I'll start by saying that this is the closest post office to my house so I do hope it stays open... But the facility and primarily the service can certainly use some improvement! When I came in to the store there was a line of 7 people, another 3 at the windows being helped, one being a guy who seemed to have been there for a while. He seemed to be having trouble with his transactions. They sent him away to deal with his envelopes and such. He asked for scotch tape and they just pointed out to one of their tables. He came back in with the tape dispenser (empty) asking again for tape, "a refill or something", one male worker pipes up and says they aren't required to supply tape, and to buy some, pointing to the huge rolls of PACKAGING TAPE. The guy was irritated but in my opinion still pretty civil, saying "come on, that's not even the kind of tape I need. You made me open up the envelopes and you're not gonna give me some tape?" the worker then repeated himself firmly and said he'd have to buy some, and that that's what he'd do, because they weren't going to supply it for him. The guy reached for one and actually looked like he was gonna buy it, but suddenly the last straw dropped when he realized he would have to get back in line and he put it back, left in a huff (still not super loud or anything) and called the worker an Asshole. I had to silently agree with him. Was the guy annoying? Yes. Did he need to be treated so poorly? No. The worker eyed the guy and fixed on him as he left the building, then muttered something to the two people he was helping. No idea what he said, but the tone was demeaning. I also don't know if the guy had been hassling them for an extended period of time before I came in and they'd already have enough, but in terms of being a bystander, I was really unhappy with the lack of professionalism and customer service. Oh, and what sealed the deal on this low rating? I asked if they had a "confidential" stamp for the envelope I was sending, and none of the three workers had one. All of them had, like TEN stamps, FIRST CLASS included, of course, but no confidential stamp. Arg. read more

three days before Christmas and there's almost no line here (and it's moving fast). that's incredible because Civic Center, Sutter St., and Embarcadero all have lines out the door. Staff are friendly. Easy to get in and out. Plus there's plenty of places for food/ coffee around here. I really don't understand the negative reviews. read more

Lined up to get a passport and told me I have to wait until the line clears up because people will end up waiting. I already waited...$&:$! And this is supposed to be the best PO to get one. Hope the Internet puts them out if their misery soon. read more

Terrible experience attempting to mail our wedding invitations. Both the manager (male) and employee (female) gave a clear message that they did not care about our invite attempt. In fact, we left this post office feeling upset and defeated and opted for dhl and fedex help - they were amazing and cost the same! read more

Customer service-wise the worst post office ever. Don't go there before it's gonna close if you want to end your day peacefully. Most of the workers will be stressed out near the closing time but this place is, again, the worst. Disrespectful. (This is not the first time I came here.) read more

This is my neighborhood post office. It's small and dirty and old, but I like it. I have never once had a problem with the staff, the lines are rarely long and the other customers are always friendly and helpful to each other. I also like that there was no waiting list to get a PO Box.The reason I removed one star is that the PO Box area closes when the counter is closed. I know this is probably for security reasons, but can't they at least be open on Sunday during the day? read more

Would give this thing negative stars if I could.... went here twice, mostly because I live down the street. The staff here is the epitome of lazy and incompetent. Asking them to do a very simple thing that other post offices do without much ado is too hard for them, like hand-stamping wedding invitations. I've already filed a complaint with the postal inspector... it makes me sad and angry that these people truly don't care about their work or the service they are being paid to do. I'd rather see this postal office shut down and I have to drive to the next nearest one in Noe Valley than know that my tax dollars continue to fund some the laziest staff I have ever come across. read more

Dropped off a pkg with a prepaid label. Asked the agent for a receipt that I dropped it off, she said this was not possible. What she should have said is, " I am too lazy to scan this" or "this facility does not scan packages, so you will not be able to track this until it is delivered". FedEx or UPS from now on. I love this location. I have been an Etsy/eBay/amazon seller for the last seven years. This location has great hours, is open on saturdays and has a wonderful and dedicated service team. I come in weekly and the employees are so kind and helpful with all of my shipping needs. In particular, Ben and Norma are my two favorite employees! They always joke around with me and make the whole experience much more fun and speedy! Highly recommend this location is you are a frequent shipper! Come around 1-3 and there is never a line!!! read more

Well, I learned that because this post office is understaffed cannot process passport. I learned this after waiting 10 minutes in line. The clerk gave me a number to call to fix their staffing problems and she asked me to complain about this. I called the number as advised to get some attention with the result that the post master was asked to take care of the situation and it seems like they did not like it. Oh yeah, the Filipino lady behind the counter also suggested that I'll go to another post office 10 blocks away. The situation got really unprofessional to the point that I got yelled by this Filipino lady behind the counter and I leave the rest to the best of your imagination. Around holidays time expect a minimum of 30-40 minutes wait. read more

OMG. The slowest Postal Office ever. I remember I wait in line so many times and takes a half an hour or sometimes more to get things sent. So many people ask so much questions. I believe majority of people that go there has never sent anything in their lives. That is why sometimes I rather go to the Financial District or Embarcadero post offices even though I live a few blocks closer to that one to get my things sent quick and to not wait in line as long. read more

Sadly, in the months since I wrote this review, they've removed the automated mailing machine, and also taken out the small stamp machine on the wall (the one you could buy one stamp from instead of a pack of 10 or 20). Now there's only the one stamp-vending machine, so its odds of being broken are fairly high. Makes even more sense to head off to the contract store when the line's long now. read more

Just came here to check the hours and was kind of shocked at how low the rating is! So I'll chime in as someone who's had a handful of perfectly-acceptable experiences mailing things here, and one genuinely above-and-beyond experience getting passport stuff taken care of a couple years ago (2014). From what I understand, they no longer do passports at this location, but at the time, they were incredibly helpful with that complicated process--even though we were "those people" who needed to get a passport photo of our then six-month-old baby. Anyway, it really is unfortunate that the line can be slow and that sometimes peoples' mail gets lost, but in my experience the people who work here are pleasant and efficient. read more

The staff here try to find out what your needs are and address them as efficiently as possible. They have always been helpful with any questions I might have. read more

Looks like a lot of people have had great customer service here recently sucks that I got the grumpy employee of the day. I'm actually writing this review for my husband who went in there today to drop off 12, 24x18x6 boxes, while I waited in the car. The clerk kept shaking his head every time he brought in more boxes then he said "This is crap" to my husband. He was extremely rude and yelled at my husband in front of everyone. Telling him that the post office cannot handle this large of a drop off. And that we have to go to the Post Office on Bryant. My husband who actually worked for the post office as a carrier for 9 years in Santa Cruz, told him that his job is not difficult to pick up the 5-7lb boxes and put them in the back. It would be nice if he told us how many boxes they could accommodate, since it's news to my husband that there's a limit on how many boxes we can bring in. This is bullshit and sounds like he was just being a lazy employee. read more

eh, it's a post office. it has a line. it isn't an intolerable one. when i was there, they got through it surprisingly quickly. kind of like how there's always a line at the walgreen's i go to but somehow they manage to make it magically disappear. cashiers and workers are as polite as can be expected, if not more than one expects (i have yet to find a post office where everyone is smiling and it's some weird 1950's scene.) anyhow, i had some government-type documents to mail and the lady was helpful in guiding me and letting me know which service i should use and why. pretty old building as well, but it's fine by me. better than the one on bryant street. i'll have an update if my documents actually DON'T get to their intended location. hahaha. read more

They lose mail. It's happened to me twice, now. And it's happened to a good friend. Don't mail to or from this post office (South Van Ness and 23rd St., San Francisco) if you value your packages. our mailbox loads from the top for four apts. the mail person told me he hated these boxes when I complained to him for tearing up our mail shoving it in. I showed him the magazine box under the mailboxes but he doesnt use it. today was the last straw, came home with mail on the ground and torn and mutilated mail in my box. This is one angry mailman.
