I take Crossfit at this gym and it's been AMAZING! The instructor, Edgar, is awesome. He pushes you to be a better version of yourself, while still ensuring proper technique is being used. At first it was a great place for my daughter to train until Mr. Albert left and Owner Richard took over teens class . He is a bully , worse disrespectful instructor I ever met .He compares students in a bad mean way . He supossible teaches anti bullying classes on the summer camps he has , while he has been a big bully with some of his past students including my daughter and that is the reason why we and others left. Up to now don't know what his problem is , he keeps talking bad about my daughter with others . I guess my daughter is so important and he can't get over the fact that we left his dojo. I have been working out at this Crossfit gym for almost 4 years and it has been the best thing I have ever done for my health and fitness. I am 49 years old and I am in the best shape of my life. I think USSD Martial Arts San Clemente offers one of the best values in Orange County when it comes to Kempo karate and CrossFit. My daughter attended USSD for a year and absolutely loved it. Amazing environment for young kids. Great staff and facility, clean, organized and functional. Richard and his team have an amazing ability to connect with all attitudes and understand when and what pressure to apply to all personality types. My son can be on the shy side and we've watched him grew in confidence after every session. I highly recommend private sessions in a edition to regular classes as the one on one for beginners was exactly what our boy needed to really make him feel confident in his group sessions. Crossfit San Clemente is AMAZING! I'm 51 and I've been training there for 4 years. I've had 3 heart attacks and I need to exercise with a trainer. Hands down the best dojo in southern Orange County. We researched and tried out several before signing our son up here for karate. He was three when he started and was the smallest kid in the dojo! The staff is kind and supportive but also firm and motivating -my son needed this! I was intimidated at first because when my husband brought him in to check it out, a jiu jitsu class was going on (big burly dudes), Sensei Richard told us to come back to try out the lil dragons class. So glad we did because he loved it even though he was the smallest kid and had no idea what he was doing. If you are looking for an activity for your child bring your kid(s) and check it out. He was going through a tough time a few years back, but the training, discipline, and respect taught in the Dojo helped him so much. I purchased a very good deal through Groupon for my three-year old. We ultimately decided that she was too young for it right now. However, we had an excellent experience. The facility is clean and inviting. Parking is ample. The instructors are very enthusiastic and really great with kids. My daughter went in shy and reserved. After each session she wanted to show me all her moves and was giving high fives to her instructors on the way out the door. The kids are learning discipline and respect, while building their confidence. I like that she was able to have male and female instructors. For a three-year old girl, she does not get to interact with men much (other than dad and grandpa) because almost all teachers are female. So, she became more comfortable with men. For her to see young female instructors being strong, confident leaders is also wonderful. read more

I signed 2 of my kids, girl and boy (8 & 6) up for Little Dragons group lessons 6 months ago. They go to lessons 3 times a week and they love every minute of them. Their instructor, Ms. Meka, is firm, structured and makes the class so FUN. The class rotates between Karate and Brazilian Jujitsu. So I think it's a bargain to learn both disciplines in one class. I can't recommend USSD San Clemente more to anyone who is interested in sending their kids to learn martial arts. It's not a place where you get a prize for participating but truly earn them. And kids love putting points next to their names on the board because they KNOW they've done well. read more

My boys have been going to this Dojo for 5 years. The instructors are amazing! I was shocked to read some of the negative remarks as this is NOT a representation of Sensei Richard or his staff. Maurico, Albert, Jose and Richard are incredible role models and I am proud to have my children trained by them. I took my son in for a trail and it was shocking. The guy who did the trail was awful and rude to my son. Told him that it he did not listen to him he would put him into a bag (punching bag) and have the other kids hit and kick it until he stopped moving. I am in shock... I seriously love working out here! I started the crossfit program in November and I feel so good after each workout. The Coaches are awesome, extremely helpful and motivating. All of the members are really great too it's more of a family environment rather than walking into a 24 hour gym. You get support from each other which is something that's important, it makes working out fun. We won two free weeks at the fair. They do not honor their "free" two weeks. Richard will pressure you mercifully to buy the $50 gee before he honor his free two weeks at the fair. This guy walks around like he's so tough. He makes the kids say they are fantastic, even if they say they a good. He told my daughter who does cheer not to do a heel stretch in his studio. He has zero customer service skills and I feel sorry for anybody that go to this place to learn lessons about life. Unbelievable, and why would you go to a place that doesn't even know there prices? They say, it's around $200 and you may or may not get a deal. Really? So, he charges more for some, but others he may give discounts to (if he likes you or not) Why not have a set price for everyone? $200 a month is extremely steep. You can go to a Gracie gym for half the price and probably be treated with dignity and respect. It's why these guys get crushed in mixed martial arts! Zero ground skills! read more

I live in Northern California but drop in at CrossFit San Clemente when I'm in town. Coach Edgar is awesome. He happens to be a great athlete, but that's not what really matters. What counts is his ability to immediately see form problems and make the right suggestions to correct them. He makes CrossFit and Olympic lifting safe and helps you progress very efficiently. He also has a cool personality, which apparently sets the tone for the entire box, because every time I drop in, all the members are super friendly and engaging. Whether you're into CrossFit or not is a separate issue, but if you are or want to try it, this box is a great place. read more

My 3 year old has been taking one private lesson/week here since late June. I really didn't expect the positive changes the lessons have done to my son in such a short time but it has. Originally I signed him on after coming across several articles that pointed martial arts to improve executive function in children like the ability to self-regulate, cognitive flexibility, and cognitive memory. I also remember seeing an exhibition in which the kids as young as my son were listening and executing the moves from the teacher. Every child is different and let's just say mine is strong-wiled and fearless which as an only parent that works--is both an awesome and challenging trait combination. Since coming here my 3 year old noticeably improved his willing to follow my instructions ex when i remind him to pick up his toys, wash his hands etc. His mood is happy and positive. There was a correlation with his improved behavior at preschool and this place because the period that we didn't attend there was a rise in school reports. I'm not sure what the below complaint was about because the staff is professional and friendly. Mr Albert has ALOT of patience and my son responds very well to him. I'm really sorry I have to move to another city soon and won't be able to bring him here anymore. But if my job ever moves me back I'll be sure to return here. read more
