This post office located right on Thayer St is small but convenient if you live in the area or if you are one of the many college students that frequent the neighborhood. The staff is nice and efficient. The main thing that I wish they had is dedicated parking. Parking in this area is tough and hard to find. Like many post offices, you can get supplies for shipping packages. The only thing to know is that if you use their Express Package supplies, you will have to pay the express package rate, which is usually $4-5 more than if you would had wrapped your box in a brown generic paper or plain box. read more

I need my packages scanned as an online seller. I was told I have to use an online form which online platforms do not accept. She said they are too busy and I will need to go to the main office. I was literally the only person there. They can never be fired so there is zero incentive to be helpful. I paid the postage at home, packed it, brought it to them - there was almost nothing for them to do but scan it. read more

While the employees at this location are extremely kind, it doesn't make up for the mayhem that ensues not just during the holidays, but every single effing day of the year. Perhaps it's the inconvenient location -Thayer Street? Really? No parking + all students = complete mess. Hate. I would be a much happier Providencian if they opened up a branch elsewhere on the East Side. Somewhere I don't have to fight to park my car, and won't get charged $30 if I happen to take 15.5 minutes rather than the maximum parking time of 15 minutes allotted on that block. It would be less of an issue if I could actually get in and out of the post office in under 15 minutes, but that's just not a reality, friends. Again, the staff: lovely, accommodating, understanding. But they can only do so much with a broken system in the wrong location. Preach. read more

The thing I resent the most about the USPS is not the long lines or the gruff service but rather the total lack of price transparency. Usually, you hand them the package, and they tell you how much it's going to cost you--and you're not about to comparison shop after waiting in line for 20+ minutes. Luckily, the employees here are always happy to explain the pricing and to oblige my signature request: "ship this as cheaply as possible, please." They also seem to be pretty patient with customers who don't speak English or don't know their way around a post office. I mean, you're not going to leave here radiant with happiness, but for a post office, the customer service is not bad. If you hit this place at a bad time, you may catch only one person working the desk, which, I agree, sucks. That being said, I've visited on a few weekdays during this busy holiday season and there have been 2-3 people there, helping the line along at a nice clip. For a small post office, there's also a nice selection of boxes and packing materials, although if you do decide to wait to package your items until you get here, I would bring your own tape to avoid paying $3 for a roll here. read more

I mail packages on a weekly basis and unfortunately this is my closest USPS location. Employees are friendlier than average (not saying much for the Postal Service). During summer and winter breaks, when the place isn't crawling with Brown students who have clearly never been to a post office before, things usually move relatively quickly. During other times you might wait a half an hour before even getting to the counter. The USPS is poor and this place shows it by only having 1-2 people on counter even during the most ridiculously busy times. Save yourself the frustration and go to the main Providence branch. read more

Clerk 05- old, fat, white man with gray facial hair racially profile me. I was gonna the only young, black woman in the store. I saw him pleasantly interact with the 2 white customers in line in front of me. He raised his voice when I asked a question about addressing my package. He talked over me and yelled so that the whole store could hear, likely negatively impacting the rest of the customers. I have reported him using the usps satisfaction survey. read more

This little USPS location is tucked away on the upper end of Thayer street quite obviously geared towards the Brown University students that frequent the area. They are often efficient and quick with their lines such that I don't believe I've ever had to wait in a line there! Well anyways, parking is on the street which is definitely a hassle on this busy street. -1 star because it's the USPS and seems to only be open when people are at work.... what's wrong with this picture? read more

This is my favorite post office. The employees are not only more efficient and knowledgeable than average, but also extremely friendly and patient. It's a very different vibe than any other post office I've been to: sometimes they have music on, they make interesting small talk... it's a pleasure to visit! The only downsides are that the line can get long (though I suspect this is the case everywhere) and that it's a smaller office that may not have all services (like Passports). Also, if you're used to a big parking lot, parking on Thayer might be more challenging. read more

I don't ship things often but with Covid, I needed to mail some of my supplies to my college dorm. My local post office, and every other one I've been to is great. Because of my past experiences I wanted to support USPS instead of UPS or FedEx but going to the Thayer st post office made me regret this. The woman working was very unhelpful and rude when I was trying to ask questions about shipping my boxes. She was also mean to the woman in front of me in line; every question was answered in a short demeanor. Shipping is not cheap and I wanted to make sure my packages would arrive safe but when I asked questions about my packages, the questions seemed to burden the employee who was working yesterday. read more

The guy works here does not respect his job and never care about their customers. It is the last day for graduation students leaving brown university and the guy closed door before their closing time. He said he doesn't care whether you need help or not. His attitude is too bad. I tried to refrain from writing this review, but it has to be said: there is a woman who works here that is by far one of the most unpleasant human beings I have ever had the pleasure of interacting with. I swear, you could bring her a bag full of money along with your stamp request and she would still scowl at you, while admonishing you for being an idiot in some form. She snarls, snaps, stares at you like you have three heads and is otherwise the least favorite part of my day when I have to pick up a delivery. Seriously, lady - life is too short. And you represent a government agency. I understand my tax dollars don't support the USPS, so I'm not going "there" - but you are the face of a neighborhood organization. Not saying I'd want to work on Thayer Street every day, but don't take out your dissatisfaction in life on paying customers. To the USPS: a damn smile goes a long way. All of your employees could learn this. It's no accident FedEx is getting most of my shipping dollars as of late (yes, they're more pleasant and the rates are better.) read more

I had a FANTASTIC experience at this post office! I walked in was greeted by a super friendly woman, waited in ZERO line and mailed a package! There were people coming and going doing other things but I didn't wait in line. The worker was so helpful and friendly it was such a lovely experience. It cost me under $5 to 3 day with insurance a small light package across country. What a nice change from UPS which said it would cost me $51 to send the same thing. Yeah I'll take USPS. I paid with debit card and was able to get tracking both on the receipt and on a separate paper. Only problem with this location is it's on Thayer and parking is always a bummer :) read more

There is always a significant wait. It seems that there is usually only one clerk working at time, which really slows things down. The employees though are always so kind and helpful and patient. I must say that the worst thing about this post office are the customers! Yes..there is a line. But that doesn't mean you have to huff and puff and be rude to others. If you don't want to wait, you should come back another time. Overall, even though I never seem to enjoy going to this post office in particular, I must say I find myself returning regularly because of the location. read more

This is a very good post office. If all of the employees of USPS were like the ones at the Thayer Street Post Office they would not be bankrupt. Ok, maybe that's a stretch, but still a 5 star branch. Only one star for the young guy in front of me wanting to mail shoes to Sweeden. read more

If I could give less than 1star I would. I received a note on my door saying I had a package that couldn't be left because it had to not only be signed for but handed to someone (couldn't just sign the back and leave it)...ok, not their fault, that's how it was sent. I work full time, can't take a day off to wait for the mail so I go on-line to their 'easy' to use website to schedule redelivery for a day I can be there (NOT easy to use, but I get it done), receive the email confirmation (because unlike snail mail, email actually works). Saturday comes, I adjust my day so I can wait for the mail, don't turn on the tv or radio so I can be sure to hear him...he arrives, and says he "has no package...didn't know there was one...didn't get a notice. Go to the post office on Thayer, should still be there". If you've been to the one on Thayer you know there's no parking...that's why I scheduled redelivery instead of picking it up in the first place, but ok...I go down there. Guess what? They don't have it, the carrier should...I tell them I just spoke to him and he doesn't. "Ohhhh, well then it's still at the delivery unit on Corliss. Go down there"...first off there are multiple signs to only ring the bell for service once...but nothing about what to do when they don't answer after one ring...or two...even when you can see people in there moving around and blatantly ignoring you. So, we go across the street to the main post office. They tell you just to go back over, they are there. Fat lot of good that will do. Finally someone comes with us from the main office...he can go in and get someone to help us. So, they look around, nope no package...the carrier has it, tell them he says he doesn't...oh, well then, it's at Thayer, tell them they say it isn't..."oh, no it's there, they just didn't look...but they are probably closed now, it's after 12". Nope, they are open til 2, so we go back to Thayer...park a mile away in single digit weather and try again. Supervisor comes out...the carrier has it...nope, says he doesn't...did you ask him? Yes, insists he doesn't have it. Then it's at Corliss...nope, they insist it's here. Now in the meantime all these people look at the 'tracking information' and every one of them points to it and says 'this says it's not here'...somehow the same exact scan said three different things. Finally the guy at Thayer calls Corliss and the supervisor (20 freaking supervisors, but nobody that does a damn thing for me) at Corliss..she insists the carrier has it, she'll call him and call me back. No one calls me back...no package...and the kicker? The tracking this morning shows SOMEBODY scanned it at one of the offices at 12:30...when I was driving frotm Corliss to Thayer and both insisted they didn't have it. Ughhhhh! UPDATE: I rescheduled delivery online again...we had a blizzard, no mail (through rain and snow my a**)...reschedule again for the next day...no package, but it was scanned...200 miles away in NEW HAMPSHIRE! read more
