    The real deal.

This is the real deal. If you can't climb a ladder, stay on the dock. If you want to give your kids an indication of how hard life can be, this is the place to bring them. They will never complain about their room size again. I question if we could even get a crew from the current generation as the living conditions on this vessel are amazingly stark and harsh by today's standard. It's a testament to the men that served on her and the perilous world we lived in during WWII. It is air conditioned inside so you can take your time and enjoy the fantastic displays and live, in a very small way, the experience of serving on such a vessel. It will either inspire you and your kids or appall them, but showing them is essential. Well done to the Museum for keeping her afloat. I can't imagine how you do it.

We visited the ship to do the tour and then returned to partake in their weekly happy hour. The ship is a beauty . During your self guided tour there is audio that plays as you walk through the guts of the ship and see where the crew worked , slept , ate and prayed (there are even some former crew who chose their final resting place to be on the ship - their urns are located in the chapel). To fully enjoy your time , plan to spend 30 minutes to an hour touring the ship (there's lots to read so this may make your tour longer). The ship closes at 4pm and on Thursday , Friday , Saturday they open back up to offer a sunset happy hour. Be aware , they do not serve liquor (or at least didn't when we visited ) and the beer and wine selection is not the best . However , the sunset views are breathtaking and you get to drink and view the sunset on an over 80 year old highly decorated Coast Guard cutter! You can also bring your own food on board or purchase snacks from their bar. They do have a paid parking lot and there's also a playground with public restrooms nearby . Definitely worth a visit !

Great place to watch the sunset but if you think you'll want a seat rather than standing, you'll want to arrive early as they fill up pretty quickly. They do have happy hour but do not expect high quality wines. Service is good. The staff is very friendly and welcoming.

My wife and I visited the Ingham on our honeymoon and would definitely visit again if only to support the cause. Ships like this need to be preserved for the public to see what keeps this great countries freedom! The Ingham is a great representation of the men, women and their hard work and we highly recommend adding this to your list of stops when in Key West!

Very cool ship & very nice people! A lot of really neat and important history! Go check it out

I'm kinda a history nerd, so I had to check this out. That being said, I started to get a little bored and claustrophobic because it's a long, self-guided tour and it's still a work in progress. However, I learned some interesting things about the history of this ship and other US Coast Guard tidbits. They've done a good job maintaining the ship and keeping it looking its best from the time it was used the most. It also has a number of historical displays from crucial maritime moments. I ended up taking a ton of photos because, while the stories didn't always grab me, the ship itself is very beautiful and complex. I probably wouldn't come back, should I return to Key West, but I think it's worth a look for first timers.

Old coast guard boat! Must see.

A must see stop in the Keys! This boat is a time capsule with lots of history! Fun self guided tour. Like any normal vessel, there are steep steps and narrow passage ways. It's not something you see every day. Takes about an hour to fully see. Price is great approximately $10). On some nights, wine, beer and sangria are served while the sun sets. Great view! Right next to the boat, you'll find the Keys Eco-discovery center ( free parking and free entrance).

There is a lot of history here. To think it was rescued from the scrapyard is scary. If you are a military history buff, don't miss this.

Although a bit overpriced ($17.50 for adults) for the size and scope of this museum, Mel Fisher's Maritime Museum in Key West, Florida is an important stop for those interested in maritime archaeology and shipwrecks. This museum, which opened in 2000 in a historic building, focuses on the artifacts from a few 17th-century shipwrecks, especially on the historic find of the Spanish galleon ship, the Nuestra Senora de Atocha which sunk off the Florida Keys in 1622. The history behind the ship, the wreck, and its discovery are all incredible so do a deep dive on your own. As for the museum part of it, the exhibits are pretty permanent - this isn't the kind of place with rotating exhibits - and they could use a dusting/refresh. The gift shop up front is decent, the staff were nice, and the section that focused on the slave ship, Henrietta Marie was a sobering at the cruel treatment and conditions human beings subjected to other human beings. I had a good visit, spending about an hour here in all, and was pleased to have crossed it off my very long list of museums I want to visit!

What resonates with me most is the African American exhibits on the second floor. This is the most comprehensive collection of African American artifacts in North America . Not only does he encompass the stories of west Africa , he highlights the Caribbean countries like Haiti and Cuba for example to show the magnitude of the trans Atlantic slave trade . This stories shall and will be continue to be told at places like this . I strongly encourage the visit , this museum does what few museums do. It makes you sit with history not walk past it . This place unearthed more than shipwrecks it showed how interconnected we are . It also showed us that One plaque in the exhibit caused me to pause. It read, "Slaveholders feared that an entirely free Black population in the U.S. would overwhelm the whites. Many believed the races could not mix." The irony of such thinking still hangs heavy in the air. Not because the fear was grounded in truth, but because it was steeped in control. It's not the mixing of races that has ever been the threat. It is the liberation of the oppressed, the unmasking of truth, the breaking of silence. I think it's important that all communities that have been marginalized are allowed to have there history spoken on in its truth no matter how ugly it is with no edits

Useful reviews and kind compliments sent by complete strangers? I'll take that any day! OK now more about the museum itself: The Tennessee Williams Museum is a bright modern (circa 2021) space dedicated to the life and literary works of the famous playwright. The small building houses an impressive collection of material ranging from prints of TW's paintings, first edition books, playbills, videos of his interviews and a model of his home in Key West. Admittedly I'm a major fan, but the place would probably appeal to just about anyone with some interest in Key West's colorful history. Admission is reasonable ($7 for adults and $5 for seniors), with discounts available for pre-booking on the museum website. Friendly helpful staff member allowed me to linger a good long while with no hassle. The gift shop has some great finds as well. A unique and wonderful place all around.
