Had issues with credit card from UCCU on a Friday evening. The support was lacking from UCCU customer service. credit card kept declining for rental car including after speaking to a manager. If I could give negative stars I would. I have a customer that received payment for claim. He signed the check over to the contractor who had completed the work over two months ago. When the contractor tried to deposit the check he was told no. As a representative of the company I took the check down and the manager again refused to allow the deposit. It was a couple hundred over their limit. By the time I was finished I closed out my personal account and loans I had with the Credit Union. As a business owner I would never want one of my customers to go through this because of me. The manager would take my personal check for payment of the loans. A check that he would need to verify funds on???? Will not transact business with this credit union again and I would suggest if you have a business that you avoid them too. read more

I'd give less if I could. There interest calculations are never correct and they charge "forced CPI" everytime your insurance renews but never want to credit the erroneous charges off the account. For some reason you have to have two different apps if have a credit card there. I was just on the phone waiting for a representative to help me because the app is so frustrating, and they hung up on me TWICE before I could even speak with anyone. DONT SUBJECT YOUR PERSONAL CREDIT TO THIS INSTITUTION. Here's how it works. they will send you text messages, luring you to move your current loans to them for a lower interest rate, however, after establishing your auto pay account, they will cancel your auto pay without your knowledge and continue to subject your credit score to their 30 day late notices. ( I know. that sounds childish and like I'm passing the buck). lower credit scores are costly and damaging to personal standing. they will claim to have mailed you late notices but to who knows where ? They will not except responsibility for their employee oversights and will leave you to clean up their mess. It is time consuming, and frankly unacceptable. AVOiD UCCU loan department at all costs. there are too many other good lending institutions to utilize. read more

I can not believe what has just happened. Last week UCCU ran my daughter's loan through a manager and says that as long as she puts down 10% she is approved for $7,500. A week later they tell us now they want 15% down. What a joke! So that tells me that depends on the day and the manager it can be whatever they want. Don't UCCU have guidelines that they follow? After paying my mortgage payment online successfully for several years, this month everything is all messed up. I submitted the payment EXACTLY the same way I have been doing it for years, only to have it inexplicably reversed after five days. Repeat, same thing happened. They admit that they had a software update and "this is a known problem." They suggested that I put in the wrong account number (NO, it is the same account number that is in their system and that has worked for years) and then told me to call and make a payment online. I HAVE TO DO THEIR JOB because they can't! So I did that, and they told me that I would be charged a late fee and I would have to call them AGAIN to get them to reverse it. I have done nothing wrong, but I have to spend hours trying to get my mortgage payment to go through and have them treat me like a deadbeat. It does not give me confidence when a financial institution can't get a simple loan payment right! read more

Don't use UCCU!! We got a car loan through them through the dealership when we bought our car. We went online to set up the auto pay for the loan. It appeared everything was fine. Then we started getting notices and collection calls because the auto pay didn't go through. They sent us to collections after our loan being 2 weeks late. My husband went into the credit union to personally get auto pay set up and make the missing payment. He sat down with the Assistant Manager and he gave my husband such a hard time getting the auto pay set up. When my husband told hi it seemed like they didn't really want our business the manager assured him they did. This morning we found out that our van has been REPOSSESSED!!! REPOSSESSED for apparently missing 1 more payment because the manager didn't get the auto pay set up right! No calls, no emails, no notification that the payment didn't get taken out again. We have excellent credit and have never had an issue with a bank or credit union before. This is absolutely ridiculous! read more

In late January, I noticed that our Fixed mortgage payment had gone up over $400 a month.  This was concerning so I reached out to UCCU to find out what was going on.  I was told that there was not enough in the Escrow account, so those funds had to be made up, by Emilee Tomlinson.  We had never had this problem in the past, so I was puzzled.  Then I noticed that there was over $240 + a month being taken out for Homeowners Insurance.  This was also puzzling as our homeowners insurance is only $1350 for the year, which is about $112.50 per month.  So, again, that did not add up.  Through multiple phone calls with Emilee, I found out that UCCU was paying 3 different companies homeowner's insurance, Horrace Mann for Educators (which was the correct insurance), AAA which was our old insurance and Bear River which is an insurance we NEVER had.  When Emilee mentioned Bear River, I came unglued and let her know we have never had Bear River.  She sort of brushed that under the carpet and said she would look into it.  I then began getting correspondence from Mymortgage@uccu.com (which is fine, but with no one's name attached).  Then I was not getting any responses.  Later I was told that Emilee was sick, which is fine again, however, aren't you going to pass a sensitive case like this on to someone else?  Finally, I was put into contact with John Clements who assured me things would be fixed. On February 15th I went into the 800 South branch and personally made a deposit for $2200 to make up the escrow account while the problem was being looked into so that our payment was not permanently affected.  And, I made a house payment at that same time.  I continued to watch online for the problem with our homeowner's insurance to be fixed, the Escrow account to be updated and the monthly payment amount to be fixed as well as the payment I had made in person to be posted.  None of those happened for days, so I reached out to John again.  By now, I was also working with Jennifer, I believe.  I am pretty sure she was the one who would correspond from the mymortgage@uccu.com email.  By now I am getting more than frustrated.  In the meantime, I received funds from AAA that UCCU had been paying them for 6 months after the policy had been cancelled.  I also took those funds to UCCU hoping to have the situation fixed.  Then I was told that they had found the problem and that I had not needed to pay so much money and that they would be sending me a check.  And still, the house payment I had made in person had not posted and the correction to our homeowners insurance amount was still reflecting $240+.  Through some more phone calls, I was told by John I believe, that even though I made the house payment in person, as well as the Escrow payment of $2200, all of those had been posted to principle instead of where they needed to go!!!  Oh my gosh!!! How many errors can be made.  In the meantime, I had received the check in the mail and deposited it into our checking account in February and thought things were finally resolved.  A few days later the online information was updated and things were looking to be resolved. This Monday afternoon, at about 4:30pm, I noticed an email from the mymortgage@uccu.com with not contact name or information on who to follow up with.  The email simply said, we made a mistake and refunded your account twice, BACK IN FEBRUARY, so they transferred $2200 out of our account.  This was done without a phone call or permission, nor explanation.  I was livid!!!  We have bills that have been paid and now will come up short.  And, are you kidding my, after all the errors that were made with our mortgage, they are just going to help themselves to $2200 without permission????  So, I began calling and trying to figure out what went wrong.  I was told today, again by email from John Clements, that "sorry, UCCU accidentally made another error" and refunded the escrow twice. So, that is why they helped themselves to our account.  Well, as you can imagine, I am thinking who knows what errors now and if it is really legit?  Apparently, they had refunded the amount into our Savings account in February and mailed a check later on that month.  We had not noticed they were the same amounts, and since there were so many errors, we just thought they were fixing things up.  We did not make a connection as there had been SO MANY ERRORS!!! I still cannot believe that UCCU does not train their employees to reach out personally when there has been so much chaos regarding a situation?  I cannot believe that UCCU would feel it OK to pull $2200 out of someone's account without a phone call or explanation?  And, most importantly, I cannot believe that after being with UCCU since 1990, 32 years, that more would not be done to make things right?  Needless to say, we are moving our vehicles loans and accounts ASAP and will not longer be doing business with UCCU, once we get our direct deposits rerouted to our new credit union. read more

I banked with these jerks for almost 20 years. A stray charge of $17 got through my checking to my overdraft line of credit without notice. It was 30 days late and they destroyed my credit and refused to help me. They told me they were doing me a favor by not charging me the late fees they assessed while I lose 50 points off my credit score for less than $20. Needless to say I will never bank there again ever and I have spent my personal time registering for all these review sites to warn everyone I can about what a garbage institution UCCU is. read more

UCCU illegally adds an insurance policy to every loan customer every six months even after they are shown proof of a existing policy. They refund only half of the stolen money and they do it like clockwork to every client and it's done twice every year. I've spoken to 3 different loan officers that all have been very honest and explained how dishonest the bank is and I wish I had spoken to them before getting the loan after it was recommended by the shady used car salesman. If you haven't used them yet I highly recommend running to a different bank. I can only attest to their car loans but if they are screwing everyone in that department I'm sure they screw all department customers equally.... read more

I would have rated them a 3 or 4 before they decide to cancel the credit on my credit card! I have had this card for about 4 years and NEVER missed a payment. During COVID I was fortunate to still have my job and was struggling only a little and decided to defer my student loan payment so I could afford to keep up with medical bills and get more groceries and supplies to cut trips to store to keep sick family members safe. WELL, UCCU decided that my credit score dropped too low and they withdrew any remaining credit on my card with the balance still due of course. I was very upset and it has been a few months. I withheld my anger and did not review them yet of course still making all of my payments with NO negative history. Customer Service's response was that I should apply for more credit! Do they think we are stupid?? The reason they canceled my credit card was because my score dipped when they "happened " to check it. The next bit of advice from customer service was that they could not help me just get my card restored due to a temporary dip in my score but that they would have to "pull" my credit (which would ding my score even more) and only if I applied for new credit. the letter I received as " if you feel this decision needs further consideration due to circumstances we are not aware of....." What a load of bull crap! as you can see from the aforementioned experience with customer service, their decision was final. Sorry for the rant, but I feel the details are relevant and the moral of the story is NO matter how timely you are with your payments or if you have never missed a payment and even if you have been a loya, responsible customer ..... Utah Community Credit Union is not very customer friendly. They can think outside of the box. I went in to get a advance off of my HELOC and asked for checks that I could write out to my contractor. The teller said NOPE we dont give checks on the Heloc. I said how am I supposed to use it, she said the loan manager has to write the checks and no one is here so you will have to come back later. I said can you just transfer the funds into my checking account attached to the loan, then I can write a check out of there. She said I can do that I guess. Really shouldn't she have known that. Then I asked her for six blank checks to use for my contractors and she said I will give you only three. But if you want to pay me $2.00 more I can give you six. REALLY thank you for being so so helpful.... not to bright! Next time I had an issue with them auto drafting my mortgage payment twice they couldn't just put the money back into my account. I had to send all sorts of paperwork and wait 10 days for them to mail me a check. read more

I tried to get them reconsider since my credit report is now 100 points higher (after just 4 months) and nobody in the loan department will call me back. Done with these bozos. New member via puchasing a RV. Called because they sent information to my home address and not the mailing address. Asked if they were going to send a coupon book and was told yes. It is June and payment is due soon. Called again and was told that the box for a coupon book was not checked! I then asked how were they going to notify me if they did not send me a bill. They said they will send me a late notice. Wait, what? I pay my bills on time and reasked this question several times and was told that it is my responsibilty to contact them. Like I am doing now? Requested to speak to a supervisior who gave me the same song and dance. I restated what she said so I can write a complaint letter. She then said "no, I did not understand!" She stated they a statement would be mailed before the payment due date. Why didn't you no say that in the beginning! I told her to listen to my whole conversation since it was being recorded. I've been banking with UCCU for almost 10 years, and just last week I decided to completely cancel my account with them permanently. My first bad experience with them was when I has signed up for overdraft protection. I was 18 at the time and very naive about spending habits and constantly checking my transactions. I finally look at my amount one day, and it said that I was -300 dollars in the hole. I immediately called and the woman very rudely informed me that she couldn't do a thing about the overdraft fees and it was my fault for not checking first. Ummm thats what I thought the overdraft protection was for?! Freaking deny my card if I dont have the funds instead of allowing it to run into overdraft. I was furious. Next mishap happened when I had gone to Arizona for a month. I had about 300 dollars left on my CC that I hadn't paid off yet, but I was making small payments. I go to use my card and its denying everywhere I try. Knowing 100% I had funds, I contacted UCCU and the most rude woman I've ever talked to informed me that they had frozen my debit card until I made a payment on my CC. Can they do that?! Well they did. I paid off the credit card in full that day and completely closed that account. Then the last straw. I have had to get FOUR new debit cards within the last year because of fraudulent activity. Four. I dont know if they just dont care about protecting our funds, but it got ridiculous. And they inform you AFTER the fact as well, so the charges have already gone through. I went in, got all my money, and when asked why I was closing my account I told them their service is horrible and I dont feel safe having my money with them. All I got in response was "Ok." We took out a car loan with UCCU and I called them to make a payment in December to pay the final amount off. I told the lady on the phone we wanted to pay the remaining balance and she said that it was taken care of and we paid off our car loan. 2 months later we got a notice saying our credit score had dropped over a hundred points for a late payment. We looked and went online and she had only charged a typical monthly payment. We didn't receive any mailed notice, no email, no text, or phone call notifying us we were late on payments from UCCU. We only found out when our credit score got dinged. Honestly the most unprofessional, uncaring, and dishonest baking institution out there. They had all our contact info on file and didn't even try to contact us to tell us we had an outstanding payment that was their fault because they didn't do what they said they did. read more

Incompetent and Poor Customer Service. We established a car loan with UCCU and requested (at the time of the loan) that payments be automatically deducted from our checking account. Subsequently, we received a notice of late payment - so we called UCCU and they informed us they would fix the issue. About a month later, we received another late notice. We called again and were reassured that the bank was aware of the issue and was in process of completing our request. The following month, UCCU turned us in to the credit bureaus - stating we were in default on our loan. We called again and UCCU acknowledge their fault and agreed to send a request to the bureaus to remove the delinquent status of the loan. UCCU ultimately submitted the request and 2 of the 3 bureaus appropriately updated our credit. We recently decided to refinance our home (through another bank). At the request of our mortgage officer, we reached out to UCCU to obtain a letter confirming the date they submitted the request to the bureaus as well as few additional details. We've contacted Todd Kilmer and Chris ? (manager) multiple times to obtain the letter, but they have both been unresponsive and unhelpful. Beyond frustrated that we have spent so much time on this simple request. read more

Great bank, but my main issue is that they charge their members a 10% fee when counting coins if the amount is over $200. I frequently bring in coins and it is a hassle to have to count all of the coins myself before I bring them in to make sure I don't have over $200. Then I have to divide my coins into different bags (less than $200) and take multiple trips over multiple days just to deposit the money. I understand charging people who are not members of the bank, but charging your own members seems a little cheap... read more

They will acknowledge charge to your account before a deposit to your account in order to charge you an overdraft fee. For example, if you have a pending transaction for July 5th, and you also deposit a check on July 4th, the funds for that check will be available in the morning on July 5th but minus an overdraft fee for the transaction that came out on July 5th. They will also charge you multiple overdraft fees in a single day! Banks are required to have their customers opt-in for ovderaft fees and I never did, but was billed a plethora of fees regardless. They are ok for general banking however if you lose a spouse it's very difficult to completely remove them from the account. When it came time to order new checks I added my new spouses name to be printed however the teller hit re-order instead of "new" order so they came with my 1st wife's name. They admitted fault & re-ordered correctly (I hope) but when asked to rush them I was informed it would cost extra, even though I wasted 2 weeks already from UCCU's mistake. I don't know of any business that would not put a rush on an order that they messed up? How does my current wife write checks with my first wife's name on the check? I would give less than one star if I could. Someone got ahold of my debit card number and made fraudulent purchases with it. There are several ways this could have happened with today's technology. The anguish came because I couldn't gain access to my account during the week the fraudulent purchases were made, funny that. I got one representative who asked me the usual security questions but then said she wanted to find out more about and because she couldn't find out more about me she would not let me have access to my account. When I finally got access, several attempts with representatives later, I found the fraudulent transactions. I disputed these transactions, including one that had me making a purchase at a 7/11 in Pennsylvania, a state that I have never visited. Two specific transactions were purchases from the same business (Warren Lotas LLC) totaling 370.00. A very dodgy business that seems to deal in sports clothing. I threatened them with a lawsuit and they returned the money. I would caution all to stay away from this business. After researching, UCCU determined that "no error occurred" and they removed their provisional reimbursement for the money. Which was fine since the dodgy business gave me back the money. However, if I had not threatened the dodgy business, I would have been responsible for the payments of those two expensive purchases thanks to UCCU's crack team of researchers (sarcasm intended). I will be closing my account and returning to PayPal. read more

I just left UCCU in Saratoga Springs and I am so disappointed. I tried to pay off both of my car loans and they refused to take my money. They refused payment from the card I have been using for the last 18 months to make my payments. I'm not sure if I just got the wrong teller or what bit I have never had a bank refuse to take money or payoff a loan before. Worst customer service. If you suspect fraud like how I got an email notifying me of someone trying to login to my account that wasn't me. You can't call and do anything if it's outside business hours. You have to wait until they open to report it. In the meantime you can't get access to freeze your account or stop your cards so your money can be stolen just because you have to wait for them to open. Not to mention they cancel cards without telling you they are cancelled or why. They also tell you your card is activated but when you go to use your new card it doesn't work so you have to go back to the bank and tell them to actually activate it this time. Archaic in Technology and Philosophy I don't trust UCCU with my information or money. Their website and app are behind the times by a decade. There is no way to pay them with a card from another institution (I would never let UCCU hold my money). I got dinged a $25 charge because of this. My paycheck came in at the end of the week and I stood in line at their branch to pay my bill. I stood there for 45 minutes on a Saturday. Finally I decided to just try my luck with their crappy app. Bad decision. You literally cannot make a payment via their app or website unless you go through a 3-5 day process. In 2018 for a financial institution you still have to do this!! I can pay for a hamburger online with a debit card with no problem, but can't make a loan payment to UCCU with a normal debit card. So I go in to dispute the late charge as it was the first one I've ever gotten with them and am told that I have to get a pencil and paper and fill out a request for some committee to review to get that fee removed. Every other institution simply says "You get two of these per year, I'll take care of it.". Not UCCU. It has to go before a committee to discuss that $25. It was deemed by this committee that because my issue wasn't a "Processing Error" that my $25 fee stands. First, sad that "Processing Errors" happen frequently enough that it's on their weird forms and is a valid issue that a committee needs to review. Second, if it WAS a processing error, A COMMITTEE WOULD HAVE TO REVIEW IT!! Customer service can't just remove it, they hold your money until the committee can review it. Really weird, especially for a banking institution! We have car loans with UCCU and literally that is the only reason I go there. Our normal bank is America First and they seem normal about normal issues that arise. I know people that bank at different Credit Union and no one has to go through these weird things. I have 5 little kids who are looking forward to Christmas and this absurd late fee would be a present or two for them, but the committee deemed my cause not worthy so they need the money. Great service and rates. Hit or miss on customer service but overall pleased with the CU

I used to really like them. Then they went through all kinds of technical "updates". Because of these they have screwed up my auto pay for my car multiple times to the point I have to babysit it to make sure the payment is made each month. What's the point of auto-pay at that point? No notifications, the payments just stop. Then they charge me for not paying. I was also charged a fee (twice I might add, within a matter of two weeks) for canceling my insurance or not having sufficient insurance (the definition is vague). What I am assuming caused that charge to trigger was a change I made. I added car insurance to what I had had for years (and they had approved) and actually had two types of insurance for that month (because I forgot to cancel the additional coverage for another two months). So I was not only sufficiently covered, but OVER covered. Yet I was charged for having too much coverage? Honestly UCCU? I don't know what happened over the last three years or so, but they have spiraled downhill on their customer service. I would highly recommend going elsewhere. Their low rates are tempting, but it's not worth the hassle. read more

Dealt with UCCU 3 different times: In 2015 - Wife worked on car loan with them. Got an ok rate, they set up on the loan, the guy was real good to work with. In 2016 - I was looking at a car and called UCCU. The guy was real nice again. I told him my credit was really low in the low 500's. He said to try anyway, so we did. He ran the credit report, he sent it to the underwriters, however it was denied. In 2017 - at the beginning of the year, I did a bankruptcy and finally things were on an upward track. Later, an unforeseen thing with the car (oh joy). Wife called UCCU - they guy from before was no longer there, so we worked with another person. They ran her credit and accepted her income documents from her own business as a health professional. The credit score came back 740 and UCCU sent us an email saying the loan was "approved" (their words). But the next day, they changed their tune and said that they couldn't verify her income from her own business. She sent them bank statements, copies of customer checks paying her, copies of credit card transactions of customers paying her through the Visa/Mastercard/creditcard system. They said the amount of money was good, but that they couldn't "verify" the income. But if she had a 1099 for 2017, they could use that. She said the accountant won't be doing 1099's until January 2018 as we're still in 2017. Then UCCU said they could add my income to the loan and verify that (I'm a W2 employee). She told them that my credit was low and I had a bankruptcy earlier this year, but they said that they would "use the better of the two credit scores" (their words again). So I sent my info and I called them and gave them my ok for it and they reiterated that they would use the better of the two credit scores. So they run my credit score...higher than before at 581, but still lousy, which was expected. They said they'd run things and get it processed. Another day - then their story changes again. Then they said that since my credit was bad, they couldn't approve the loan. What about the story of using the better of two credit scores? They wouldn't answer that. So then the loan person says that they could go forward if the debt/income ratio was lower, so we look at cars that were smaller and lower cost and talk to them again. Then their story changes again. Then they said that it's due to the bankruptcy for me. Well we knew all that even before they did a hard-credit-check on me. They knew that before they suggested going to spend time and effort to look at lower cost cars. They just gave us the runaround and now there's hard-credit-checks on me for no reason at all. They change their story often. They communicate one goal we're working for, then the goal that they set, they move the goalposts. read more

I've been trying to set up an account with UCCU for a month now and it's been my worst online experience thus far. After a month of emails, phone calls, and going to their website I finally was able to get access to my account. I then went to Mint to get my budgeting organized and Mint said my password for UCCU was incorrect. I went back to UCCU and couldn't get to my account because my password was indeed wrong. I went to their "forgot my password" link and all it did was take me back to the login page.
