With that being said I am astounded with how professional and courteous the people in this office are. Not once was I scowled at, shunned, talked down to, or otherwise harassed during my brief visit here. In fact I was served promptly after being greeted with a polite hello and smile from the two women working the front desks. The waiting area is awfully small which seemed a wee bit overambitious but luckily I never had a chance to sit down. The woman who helped me with my air conditioner disposal needs was nice, patient, and clear in what I had to do even outlining a plan for getting my money back should someone take it for scrap in the night. I respect that. This may well be the best government experience I've ever had. Fast, courteous, and stress-free. I think that's worth Yelping about.

Let the ranting begin…read more The Public Works Department has been a complete disgrace during the winter months, preferring to hand out a few arbitrary tickets than taking care of its own issues. During the winter of 2014 when Mother Nature's bestowal of raging snow and treacherous ice have become consistent tormentors, the City of Cambridge Public Works Department has... NOT ticketed my neighbors and local business who leave their sidewalks impassable. NOT taken care of my local parks which people walk through all the time. The pathways are often not plowed and not de-iced. NOT cleared the sidewalks around those parks. NOT dealt with sidewalks around public buildings such as libraries. I guess this Department is NOT concerned with getting a lawsuit one of these days because if they keep up with this appalling lack of care, someone is going to have a bad fall and the Department's lawyers are going to have a big job to focus on, especially if it is some sweet little old lady with a walking stick and a pissed off attitude hiding under a wrinkled smile. (One of my neighbors comes to mind.) Next time I write about the disgraceful "work" that the City of Cambridge does, it will be regarding the efforts to report rats who are living in another neighbor's basement. But that is another story.

To top it off, it was street cleaning day so half the spaces were gone. They were efficient and gave me a decal after presenting the documentation. I had no problems once I parked my car and arrived there.
