As others have said, this is the worst post office in the city. I've been trying to get my meds re-delivered for over two weeks. The redelivery dates have come and gone twice and no package. Someone actually called to confirm that I wanted the package redelivered. It never was and now I have received a text saying the package will be returned to sender. My daughter wrote a "Dear Santa" letter. We waited and waited for a response from Santa and no response. The day before Christms Eve, my daughter was home sick. I went to the Post Office inquiring why my daughter hadn't receive a response from Santa yet. On Christmas Eve my daughter received a Express Priority Mail letter from Santa. As I read the letter from Santa to my daughter, I told her how special she was because she received express priority next day mail from Santa Clause. Literally the worst post office in the city. Usually only one rude worker behind the desk, long lines usually 20-40 minutes wait. The one young woman behind the desk will hang out in the back for long periods of time ignoring customers. I've been here dozens of times and it's always a coin flip of an experience. read more

I bought an item from a gentleman who lives an hour from my house. We could not work out a time to meet so he shipped me the item. I checked the tracking and it was all set to be here on 12/15. That day came an went and no package. I tracked it again and as usual it was sitting down in the Philadelphia (Lack of) Distribution Center. I'm sure it will be down there for at least another week before I receive the item and I am only 45 min from that facility and my local post office is 1 mile from my house. I personally think the post office as a whole needs to go away. Only thing they ever Deliver is junk mail and they cannot seem to deliver packages on time. Nevermind the quaint, antique-y post office boxes -- they are just a decoy, a beard if you will, to distract you from the tooth-gnashing frustration of waiting twenty-five minutes to buy ten stamps. I went to the office today to address a delivery Mail issue and the rude rep that helped me couldn't even help me properly or throughly explain why they couldn't help me resolve my issue without having a nasty attitude with me and yelling at me as if she wanted to personally fight me. She was talking to me as if I was so stupid and instead of actually trying to help me and make me understand better she was talking crap to me and kept staring at me as if she wanted to bash my head in. Literally the guy that intervened told me he would help me at the end because she was super rude and was talking crap to me. I'm super disgusted with how I was treated by this employee of yours ! Get better people to run your customer service. Woah...I'm not sure how to begin to describe this place. With out a doubt, the Southwark branch of the United States Post Office is an accredited annex of Slip & Fall University. From the crazy man picking up the mail, declaring to the line of people backed up to the street, that "The governor of Maryland has all the sniper clips, and all the trains are going to explode somewhere between 3:00 and 5:00, but we don't know how many people will be coming in over the next few hours, so we better make sure we all have enough machine guns..." and so on...To the sluggardly service...to the crying children...this place is an basically an example of what not to do in life. First customer taken back at 9:05. At 9 am when they should be opened yet they are microwaving breakfast (what seems to be Mac and cheese or fried chicken) for all to smell. Friendly customer service, parking is a bit difficult. There was only two employees working behind the desk, so the wait time was on the longer side, especially because all I needed was a stamped envelope. Their was about eight people in front of me when I walked in which was surprising because the place opened up only twenty minutes beforehand. This branch gets a bad reputation for the long wait times but the employees are really lovely.

This is by far the worst post office that I've ever been in. There's no such thing as in and out. On Saturdays, the line is out the door and goes down the street. I strongly suggest avoiding Saturdays. During the week, you can expect that they will only have 2 employees working and a line consisting of 10 to 15 people ahead of you. Then they often run into issues where they can't find people's packages so they get stuck on the same customer for 15 minutes, jamming up the line. Not a friendly atmosphere. I dread coming here when I have to pick up a package. Maybe it wouldn't be so crazy of they had better hours, but this is the government so you can't expect them to consider doing what's convenient for customers. read more

This place is much too close for me to travel elsewhere but every time I must trudge towards this quantum alternate reality of line rage my whole soul winces a good deal. One time early on in my visits I asked if there a stamp dispensing machine. Oh, to only have again the naivete regarding Philly I possessed nine months ago. The woman behind the ghetto pawn shop-esque plexiglass window answered in a voice that at once contained coy sassiness, self-resentment and annoyance: "You lookin' at it." I'm never more proud of my not-so-unique ability to just remain quiet in line even when very agitated, watching the curious assortment of locals flip out for some reason or another. TruTV could do a show here. There are four windows for your amusement only. If you get tired of looking at one empty window, look at another while you wait for the one, *maybe* two employees to finally get to you. There was only one person working on TAX DAY. i just needed one measly stamp to mail my return and by the time I got it I was a fossil. I never received them, nor did my neighbors who I've known for over 6 years now on both sides. I filed an inquiry to track them down and the "manager" at this branch said she would contact me within 48 hours. Well, 72 hours later- no word, nothing. So I called and asked for her and referenced the inquiry. She dodged all my calls. I physically went there and asked for her and oddly enough- she was never there to speak with me. You know why? Because when you don't do your job and people want to call you out on it, the best thing to do is hide. It's not like anyone gets fired from the USPS. These jerk offs can coast through 30 years and retire with benefits while filing their nails in a loading dock. Woo hoo! When I did finally get her on the phone and tell her what I think of their operation she had every excuse in the book and blahblahblah. You had to hold my mail for two weeks and half of it, including an important envelope and my Philadelphia Magazine were handed to me after waiting forever in line to pickup --- was water damaged. The magazine was 125% ruined. How!? Were you keeping my mail outside? Is that why it took so long for you to come back to the counter once i made it to the front of the line? I just thought it was because I could hear you talking to the several other people in the back (though only 2 people were manning the window and dealing with the large line.) I was out of the country for 16 days. Next time, I'll ask a neighbor to help me out instead. Ugh. read more

For some crazy reason the heading above says I'm in San Francisco, CA. But that's some odd Google / Yelp glitch which I'm hunting down. In the meantime, no, I'm in South Philly. That said ... This the worst post office branch in Philadelphia. I can't tell you how many times over the years (and long before COVID-19 began slowing things down, BTW) they've delivered packages to the wrong addresses on our block (with neighbors kind and honest enough to bring the packages and mail to the proper addresses afterwards), have simply lost packages and mail (including one elderly woman's box of new checks from her bank - she had to change her account numbers and everything else afterwards), and more. Since COVID it's been even worse. And to top it off, now and then you sometimes (believe it or not) actually get attitude when pointing out the problems. You can never reach anyone by phone (always a busy signal, or the line just cuts off while the phone's ringing). And when you come to the actual office with tracking numbers, etc. no one seems to know what's going on. Horrible, horrible and (worst of all) dangerously horrible - as in one doesn't know where one's mail is ending up. I even had a package about three months ago caught in a loop, and it kept bouncing back and forth between this post office and another across the state. And it wasn't until I finally got through to someone that they actually took the time to track it down, otherwise it might probably still be "bouncing". Eggggh! They're the worst!!! Comedian Dane Cooks says of the DMV that you should just punch yourself in the face upon walking in to create a physical reason for such mental anguish (but he says it with a whole lot more chutzpuh). I feel like this could apply at this branch of the post office. I love online shopping. I work from home so I am positioned well for the deliveries, but whenever I miss the mailman, I literally begin to decide how much I really wanted what I ordered. I've actually let items get returned so I don't have to wait in that line of torture. I've gone on days when its out the door. That equates to at least a 45 minute wait. I've gone on days when I'm the 2nd person in line... and when this happens I grin from ear to ear upon walking in the door. What I don't realize is that somehow it will still take 20 minutes!!! Once you finally get to the front of the line, the people that work there are SOOOO sweet and SOOO nice... but clearly not aware that their small talk is holding up the line. Bottom line- bring snacks, download hulu plus on your phone, and watch TV shows while you wait in line. Don't forget water, a folding chair, etc. Think of it as tailgating for your mail. Consistently rude employees that blame the customer for lost packages. I've never been anything but nice to them and they still ignore all my requests. I only do pick-ups there and try to have all I can mailed to work to avoid that. All mailings I go to 4th street. I had to suffer through dealing with this horror show of a post office for my mail in my old 'hood for over six years. If at all possible, AVOID AT ALL COSTS! (I'm giving them one star only because Yelp won't let me give then zero.) They were rude - I got yelled at by someone in back when I dared knock on the magic door after being directed there by the window clerk. And I rarely remember a friendly face or a smile. They were incompetent - I would take my delivery slip, wait in line (you never knew when you were allowed to knock on the door to the back), and then be told that they couldn't find my package or that it must still be on the carrier's truck (in which case I would find a new delivery slip when I got home from the P.O.). Which meant I'd have to come back and go through it all again. Or they wouldn't leave a delivery slip even though the USPS electronic tracking said they made a delivery attempt. AAARGH!! (Oh, and their self-service stamp machine was out of commission 80% of the time.) They would delay my mail - many times I would receive weekly magazines a week or two late. No matter how many times I reported it to the regional office, no one could ever figure out the cause. The place is depressing - what with the thick scratched plexiglass windows the clerks hide behind and the dull and dirty steel gray paint job. And what decorating genius decided to cut a door through the place's one distinguishing feature - its WPA-era mural. They're still screwing up my mail - since I've moved (a mere 25 miles away) I've had a number of items that were sent to my old address forwarded a month after their original postmark date. I would only go there to pick up packages (and many times my mail carrier would leave a delivery slip even if I was home!) and would never ever go there to buy stamps or send a package. Luckily, the super-friendly Penns Landing retail branch on S. 4th Street just below South was much closer and a distinct pleasure to deal with for these things. read more

Where packages go to die... Ugh. My mail carrier doesn't even ring my bell for packages and delivery notices are left only 50% of the time. Requested redelivery attempts do not occur (the online system does not work) and packages are returned to sender. Once that process begins there is no way to reverse it! Horrible service. I got a P. O. Box here after having packages stolen from in front of my house. When I moved I kept my P. O. Box even though it's a little further from my house but I love this location. They are always friendly and nice; especially Susan. They are pretty fast; well as fast as you can be at a post office. But I definitely recommend this location on. read more

Only open 8-5 Mon - Fri and 8-2 on Saturday. Dear USPS, How are you not open late at least one day a week? I work 9-5 (well, actually 8-6) and can't come pick up my package during the work week. I was away last Saturday and will be away this coming weekend. Therefor my package will simply be returned to sender unless I A) cancel my weekend plans or B) use vacation time to pick up a package. I vote this place as the worst postal office I've seen. While we do sometimes receive our packages, most of the time: 1. We get delivery notices without knocking or delivery attempts. 2. No delivery notice, no nothing. Package stays there at the office. We pay extra money when we need our packages fast for what? They don't even attempt to deliver at times. I had an interaction with one of the Clerks. Her name is Aidia. She was super rude. Her level of customer service was the worst that I've ever experienced in my life. After waiting in line for 20 minutes (being 6 months pregnant) , she refused to help me. She stated she wouldn't help me because she didn't want to. I asked if there was anyone else there to help and she used phrases such as "none of your business." She even threatened to fight me outside!! Granted, I've only had to visit this place once, but it wasn't as painful as others have described. I know I just got lucky. I had to pick up a package. Every few minutes an employee would yell for the people with a "peach notice" (the little postcard they leave when you miss a package delivery) to come to the window one at a time. I was nervous because I had forgotten my "peach notice" but I showed my ID and she was perfectly nice about it. While she searches for your box, she shuts the door entirely (it's the type of door where you can open the top part and the bottom stays closed) so you're standing there staring at a closed door. Luckily she found my box fast and I was out of there. When I walked in I was sixth or seventh in line, and the wait wasn't horrible, maybe 10 minutes tops. As I was leaving the line extended out into the lobby, and I passed a woman on my way in who turned around after seeing the line and said she'd rather die than wait in there. I noticed that my package to my PO Box was sent here instead of to my local office. After calling customer service repeatedly, I finally received a return call 4 days later letting me know my package had been picked up from the box's owner. Umm, no shit Sherlock. The idea of me contacting you though was to attempt to INTERCEPT the package PRIOR to it being picked up but when it takes days to do so, what does one really expect? After speaking to several different agents, they were "attempting" to get in "contact" with the owner of the box in "hopes" of "retrieving" my package. Once again, after being given the run around for a week or so, I'm contacted and told they couldn't "acquire" the package because the box they put it in belongs to the Flyers organization and really is just too big to "track" down. Yeah, that's "IF" you believe they even made a real life attempt. The woman than continued to tell me I could "try" to file a claim but likely wouldn't get my money back because she refuses to admit that they distributed my package to a box that clearly had a different zip code. Just when I thought I disliked my regular office, the lackadaisical effort and personality of these employees have given me a newfound appreciation for my local office. They've actually annoyed me so bad I just marked off South philly on possible areas to move to just so I don't have to deal with anymore of their incompetence. Ugh. read more
