I hired Utah Basement Systems to install a sump pump in a rental property basement. After several delays (pump was on backorder, installer's truck "broke down") and NO communication from the office about these delays) ... On the day of installation, the tenant told the installer that the pump was going to be installed in the wrong corner (not the affected area with the water intrusion) and she questioned that it should be installed in the opposite corner and he said "that's where I've been told to put it". He refused to call and check with his office. Shortly after the work was completed, I had the property manager check on the effectiveness of the pump and he told me it was installed in the wrong area. I have sent numerous emails and left serval voicemails for both Jim (the sales guy), Blair (the owner) and Joyce (the office manager) and I have not received a single call back or email communication. Luckily for me, I only paid the deposit to get the work started, but needless to say, I am not happy with their service. I need them to correct the issue and install the pump in the correct location. I should have checked the BBB website prior to hiring them as they have numerous complains (yet somehow they have an A rating). I guess I'll add one more to the list. 10/20 Update: The owner, Blair has contacted and I am awaiting his options for resolution. 11/6 Update: No response thus far. 11/7: Update: Received email from Jim - "I received your email from October 3rd ..." STAY AWAY. I had to coerce them into doing the work for me- they took my $2000 deposit and disappeared for weeks. They left my basement a mess and the concrete was left uneven when they finally came. The pump started having issues after a few years, and though they claim they have a "lifetime warranty" you really need to read the fine print. The list of what they cover includes ONE basic thing, the list of what they don't cover fills a few pages. When I finally got someone to come out after many many calls and pleading, he said there was nothing he could do. I ended up figuring out what was broken myself and using YouTube tutorials and neighbors to fix it. I can count on one hand the amount of times they actually filled a promise or called me back. They caused me more stress over the last 5 years than any other company or issue has in my entire life. It's so much easier to rent a jackhammer and figure out how to do the work yourself- and it costs 1/10th of the price. They were nice, the problem is that the crawl space floor is not even after they were done putting the pump and plastic. I wish they had try to level the floor a little better specifically by the entrance. read more

I currently work for Blair and in the last 5 months that I've been here, I've seen the good with the bad. We have had our issues with people (employees and customers alike) and like any small company, we do our best to keep things running smoothly. Yes, we have dropped the ball on some customers & have disappointed people. But we have never done anything, negatively or intentionally, to misrepresent ourselves and do a horrible job. When we have made a mistake, we have done everything we could to remedy the problem. When given an opportunity, the men & women that I work with, go above & beyond to make sure that the customer is left with a COMPLETELY finished project that they are happy with the end result. So, yes (like any company, we have had our share of problems, but we try as we might to make sure that everyone is happy with the end result. Please give us a chance, when looking for someone to help with their water issues, & in the end we will make sure that you are excited for the finished product. Don't use this company! We contracted Utah Basement Systems to come to our home to install a Radon Fan System. The owner, Blair Scoresby, initially came to our home, sold us on the system, and then had one of his technicians actually do the work. The technician drilled into our foundation, through our garage, and through our roof, making a mess and causing damage as he went along. In our attic he cut an electrical cord and crudely spliced in a 110-outlet for the Radon Fan to plug into. This caused two of our outside outlets to stop working. The electrical work was nowhere near code, and when we hired an outside professional to fix what Utah Basement Systems had done, he couldn't believe what he saw and how dangerous it was! Also, the technician scrapped our garage floors up moving a refrigerator, and sat on our attic door causing to fall to the ground in pieces. Utah Basement Systems did not replace our attic door (after saying they would), offer to fix our damaged floors, nor pay for the electrical work we had to have redone (after saying they would). Some of their work was sub-par work and don't always stand behind their warranty. When you call them or leave a message often no one answers the phone or takes a long time to call you back. This is the worst company I have ever ever ever dealt with in my entire life. Over a month ago I had a sewage flood that resulted in the damage of my basement. The previous owners used a plastic tile for added protection from floods. This plastic tile is unfortunately only supplied by Utah Basement Systems. The house needs it since its prone to flooding. After calling about 20 times, I finally reached someone! No, I am not exaggerating, its was about 20 times before I got a hold of someone at this company. They kept promising me every week that they will come do the tiles. Never once have they ever confirmed or cancelled the appointments. They just never showed up when they say they will. If I hear their voicemail message, "its a great day at Utah Basement Systems..." one more time I will puke! My phone literally has close to 50 calls to various numbers listed for this company. Wait it gets better...when they finally showed up to do my basement, one of the guys was completed stoned. I mean completely wasted. I refused to let them work in my house because of safety reasons. After I reported their employee was severely intoxicated, they sent someone out the following Monday. The person that showed up completed half of the job and left. No one called to let me know when or if they will come to finish it. As I write this review, I am currently waiting on a call back to see if they will show up today. I am actually in tears writing this because I am not sure what else to do or who to contact. If only they would actually call me and tell me whats going on instead of never showing up, it would go a long way. I just checked my phone bill and I have 89 outgoing calls to this company in over a month! Good luck to anyone trying to deal with them.
