Took a weekday afternoon tour recently…read more The front desk lady welcomed me cordially. To which I then asked if it would be possible to tour the gym. Within moments a young gentleman came to assist. During the tour I witnessed clean areas, with what I'd say were diehard gym members maintaining their fitness goals by either pumping iron, running on the treadmills, stretching in the group fitness room or swimming laps in the lap pool. Quite motivating. The young gentleman who gave me the tour walked me up, down several stairs and throughout all accessible areas of the gym. He was thorough and answered all of my questions without being pushy. The Pool area looked really appealing and the Ladies Locker room looked neat and well kept. The one thing lacking for me was a squash/racquetball court. I know this is not a popular take for all, but I think indoor courts could have been considered in the plans as the Waters Place area is a sprawling piece of land which could've easily accommodated at least two courts in the build. Another plus in having indoor courts is the accessibility during the colder months. Also at this stage, a racquetball court could have been converted into at least one Pickleball Court...definitely a missed opportunity. In my opinion, Owners/Contractors fail to realize that Bronxites are avid racquet sports players too. Imagine getting a great indoor court workout, and then an option to take a few laps in the pool, conveniently located within your area instead of having to trek across the bridge to another LA Fitness that has this amenity. When joining a gym you'd want these conveniences factored in to encourage you to visit as often as possible. Unsure of their membership fees, but at a glance a nice looking gym. Outdoor parking was available during the time I visited. And an indoor garage is also available. 3.5 Stars

Where do I begin? First and foremost I've never been one to review anything in my life. As a matter…read moreof fact this might be my first and last review! If something sucked I would just never go back or if I loved it I would just rave about it, but this is totally different! It's life changing so I just had to! I'm sorry for the length but you have to read this until the end! Weight has always been a sensitive topic for me! I've never been that "skinny girl" even though I've played sports and even lifted weights in high school. But last year was it for me. I turned 34 and hit my ultimate high of 203lbs standing at a mere 4'11" inches tall. Needless to say I looked like a meatball. I was borderline liver cirrhosis and I had a ton of other issues that are no longer. I was depressed and knew I had to do something! Slowly but surely I tried and lost a bit of weight but plateaued immediately and became discouraged! One day as I was getting the inspection of my car done at Jerry and Sons on Bronxdale I decided to walk around the block for "cardio" and saw my cousin who I hadn't seen in years working out. I said hi and realized she looked so different. Her body was changing. All of a sudden Thomas steps out and introduces himself! He told me to come to the gym and try it out and he guaranteed that I wouldn't regret it and boy I have to say and I'll put it in bold letter just for him "THOMAS M. YOU WERE RIGHT!" Every since my journey at Untamed Studio began on July 4th, of this year I've laughed, I've cried, and have all types of emotions! But you Thomas M. are an absolute God sent, a blessing, and a life changer!!!! I cannot begin to explain the appreciation and gratitude I have for you, YOU SIR HAVE changed my life! It's amazing because through the much hated burpees, the kettle bell swings, and pull-ups you have been much more than a personal trainer, you've been a motivator, and one of the key elements to my accomplishments! I will forever be indebted to you! I plan to keep you around forever or as long as you can tolerate me! Thomas M. my life will never be the same because of you! Thank you for being selfless, following your dreams, and thank you for caring as much as you do! To the others who have been part of my journey at Untamed Studio, John G. (Co-founder) and Ardi N., I also want to thank you for being such amazing people! I urge anyone who is sick and tired of living a poor quality of life to take a step into the Untamed Studio, I guarantee you your life will never be the same!

I began training at Untamed Studio on July 4th at my friends urging. To say that I was reluctant…read more(and scared) would be an understatement. However, I found myself there at 8am, looking in the mirror and wondering how I had gotten there. How had I let my body take over control to the point where I no longer recognized the person looking back at me? The hard work began that very day and I have not looked back since.   While I have encountered a few of the trainers over the past two months, this review is specifically for our personal trainer, Thomas M. (also co-founder and owner of the Studio). He has been a source of strength for me and I will forever be grateful to him for his tough love in the gym but also for his words of encouragement on days that I felt that I could no longer move forward. He constantly stays by our side during our workouts, fixes our form and makes sure we are doing the exercises correctly to limit the chance of injury.   The gym has a plethora of classes and trainers to satisfy anyone no matter what your physical goal. There are personal training opportunities as well as group bootcamp classes. Alongside Thomas, John G. is the other co-founder and owner of the Studio. He is an added layer of support and serves as very needed comedic relief. Another trainer we were introduced to was Ardi N. who covered one of Thomas' sessions. He didn't skip a beat and trained us as if we were his own, regular clients. The degree of care behind keeping a client on schedule speaks to the professionalism and commitment of the Untamed team. Your body and your mind will be pushed to places it has never been before. There are days when you feel damn proud of yourself and there are days when you want to drop your equipment and walk out. However, the one consistent thing is the unwavering support from the trainers at this gym.  It's remarkable what a little squeeze of the shoulder and a simple, "come on, you got this" will do for you.   If you are genuinely ready to change your life, leave your ego at the door and put in hard work, sweat and the occasional tears, this is the place for you. Thank you Untamed Studio and specifically Thomas M. for helping me find the strength I never knew I had and quite simply, for changing my life mentally and physically.

It's very clean and I love the fact that they have a separate area for the massage and tanning room. It very peaceful in the massage area as it should be. They have Cameras where the lockers are they have a sign saying if you have valuables this is the place to put them. I like that a lot. The staff at the front desk are professional and kind and helpful. The check in area is on the second floor of the building. Now you can start your workout by climbing the stairs to the second floor or take the elevator. So since I'd never been here before I took the elevator. Now that I've worked out I'll be running down the stairs to end my workout session. I'll be coming here more often. The bud is right at the corner #4 and the #6 train is also at the corner which makes it so convenient for everyone. Thank you so much for your quick response lol that was fast by the time I got home you addressed my review. I'm happy about that I meant to mention the massage chairs and the aqua massage. At the end of my work out I'm on both machines. It's a great ending to a long day.

For that I take my business elsewhere.

I come here five times a week that's literally fifty cents just reach my fitness goal and be healthy. One month of a gym membership to help you stay fit is cheaper than one McDonald's meal that aids to health problems. During lock down this was the only thing keeping my mental health from slipping away and If this gym wasn't on the parkway I would be miserable and so would a lot of people. Most times it's the people that shape an establishment. If everyone that signed up, wash they a** before coming or washed up in the clean and never used showers they provide, didn't talk loudly on the phone while on the treadmill and actually wiped down equipment after using --It would literally have 5 stars. Appreciation is a mindset, those who don't appreciate personal growth and the ability to use varies machines at a $10/ monthly rate when with inflation has brought the price of everything else up is ridiculous.

The new manager has not maintained the equipment, locker rooms or bathrooms the way Vince used to. Over a week ago an "out of order" sign appeared on one of the two stalls in the only men's restroom. No repair person ever came to fix the problem. Today, an "out of order" sign appeared on the other restroom stall door. That means there are no sit-down toilets available to the men who use the gym, only the urinals. I went to the front desk and asked to speak to the manager. The staff member at the desk told me the manager was not in. I went home and called 311 and turned in a complaint for the conditions. I have worked out at other Planet Fitness locations including the one at Carle Place, Long Island, New York as well as the one in Inverness, Florida. Those locations are immaculate. Their equipment is brand new and well-maintained. There are enough duplicates of each type of machine that one does not have to wait in line. Perhaps the corporate executives of Planet Fitness have decided that, since my gym is in the Bronx, it is not as important as their gyms in those predominantly white areas. Whatever the reason, the White Plains location of Planet Fitness is one of the most poorly run franchises in the chain. At the very least, they need to fire the current manager and hire another person like Vince who identifies with the clientele and cares about providing them with the best facility and service possible.

The place is a little cleaner but it's a lot smaller, also there are no showers at the new location. I always used to go to the gym before work or before going out. Now that's not possible any more. There's only one ring instead of two as well. John's gym used to be a really affordable place to be a member of. Not any more. The rates have almost doubled. I understand it's because the rent of the new location is higher then the old spot, but I'm not the kind of person who would pay a lot more money for a lot less gym and services. I miss the old building that was falling apart, that could cave in at any moment.

So, I am going to be a bit bias since I have a lot of history with this gym and have been apart of…read moreit since I was a teeny, tiny, baby when it was a block down in a now abandoned little warehouse like building and it was called "Jeromes Boxing Gym". This gym and Gleasons in Brooklyn have been a mainstay of my fathers since he trained and went pro. His name is Angel Torres and was a Golden Gloves winner. Plus my aunt co-owns the place and well, more exposure ain't going to hurt no one. AND I will keep it one hunned with my opinions. Lets get down to some detail: Decor/Atmosphere: Depending on who you are you're going to love or hate it. This gym is by no means pretty. No towel service, no colorful, beautiful, organic fragrances of citrus oil and aromic scents. Its straight up sweat, blood, guts, tears, pain of gain and hardwork and thats what it smells like. There's pictures of boxing greats plastered throughout. The showers work but are dark and dank, the locker rooms arent pretty either. Personally, I prefer these types of gyms. There's two boxing rings, battle ropes, and some extra equipment scattered throughout. Nothing crazy. Very bare bones. A good number of heavy bags too. About 6-8, maybe more. Its not a very big gym either. Pretty small and on top of a Spanish restaurant. Clientele: The demographic of the place is probably more eclectic than you would imagine for the area the gym is in. You have lots of Latino and Black people who are boxing for greatness or just for fun and/or Black and Latino kids who are keeping occupied to stay off the streets. A good number of Albanians. You also have your White collared groups of people who come in for a workout, White people who work in the area, the humble athletes to name a few. Its a good group of people that come here regardless. Since its small, you get to know people a little better and you get to know the regulars. Trainers: A lot of the trainers here are old school and have lots of knowledge and experience. Unfortunately, some of them are also old and out of shape. On the flip side, you have my father who is 52 and in bad ass shape, and still bust younger folks up in sparring. I kid you bot. There's other good trainers but I don't know much about them, so I don't want to false advertise. Location: This gym is in a pretty convenient area. Take the 2/5 train to 149th 3rd ave and walk about 2 blocks down to the gym. From 149th and 3rd Ave, you can be in midtown (West if you take the 2) Manhattan in about 20 minutes. Maybe even 14th street in 20 minutes a little more or less. For instance, The 5 train can get you down to 14th street/east side a lot faster than the two since there's fewer stops. The area is pretty sketchy and not pretty but if you're not there late at night, then there shouldn't be a reason to be deterred. Though its in the South Bronx, its not far from Manhattan and a quick train ride off the 2/5 and even 4. Cost: Its 10 dollars if you want to train and just workout and hit the bag for a day if yoh want personal training and all that, you can hit up the gym. I honestly don't know more than that but I can update later. Misc: If you go, ask for Angel Torres. He is a little bit of a screwy Louey and is flighty and all over the place but be knows his shit when it comes to boxing and he will make you work and push you. -Say hi to my aunt Frances. -This gyms holds lots of events for certain causes Verdict: I give this a 3/5. I love the gritty, bare bones, no non-sense atmosphere but there are some kinks that can be fixed, a little more attention to detail in certain areas. I say stop by if you want some real deal boxing atmosphere. If you want to be pampered and spoiled, I say loom else where. If anything, at least give it a chance and stop by. Feel it out. Thanks.
