One such task was to get his mail, bills and medical inquires forwarded to our address in Sun City. On Thursday, May 7th at 2:30PM, my wife and I went to the Post Office in Central Square, NY as that was his legal residence mailing address. We had the "wonderful" experience of talking to the lady behind the desk who either hated her job, didn't want too be there or hated waiting on customers from out of town with questions that she had no idea how to answer them. She took the Change of Address form, that we had filled out, tossed it back across the counter at us, and very arrogantly told us that "we needed some official paperwork declaring me as Executor or Distributor of my brother's affairs". Fair enough, as my brother had no Will. The next day we went to the Surrogate Court in Oswego, NY. there, the very kind lady, Cheryl Blake, explained that all we needed was to show the Postal Clerk in Central Square was the Death Certificate with my name on it as Distributor, which I did have in my possession. Back to Central Square on Friday, May 8th at approximately 2:30PM and Miss Personality was there once again. No Postal Service name tag and no Postal Service shirt on or any identification at all. Convenient, isn't it? This time I attempted to show her the Death certificate when she leaned across the counter, pointed her finger at me and said "Look, I told you yesterday that you needed a document from the Court AND a letter from your attorney, notarized, that declares you as the Executor". First off, she never mentioned the attorney part and the Surrogate Court clerk said all I should have to show her was the Death Certificate, with my name on it as the Distributor. So, none of that worked. On Monday, May 11th, we picked up all the paperwork at the Surrogate Court, visited the Empower Credit Union, Donna Cook, in Oswego, visited the State Farm Insurance Agent, Chris Nelson, in Oswego and then on to the Post Office in Oswego at approximately 11:30AM, where we were greeted and helped by a young lady, Kelly. I wish I had her last name. The young lady was wearing an official Postal Service shirt WITH her name on it. Kelly showed more caring and genuine concern for our situation that we had expected. For a young lady, Kelly showed more professionalism and personality than the clerk in Central Square will ever have. Kelly, very patiently, helped us through the paperwork, apologized several times for the experience we had in Central Square. Kelly sent the completed Change of Address paperwork, Court Documents and all necessary information to the Central Square Post Office so we did not have to deal with that person again. As of today, May 21st, we have not received one piece of my brother's mail yet. Is it possible that Miss Congeniality is holding or destroying it for spite? I would not doubt it at this point.
I truly hope that this review gets to the right personnel, not just a YELP Review, and something is done to correct this terrible customer service in Central Square, NY.
So, for a STAR Rating to the Central Square, NY Postal Clerk, A BIG FAT ZERO!!!!!
But, for Kelly, the Postal Clerk in Oswego, NY, 5 STARS MINIMUM. Kelly is a credit to the USPS.
Thank You Kelly.
