I know I know...drive another 22 miles after hitting a deer? Yeah, well it was my first accident since I started driving and I knew that I wouldn't be able to get roadside assistance so I wanted to get to a somewhat big city. I had been to the nearby Coulee Dam and Grand Coulee, which aren't big, but I could at least stay the night there. Anyway, about the post office, it's really small but generally cute for this small town. There is no APC, just old brick and mortar postal customer service and 24 hour post office access. One more post office to cross off my list. I'll never forget it.

I've only been to the Bellevue and Redmond Post Offices here, and I was very very disappointed with the Redmond Post Office. The location itself isn't TOO bad, but it is a little out of the way. There's ample parking places, but quite a few spots are occupied when you show up. The customer service are itself has been crazy both times I've visited. I have visited at noon and at 2 p.m. and both times there was only one employee and a line of people almost going out the door. Once you get through the 20 minute line, the employees aren't particularly friendly. The people I've interacted with came off as rude and a little condescending. After two consecutive negative experiences, I don't plan on returning to this location unless I absolutely have to.

This was my last city to visit in the hope of travelling to all the cities in Washington and not…read moreonly was it a beautiful and enjoyable journey riding on the Lady of the Lake Express up to Stehekin for approximately two and a half hours, Stehekin is a quaint little community of folks that are just doing their best to get by in the great outdoors near the North Cascades. This is a very remote community and you can only reach it by ferry, boatplane or a very very long hike. Anyway, you are greated by the parks service rangers when you reach the dock and it you take a short 3-5 minute walk down the road going North you'll see this quaint little post office perched up on the hill. I believe this post office was on the verge of extinction recently due to it's remote location but it was voted to be kept open for a little while longer. The exterior is designed to weather the elements and there are windows cut out so the postal workers and peer out and watch the transient hikers and passersby as well as the locals and the gorgeous Lake Chelan close by. Take a picture in front of the office or the "Welcome to Stehekin" sign to mark that you've been there since most people probably aren't going to make a trek up here other than hiking or to just have a short stay in a cabin or boating.

The parking lot is quite larger and easy to get in and out. Oddly enough the people that work here are really really nice even if this post office seems like it's out in the middle of no where. I do remember that there is a McDonald's across the street since I stopped there to grab a coffee to help jumpstart my journey for the day. Overall this office is very nice and it reminds me of the Lyle Post Office ...without the wind of the Gorge blowin up your skirt....or britches if you don't have a skirt.

She had to ask a co-worker. 2. Why does Chelan, WA 98816 have no drive-by box to drop off outgoing mail? Nor does the Chelan, WA 98816 USPS have any ADA/handicapped parking spots! I am disabled. It is a major chore to find any spot, let alone a handicap parking spot. Come on USPS! You charge us tons to mail 1 letter. No matter how you instruct businesses to send packages, using both a PO Box # and a street address, they can get it wrong. We don't have street delivery, so I always use both (not knowing if shipper is shipping USPS or UPS). I just found out a part (that I NEED) was delivered to Chelan, using only my street address. Instead of just looking at the business name on the package, they sent it back-to California. I'm not sure what takes more time for them; looking at the name or going thru the process of returning it? Now I'm out the part and have to reorder & my customer is without a car. I've heard many complaints about this in the area, just not sure about the process. Maybe I should sign up for street delivery? I'm right in town--oh wait, there is a lack of mail carriers......................
