Wow! 2/1/2026. Quiet day, one person working there, helping a customer. Woman with glasses. Im not eavesdropping but I hear a lot of hostility in the person working. As she finishes with the customer, she looks at me and informs me that the line starts at the other side of the store. I am the only one in the store. I apologize, and approach the counter. She says "no, walk around"... so I do, and then she shouts "next!", and I then walk to the counter. I state I am here to purchase some stamps. Her response is "cant you read the sign, we dont sell stamps here". Next to her is a piece of paper written in sharpie that says "no stamps". I say oh no! Where can i get some stamps? Her response is "go somewhere else, theres a store on sheffield but theyre closed today". So I asked where I could buy some stamps, to which she replied "not my problem. Next!" As a customer had arrived with a return. As she told this customer she cant ship the package because they have the wrong box, I stood to the side googling where else I could buy stamps. I left after a couple minutes, and did not see the woman working the counter meaningfully contribute to society while I was there. I appreciate that usps allows people like this to remain employed somewhere,but as other reviews show, this is a consistent issue that has been present for years and will likely not be addressed. Do not come here, I'd expect this location to be closed in the near future due to lack of care by its staff and the company that "supports" its staff. read more

Once again - customers stuck outside and waiting for them to show up and open the doors. As of right now, they are 40 minutes late - and counting. I have counted 23 people standing and waiting. People once again standing outside waiting for someone to open the doors. Ridiculous!!! This is a consistent issue with this place - the employees don't show up on time and when they do, they walk as slow as possible to do anything. This is infuriating that these are federal employees and this is our tax dollars. Why can't the Chicago Post Office hire decent people. This place is a disgrace. If I could give this post office zero stars, I would. Graceland USPS is by far the most unprofessional, negligent, and downright disrespectful location I've ever dealt with--and I'm saying this as a paying PO Box customer. If you're thinking about renting a PO Box at Graceland USPS (Chicago, IL 60657), please read this carefully. I am a paying customer at this location, and what I've experienced here has been unacceptable on every level--and it's ongoing. Over the last week, I have repeatedly received mail in my PO Box that is clearly addressed to other people. I brought this to the attention of the employee stationed near the front entrance, and was immediately met with attitude, sarcasm, and total disregard. No apology, no assistance--just hostility. That alone is disturbing, but what followed has made me lose all trust in this location. On May 8, 2025, I came back to check on a very important Chewy package. Their app showed it was delivered at 2:32 PM to the post office. It wasn't in my PO Box. I asked this same employee--politely--if she could check. She looked at me and said, "We don't have your package, ma'am. It's not here. What don't you understand?" Not only was her tone disgusting, but she said it in front of other customers. When I mentioned that the package contained essential food for my dog, she suddenly found it in the mailroom and handed it to me. So yes--she had it the entire time and deliberately withheld it until I spoke up. Let that sink in: a USPS employee knowingly withheld my package--not once, but twice now. I've submitted formal complaints, but clearly no one has addressed her behavior, because each time I return, she acts the exact same way. And when I called USPS customer service to follow up, I was told my original complaint was already "resolved." That is false--I was never contacted, never assisted, and nothing has been done. The representative on the phone reopened my complaint and even said Graceland closed it out without doing anything. That speaks volumes. Let me be clear: this employee is either deliberately targeting me, or USPS has zero oversight at this location. And if she's doing this to me, there's no telling how many others she's lied to, dismissed, or mistreated. I have now documented everything--and if this continues, I will escalate beyond internal complaint systems. This is not a free service. I pay for this PO Box. I expect my mail to be delivered accurately and respectfully--not to be lied to, gaslit, or forced to beg for packages that are sitting in the back. If you value your time, your mail, and your peace of mind--avoid this location at all costs. read more

Shocked the ratings are so low. Visited on June 12 early afternoon for about 45 minutes as I had several packages. It was unfortunate that the self service parcel station was not operational. The postal clerk explained the machine was out of labels. Regardless, the counter staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. The best of the best. I did have to manually write addresses on the boxes and then the clerk created a label. I was reusing Amazon boxes so had areas where placing an address was awkward. The clerk took a look and pointed out the best spots. Even customers were in good spirits, despite perhaps two or three people in front of them. Though, most the time there's no waiting. read more

Yea, Applied for passport and 2 of the ladies was nice. The one who took my application( CAROLYN) was rude and didnt ask if i was ready to take my picture..Just stood there and pointed thr camera and took picture. I hate my pic btw! This USPS really deserves 2.5 stars. While I've had some good experiences here, the bad ones are pretty bad. I stopped in most recently today around 10:30AM to mail 2 international letters. I only saw one lady working and she was sorting stuff in the back. We made eye contact twice and she could clearly see a line forming, with no sign of acknowledgement or "I'll be with you in a minute." Just kept sorting packages in the back at a snails pace and ignoring us. She finally came out and started helping people. Once she started helping people another lady came out of the back and joined her right away after seeing the line of people. To the First Lady - Carmella - you suck. Honestly, once you get help this place is fine but I really don't like coming here because you can almost always expect a wait and it's hard to ever know how long it will be. Also there are employees like Carmella that clearly hate her job and want to take it out on you for disturbing her day. read more

The reviews are all right here, don't bother! This lady was SO rude to me. I was carrying at 20 cube box and had another item I was shipping that required a bubble mailer. There was 1 bubble mailer available in their stand and she kept telling me I needed to go look over there and get back in line. I was asking if they had any other mailers because there was NONE that would fit what I was mailing over there. She asked what was in my other box (confirming no batteries and such) and I told her it was just clothes, she said I don't care, read the questions. Okay why'd you ask?! This post office now refuses to scan packages, even priority express if you " bought postage elsewhere". when I asked why they couldn't scan a time-sensitive package, the clerk said " because we don't know when you bought the postage", which makes zero sense. This is totally false, as the next day the clerk at the 60601 station downtown VOLUNTEED to scan a regular package when I asked where I should drop it off. I have always gotten insured, international and express scanned when I bought the postage at home, and there is no rule against scan. the worst part is it wasn't even busy when the clerk lied to me. just awful, I will use UPS for any overnight or insured items in the future. read more

I've never had a major issue with this location. It's not the closest to where I live, but I come here due in part to the convenient parking lot and overall, I feel that the staff is competent, cordial, and the queue (depending on peak times of course) moves at a steady enough pace. People should start entering USPS's with a more positive frame of mind. If you barge in already expecting to have a crappy experience, then you definitely will. Post Offices don't have to be horrible places. Just be a little patient with the employees and with yourself. Stop being so sensitive if they don't smile and laugh and tell you what an amazing person you are. I've definitely been to worse locations in Chicago. read more

Went there today 08/01/23 at 4:05 pm to ask a question about shipping rates. The woman while was helping me loudly reminded me that there is a line behind ( so I guess I don't count as a customer then). Then while I was still in front of her she yelled " next!" ( so she serves other customers). I think the reason she acted this way is because I didn't come for actual service, but came to ask a question. But right when we started I did tell her that I tried to find answer online but had difficulties that's why I came to the office physically. They are open on Sunday. Shout out to Carolyn who was efficient and very helpful. She was the only one working when we came in and stopped the line when an idiotic customer pitched a fit about having to stand in line just for tape. She schooled him in a professional manner and then went right back to helping customers. This location has a self service machine. You can take care of small packages and then drop them off. Good parking lot. There is a gym and a swim school so don't freak out that a million people are at the post office. read more

Absolutely mind blowing how rude, ignorant, unprofessional these employees are. They all sit there in a completely empty building with nasty attitudes. I was the only person who was there and they were too busy talking nonsense to each other to answer any of my questions. Why do we keep these government institutions and why we pay for this? Came to ship something out and I like that the place has free parking. Unfortunately because my envelope had a small piece of duck tape I couldn't send it. Two important updates, which I personally would ding a star for. * They've replaced the blue boxes outside with new style ones with just a slot. Basically no first class packages will fit anymore. Super inconvenient, but technically the old ones without the restrictor were defective so I wouldn't ding a star for this. * I've gone a couple times near closing when they've been exceptionally busy, and they will stop accepting packages for dropoff. I honestly didn't even know a post office had the option to stop accepting mail. As far as I can tell they're still the post office on the North Side that gets packages to the sorting centers the fastest. But the fact they can start refusing packages later in the day is a huge issue and means past a certain cutoff time I would avoid them. Which is especially annoying because even packages dropped off here right before closing have a good chance to make it to the sorting center before the next morning. read more

Like many Lakeview residents, we ended up here because we needed a (baby) passport, and this location is conveniently located with ample parking. I can't say that the experience went smoothly -- even though we were the only people in line for passport services, it probably took us between 90 minutes and two hours. But this was largely because we needed a photograph, and our baby didn't make it easy. (This could give rise to a new genre of "light bulb" jokes -- how many federal employees does it take to photograph a newborn baby? Four, it turns out.) What I can say is that the staff handled the whole thing with a great deal of patience, persistence, and even good cheer. We cycled through a trainee who basically gave up on the whole process when the camera's batteries died, a manager who resourcefully solved the dead-battery problem by running to the dollar store next door, and two other counter employees who managed to take the winning photo and crop it to a (hopefully) acceptable state. Maybe Chicago has some secret baby-whispering passport photographer who could have gotten the whole thing done in a few minutes, but given what we working with, I was impressed by how hard they worked to make things happen here. read more

I've had to come to this location for work the last 4 years since it's closest to the office and they have the worst customer service and biggest attitudes. Questions you ask will be answered with contempt and if you come with more than one transaction, they will let you know how much you are an inconvenience. Just when you think the USPS can't get any worse. I go in to drop off a few prepaid packages. I just need them to scan them real quick and give me a receipt. I am told that the workers are no longer allowed to do this. I have to self navigate with the self service machine, scan the packages and print a receipt. Sounds easy but believe me....it's a total headache. Why in the world can't the cashier just do it? Whatever, just another reason to avoid dealing with these buffoons. Sometimes they close FIFTEEN MINUTES early and stand at the door rudely barking that they won't help you, so beware & plan to come much before they're supposed to close. read more

No one has high expectations for the USPS. My review in summary is that I've been to better and I've been to worse (avoid the USPS at LaSalle and Lake!!) than the USPS at Ashland and Wellington. This location is large, and seems to have at least 3 staff during the week. I arrived on a Tuesday morning and was slightly frustrated to see a line 5 people deep, with 2 additional people applying for passports, which is a time consuming process. The worst part was that despite the mask requirement (and signs everywhere) the man helping me wasn't wearing a mask - he wasn't even partially wearing one...no mask in sight! Despite this, he was a friendly guy who helped me and offered friendly help, but it makes one feel uncomfortable and unsafe in an unventilated building. read more

I had to ship a bunch of stuff, some of it heavy. I came here twice and got the same clerk both times. She was extremely rude and surly, but seemed to know what she was doing more than a clerk I worked with for another part of the shipment at another post office branch. It remains to be seen whether my stuff shows up in any kind of usable condition. This clerk muttered to herself and her coworkers about how heavy my boxes were the whole time, refused to engage in any pleasantries, refused to make eye contact, threw my boxes around wth what appeared to be deliberate intent to be rough, and of course didn't ask me if I wanted to buy some stamps at the end, which I'm pretty sure she was supposed to do. The parking lot here is a really nice feature. I think this branch may have had similar rudeness issues in the past because during my first visit a greeter came out, whose sole job seemed to be customer relations out among the people, she wasn't behind a counter. She was just chatting and offering to answer questions if needed. She was the only friendly person in the place. All of the clerks were looking at me like if just run over their dog.
