Not having an appointment, which I totally forgot you can do, I walked in and was promptly helped. The walk in process was explained to me, and I thought it couldn't be that bad, and it wasn't. From entering to exiting on a Thursday around noon it took about 1hr 15min. That isn't the best part. The lady who helped me took the time out to explain how to get my CDL reinstated. Then she went on to ask if I was a veteran and would I like that added to my ID. In the end, I left feeling like I had learned something, and I dont know her name, but I want to thank her for being patient and giving me info I didn't even know I needed. This is only my second time using this DMV, but it seems like a change of location has brought about a change in attitudes from the customer service. Speaking of location, I like it. It seems roomier and cleaner. The only con I could see is that they don't use the take a number system anymore, so I found myself having to move just to hear my name called. People were coming in having loud conversations to the point you couldn't hear clearly. If I could change one thing it would be for Louisiana to allow for most DMV functions to be done online to the point the only reason you need to go to the DMV is to take a road test. They should also provide a truck for the CDL road test at the DMV. This would allow them to focus on training and customer service.

You like them big words? Yeah you do you dirty little nerds!!! The main lobby interior also really gives them "you're in a courthouse" vibe!!! However, some of the courtrooms don't have that classic feel because they've been updated. I love that dark wood and foreboding aura that old school courtrooms give off. That vibe let's you know some heavy shit goes down in here. That justice is being handed out!!! There is only street parking around the courthouse but there is a parking garage 2 blocks away from the courthouse in Regions Tower. Security can be a pain as they always make you take off your belt to go through the metal detector, even if your a freaking lawyer. Just a pain in the ass really. All in all I don't mind appearing here because it's a cool building and when you pull up you know you are about to walk into a courthouse.

The officer was courteous but very intuitive. He gave me a field sobriety test and ultimately I passed. when it was all said and done, I do appreciate his professionalism from the start. Even though I was not intoxicate, he gave me the opportunity to prove that fact. When completed he let me go on my way. I know the police constantly get negative publicity but at the eod, they are doing their job. I do wholeheartedly appreciate the fact that I was given the opportunity to show I wasn't intoxicated by this office. I have to say I have never been a huge fan of cops. Maybe it's just resentment from my dad being…read morelaw enforcement but that's another story. Since moving to Shreveport/Bossier in October I have heard horror stories about how "bad" the cops are in Bossier City and how they will bring you in for jaywalking etc. but I will say this today has been the worst day I've had in a long time and it was the kindness of two Bossier City cops that have made me smile. This morning my girlfriend and I were cut off and forced into the guardrail on the 220 exit ramp. She was historical because it's her brand new dream truck and trying to figure out what to do and what not. The Corporal who responded and I wish I remembered his name could not have been more helpful and supportive offering options and solutions, continually asking if she was ok because her shoulder was injured I mean this was by far the best experience I have ever had with a police officer and it was probably the most stressful situation I've had in a long time. Flash forward a couple hours and I'm sitting at gateway on airline and Officer Gray walks in and talks to the front desk apparently an elderly gentleman had a fender bender and busted a tire and officer Gay escorted him into the gateway parking lot and Convinced the staff to change the tire for this gentleman only because he is not allowed to do it or he would have himself. I am so happy today to call Bossier City my home and proud of my police department and it's people.

It is a 2 story affair with 2 elevators and stairs to the 2nd floor. On the main floor is the City Marshal's office as well as the Civil and Criminal Clerk of Court's offices. I am in this courthouse on a regular basis dealing with mainly criminal defense work. The court rooms are well appointed and even though modern provide the necessary feel of gravitas to let you know you are in fact in a courtroom and not in some sanitized box that could be anything. There are 5 courtrooms in all with the large courtroom (#1) being on the main floor with the other 4 courtrooms and Judge's Chambers being on the second floor. Well maintained and overall nice courthouse.

The town once went by the name Lick Skillet if ever the truth was told many towns of the era were called by that same name all boasting tales of the name's origin, from the food being so good or so scarce people would lick the skillets or the only scraps left to feed the dogs was for them to lick the skillets, I am sure the truth lies somewhere in between the myths. Although Bethany abandoned the name Lick Skillet, many of the town's features retain the name such as the Lick Skillet Plantation, a thoroughbred breeding farm, and the Lick Skillet Old Time Store. There is also a Lick Skillet Arts and Crafts Festival which includes live bands, food vendors, and exhibits by local artists and craftsman. Bethany was founded in 1840 long before barbed wire fences and paved highways marked the historic road that eventually became known as the "Old Shreveport Road" it originally was part of a prehistoric trade route from Dallas to Shreveport (not named towns at the time) established by the Caddo Indians. On the north side of the road heading east at the state line is a Marker placed in 1936 that reads: "Site of Bethany - A thriving town of the fifties - through it passed the Shreveport road over which many emigrants entered Texas". There not much left of Bethany now but lots of memories, I'd say by the looks of it the historic value exceeds the town's net worth, but I'm sure those that remain like it that way.
