This post office is hard to spot. Looks like just a building. Maybe they should do something with those windows. It is quite large inside and spacious. There is a large bin for pre-paid packages placed in the center. They do have pre-paid service kiosks. Service was ok, a little slow. They did have 2 lovely holiday displays. read more

From outside it doesn't look like USPS. I almost walked pass by it. Really big inside. They have self service kiosk for ship packages, mail letters etc. Another station for self pick up package. Staff is nice. Overall a good location. read more

People are people, right? And if they're consistently crabby and unhelpful, there's probably a reason not their fault -- overworked, maybe, have a mean manager, or maybe rightfully irked by privileged customers. But whatever the reason, the Astor branch Post Office is consistently AWFUL -- unnecessarily rude, and unhelpful. This is not about one person having a bad day. Examples: - I brought in a box sealed with duct tape (it's strong!). I knew that is taboo, so I made sure to over-wrap it with many layers of ordinary clear tape. That DID make the box acceptable, but I got scolded like a 5 year old anyway. The clerk was sooooo wanting to refuse the package. - when submitting a box with a prepaid label, you're supposed to get a chance to put in your email address to get a receipt. Most clerks prevent you from accessing that -- despite the place having almost no business, they don't want to wait while you put in your email. - I was waiting for a package addressed to me at a local mail service -- an address 2 blocks away that the Post Office must visit multiple times a day (I've been getting mail there for over 20 years). No matter. The Post Office claimed they tried to deliver at 6:30am (long before the place is open) and took it back to the Post Office; then refused to re-attempt delivery. When I went to pick it up the clerk without even looking at my printout (with tracking info from the website) rushed passed me, and said "we don't take payments here!". I explained I was not there to make a payment. I could go on.... Not EVERYONE was a petulant ass, treating customers like they are an imposition, and other Post Offices in the area are consistently MUCH better. This is not about the Post Office generally - it is about this branch. Horrors! Avoid it if you can. read more

The lady that tries to "help" people as they're waiting on line has absolutely no respect or patience for customers. Totally understand that some folks in customer service are annoyed at dumb questions, people not paying attention, etc. It can be frustrating, But this is a people related service job, you have to interact with customers, after all they are using the Postal service. And when that becomes uncomfortable or inconvenient, they will resort to finding other venues. That's business. I'm not looking for sunshine and rainbows, but I dread going to this location, the attitude and dismissive demeanor of the folks working the stations are toxic. I mailed something priority mail. The person at the counter asked me if is see earphones, and I said no. I looked on the floor too. Then she charged me. No eyecontact, that is ok, I have autistic friends. Aggressive tone of voice that is ok too. I asked where the tracking # is on my receipt. She said "on the receipt" I asked "where on the receipt" and she repeated "on the receipt " a few times, this time in a very nasty tone. I have a neurological and this made it harder for me to focus on the letters on the long receipt. As I stood there looking for it, she continued telling me "on the receipt" in a nasty way, raising her voice. All because I didn't find her earephones. Maybe she was angry that I didn't crawl around the floor looking for them Or run to a store to get her another pair. I wish she gets her earphones! I can't say enough positive things about this post office, and especially when compared to most others. I went there yesterday and the staff were *superb*. In particular; a woman named Paula who I suppose could be referred to as a roving clerk, as she was greeting everyone in line and providing any needed information. I spoke to her at greater length after making my purchases and she has a *terrific* personality; incredibly friendly and also a great sense of humor. There's another wonderful person working there - Dylan - who's the supervisor of the clerks. It turns out that he's done all of the decorations at that post office (not only beautiful holiday decorations, but also a lot of items on the wall behind the clerks). On Saturday afternoon 3-18-22, the kind-hearted team and supervisor, nancy helped me retrieve a priority delivery that was missing in transit in the nick of time. I use this post office a lot, and I generally have an acceptable experience. However, there are a couple women behind the counter who hate their jobs and the public. If you hate dealing with the public, maybe don't take a public-facing job, and if you're a supervisor, maybe supervise your employees into not being hateful to the customers. read more

I called my local post office (10003) about two packages that weren't delivered and both tracking shows "Delivered, Parcel Locker". I called to inquire about where this parcel locker was to pick up. Alice Vasquez proceeded to tell me that there was no such thing as a parcel locker. I told her my package was extremely important and she told me that my packages were NOT important because they weren't mailed importantly. I proceeded to tell her just because something she doesn't think is important to her does not mean it's not important to me. I run a small minority business in New York, and the packages that I'm missing is causing me a loss of thousands a dollars a day because I don't have those parts in my possession to fix our espresso machine. I asked her if she could help track down the "Parcel Locker" and she told me to find other solutions. This is the poorest customer service I have ever received. She was speaking in a rude and unprofessional manner and raising her voice over the phone over a package I was trying to locate. Is it not her job to help me track down the package instead of telling me my package is unimportant and to "find other solutions"? I'm speaking with her manager Dennis Wong who I hope has better customer service and can be more helpful. Being in hospitality myself, I would never condone this type of behavior or attitude if my employees ever spoke to customers in this manner. read more

As long as the US Postal Service hasn't yet been rebranded as an Amazon fulfillment center, I'm happy to come here. It's like taking a step into the near distant past, where there are still some drab, functional government entities left, with no advertisements on the walls, workers who receive actual pensions, and no visible militarized security guards. The line moves relatively quickly and the postal workers are helpful. I tend to drop off huge mailings from my nonprofit day job, which has to be done via a one-inch slot (because, terrorism). One time it was suggested that I certify my passport application, but my parents in the burbs were told that wasn't necessary, so I went the cheaper route and everything worked out. read more

Brenda, with the short red hair, called me "lazy" today to her coworker while I was standing right there for using a label maker to label my mail. When I called her out for it, she asked me if I "missed my therapy appointment today." Got her supervisor who said there were "two sides to every story" as if it is ever justified to talk that way to a customer (or anyone) who did nothing to you. Complained he was in the middle of a meeting as if it is my fault Brenda insulted me and projected her need for therapy. I know the post office is infamous for how poorly it functions. But this particular post office takes the cake. First, I almost lost my apartment while I was away because the office neglected to forward my mail for 4 months! Then a deluge hit my cousin all in one day. She thought she was Bruce Springsteen! And recently, they have lost two checks that came from a notoriously inefficient payroll office. I know the checks were in the mail because their images appeared in my morning email from the post office. But the checks never arrived in the snail mail. It's virtually impossible to get this payroll company to reissue checks. I fear I'll just never see that money. As for the losers at 10003? They simply refer me back to the issuer to send another check as if they aren't to blame for losing my money. Incredible. read more

I've been a NYC resident for 37 years and until recently an East Village resident for 20, so I've seen more than my share of rudeness and craziness. The supervisor at this post office is without question the worst employee in a service industry I've ever encountered any where in the world, and I travel extensively. It's apparent that the employees are under tyrannical rule, and I honestly feel bad for them. This isn't based on one encounter as I've seen him berate customers before and his attitude is hateful and disrespectful. There's more I could say but this is a family show. Makes me glad to be out of the EV if only to not have to deal with this world class prick. If anyone from the USPS sees this you don't have to wonder why business is bad if you're employing people like this. Thank you to the NICE employee who answered my simple question with courtesy and professionalism. I hope she can retire soon, she deserves better. Avoid this office when at all possible. They steal packages. Came there with a brand new authentic Louis Vuitton bag to ship to an ebay buyer and was stupid enough to ask for a box from an employee named Paula. Long story short, the bag disappeared the next day after it was scanned as accepted although I shipped it with express (overnight delivery) and it was supposed to be in Texas within less than 24 hours. It was accepted, and that was it. Cried over it so many times as I didn't insure the item and had to refund the buyer (she never got the item, they confirmed it at usps in Texas). If you see any of usps employee from Cooper station who wears a black crossbody Louis Vuitton bag in leather with logos all over it in small size with three striped compartments inside of it like on pictures, please be aware that this person STOLE my bag. I attached the pictures and identification code for my bag as well. People who ship it with usps - please do not do it. This is not a general rating for this post office. There are some problems, actually: I regularly get mail that should have been delivered 70 blocks to the north, in a different zip code. But this review is for Paula. I arrived at this post office 2 minutes before closing time yesterday afternoon and had to send a letter certified/return receipt. The staff were understandably in a rush to get home because it was getting colder and colder (it was already 18, with a forecast low of 9), so I was given quick instructions for how to set up a letter to be sent certified on my own and use one of the self-service machines, but I had never done that on my own and was messing it up. Paula took the time - at this point, after hours - to show me how to do it right and took care of it, at the same time telling me to arrive earlier next time, and that she would lock the door to me the next time. That was very nice of her, as it took a few minutes, and she certainly didn't have to do it. I greatly appreciate her help and will definitely make sure to show up earlier the next time I have to send a certified letter or do something else that's a bit complicated for me. read more

I have never written a good review of a post office ....but as they say, there is always a first time. I have lived in NYC for over 22 years and it only recently that I started going to this post office (when I say recently I mean in the last year). I have always used the terrible 23rd Street branch - bad experiences too numerous to mention and some documented here. This week was my fourth time going to this location and I have to say this is my favorite post office. It is big and bright and there are always enough staff on duty to handle demands - unlike the previously mentioned 23rd street. I have used this location to pick up wrongly addressed packages (that was only stressful on the telephone at the office everything went perfectly smoothly) and to mail international and domestic packages. The staff here are great and it certainly helps to make going to the post office a less daunting task. read more

This actually might be the best post office ever. I wouldn't advocate coming here to hang out or anything, but if you have any postal needs, this is the spot. Here are some reasons: 1. It's fairly clean and organized. 2. There is a seemingly coherent system for service. 3. The people in the windows are helpful, and almost nice (gasp). 4. There are two automated postal machines if you want to avoid all human contact. And the kicker: There is a woman here whose SOLE JOB is to answer my stupid questions. And yours. Seriously, she just walks around looking for the most helpless, idiotic, confused-looking patron and asks if she can help. She zeroed in on me pretty quickly. Once she discovered what I needed, she patiently explained how I was doing it all wrong, and gave me the right form/sent me to the right line/nearly succeeded in disguising her pity at my obvious mental deficiencies. I don't typically write many reviews, but every single one of my experiences in this post office has been absolutely awful! The people are slow, rude, lazy and not the least bit helpful. My last experience: I dropped off a package to be returned on January 20.. it is now February 8 and the package is still in "transit " when I tracked it, it said it was still at the initial facility so I went into the post office and waited in line for about an hour. When I told the representative in the window why I was there, she told me the package is still in transit and she can't do anything. I tried to get a clear answer and she just walked away and didn't come back to the window. That service (or lack there of) was horrendous. They just need to go out of business already read more

Actually nicely done with two self-service machines and a good seven service windows to help customers (though on a Saturday, only two were staffed with workers and a third was just counting money). Relatively smooth, though the line moved very slowly... not sure why the lady counting money wouldn't help people after she was done. Guess she's a manager? Anyway, only serious issue for someone else in line was that a guy with a stroller had a tough time getting in (doors were heavy and there are stairs at both entrances I saw). read more
