I've been using the North Philadelphia Post Office for quite a while, and I wanted to leave a review because the employees deserve some recognition. Yes, the lines can be long. This is one of the busiest post offices in Philadelphia, serving a neighborhood with a lot of foot traffic, businesses, and Temple University students. The staff is constantly busy, and it's clear they're doing the best they can with the resources they have. What stands out is how kind, professional, and genuinely helpful every employee is. They give each person their full attention. It's easy to criticize when you're waiting in line, or your package is missing, but the postal system is huge, it may not be our post offices fault. They've helped me with a missing packages, taken extra care not to leave deliveries where they could be stolen, and have always been helpful with courtesy and respect. Well,it's impossible to get hold of anyone at any of the post offices. They turn off their phones from early in the morning till they close. They physical PO closes too early, so if you work and get off at 5 PM, you're stuck if you need them for something, unless you want to speak to an inept AI bot who doesn't understand anything you say, then go for it. Only in Philadelphia, mostly the ones close to Center City. I'm fed up with them. read more

I'm very convinced there is a snake amongst this cooperation. falsely stating my package to be delivered but never received or actually delivered. Saying they left my package in a mailbox knowing dang well isn't no mail box in my neighborhood. Got me second guessing every order I purchase down the line. Since I live a walking distance away, Ik most my packages come through in around this facility.It just happens to be the most expensive item I brought to get stolen after doing business with them for awhile. what a shame we cant even trust the delivery person with our package anymore. I left instructions for where my package should be left and they were not followed. This resulted in my almost $200 package being either stolen or left at a completely different location. I am writing to mention that in all my 83 years of receiving mail from postal employees there is one that is most outstanding and worth mentioning. I live in Philadelphia in the 19103 zip code and Dustin (don't know his last name) is a most reliable, accommodating and caring postal employee I have ever enountered in all my years. His deliveries are always at a consistent time. He goes the extra mile to make me and my neighbors feel cared for in that he asks how we are doing and he is always so pleasant. When he is off we get mail sometimes when it is dark outside and many times we get mail for another address. This has never happened with Dustin. I hope he gets the recognition he deserves from the Postal Service. In this neighborhood we always look forward to seeing his usual smile and the light in his eyes when he sees us. read more

This place is THE worst. Sad that the clerk has to be overwhelmed with getting pkgs and this long line. It seems the mail carriers are not delivering the packages like they should so everyone has to come to the post office to pick them up. The absolute fucking worst. Pardon my language. I hate this place with a passion. I would tolerate it except for the fact that I left my laptop (a 2012 Mac Pro) at a friend's in Pittsburgh and she had it two day Priority shipped and despite the package apparently being sent out for delivery, then going back to this place where I put a request for the package to STAY, I found out after waiting in line for half an hour that the package was out for delivery...? Or as the front person said, "it's not here so it must be out for delivery". Oh. Okay? Despite me continuously checking the tracking number on their site and it saying my package is at this post office...? I don't want to ever come back. It's super understaffed and the workers are rude. Probably just working there for benefits. Lost your package? Assume it's gone because this place is the definition of incompetent :) I can't wait for the day that Fedex and UPS run this shit show of a governmental organization into the ground. Oh, I guess the one star is for the fact that my package was insured by my amazing best friend so I'll just file a claim and HOPEFULLY get reimbursed that. But the office gets 0 stars. read more

Whew. This place is a nightmare of a Post Office. That picture for the business is a 2-3 hour long wait. If there are 3-4 people in front of you waiting, you may make it to the bulletproof window within the next hour or 3. Imagine waiting in line for 2+ hours to be told that the snippy and abrasive postal employee that your package, which was never delivered is, "Still on the truck," and to come back into the branch over the next few days to find out where the package is. There are no postal redeliveries. Mail people will say they attempted a delivery while never leaving a slip on the door or in your mailbox. The wait is unbearable and shameful. No seats are provided. Just put a waiting room and a number machine in there so people can at least be comfortable as they spend the entirety of their Saturdays trying to find their mail. Shame. Got to USPS.com. This has to be the worst post office to stand and wait in line for service. I came in here today at 1:45 and it is 2:16 and only serviced two people out of the 16 still in line waiting . This is definitely the worst post office that I have ever dealt with. Apparently my mailman took a vacation last week. Instead of someone taking there place,we just didn't get our mail. I have informed delivery so I see the mail I'm supposed to get . No mail delivered at all last week. This week they only delivered the mail on Tuesday and Saturday. Mind you I was supposed to get mail on Monday, Wed, and Friday of this week. I still have none of the backed up mail. Someone called me back on Wednesday (after I complained) from this office to tell me the mail man took off work and wasn't replaced. I was told on that same day that the mailman was back and would be bringing ALL of my backed up mail on that same day. That was a lie. I don't usually write reviews, but I have had the worst mail delivery experience ever with this place. I ordered something that was expected to come on a Friday. My package tracker said "out for delivery" but the postman never came. Then was told it would be sent Saturday. Still nothing. Told it would come Monday, nothing came. It said on my tracker that an attempt was made but that there was an error with the address (which was completely false). So I went to the store on Tuesday and was told that the workers, "didn't know what happened to the package" and that it had probably been returned back to the original sender. This post office has a complete lack of professionalism and communication. I will never send a package to this location again, and I will specifically request that any packages I order NOT go here. read more

It's very sad coming. Normally it's a long line full of elderly people who can barely walk but rely on the post office doing things the old fashion way and not adapted to the new technology. Not to mention the do not have the forms for you to pre fill out before you get to the window and you have to stand in line for that. Some of the staff are pleasant but some are so ignorant and nasty. You can literally wait in line for hours and than when you finally get to the window your greeted by an aggressive angry worker who do not what you be there. I cringe going here. If I could give this place a -5 that would be my start rating. This is not a post office, this place is a market. Long lines at all hours of the day... I have waited for 30 minutes and I'm nowhere near the counter. The staff shows more interest on side conversations (by opening the wooden side door upper Windows, yet they have a tantrum if the glass windows is not closed before giving you the package) than doing their job. To add insult to injury, a woman is begging for change inside the building! And now she has moved outside to harass people as they walk in... And walk out.The staff seems not to be bother by this...but then again they don't seem to be bother by much. This place is hell. THE WORST! They allowed 2 SEPERATE boxes weighing 53lbs each (106 lb total) to be shipped with the same tracking number!!!!, which resulted in only 1 package arriving at its destination and the other being lost in limbo land. They also accepted the shipper's prepaid label of only 22lbs total for this shipment!!!!!! Tried calling them for 2 days straight (46 phone calls so far), twice they picked up, rattled the phone and hung up!! This has to be one of the worst Post Offices that I have ever dealt with. People who have jobs should be thankful. The people working at this office are rude, non-helpful Ghetto and uneducated. I had a package delivered to my Aunt. My tracking information said it was delivered on 02/04/2013. It is now 02/08/2013 and they still have not been able to tell me what happened to the package. I called and the person over the phone asked if I had a tracking number. I proceeded to give her the number and she cut me off, to tell me that the number was wrong. I asked her how she would know this. She said because the number did not start with a nine. Duh silly maybe it is coming from a different state. When she put the number in to her surprise, it was in fact the correct number. The girl then put me on hold for over 30 min. When no one came back to the phone, I hung up to call again. Then the line just rang, finally after a long time a message came on telling me that the person I was trying to reach was not taking calls. Ha! The post office not taking calls in the middle of a Business day, what a crock! When I call a third time, the same girl answered just to tell me that the package was not there and she did not know where it was, that she needed to wait for the carrier. In addition, to call back the next day to speak to her so called supervisor Mrs. Wheeler. A note was left saying they tried to deliver it on the fourth. Nevertheless, when my aunt tried to inquire about it she was told that it was lost and they do not even know who the mail person was for that day. Sound like a theft to me. How do you NOT know who work of a certain day? Look at the schedule I would say. What a shame how we put our trust in the United States Postal Service just to be ripped off by some low life that is lucky to have a job. At one point, I was against them shutting down many of the post offices, but now I am for it. I say close them. If our packages are being ripped off and customer service is, the pits then why have them. You cannot even make a complaint because you get know where. The local post office is like certain family members. (you wish you could pick em'). The clerk's are slow and sometimes rude, they huff & puff when they have to retrieve your package. Is it just as luck would have it, or is it some twisted joke, that Temple students must grit their teeth, maintain that stiff upper lip, pump out their chests, and travel to the North Philly Badlands every time they have to pick up a package? It's probably the latter, but, regardless, it may be worth the trip to visit this majestic post office, to see this anachronism of luxury and community investment in a neighborhood now ravaged and forgotten. It's truly a grand dame of a New Deal WPA post office in a Shadey McShadey Hood. The architecture is like "whoa!". It's pure Georgian gone Art Deco, a clever and subtle nod to Independence Hall 1930s-style. Check the expansive rows of arched windows, check the solid red bricked front, check the miniature bell tower, check the decorative arches. This proud commitment to civic pride stands solitary as the young bulls in rich rose shades pop wheelies down the streets, as the grade schoolers play basketball in front of a drive-by memorial, as the old heads with scruffy beards roll blunts on the stoops of long empty buildings. Despite assertions to the contrary, the line is never as long and never as slow-moving as haters aver. Besides, the company provides constant semi-amusement to pass the time. There's always someone complaining aloud, always a not-quite-but-half-senile old man clamoring for his express scripts. Heck, some mornings you may be able to pick up a "hot date" outside the post on the steps - I'd recommend against it, though. At the very least, you can watch the flirtations and dating games of hop heads strung out on Percs and dulled by weed. One not entirely unattractive "customer" of sorts attested that she "goes to the post office every morning, just to meet people to hang out with". But, if you don't like talking to people or if you just don't like talking to shady people in old post offices in bad neighborhoods, there's other ways to pass the time while in line. For one, the walls are lined with great WPA murals displaying Everyman and Everyday - the soldier, the doctor, the capitalist, the merchant, and, of course, the family - domestic bliss! What a bitter contrast to the scene outside the post office doors! It makes one almost wax poetic. But, don't despair, there's a thread of hope - learn from the Futuristic murals of industry, progress (the racing horse! the speeding train! the lofty eagle!), learn from the Black History Appreciation posters. They show how far we've come, how much more we have to achieve. Granted they are yellow and dusty and crumpled. To think, how funny, that people once upon a time built grand post offices with moralistic murals, that people once upon a time fought for lofty concepts like "justice" and "equality". Nowadays, we hate these 'hoods and laugh at these ghetto monuments, we fight with postal clerks who "waste our time" and "take too long". read more

THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST POST OFFICE IN THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA. Every time I come here I have a mimimim wait time of 15 minutes. The windows are always understaffed. The workers are slow, careless, and rude. Moreover, they do a subpar job. I had a package set to get delivered on November 20, 2014. After the date had come and gone & I still had not received my package, I called PayPal to get the order refunded, since it should have been returned to the manufacturer by then, but no. It was sitting at the post office! I picked up my package in the first week of February. Their policy clearly states that packages get returned after 15 days, why was mines there for 2 months? This was not a one time occurrence either. On 2 other separate occasions I had to pick up my mail from the post office because the letter carriers make lousy attempts to deliver said packages. Furthermore, they rarely leave me a slip letting me know that I missed a delivery so the packages sit. I've unsuccessfully attempted to call and complain about this post office on numerous occasions, but I gave up. read more
