several dozen I could cite. I asked the other day for a small piece of tape to help secure an adhesive label of theirs that kept peeling of. I know they do keep scotch tape in the post office. The clerk refused and when I noticed tape at the clerks cubicle next to him and asked if I may have a piece he said and I quote "I don't know you will have to get back in line and ask him! " This is someone not assisting anyone who is less than 3 ft away and he would not turn his head to ask and help a customer. This is a matter of course at this facility Save yourself the grief and head to Carmel mountain. They are superb and helpful! read more

I brought a package that was mistakenly delivered to our house and I had to pay for a package. The supervisor was very nice and helpful. Everyone is nice at this post office but the wait is always long if you go after 4. If you go on a Saturday they are not really open unless picking up a package.
