This is the main branch of the Shreveport City Library system. It's housed in the old federal…read morebuilding which used to be the Post Office and Court House. It's a very stately building and is located in the middle of the downtown area. The staff was friendly and helpful. As a visitor to the area, I didn't know what type of system they had to be able to use the Internet. But they had a guest pass system that allowed me to gain access to the Internet. I was a bit bummed that the children's department was as small as it was. I was surprised that it wasn't larger. Being that this was the main library for the Shreveport system, I was surprised that the collection wasn't as up to date as you would think a main library would be. For instance, I found old tax guides on the shelf from the early 1990s. Tax laws change yearly so keeping anything more than several years old is just obsolete after a while. I was also surprised that I was unable to locate any library catalog computers. Since I was there with my dad, we decided to make the trip worthwhile beyond just checking email. We decided to see if they had any books on Clementine Hunter, the primitive artists that we learned about at the Melrose Plantation. I looked for any computers that said library catalog, but couldn't find any. So I just decided to use the Internet computers to do my search. Thankfully, I know my way around a library catalog and quickly located some biographies on Clementine. A good thing to note about this library is that they are a government depository, meaning they have a government documents collection. So, if you're researching congressional hearings or legislation, you can find information here. Also, they have a petroleum documents collection for your oil industry research.

As the name notes this bridge crosses the Red River which separates Caddo Parish from Bossier Parish, Shreveport from Bossier City...while the Red is a great river we all know it ain't no Mississippi, so there most likely wasn't a need for huge cool bridge... This is a utilitarian concrete bridge that takes you across the Red whether you're heading east or west on I 20... Now what's cool about this bridge is crossing it at night when all the Casinos and Riverboats are lit up and downtown Shreveport don't look too bad either.... makes for quite a site especially if you're the passenger in the vehicle crossing the bridge. If you're the driver don't be worrying about the sights and keep your damn eyes on the road cause this is a busy bridge and as on most bridges that are heavily traveled traffic tends to slow... I get a peaceful feeling when I cross it when I head back north, especially at night, cause I know somewhere in those two towns I got some compadres that will be willing to tip a few back and talk a little smack and maybe want to go chase some skirt. In a motor vehicle, at higher rates of ill-advised speeds one might actually catch their desired and sought after air and pull their very own Dukes of Hazzard, but this is again ill-advised, because we all know that what goes up, must at some point with great certainty also come down, and this is, sad to say that to stick this landing right here may be more difficult than one may have imagined or preconceived before that final press of the accelerator.
