Excellent post office. I came in here to drop off a package for my eCommerce business while I was traveling for a software engineering congregation activity at their local university. People are nice, friendly, efficiently working, and do great work comparatively to many other USPS offices I have seen or drop mail and packages off at. Wisconsin is awesome. Yikes! Looking at some of the past reviews I wonder if I've just been lucky. I live pretty close to this location so I frequent it and have had very positive experiences. I'm usually in and out in a few minutes, and the service is great. I'm not expecting a ton at the post office - The employees are professional, efficient and get the job done! I came on December 15 or 16... Cutting it a bit close! Granted there was a long line, but things moved right along and I was pleased at how quickly I was able to send my packages out. Also, during the pandemic I have been pleased with the social distancing efforts. Bonus: The doors are automatic so you can be almost no-touch (You do have to touch the little machine to pay and answer the typical questions when shipping.). Parking is easy too. I usually have good service here but Bernard was not a good customer service skills basically puts me out of line and tells me I'm going on brake so then I had to wait for knext person to help me when he already started helping me. Not happy at all. The person kept going somewhere after talking to the couple she was helping and they were certainly having a great time, laughing and talking. After over 20 minutes, I had to leave with my pkg. I had a piece of mail gone missing and I get informed delivery and when I spoke to the woman at the Milwaukee Street phone number she gave me a phone number to contact someone at my direct and ask for delivery and it was a nonworking number how unprofessional is that just to get rid of a phone call that you give them a bullshit number read more

The longest line I've waited in at a post office in a decade. There were three stations open and our interaction took literally less than two minutes even though we were mailing a package, but overall everything ahead of us moved at a snail's pace. It's hard to say if it was because of the tellers or the customers. We went mid-afternoon on a weekday so I'm not sure what the holdup was; it wasn't a weekend or the lunch rush. There is a passport office if you need that service, but in general I'll avoid this location. Three stars for being conveniently located across from Woodman's and for our individual experience being quick and easy once we got to the counter, but the overall experience was more of a two - it shouldn't take over 30 minutes to mail one box with a full staff and five people ahead of you in line. read more

The Post Office. Under scrutiny by greedy people; appreciated by the locals. Not many people know that the Post Office is non-profit and not one thin dime of your tax dollars goes to towards it. Nope. They make their money from STAMPS. Dig that. I went in today to mail off a package someone bought from me on eBay and my wait time was all of 10 minutes. Whether you love it or hate it, I enjoy the convenience. For less than half the price of the private industry delivery options, I can have my package there in 2 days; lickety-split. This afternoon, three out of the four windows were open and all was right with the world. They're helpful, they smile (when I'm here) and they hire Veterans (a lot of them) -- so, what's not to love? read more

The folks at this location are really good. Even during the busy holiday season, they're willing to help you out with whatever you need to get done, and in the most cost-effective way. Normally going to the post office is a hassle, but I don't dread going here -- the employees are friendly and really do want to help. read more

If I could rate this location with zero stars I would. Every single time that I go to this location regardless of what time of day it is, the employees seem frustrated and unhappy to be working. They come off as rude and disrespectful, not willing to help or put a smile on their face when attending their customers. The man that just sold me a stamp to mail an envelope, caught an attitude because I didn't hear him mumble "55 cents" and when I smiled and ask him to repeat himself because i didn't hear him. Not many people will tell you they feel great about their post office but that's exactly how I feel about this branch. To save on money we decided to send out post cards as wedding invites instead of regular letters, in addition we decided to make our own postcards. Only after making 200 of them did we realize that the post office has SPECIFIC regulations for postcard size. They arn't trying to be mean, it's just that the computer scanner and slots are only made for that size. So we brought all of our postcards in and asked the lady what we could do. She said that she would hang on to them and HAND STAMP them and put them in the correct slots herself. She saved the wedding! read more

This main site's longer hours are ideal for patrons, with the desk open till 7pm most days. But you wouldn't know the desk workers are putting in long hours as they are surprisingly approachable, perky, and willing to laugh a bit while helping you out. And I believe this location leaves the lobby and access to PO Boxes open 24/7 which is a bonus. read more

I am always pleased with the speed and efficiency of the staff at this post office, which I visit frequently. There are lines at times, but rarely because of lack of available service windows. The serpentine routing of the line seems to have a calming effect on people. Always a smiling, often joking staff member leaves me with a smile. Passport process is super easy. Make an appointment. Walgreens will take a quick photo of you with the white backdrop as an acceptable photo. Easy on the smiling in your photo. I'm serious! Just follow the directions. Print your form online ahead of time. A side note: Best and latest place to go to drop a letter. This is the main office in Madison and if you missed the outgoing mail time at other boxes around the area, go to this main office to get your letter out. I remember my parents doing this at tax time to make sure their letter was postmarked to avoid late penalties. read more

There are usually long lines to get to the counter because they are short staffed. Also, the passport office has very limited hours. And I don't appreciate them sending all of my mail to Milwaukee first especially when I am sending something here in the same city. read more

I have been mailing for my small business for 12 years and when dropping off prepaid mailpieces (Express) I have always been able to wait in line and then receive a paper receipt for the Prepaid Mailpiece Acceptance showing the tracking numbers and the time scanned in (time accepted). In fact this NEEDS to be done prior to 7 PM at the window in order for the USPS Express Mail Time Commitment to be honored and for the consumer to get a refund for possible Express Mail failure(s). I have recently in fact confirmed with the Consumer Affairs people at 414-287-2530 that this is in fact Standard Operating Procedure. There are several surly and unfriendly clerks at the retail window at the Milwaukee St branch in Madison who are refusing to do Standard Operating Procedure in this regard. They refuse to do anything more than grab my Express packages and throw them in the back where they say they will eventually be scanned. I know that either way the packages will go out that day on the truck. That is not the issue at all. The issue is that they are, in the rudest manner possible, shockingly so and in front of my children, in fact rude enough so as to be grounds for disciplinary action, in my opinion, they are refusing to scan the packages in prior to 7 PM, for example if I am there at 6:45 PM, and refusing to provide me with the receipt that shows all the pieces have been accepted, and their tracking numbers and times accepted. Now this is the worst part. The USPS Consumer Affairs office had thanked me for informing them that the clerks at Milwaukee Street branch were refusing to do their job, and told me "we need people like you to help us keep our people on their toes." I asked what to say if they try to do this to me again at this branch - the consumer affairs person told me to tell them that the Retail Unit faxed them the SOP on Sept 7 or 8 and it said they must scan these Express Mails in for me and give me the receipt. The other day I was again denied proper service by a very rude "Connie" at the Milwaukee St retail window. When I told them it was SOP and about the fax, they denied everything. My son was with me and after he mentioned to me that "Connie" snickered and scoffed at me at least 4 separate times during my interaction with her. I am sickened that my young child has to see this blatant display of disrespect from postal employees and I had to use the opportunity to teach him about good/bad work ethics. read more

Wonderful service. I came to this post office today with ten heavy boxes and the postal workers didn't blink an eye! They kindly gave me a cart to bring the boxes in and were so nice. As I was waiting for them to process my boxes I listened to the other workers and they were accommodating and cheerful. How refreshing! read more
