I want to be 100% transparent about my time here at SUI so I will also speak about some things that can be improved on. I believe that better communication and full transparency will take this program to the next level. Yes, I finished the program and got my EMT certificate, but I was not very satisfied with the learning experience. I went into the course because I actually wanted to understand the material and build a strong foundation, not just pass the exams and get certified. A lot of the time, I felt like I was teaching myself. The program is obviously accelerated, but the bigger problem for me was the lack of structure. The first half of the day was usually lecture and the second half was skills, but we would sometimes finish an hour or more early and just be told to work on homework. I would have much rather used that time to review difficult topics, practice scenarios, or ask questions. Our main instructor was newer, and you could tell at times. The lectures were not very helpful for me, and most of my actual learning came from studying independently using the materials they gave us and other resources. Some of their study materials were useful, but practice exams were often released only the night before or a couple nights before an exam. That made it hard to use them to actually learn the material instead of just figuring out what was likely to be tested. We were also required to buy a workbook that cost around $100 and complete assignments from it, but the work was mostly just signed off without being seriously reviewed. That made it feel like expensive busywork. There were also some things that made the class feel less professional than I expected, including entertainment clips or movies being played during downtime while people were trying to study. I eventually brought some of my concerns to management. To their credit, they were receptive, and I did notice more effort and organization toward the end of the program. The skills instructors were probably the strongest part of the course. They were helpful and did a much better job preparing us for practical testing and patient assessments. So overall, if you just want an accelerated route to certification and you are good at studying on your own, this program may work for you. But if you are choosing an EMT program because you really want to learn the material and feel confident in what you are being taught, I would personally look into a longer program or compare other schools first. I got the certificate, but if I were choosing again based purely on the quality of the education, I would probably go a different route.

She goes very fast paced and does not take time to explain anything. She goes by the book and doesn't explain how things really work in the real world. And she comes off as a very, very rude. She doesn't like it when people ask questions because it interrupts her teaching. She will give lecture all day long and then assign an exam at 10 PM at night after being in school all day and she won't let you know that there's an exam until the end of the day. Now working in the field as a CNA there is so much that I did not learn and I absolutely blame the school for not having me prepared.

Some students were there longer than me. I'd recommend clarifying this during the admissions process if you plan on attending this school. The instructors were overall great. Some would go out of their way to schedule one on one tutoring sessions if a student needed it. I really felt that I had support if I needed it. The legal instructors were very knowledgeable in the field and taught skills and tasks that are used in the legal field. I had the pleasure of attending while Linda Gardenhire was Department Chair and then Eric Fernandez when she retired. They were both amazing and supportive throughout my whole program. They were very personable and I felt like they genuinely really cared about the success of their students. I happened to have Eric as an instructor for Contract Law and Advanced Legal Research and Writing. These classes were definitely a challenge for me, I made sure to meet with Eric early on and communicate this to him. He did a great job clarifying and helping me through the challenging assignments. He really pushed me out of my comfort zone and challenged me to be better. The class material mirrors what paralegals do in the field and will help prepare anyone looking to succeed in the legal field.

Not even a month into it and I was regretting and dragging my feet to in everyday. My 1st instructor taught use more about his personal life then the actual subject. Didnt follow the way he was supposed to teach us whiched caused a big issue for those who were going to go into the next class. He passed everyone regardless. Had a motor project and passed us all even though none of us got the motor to work. He didnt really even try to get it running. You don't learn in the traditional way. You don't learn from A-Z. They will throw you in wherever the class is currently at. So you maybe learning the very end of the book before you even learn the beginning of the book which is bad if you are completely new to the subject and don't have any knowledge or experience. You don't jump into HVAC right away which is normal. You'll be doing electrical theory but my instructor didn't even go over HVAC electrical. I was learning more how to be an electrician then HVAC technician. Once I got into HVAC I was told in was going to take my certification test at the end of that month. Which is beyond stupid. They gave me a study packet to help prepare me for the test. By the time I had to take the test I failed of course but wasnt worried. Was told i had 3 attempts to take the test. The very next day after I took the 1st test i was told to take it again, and again I failed. The day after the 2nd test I was told to take it again and use the study packet because the head of the campus wants us to pass. Probably to give him a bonus or something like that. Well I'm not going to pay them to cheat on my future. I tried to talk them but the head of the campus "wasn't in today". I tired to call and kept going in to talk to him about why they wanted me to cheat. But kept getting the same response. I called them and told them I was dropping out because the cheating was the last straw. Then it seemed like they actually cared about my problem. I finally got calls back from the school and told them why I was leaving but the lady seemed not to really be paying attention and wanted me to go in and sit down with the head of the campus. I wasn't going to waste my time with them anymore. Said in was going to go in but didn't. I told them about it and they didn't seem to care until I left.

AutoCAD Civil 3D is what I use and is not an easy piece of software to learn. However, the training I received from Cad Masters has been extremely helpful in making me a productive employee for the City. Furthermore the ongoing support I've received over the years from Cad Masters has been at least as valuable as the initial training itself, if not even more so. To this very day I still consult with Cad Masters when I encounter difficult AutoCAD and Civil 3D software drafting problems; although I will admit that my calls to consult with them now are much fewer in number as I've learned so much from them about how to properly execute the functions within the software.
